I signed up for their cheese membership at the 50% off to try. The cheeses I received were terrible! They were tasteless and we ended up throwing them out after trying them. Not only that but the ice packs were barely cold when it arrived and my cheeses were almost warm. It's 110 degrees here in the summer... not gonna work for me. I used their contact the concierge link to cancel my membership stating both of the complains above about a week or two after I received my cheeses. Then I received notification today that they sent another shipment out at full price. I immediately called and let the girl know I cancelled. She can't find the email with my email. I gave her a second email to try... no luck. Then I remembered I used their link on the website and that it was my default email that it was sent from so I gave that email. Still can't find it. Unfortunately since it's sent thru their link it doesn't show up in my sent file. She informs me she can cancel but that I have to keep this months cheeses because they have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Which is BS since I cancelled at least 2 weeks ago. Now I'm gonna be stuck with $60 worth of crappy cheeses that I don't want in the first place all because I can't refuse it. Convenient for them. I am almost tempted to refuse the charge with my Credit card company. If my cheeses arrive warm gain since they are shipping over a weekend I will definitely be refusing the charge and letting them know!
I've callled 5 times now to cancel this service. I've expressly told them I will refuse delivery and dispute charges. I even canceled the card associated with this account and they still managed to change me again on an inactive card and because they 'prequthorize' 5! Days in advance of charging you, there is no way to get away from this service. I've called, emailed, left messages. Currently they are 'on a corporate retreat ' and won't be responding to calls. Shocker. Having an online service and not being able to cancel online is rediculous. I will also lodge a complaint with bbb.
Even with attroricous customer service, they back it up with mediocre wines and lie about their price point. I know wine and what they send me doesn't even match the taste profiles I filled out. Don't waste your time or money on this subpar service. They tote MIT grads as founders. Shouldn't they be able to build a basic functioning service and website with online cancelation?!
STAY AWAY!
I was a member and sadly had to cancel because I moved to a state they can't ship to. That said, cancelling was really easy - I sent an email to *******@brightcellars.com (the main email on their site) and they took care of it right away. I've never written a review before but I really did love their service. Everyone should give it a try! Also the wine was SO TASTY.
I received the cheese, which was not of good quality, and then cancelled the subscription. Bright Cellars kept charging me for the next months and were not responsive to cancellation at all. Scary experience to have a company access your account despite a written cancellation.
I've read a lot of reviews on how it's difficult to unsubscribe. All I did was call them at around 10am and told them I wanted to unsubscribe. Done. The lady was very nice.
I haven't tried the wine yet. I thought it was a bit pricey as well but I have never tried Pino noir or the other stuff that I got, so I'm pretty excited!
This site matches wines to my personal tastes and preferences. The wine is great and the experience with the company has been awesome. I would recommend.
While the wines may not be worth $15 a bottle, I found it a fair price out of the convenience and variety. While I could pick up similarly priced bottles at the store, my local stores carry the same $7-8 bottles and this added a variety - and in fun wrapping with witty comments included. Contrary to negative reviews - it was very easy to cancel and I would absolutely use them again.
I am actually in the process of having my account cancelled and the reason I am doing so is because the subscription just isn't worth it. As someone who has not really explored the different types of wines, it was nice to try new things, but I could do that by going and picking out new wines myself. I did not find their selections for me to be that great, I honestly think they just send out whatever they have and say you were matched for it. And one of the bottles I got cost $7 at Specs and with this subscription I was paying $15 per bottle. And you can tell that many of the wines they send are cheap wines. So not that it is the most awful thing I have ever tried, but it is definitely not worth the cost when there are better wine subscription companies out there. The only things I really liked were the fun stickers and packaging on the bottles, the cool labels on some of the bottles, and the customer service was great for me as well. Now lets see if it is still great when I try to cancel...
No way to cancel on the site. Emails bounced. Phone number just yields 'all of our concierges are busy" on multiple calls. No response on twitter. No response on Facebook. Left a voicemail saying that I will dispute charges and refuse delivery. We'll see if that produces the desired cancellation.
I love the idea of Bright Cellars - wines curated to your individual preferences (who doesn't love an online survey), shipped monthly in beautiful packaging, with the ability to improve your selections by rating wines you've received. The first month is a huge bargain with 50% off, but after that the cost is about $15/bottle (give or take depending on shipping and state taxes). For those of us on a budget, this is a bit steep, especially considering the wines are not available to buy outside of Bright Cellars, so it's hard to know whether you are truly saving. My first 5 bottles were fine, but nothing outstanding and maybe not worth $15/bottle - that being said, maybe with some fine-tuning of my preferences that could change, but I'm not a gambling woman. Cancelling my membership was a breeze (must cancel by phone) and, given that this is an awesome startup with stellar customer service, I'm going to keep an eye on Bright Cellars and reconsider my membership if they expand their selection to include larger and more accessible wineries.
