I joined this site to learn more about cities and travel but was bullied by other users, some American but mostly British. I responded to the bullying by telling them to grow up and after they continued I complained to the site admins. I log on to see if they responded to my complaints only to found out I had been banned! What for defending myself against bullies? It was THEIR fault but I the 'victim' gets banned? I have been on thousands of websites since the boom of the internet way back in the 90s and been on some great forum sites others really bad. I have never visited a forum site in my life anywhere near as bad as city data. Also most of the information on the main city data site is very inaccurate and out of date especially in relation to religion and crime rates. My job requires me to work with statistics and it is all incorrect on that site. If you want a fun site where you don't deal with horrible people and the admins on the site, the people you are supposed to go to for help are actually causing the problem then stay far way from the S**t hole of a site that is city data. I hope that whole company falls to the f'n ground!

They banned me innumerable times for posting warnings about interacting with certain people, visiting certain places, rules and regulations, and such. And I get the following message;

You have been banned for the following reason;

Trolling.

Date the ban will be lifted; Never.

Here is what I think they are really saying;

Violation of, and disrespect towards, the Juche Philosophy, showing disrespect to our leaders Kim Il-Sung, Kim Jong-Il, and Kim Jong-Un, and violating the laws of our country (North Korea).

Complete time waster. You will not find any useful information. The site has been overrun by realtors, racist Trump trolls, and bitter angry rural people who love to trash cities.

Forget about having a productive conversation, virtually every thread gets taken over by some troll (either Russian or bitter social reject) The trolls seem to make every topic about how horrible Obama, Hillary, or minorities are, even if the topic is non political Very toxic environment

You can get advice on where to move but if you go into the general forums, be ready for overt racism, being judged for not having a million dollars in your 401k by age 25 or having someone ridicule everything you do. If you post about the best way to wash a cotton blanket, you can bet someone will reply "why do you use cotton? I only use wool. Getting cotton is ridiculous" I'm not even kidding.
The racism is insane but if you call them a racist, you'll probably get banned or be called a liberal (a curse word there) and then get a long explanation by white people about how racism isn't real. I'm a white male moderate but the nazi atmosphere of some people paint me as a commie. It's so black and white to the Trumpers. The intelligent people can't even have a discussion because it's like Trump good liberal bad. My dog is a better conversationalist.
I forgot the best. Anytime you ask for advice on a work or personal or housing matter, the majority of answers will be along the lines of you don't like it? Move. If your husband snores, divorce. Your coworker wears too much perfume? Brush up your resume and get a new job. Etc.
There are some nice people but the aggressive ones really make it difficult to form a true online forum. The specialized general forums like economics and genealogy and automotive tend to stay on point and give helpful information.
I think they ban a lot of people because I don't see people around and notice they've been kicked out. I don't know how they decide because a lot of people were always helpful.

Apparently, not racist remarks. Discussing racism gets you banned off the site. This piece of $#*!. Mensaguy. More like Ima$#*!, threatened ONLY me in that fashion. He doesn't do it to anyone else.

Probably is a moron who thinks "bro" is black, white, or "Visigothic," as though they aren't white, slang. Instead of Latin--and I don't mean traitors--slang as it is XD

I'm on the Left and I made that clear on the C-D forum. However, I said nothing inflammatory or abusive to anybody. I did nothing one could construe as trolling. However, one of the mods called me a troll and banned me for life. No warning. No explanation. No second chance. Now, I read City-Data threads on numerous subjects for months before I joined. They DO have lots of interesting information about places all over the world.

My advice: Read, but don't join. If you join and one of their neurotic mods doesn't like one of your posts, she can ban you on the spot. After you are banned, you can no longer even READ information on City-Data. All that comes up is the "You're Banned" message. DON'T JOIN THE FORUMS, they are FULL of trolls. The mods are trolls too.

