Extremely frustrated with Catawiki's submission process. I have tried to list great Pokémon items multiple times, only for them to be repeatedly rejected. Initially, the experts claimed my items did not meet their €50 minimum value threshold. To fix this, I grouped more items together to easily clear that threshold, but they still rejected the lot anyway. Their valuation is completely inaccurate based on current market prices. It feels like the experts are highly biased, they accept identical objects from other sellers while constantly rejecting my lots. They make it incredibly difficult for genuine sellers to get approved. Catawiki's expert system needs a major upgrade and a serious review for consistency and fairness.

I purchased a Capocine bag (Order #*******) through Catawiki. The item arrived in an unusable condition – it smells strongly of damp and moths, clearly from poor storage over many years. It is impossible to use and completely misrepresented. I contacted both the seller and Catawiki immediately to request a refund. To date, I have had no proper response from either. The seller has ignored messages, and Catawiki has failed to step in or provide any resolution. This experience has shown me that Catawiki does not protect buyers. Once they have your money, their "support" is non-existent, even when goods are clearly unfit for purpose and not as described. Warning to others: Do not trust this seller or Catawiki. If something goes wrong, you will be left fighting for your money back with no help. I will be pursuing this further through my payment provider and consumer protection authorities, but I want to warn others: avoid Catawiki and avoid this seller – they do not stand behind what they sell.

Catawiki is a platform that facilitates and protects consumer fraud. I purchased what was explicitly advertised in a dedicated "Fur Auction" as a "Fur Coat" (Lot *******). Upon receipt, the garment was a cheap Alpaca/Wool textile blend. Marketing a textile as "Fur" is a "Bait and Switch" and a violation of EU Directive 2005/29/EC and the Italian Consumer Code (Art. 21). When I alerted Catawiki to this factual, material misrepresentation, their "Experts"—who are supposed to verify these listings—refused to honor their "Buyer Protection." They ignored the physical garment labels that proved the item was wool, and they ignored the fact that the coat was a German Size 46 (3XL) despite being listed as a "Medium." Furthermore, the listing used deceptive photography; the coat appeared floor-length on a misleadingly small model, but barely reaches the knees in reality. Catawiki does not protect buyers; they protect dishonest sellers to secure their commissions. I have had to escalate this to a bank chargeback/stop payment and am out an additional €73 in return freight because the seller and platform refused to acknowledge basic European consumer law. Advice to others: Do not trust their "Expert" labels. They are a facade for unverified, misrepresented listings. If you are scammed, bypass their customer service immediately and go straight to your bank. Date of experience: February 2026 Legal Fact for the Reddit person (Re: Age of the coat) If the Reddit commenter is questioning the age/ISO standards, here is the legal response regarding why the seller's description is a violation regardless of the coat's age: English: "The age of the coat is a distraction from the legal breach. Under the Italian Civil Code (Art. 1497), a seller must guarantee the 'essential qualities' of the product. Whether it's 1970s or 1990s, 'Wool' is not 'Fur.' Furthermore, using a 1990s label to claim a 'Medium' size for a German 46 is a failure of conformity. Sizing standards (ISO 3635) have never classified a 108cm chest (Size 46) as a Medium. The seller intentionally misclassified the size and material to inflate the value."

Had a carpet worth 1500 euros for sale on here and the guy who bought it complained it had faults and they weren't visible on the pictures. The faults weren't there before I sent them and everything was visible. Catawiki told me they accepted his complaint and he would send my item back. It was obvious he had a personal relationship with experts or peoole working there. The guy then complained that he needs to pay 100 euros to send it back and Catawiki then told me to give him another 100 euro to send my item back. He never sent my item back and Catawiki gave him his money. Mails with them are ignored or answered in snarky ways and on the telephone they just laugh at you because they know you can't file an overseas complaint or get an international lawyer. These people are thieves and crooks.

Good quality of items and super customer service
December 21, 2021

I have won 6 art items and all were as described. Exactly. I love them all. Two of them were slow in coming to US from Europe. This was certainly not the seller's fault and when I notified Catawiki that they hadn't arrived when expected, for the first one they followed up with the seller who was able to get it out of customs. For the other one they investigated and found it had been handed over to USPS. They gave me the tracking number and I filed a request on the USPS website and the post office found it and delivered it a few days later. I was so pleased with the quick and personal responses that I commented to them that I was impressed with their customer service.

On the other hand I have seen some jewelry and loose gemstones on Catawiki that were clearly of poor quality and I'm sure that a less educated eye might have thought they had bid on something of better quality. So it's worth reading the description closely because the sellers are encouraged to point out every chip or sign of age or damage. Also there are many closeup pictures of items. One should look at them and also consider the size as listed.

They refuse to pay me back 461€ though I sent back the item!
November 24, 2021

They told me to wait for experts to decide who will pay for the return shipment, told me the result after 14 days, I send it back and pay for it, then they say they won't give me back the 461€ because the 14 days were over. Now I neither have the product nor the money. Will go to court!

