I received my green tree frog about a week ago- she was relatively small and never very active. I cared for her as i should- misting her when needed and feeding her. She never ate the entire time i had her. I would put food out for her or even near her and she never touched it. She was always hiding and never to be seen often. She hardly ever moved or jumped around from one spot unless i moved her. I woke up today and had a dead frog. I am beyond disappointed and depressed. I did everything to care for her and make sure she was in shape. I'm going to assume she arrived sick due to the fact she was never active and never ate. I did everything i could and she still passed away. She will not move or react to being misted like she used to. This is just so devastating. What should i do? This is just not acceptable- it really deeply hurts people when their pets pass away. Please realzie that and help me from here
I ordered 200 small Dubia roaches to be delivered to my house for my chameleon. They were shipped via USPS and took approximately 5 days to arrive as opposed to the 2-3 day shipping they advertise. Every single roach arrived dead so I submitted a request for either a refund or a replacement. They were pretty nice and had me submit a picture of the dead roaches with the shipping label which I did and the last email I received said a refund was put on request. Fast forward about 9 days and I haven't received the refund or any follow up information. I go and check my mail and there is another shipment of 200 dead roaches. In ColoradoWe have neighborhood mailboxes instead of a mailbox on each house, and when the temperature is in the teens I don't get the mail every day. I submit another complaint and this time they ask for a picture of all 400 dead bugs assuming I held on to them for two weeks to try and pull a fast one and get a free 30 bucks worth of bugs. I said I didn't have the old roaches and didn't know to be expecting another shipment of them. They said it sounds like they sat outside for four days and their policy doesn't cover that. Long story short, I've gotten 400 dead bugs and no refund. I'm just happy I cancelled the chameleon order because I'd be lot more upset if this was a 400 dollar lizard and not 30 bucks worth of roaches.
DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SHADY BUSINESS! They send nothing but unhealthy reptiles. We spent a lot of money at this bull$#*! business and many of the southern painted turtles were dead on arrival or died with a wk. When contacted they didn't care at all. They told us to show proof of the dead turtles which we did and still didn't offer to fix this. So we ended up buying 2 more hoping it was just a fluke but yet again 2 dead on arrival and one died in 2 weeks. We have had many turtles and know how to care from them so it was nothing we did. They're shady business practices were the problem. They don't know how to treat the reptiles or their customers. Do yourself a favor and find a different place to buy from so you don't have crying kids everytime you receive a package from them.
We purchased a Russian tortoise from Backwater Reptiles a few months ago. The tortoise arrived next day in perfect health and well packaged. We now had the tortoise for a few months and had him checked out and he's in great health and has been a very fun and active pet. Backwater Reptiles has my trust for my future Reptile purchases. Thank you.
I have seen both good and bad reviews, and I'm shocked at the bad ones. This business is spot on, they answered every single email I sent to them (and I sent a lot, with questions, etc., etc.) I over paid, they refunded my money immediately. They were very helpful with the shipping process, and I received 3 healthy CB juvenile turtles. It was actually easier than purchasing at a pet store (Backwater has a HUGE selection of species) and way better than a reptile show were the reptiles are handled and ogled at by everyone, but no-one buys. I will definitely be a returning customer, my first experience was fantastic.
Maybe all the bad reviews are from beginner reptile owners, or they think buying a reptile or arachnid is like ordering take out pizza. Its NOT that simple and Backwater takes care of all the little details.
Thank you Backwater, 3 different species, super healthy and bright eyed, from your tank to mine in less than 15 hours!
Amazing!
Expect dead crickets and to keep your tarantula in a box for over a week since the terrarium will come much later than the pet itself. Do yourself a favor and don't order from them
They suck I can't get a hold of them don't buy no animals from them get them from your local breeder my first time shopping with them to check experience it was awful I woke up this morning to find out my snake is dead I wasted like $200
Order a snake spent a lil over $300 with shipping. Was told to call a 1800 number for FedEx to have the animal sent their for pick up. FedEx auto system gave me a list I picked the one closest to me. It was signed for at the location at 333pm picked up a lil after 4pm. Get home by 430pm snake is dead. Spent days emailing them cause no one answers the phone. Finally get told I'm not getting reimbursed or a new snake for free cause I picked an unacceptable location... that FedEx gave me. Now they did offer a discount to send me a new snake I just needed to pay an additional $250... I would buy a snake from them. They do not honor their live arrival guarantee. Will be taking my business to underground instead. Got a blue iguana from them that is amazing.
