Extremely frustrated with Catawiki's submission process. I have tried to list great Pokémon items multiple times, only for them to be repeatedly rejected.
Initially, the experts claimed my items did not meet their €50 minimum value threshold. To fix this, I grouped more items together to easily clear that threshold, but they still rejected the lot anyway. Their valuation is completely inaccurate based on current market prices. It feels like the experts are highly biased, they accept identical objects from other sellers while constantly rejecting my lots. They make it incredibly difficult for genuine sellers to get approved. Catawiki's expert system needs a major upgrade and a serious review for consistency and fairness.
I purchased a Capocine bag (Order #*******) through Catawiki. The item arrived in an unusable condition – it smells strongly of damp and moths, clearly from poor storage over many years. It is impossible to use and completely misrepresented. I contacted both the seller and Catawiki immediately to request a refund. To date, I have had no proper response from either. The seller has ignored messages, and Catawiki has failed to step in or provide any resolution. This experience has shown me that Catawiki does not protect buyers. Once they have your money, their "support" is non-existent, even when goods are clearly unfit for purpose and not as described. Warning to others: Do not trust this seller or Catawiki. If something goes wrong, you will be left fighting for your money back with no help. I will be pursuing this further through my payment provider and consumer protection authorities, but I want to warn others: avoid Catawiki and avoid this seller – they do not stand behind what they sell.
Catawiki is a platform that facilitates and protects consumer fraud. I purchased what was explicitly advertised in a dedicated "Fur Auction" as a "Fur Coat" (Lot *******). Upon receipt, the garment was a cheap Alpaca/Wool textile blend. Marketing a textile as "Fur" is a "Bait and Switch" and a violation of EU Directive 2005/29/EC and the Italian Consumer Code (Art. 21).
When I alerted Catawiki to this factual, material misrepresentation, their "Experts"—who are supposed to verify these listings—refused to honor their "Buyer Protection." They ignored the physical garment labels that proved the item was wool, and they ignored the fact that the coat was a German Size 46 (3XL) despite being listed as a "Medium."
Furthermore, the listing used deceptive photography; the coat appeared floor-length on a misleadingly small model, but barely reaches the knees in reality.
Catawiki does not protect buyers; they protect dishonest sellers to secure their commissions. I have had to escalate this to a bank chargeback/stop payment and am out an additional €73 in return freight because the seller and platform refused to acknowledge basic European consumer law.
Advice to others: Do not trust their "Expert" labels. They are a facade for unverified, misrepresented listings. If you are scammed, bypass their customer service immediately and go straight to your bank.
Date of experience: February 2026
Legal Fact for the Reddit person (Re: Age of the coat)
If the Reddit commenter is questioning the age/ISO standards, here is the legal response regarding why the seller's description is a violation regardless of the coat's age:
English: "The age of the coat is a distraction from the legal breach. Under the Italian Civil Code (Art. 1497), a seller must guarantee the 'essential qualities' of the product. Whether it's 1970s or 1990s, 'Wool' is not 'Fur.' Furthermore, using a 1990s label to claim a 'Medium' size for a German 46 is a failure of conformity. Sizing standards (ISO 3635) have never classified a 108cm chest (Size 46) as a Medium. The seller intentionally misclassified the size and material to inflate the value."
Buying a "unique" numbered edition of art can be Fraud because you are most likely to find the same piece of art a week later but in a new numbered series.
Complete scam. Complete scam. They send you broken items. You get a few hours to complain, then after over x amount of days you get a few hours to arrange return or they get to keep your money if you can't make 4 hours free of working hours to arrange the return of a worthless broken item that they charged a minimum of almost 200 euros payment and the keep unless you find packing material and a printer before the courier is knocking Great gamble on their part.
Longstanding client of Catawiki. Sellers have varying levels of dependability. To be expected.Catawiki consistently resolves issues that may arise very professionally.
They don't respect artists or their paintings, they want to sell for nothing or don't even allow auctions, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone involved in art, it's a joke.
When you buy something, they will make you pay - after the auction - ADDITIONAL 9% FEE (?!) The seller should cover the selling fees and not the buyer... Other thing which I was not ok with is that the final price is the second highest bid PLUS something... in my case it was plus 10 Euro... that means, if the second best bidder put for example 150 eur - then you are not paying 151 Euro but directly 160 Euro (?!)... After this increase they will charge you - as mentioned above - +9% fee for the protection (?) and additionally other 3 eur for the same thing (yes, again protection)... This is very strange business model, not recommended
Bestellnummer *******
Every seller is rated by a reviewscore. Say 90% is ok. Vip seller who have a bad reviews score are protected by Catawiki. They donnot show this rate anymore so people must look at alle the reviews. And they switch bad reviews into neutral review at these sellers. So when u look at negative review u will not find so many.
I guess Catawiki is trying to explore how to get into the business in the wrong way. Horrible customer support, incredible bad concept (awful experts estimations, high fees, letting people go by their own bid, instead of setting an initial starting price - even the action will end with now result since everyone's outbidding the seller's desired price). This site should just die, so others could actually learn how to do business and come with a better experience overall.