Bottom line: give Bright Cellars a chance - try your first month for less than $10/bottle, then go from there - can't lose!
I wanted to post here in hopes of saving some other poor sap from making the same mistakes I did. Bright Cellars markets their wines as "unique." Do some research and you will find out that it is all hype. Bright Cellars is nothing more than a marketing company that makes canceling next to impossible and ships out mostly undrinkable wine. (And sooooo many repeat wine brands!) DO NOT PURCHASE. I would give them 0/5 stars if it was possible. What a rip off!
I discovered bright cellars on twitter, and their product interested me. So i decided to try it. I will tell you right now i am not an experienced wine drinker by any sorts, but i have been trying to expand my tastes,
I have been satisfied with the product, sure there may have been problems with the shipping but i am willing to chalk that up to a new business maybe that is "naivete". Then again you sign up for a wine club on twitter what can you expect.
In conclusion, i would recommend this product to a friend, and i have, the 50% off for your first subscription is enticing and if your an wine enthusiast like i am it would be well worth the investment in my opinion.
They market their wines as "unique" until you actually do some research and find out that their Imported Wine is actually just a marketing hype. They are more of a Marketing Company and I would not be surprised of the wines they send out are all the same, with just different labels. We have had better $5 bottles from Trader Joes. Sad, we were taken in by their "matching" algorithm, and had hopes for some decent wines, the ones we tried were almost undrinkable. Would not recommend this service at all.
I initially wanted to cancel after the second month just because of uninpressive wine selection. But, I found it is hard to cancel. There is no way to cancel from the website. After an email request they answered initially, asking for feedback, but then would not proceed with cancellation. I had to call during their business hours to cancel. I have subscribed to wine clubs several times over the last 5 years and never had such a difficult process to cancel. With this experience I will certainly not do business with them again.
Brightcellers implies that it's easy to cancel the service, and what that *should* mean in the online world is clicks, not phone calls. To cancel you do have to manage to get a hold of them between the hours of 9 to 5 central time, M - F (so, while most people are working). Either be upfront that canceling isn't easy and customers are put through a sales pitch or simply make it possible to cancel online like EVERY SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE.
I've really enjoyed the wine but won't be using the company again or recommending it to friends because I find these tactics deceitful.
Once they tank as a wine subscription service, they should become a marketing company. Because that's all they are. They play to your intrigue, try to claim some legitimacy in their "matching" formula, and charge you $15 for something they get for $1.
No joke, if the price were exactly the same, I'd still rather drink the $3 from Trader Joe's.
Absolutely, positively do not waste your time. Do not throw away your hard-earned cash.
I cannot even go into all the details of the problems with this $#*!ty-$#*!, scamming company. Good luck cancelling your service. I have tried to cancel 5 times and they keep billing my card and scamming me. HUGE SCAM. DONT DO IT. $#*!ty, $#*!ty customer service
I joined Bright Cellars for one month to determine if it was something I wanted to subscribe to monthly. I received my first shipment and two out of the five wines were not the wines I ordered. Generally that might be okay but I am an avid red wine drinker and they failed to send two of the reds so I am stuck with four white wines and one red. I contacted them about the mistake and rather than ship the wines I ordered, the only thing they were willing to do was apply a discount to the already purchased wine because I had not yet agreed to the monthly subscription. Terrible customer service. Needless to say, I will not be a return customer and I will not recommend this subscription to anyone.
Bottom line, you can get the same wines for less locally. Also, I tried the quiz several different times from different accounts and no matter what answers I put in I was given the exact same wine selection. It's a scam, plain and simple. Buy local.
I was a member of Bright Cellars for 5 months.
Three months I was happy with my wine. In month 4, I received a bottle that was spoiled. I emailed and explained, and Bright Cellars offered to send a replacement bottle. Awesome, but this was a month away.
The following month, another spoiled bottle. Unwilling to continue down this path, I attempted to
Cancel my subscription. This took six (yes, six) emails and almost two weeks. Absolutely infuriating. In addition, the process between payment and reviewing the product was over 2 weeks. Overall, I would rather go to the store and purchase wine.$80/month for 4 bottles and the stress just wasn't worth it.
Answer: Sorry! It's going to take forever for you to get in touch with them but I would go ahead an write concierge@brightcellars to put in a cancellation.
Answer: Just send an email to the concierge asking them to cancel. They will reply asking if you'd like to postpone your shipments. Just say no, you want to cancel. And they will cancel your account.
Answer: 4 to 5 days. It is usually pretty quick. They definitely keep you posted and supply tracking info so you are up to date.
Answer: Yes! And they left it on my porch without calling me. Fortunately, I noticed the email before it was stolen
Answer: Yes and No. While the company would prefer not to, for obvious reasons, they are also very customer service oriented and will work with you.