I ordered a goliath birdeater spider and it died a day later. They told me he had yo be molting I sent In a photo of the dead spider. And they sent a replacement that arrived DOA. Sent in a photo they again say he is molting. Now they are saying I need both of the spiders to show as proof. The spider was so smelly from keeping over the weekend cause they were trying to tell me he was molting. After I was told I was getting a replacement I threw it out. Now they are saying I need both spiders in one photo for my money back. Also the replacement arrived with a broken leg and his abdomen was partially unattached from his body. I repeat do not order from them.
DO NOT order from Backwater Reptiles, PERIOD
I ordered a Mexican Red Knee Tarantula, i wanted an adult female and they shipped me a baby female that arrived dead with a ruptured abdomen from the piss poor packaging job in shipping, they claimed responsibility saying it can sometimes happen yet they never issued me a refund, never sent a replacement or even APOLOGIZED for literally killing my tarantula, they took my money and robbed me, plain and simple, they even went as far to block me on social media after complaining to them and calling them out on what they did, REAL professional
Avoid this place at all costs, take your business elsewhere, unless you wanna get robbed, be lied to and/or end up with a dead animal
This is the worst company to ever deal with! We ordered an African Bullfrog that was $25 and shipping was almost $50. They guaranteed live delivery but it arrived dead. We contacted the company and offered to send us a new frog for another $25 or they could have refunded the money of just the frog and not the shipping. So we chose to get a new one which arrived injured. When it hopped it would flip over every time. So overnight it flipped over in its water and drowned. The company will not contact us back to get a refund! HORRIBLE COMPANY!
Terrible company, absolutely garbage customer service. They are a complete scam. And they have some smart $#*! mouths on them too, someone should walk into the facility and take their license, leave them with nothing, so that they learn not to $#*! with so many peoples patience and money. DO NOT BUY HERE, SHUT IT DOWN
There is a phone number which nobody will ever answer. There is an email which you can use for communication. They will gladly take your money for an order which they don't have in stock and email you days later with all sorts of excuses as to why they can't communicate with you. Worst customer service ever! Do yourselves a favor and buy from a company where you can speak with a live person who can assist you and a company who can communicate with you. If they can't communicate, you can't trust them!
They lie. Their whole guarantee and percent of animals that arrive DOA. All lies. They will send you a dead animal and rob you. After they rob you they'll turn off the phone during their business hours. Please do your business elsewhere.
Billed first then Asked for license and credit card picture, then bills. Never got a pet! Stear clear!
We bought a bearded dragon and he's good and alive but buying feeder crickets they send the totally wrong size and then grill you for repeated pictures of shipping labels (apparently they don't have a record) and pictures of the wrong product they sent and then ghost you. TERRIBLE customer service. Doing my business elsewhere. 1/2 inch ordered but pinhead sent and they sure don't believe me.
I got a chameleon, she was supost to be 3-4 inches but when she arrived she was 2 inches way to small to be shipped. She lived less then 24 hours, Britney is not willing to do anything said she has been shipping for years and has never had an issue clearly this is not correct. By at your own risk!
Took money but then never sent the product demanding a minor send in a photocopy of their ID/Driver License (not possible), a photocopy of their debit card, and social security number because of a billing/shipping address mismatch. When emailed, a couple times, that the information requested wasn't possible and an explanation why the addresses didn't match (USPS doesn't ship to our physical address so billing is at a PO Box) Blackwater Reptiles continued to ask for the same documentation. After complaining that the process and user experience was poor Britney at Blackwater Reptiles took the complaint as a "tantrum" saying we were banned in the future from purchasing anything. Don't buy from this place as they can't take any criticism and respond with further poor customer service.
I received a sick boa constrictor with several mites and ticks on it. The boa was in clear distress. It appeared it had mouth rot and it kept gasping for air and to breath. The snake was completely infected and sick. This snake died from it's abuse from BACKWATER REPTILES. I love reptiles and snakes and I did everything I could to save the snake. The snake did not survive- BACKWATER REPTILES IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING A SICK AND DYING SNAKE. I paid over $300 for a sick snake- Not so healthy as they claimed. If I hated a business it would be this one. DONT BE FOOLED- THEIR good REVIEWS ARE MOST LIKLY FAKED.
I ordered Fire Skinks and Cuban Anoles from this site and was very happy with my purchase. I will continue to buy reptiles from this site in the future. Currently I buy feeder insects because their prices are far below what they cost at pet outlets. Crickets, hornworms, mealworms, etc are at prices that can't be beat. Unfortunately I live in a winter tundra and may postpone purchases for awhile, but if temperatures are right, this is a great reptile and food purchase.