Pure Fraude
October 25, 2021

Bought a perpetual rolex discribed as 'perfect working condition'. When it arrived it seemed to be working, but the perpetual mechanism is broken so it stops after unwinding. Rolex charges almost 3K for this repair. Tried to negotiate to return the item and the seller would agree, but Catawiki is unwilling to reimburse the taxes paid by the seller and he does not want to return without getting this reimbursed.
No willingness to cooperate from Catawiki what so ever. Zero protection and zero assistance to find a proper solution. If you find an object you like, it's safer to buy it through the reseller personally than buying from Catawiki. They are basically adding more risk and ripping off customers rather than protecting them.

Here are the unique objects that many unsuspecting unconscious are happy to experience a moment of glory. Experts who have learned to find business and close the market to others in short, a platform not open to everyone or at least so they say but when you propose similar objects then the guidelines and the expert's judgment change the reason and in the photo this is just a taste where find special items.

Received an incomplete lot and thus wrote a negative review about the seller. Then Catawiki changed my review to neutral with positive text.

Nothing but scam
March 11, 2021

Although I buy many bottles of whiskey all over the world this company was really poor in their behavior. I bought three bottles from a French seller that didn't have very good rating from other buyers just because they said that my money would be safe with them until my delivery. So I paid and after 2 months that I hadn't received anything and the seller didn't replied to my emails I turn to them asking for a full refund as the say in their company rules... They avoid answering to my constant emails and they only told me that they were looking about what happened with a standard automatic email... I mean sure that I lost my money for good but they lost as well because not only I won't buy from them anymore but because from now on to all my friends in the whisky associations that I am a member I will say to keep away from them...

Catawiki is a scam.
March 8, 2021

Catawiki is a total scam. I made an order December 18th. I waited 30 days, no item no refund. I tried to open a dispute. They answered please wait because of COVID delays. Finally January 29th I was allowed to enter a dispute. They at first swore they were on it. Then I just stopped hearing from them accept for computer responses saying they would be in touch in two days. Never happened once. I have made orders from Europe in February that have arrived so Catawiki COVID excuse is bull$#*!. Now I look at customer support and the whole case has been removed. Like they settled it but forgot to tell me. Don't even bother. Go directly to your credit card or PayPal account and put them on it. Avoid Catawiki at all costs!

Scamville

I am doubtful about the site's experts. Descriptions of lots are sometimes inaccurate and impossible to correct. Customer service is not helpful. Shipping costs outrageous. Unsold lots reappear ad nauseum, yet misleading untruthful descriptions are not corrected despite repeated requests by this buyer to do so. Avoid this site like the plague. There must be a better and more professional site somewhere out there!

NEVER BUY FROM THIS UNPROFESSIONAL SITE!
January 10, 2021

NEVER BUY FROM THIS UNPROFESSIONAL SITE!
They have no buyer protection!
I spend high amounts on the vintage watches for my business on this site. Most of the watches come in not working condition which is NEVER described in the listing! Sellers are not responsive as they don't get punished by Catawiki! Catawiki doesn't help at all!
Over $1000 watch lost, the seller is not responding but still selling on Catawiki. No even option to leave a negative feedback for the seller just a neutral! It's jock not a professional site!
You might get a good experience buying once from them but definitely don't use it for business!

Catawiki seller review is a scam
August 25, 2020

Catawiki clearly manipulates reviews and removes negative reviews. I had a case where i bought 2 lots from a seller and was charged twice the very expensive packaging. Afterwards that are the rules and that is not my discussion.

I kindly contact the seller and the seller agreed to reduce the price of shipment. The 2 lots also arrived in a single tube the the shipment was not compensated as the seller had promissed.

I kindly contact the seller to discuss this as he promissed me something different. I waited a few weeks for his answer. Which did not come

Today i got a message from catawik support (liam) that my negative comment (that seller did not react and honor his proimissed), was removed to neutral.

I explained to catawiki support, but they remained with their view. It clearly illustrates that reviews can not be taken seriously as support is beautifying the comments.
So before you buy on catawiki: 1° be sure to check for excessive support costs 2° don't count on reduced costs if outside your country 3° support will remove negative reviews upon seller request.

My conclusion is that seller review is a scam, as illustrated.

Feedback scam
August 3, 2020

Bought an item, 14 days passed before confirmation item was shipped, this is against Catawiki rules, so left negative feedback. By some magick, this feedback was quickly deleted on the(very big) seller's account(by Catawiki, I presume). The feedback is a scam, only showing the positive, because Catawiki gets money from the commission on sellers... it's all a trap for idiots wasting their money on the Catawiki website

Sellers beware. Catawiki is run by the auctioneers, some are good, others very poor & not fit to call themselves auctioneers. Disagree with their comment, you get banned and ALL OF YOUR MONEY HELD WITHOUT ANY RIGHT OF REPLY FOR AS LONG AS THEY SEE FIT.
After 5 years and tens of thousands of euros in fees I was banned for asking an auctioneer why he had denied my listing but allowed 4/5 others the same. I've attempted to file a complaint but there is no recourse for wronged sellers.
I am now going to seek legal action following my funds being held illegally for over 2 months.

You've been warned! Sell elsewhere.

Experts sell on Catawiki ( Mr. Carlos Renis)
April 15, 2020

Expert like Carlos Peña Renis in a jewelry department is a very bad name for Catawiki.
Very Racist, unprofessional and he will waste your time and then close your account because he also sells on Catawiki.
We have noted that few experts are selling on Catawiki themselves and will deliberately block other sellers who are selling the same items.
