Booking.com Reviews Summary

The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, primarily due to inadequate customer service and a lack of accountability. Many reviews highlight issues such as harsh refund policies, unresponsive support, and problems with fraudulent listings, leading to frustrations over lost funds and unresolved complaints. While some customers appreciate the variety of accommodations offered, the overwhelming sentiment indicates a lack of trust in the company's commitment to customer satisfaction. To improve its reputation, the company must enhance its customer service responsiveness and take greater responsibility for the listings it promotes.

We have not previously had problems with Booking.com but I am not sure I shall use them again after our recent experience with their new and misleading policy. Be VERY careful when booking some hotels with them. On the 23rd of March 2016 I booked a hotel in Honfleur called Les Maisons De Lea for one night in mid June 2016. The booking was made with a Free Cancellation policy. On the 24th March the hotel withdrew the cost of the stay from my bank account plus a £7 transaction charge. At no point during the booking process or in the 'Fine Print' on their site does it mention they will do this. If you hover over a small blue question mark on the cancellation policy it says money will be withdrawn 'prior to ONE DAY before your stay'. When I questioned Booking.com they said this was within the guidelines and acceptable So it's ok then for the hotel to earn interest on £500 of our money for three months prior to our stay!? This is unethical on the part of both the hotel and Booking.com. Please be VERY aware of this new scam when you book!

Whatever you do, don't book with booking.com. I booked 2 months in advance just to find out they lost my reservations once I get there. Yes so me and my friends were left homeless 900miles from home. The bad thing is they claim it wasn't their fault when clearly they took my money as soon as I booked with them. I never had this trouble with Expedia, so stick with what you know. I hope it's not booking.com

Worst company I have ever dealt with! I booked a room with free cancellation. When I cancelled, I was charges $211 bybthe hotel. I called the hotel and told them and they said it was free cancellation, so booking.com charged me. I have called many times, been on hold for 20+ minutes each time. I have emailed numerous people and even contacted them on Facebook. Still NOTHING! Do NOT use booking.com they are a worthless, scamming company.

Great experience

Booked a room last minute in San Fran 5 star hotel. Best price you could hope for. Upon arrival I gave front desk my booking.com number and she wen to the office and found my reservation quickly. My only advice would be to call the hotel direct once you book. I will use this again

I booked Allegra's House in Rome for part of a very special trip to celebrate a 25th wedding anniversary. Out of the blue, within a month of travel and long after the booking was confirmed, I received a text from Allegra's House saying they had over booked and I would have to cancel. My reservation was through booking.com. Initially they said I would be found alternative accommodation of the same level, but the only option I have been given has nowhere near the same rating on tripadvisor. Would not advice anyone to book, either at Allegra's House unless they don't mind being cancelled at short notice, or using booking.com

Hotel I've booked through booking.com made a mistake (gave away my room to someone). Booking.com charged me with no-show up fee, and not replying my mail.
This is unacceptable and I wont use their service in the future.

Booking.com as it was very poor. Booking.com said they would deal with our case through their customer service but then emailed to say that they had tried and failed to get hold of the hotel manager so bad luck we can't help you anymore. They left it at that: very disappointed and very poor customer service. Not to be trusted.

I booked at an all inclusive for 3 people. When I checked in it said the cost was only for one person. There was never any indication that this was the case. When I made my reservation I put in a room for 3 people. We ended up paying a lot more and the hotel was wonderful about trying to help us. I emailed booking.com and never heard back from them until I called and emailed 5 days later. The agent I had to speak with was foreign and I could hardly understand her. She kept giggling about my predicament. They have horrible customer service and I will never use them again. They are very dishonest and I now see that a lot of people have had problems with them thus the low rating. I think they should be booking. Scam.

Terrible experience
March 12, 2016

It's 7:00 am Saturday and I couldn't sleep, make the story short I made a reservation in booking.com web and I was very careful to pic a room with King bed, I suppose to be charged for a "Deluxe King or double room" at the registration I was informed that has no such room available, I said I will not pay for something I didn't request, trying to reach costume service and of course NOBODY answer, was late night I was exhausted and ended up to take whatever they have. The hotel was very different from the pics, old, comfort level very poor, terrible bed, it's a mariott century center Emory in Georgia/USA, parking the car it's a war zone, I even don't want mention the breakfast quality... So be careful with this people!

Booked one night and when I arrived the room was HORRIBLE. Told by manager at hotel I had to call booking.com to cancel. Waited and waited on hold until manager refunded my credit card charge less booking. Coms fee. Booking.com says they do not charge hotels a fee but that is not correct according to hotel manager.
Tried to contact Booking.com and they have not responded to 3 different emails.
Use their site to locate a hotel and prices, but then book directly with hotel.

I had book two double room one for me and my son's girlfriend The view from the room was great, lovely view, but en suite toilet where my son stayed had an unbearable smells of sewer (poo) room no. 6 my son and his girlfriend was unable to get a decent sleep because of the smell they had to shut the bathroom door to contain the foul smell coming from the toilet, my son and his girlfriend had to have their shower in our room as they can stand the foul smell coming from the toilet. My son had written a letter of dissatisfaction about this problem and gave it to the reception, the receptionist had ask which room no. It is when we said its no. 6 they had admit they they are aware of the problem. I would not recommend anyone to stay in this accommodation

Absolutely shocking
March 3, 2016

I will never book through this site again. An absolute disgrace. The mobile app didn't work and when it did I never pressed anything but it went through and it wasn't what I wanted. They could not cancel the booking and the payment was taken out straight away and Booking.com would not give me a receipt.

Booked what I thought was ONE hotel room on booking.com. I reserved a room that could be cancelled with 24-hour notice. Received a confirmation from booking.com for TWO rooms. When I attempted to cancel a room, I was informed one room could be cancelled, but the remaining room could not be cancelled. No problem. After all,I wanted one room. But then it occurred to me, booking.com had defrauded me into getting a reservation that could not be cancelled. By giving me two rooms, one that could not be cancelled, I had no choice but to keep the one room and PAY IN ADVANCE. So much for customer convenience. I have read similar reviews of double bookings online. Booking.com is a FRAUD! RUN from booking.com.

I don't write reviews, but I must alert you tow fraud in this site. I used booking.com once to book a pousada in Salvador de Bahia for the upcoming Easter break. He following day, my Visa account was shut down for fraudulent activity. This was the only transaction that I had on booking.com. How is it possible that this fraudulent activity could have happened so soon? There is no question that the fraud originated on your site. Unbelievable that minutes after I made the booking charges were submitted in New York followed by Richmond, Va the following day at Morton's Steakhouse. Unbelievable. I will never use your site again. Buyer beware.

I have been using Booking for a few years now, and I was barelly disappointed. The only thing that I beleive they need to do better, is to have room prices to be inclusive of taxes and service charges.

- (update on May 2nd 2016)
After posting my first review for using Booking.com for a number of years, I have to admit that recently (in the last 3 months or so) booking.com has started to disappoint. You can find cheaper prices through other websites and apps. Some hotels on offer are even cheaper from the hotel's own website. Which is a bit strange. Something has obviously happenned at booking. However, I still give it full mark for ease of use and providing good information on hotels.
