The site appears to be owned by a company/person with strong right wing political positions. Does it hire people to join as anonymous members to continually post far right wing messages day after day? In reading the posts, it becomes apparent that specific anonymous members are definitely posting the party line, even repeating the same words over and over. Many people who contradict the certain specific members are penalized and/Or banned from the site. Please remember, even if you only read there, you are putting money intO the pockets of the owner when you scroll past the many advertisements. Highly censored site.

This website is alt-right friendly, so beware. Liberals are outnumbered, unwanted and often have posts deleted. You will read racist, sexist, insulting comments and stupid generalizations that are allowed (if they are about liberals).

You may not criticize the alt-right or the current admin too harshly or your post will be deleted. You will read misspelled comments that are beyond ignorant. It has become much worse since the election, as difficult as this is to believe.

I wrote a derogatory post regarding Trump in reply to someone's lunatic post. Two seconds after I wrote it, it was deleted by the mod for being 'off topic' yet I made reference to something in the lunatic's post. It was like being under surveillance.

You are not allowed to make a derogatory comment about Trump if they can help it. Either they are afraid of being sued by the Litigator in Chief, or they are owned by him.

Honestly, it feels like North Korea over there. The ignorant illogical uneducated and unbalanced users are given free reign, and they come up with some bizarre conspiracy stuff. Intelligent logical people are basically leaving as it is simply too ridiculous to read some of the comments.

If you are looking for a site that had inaccurate information about city and a forum site full of bigots and racists that is moderated by people who are White Nationalists, then look no further than City-Data. Though if you are one who isn't a racist or a bigot or a member of any white supremacist groups, then you will probably be banned the moment you try to correct anyone on their wrong and racist views. Yac, who is one of the senior moderators, has openly said he supports letting racists speak their mind on their site, and anyone trying to correct them will be banned. This site should be tucked away to the darkest corner of the Internet, and no sane person should use it or rely on any of its information.

I used to post questions and rants here, now my last post about a strange relationship issue was deleted for being "a troll post" with no notification or explanation, so I reword it since I thought I offended the moderator, and he deletes it again but this time with an infraction for "posting in the wrong category again" when I was not told that's why the first one was removed.

I DM'd the moderator but received no reply, could find nowhere to report a moderator, so I DM'd his "friend" but received no reply, and now I can't make new posts without a "moderator review" first.

This is nonsensical and I'm not sure I'll be back.

I, like so many others, had a really awful experience with this site. I really don't understand why it dominates so many internet search engine results. That's how I got sucked into it, and apparently that's how most people get sucked into it. Once you're registered, you're stuck there. Unless of course you get permanently banned from the site, as I thankfully was. There is no self-cancellation option.

The forums are dominated by biased, censor-happy moderators and a handful of obnoxious, (seemingly) mentally ill users who seem to have no actual life outside of the forums and their relentless and constant posting of nonsensical, amateurish, misinformative, "my city/state/opinion is better than yours" tripe... day after day. Sometimes even hour after hour. Many of them are intolerant and can be downright nasty, though typically juvenile and (in my experience at least) ineffectual in their attempts to insult and belittle other users. It is often reminiscent of the comments section under youtube clips, only it's typically the same 10-15 usual suspects. Many of these "usual suspects" seem to pull favor with the mods, and regularly get away with personal attacks, racist-sexist-nationalist-homophobic rhetoric, and blatant trolling. Meanwhile, other, much more innocuous users providing legitimate information or seeking meaningful, civil discussion are reprimanded in the form of "infractions", and (if they're lucky enough) banned from posting.

The forums are like an alternate reality where logic and actual facts are tossed aside, and replaced with opinions that border on fantasy, and are presented as "fact". Stereotypes are thrown around abundantly, and users are constantly trying to one-up each other. There is a real "group-think" herd mentality that exists among long-time users and the mods who enable them, and it's a code of behavior that one dares not question if one is a new user. I was often scolded for bringing actual facts to the table.

It is a truly bizarre site (the forums part of it) that seems to serve no real purpose, other than to allow ill-tempered, mentally unstable, delusional creeps a platform to spew vitriol, snark, and wild, outlandish misinformation in order to compensate for their personal insecurities and lack of being in touch with reality. And as others have pointed out, there seems to be an underlying extreme-right wing tone in most (but not all) of the forums. It should be known, and I can't stress this enough, that if you're seeking actual information about a place, be it a city, state, or region... that this is quite possibly the WORST site to look for it. All you're going to find is a lot of wildly varying opinions, many of which have no basis in reality and are mainly a lot of boostering, which often devolves into bickering and heated pissing matches that often veer WAY off topic. Avoid at all costs. I have even since blocked C-D from my search engine results

I called out a couple of people who were being insulting and nasty to others. I wasn't insulting or rude in return and I am the one who gets banned. They have a right wing agenda and if you don't the will look to censor you. It's ok to call other people names, be insulting, post racist, misogynist posts but you can't stick up for those people. Marka is a HORRIBLE human being who really needs to be investigated which I have started the process of doing.

I was on the site for a few months and noticed certain members (politics forum) were constantly trolling, insulting, name calling, etc. According to the rules, I reported these posts. Yesterday, I received an infraction from ibginnie for trolling and hate speech (with no posts linked to tell me which ones qualified for that infraction). Today, there was a pop-up when I went to the site from Yak (?) saying I was permanently banned with no reason given. I cleared my cookies from that site and see they removed dozens of my posts. My username was RobtHansen.

Truly a bizarre site. Lesson learned - avoid citydata.

BTW, I read reviews here saying what a rightwing site it is. Well, I was a known conservative there and got banned so there's something else going on with the mods and whoever the hell yak is.

I received an infraction for saying restaurants in Carrollton, TX still have smoking and non smoking sections. I was attacked for making up lies. Um, ok. I only lived there and was just in a restaurant where the server asked which section I wanted to be seated in. SMH

Next, I was banned for "trolling" on City-Data because I shared my personal experiences living in Denver, Colorado. I said my car was totaled from hail damage, the weather is extreme, the people unfriendly and poor job prospects. I think the site is run by Denver realtors who forbid any negative statements concerning that over priced hell hole.

Ridiculous website where everyone turns every statement into a butthurt argument. You can post, "the sky is blue" and get banned.

The moderator on the NM and Santa Fe forums has little tolerance for posts that bash the city or anything about it. You can get in trouble for warning people about crime, depressed wages, the local hospital, anything. That's true on quite a few of the city and state forums, actually. Real estate agents who are long-term members have a lot of influence, so many of the city/state sub-forums are set up to boost the region, to support the RE industry. The moderators back that up.