I'm a left leaning centrist and I would get modded for comments that flagged comments by conservatives if not the alt-right that are not anywhere near as bad as others by conservative posters or alt-right posters. These posts would not get flagged whether deleted or mod edited by when it comes to "name calling/personal attacks." The forum often will delete posts voting "copywrite infringement" yet will not inform posters why posts or entire threads were removed.

As a liberal posting reporting a claim, you have to hope you get the right mod to review it. Ibginnie or Casey are clearly not fair. The moderators are across the political spectrum (even if most are conservative or alt-right leaning) BUT inconsistent in what flagged posts are modded if not deleted. This website sucks and has become a cesspool of conservatives, hardcore libertarians, alt-right and pro-Trump posters with strawman arguments that complain or personal attack when moderates and liberals come back with facts and realities. I would suggest avoiding the forum if you aren't like minded.

Yes I have been suspended several times but I see a lot of right leaning posters who should be with me but aren't.

... especially those that don't march in lockstep to Liberals ideas. I find the moderators are quick to let posters derail any topic that pin Liberals in a corner and exposes non-rational responses. In particular, any reasonable talk about illegal immigration (just contrary to a Liberal viewpoint) will almost assuredly result in a ban. It could be a good site if an open dialogue was allowed. But they're not interested in a civil conversation and pretty much encourage any $#*!fest that supports Liberal viewpoints. If you do get banned, simply use another IP address and you'll be fine. But honestly, why waste the time. They don't encourage honest, open conversation so you would be better off finding another forum.

I think there are probably about two dozen people actually ON this site, but each has about 2 dozen screen names and will pretend to be others just to add firepower to their wackadoodle opinions. Everyone will admit they are a baby boomer who hates anyone who is not a baby boomer pretty readily. If you ask a question in your geographic location forum, one of the 2 dozen people who post on this site will "thread stalk" you if you post anywhere else in a different forum and refer to your unrelated question to try and draw some conclusion about who you are and your general life problems. And don't even read the Relationships section unless you want your blood pressure to rise with all the complete nonsense spouted about women.

The threads usually start out okay, but by page two, there is baiting, blaming and thread hijacking. CD posters demand more information, and if you demur for the sake of privacy, expect some name calling or accusations that you are 'making things up'. Expect to hear lots of hate for education, liberals, anyone who gets pregnant after 35, anyone who lives in a city and shares a wall with a neighbor, anyone who has an HOA, anyone who believes in gun control, people who think purebred dog breeding is kinda strange and pointless, people who would dare limit the number of dogs who can live in a small space, people who have good relationships but one specific item they want advice on (the advice is always "YOU NEED TO LEAVE THAT LOSER!" or "This is totally your fault. You are so controlling. Just be grateful that you have a relationship") people who don't like granite counters, people who buy a new car, people who pay attention to their grooming, people who have trouble with their parents, people who DON'T have trouble with their parents, people who are in management positions, people who don't quit their jobs and people who want to live somewhere vaguely popular and nice. This is, in short, the largest collection of disenfranchised trolls ever to grace an internet forum.

But its a little troll fiefdom for those 24 people and each of their 2 dozen screen personalities and names. Enter at your own risk.

Are there any more poorly-educated, ill-informed, biased and ignorant moderators on the web? Answer me, as viewing the internet for over 20 years, I have yet to see such a level of total incompetence. So please answer the question. Banning people based on IP address is SO old-school, as routers, etc, you little children, can mask literal millions of users. I think a wake-up call of a DNS would awaken those that arbitrate at whim. Answer the question posted.

I have read some views down below. They can trace http address so when you get banned and make up a new user just use a different internet browser it took a day or 2 to find my http addy.

I posted a thread with facts and then all of s sudden they banned me for trolling. I only had 1 post and responded to other people's threads. Ih and i was attacked for grammar.

All i did was post a thread where they have Muslim training camps in America. Plenty of evidence on google and YouTube and i was banned.