Dishonest sellers are allowed and tolerated on the site. Within 14 days, only twice did customer support respond with some automatic replies to my many complaints that the seller had taken huge advantage of postage (for two smaller lamps, he charged two postage fees without the possibility of combining = 78 euros. He sent the lamps unprotected in one package for GLS price = 22 euros. The seller was not responding. Everything takes so long with no answers from Catawiki, no one is really dealing with your complaint, some kind of attrition strategy. For the dissolution I hardly received a voucher from Catawiki that I have to redeem within a year on Catawiki platform. The dishonest and ignorant seller despite total 47 obvious negligence and scams (out of 304 "deals" in one year) continues to happily sell, posing a danger and inconvenience to future buyers. This is not safe. I also think that the seller somehow gives himself positive reviews - more than 80 reviews one after another from the same buyer. Texts are either OK or in many languages copied from previous buyers. I believe these reviews came after, to offset negative reviews, because he never sold anything to the same person so many times. Strange
Someone was bothered by my review because it was removed from Google. BR M
This is my first time To try catawiki. I try to bid and after sometime i recieve an email stating i had to pay for the bidding fee bcoz i diddnt get the item. In fact i was not aware and was notify i won the bid. And its ridiculous
About half the items on catawiki will never come to you. My current gripe is with a package which was "delivered" but only to my country, there is no address. The seller says they have no idea what happened...not sure if that's true but catawiki has done nothing to address it. They just sent me form emails for months and then said the seller is on holiday. BS, refund it. Horrible company that I will never be working with again. Very very dissappointed. Please do not do business with them, they don't even offer a phone number or chat line to speak with anyone- only email and they respond weeks later.
They invited me to become professional seller in Jan 2023 and promised me a seller fees of 6%. However without any notification (no email, no message), they increased my fees back to 12.5% plus VAT. I priced my item according to 6.5% so deducted 13.5% (plus tax) away from my final sale I'm actually losing money, I almost shipped the item without noticing. I can believe such a big company they SCAM sellers like that! I won't ship my item until they change my rate back. I'm done with Catawiki
Parcel did not come because seller set incorrect phone number. Parcel go back to seller and no refund was provided. -395 euro. I opened claim with bank and open police claim for scamming... will wait for them to punish
BTW - my reviews on their website they delete. All other review websites - only negative reviews.
On trustpilot they post fakes positive reviews - you can see by history when they start to... very nice company :)
They will steal from you in every single way possible. Even if you buy something and is not as described or broken or even fake they will still take your money and give it to the seller. If you are a seller they will force you and handling over goods before you get the money and if the buyer make a claim you can lose all your moneys. A misery of a platform. Stay away.
The so called experts are not checking the items personally, they just look at the pictures given by the seller, I bought an artwork "STREET DIAMOND" (AIIROH) from "mind the label gap" which doesn't give a phone number, adress or email, you can't contact the seller after purchase, I checked the shipping order, the address given shows me a run down place somewhere in France if you look at Google Street view, I searched for anything related to "mind the label gap" but there is no such gallery company what ever in this place. You can't find anything about them on internet absolutely nothing, except this fake page that seems to work as a cover up for this Fraud. The so called expert estimate was between 9'000 - 10'000 Dollars but my winning bid was 400 dollars +200 dollars shipping costs and buyers fee, import tax not included, how is this even possible, but what blow my mind Today, was when I saw a similar artwork " STREET DIAMOND" from Aiiroh, do you know what the winning bid was? 29 Dollars! The price estimate given by the pseudo expert was 3'000 to 4'000 dollars, how can they give away something valued a couple of grants for just 29 bucks? The Netherlands seems to be a lucrative place for scammers and the Dutch government does absolutely nothing to stop them. Who ever reads this, please don't make the same mistakes I did, catawiki is the worst auction platform ever, they just want your money you don't get what you are paying for.
I bought about five times something at Catawiki and three times it was scam. And Catawiki does NOTHING! Avoid this pool of scam! Last time a watch of which the seller deliberately lied about the item (seller Aframes has admitted this). Catawiki does nothing. Be warned about scams and scammers at Catawiki. No chance Catawiki will solve this problem. No more Catawiki. Don't say you did not know from now.
DO NOT USE THEM TO SELL! Catawiki was recommended by Sotheby's International Auction House. I therefore assumed they were a reputable organization. I posted a 2.25 carat sapphire ring for sale. An individual in Germany purchased the ring through auction and paid Catawiki. I shipped the ring (from the US) which was delivered timely. The buyer has not disputed the purchase. I was supposed to be paid within a week of delivery by Catawiki. It has now been 30 days since delivery and I have not yet been paid. I have emailed them multiple times and have never received any response other than the auto-generated 'we typically respond to emails within 2 business days". There is no online chat feature and no phone number listed for them on their website. I doubt I will ever be paid for this ring plus I am out of pocket for the shipping cost as well.
Unserious company! I bought a antique from Catwiki and in description stand that the object will be sent by a proper certificate but what I received was a A4 paper made in WORD doc by a child. I gave the seller a negative feedback and Catawiki just removed my feedback after some days. I realized then that many other buyer had also same issue but catawiki had changed their feedback to Neutral! So Catawiki is not a trustworthy site ever much worth than eBay. (At least eBay do not remove your negative feedback) Below you can see how the seller treated me and Catawiki did not do anything!
Answer:There is customer support but you'll have to be patient. It can take weeks for them to get back to you. Buyers are protected, you just need to push and keep pushing. Sellers are required to send everything with tracking and insurance, so you should be OK.
