I created a login just to ask one simple question a few months ago. I got 1 worthless answer, but since that time I have been spammed continuously. Immediately the emails started - "Top tips to hiring an attorney"... etc. I have clicked "Unsubscribe" for months, to no avail. It's hilarious... the response: "Sorry, we were unable to process your request. Please contact Avvo Customer Care at *******@avvo.com". When you email them begging them to take you off their list... it bounces back as "undeliverable". So apparently I am spammed for life. There's no way to turn this $#*! off. You'd think a legal website would at least adhere to the law. Nope. For God's sake never use this website, you'll regret it.
Avvo protects lawyers when they get bad reviews. The facts mean nothing to Avvo staff. It is a company run by lawyers and lawyers pay fees. Lawyers simply call in to get bad reviews deleted. It is a biased company that stomps all over customer's freedom of speech and constitutional rights. A class action complaint needs to be filed to shut this company down.
They protect useless lawyers! They just say to straighten out friction with the lawyer i review instead of reaching out to the lawyer themselves to justify their incompetence and infringe on our 1 amendment. They only tolerate lying positive reviews!
Avvo does not like to be honest about bad lawyers. They try to reject negative reviews about bad lawyers. Don't trust them.
My experience has been the lawyers on this site are arrogant, rude and uninformed. In addition, Negative reviews of attorneys on this site are often hidden or difficult to find. By lawyers for lawyers often with lies or lack of candor. Avoid at all costs!
You might be able to get some contacts and follow up with lawyers via Avvo, but in general, you should do so knowing that the site is for the benefit of lawyers, not users.
Any question you ask on the site will likely receive condescending responses. Most advice ends up being: "You are probably dumb. Hire a lawyer." No matter how simple the question might be.
It's like going to a plumbing website for help on how to unclog a drain, and all the plumbers just respond with "Hire a plumber."
Avvo, like anything else lawyer related is all about protecting lawyers. I posted several reviews and most they wouldn't post or withdrew. You can't trust them, they obviously protect their lawyer members by harassing the reviewers and making them answer core and over for what they write. Same old lawyer tricks. Wear you down until you give up. I guess the lawyer paid packages must vary in order to not have their reviews published. Don't waste your time and don't expect to get reliable reviews.
Attorneys just get to be rude and arrogant.
But No help. Even if an attorney actually answers, the answes aren't good legal advice. Reviews seem false based on actual dealings with attorneys of this site.
Review I posted for lance belsome that avvo deleted:
Lance Belsome was our attorney on two separate legal matters in 2013. He abandoned the second case which was medical malpractice smack in the middle. He charged upwards of 40,000 dollars and refused to return the funds after turning the case in on itself. We lost the ability to secure a dentist to complete the work and potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in compensation. A previous case he kept half of the 25,000 and no work was done that he could show us. He sent emails to the opposing attorney with me copied on them mocking my requests for compensation. He during many phone conversations made inappropriate requests to come to my apartment and for me to pose nude for a sculpture which forced me to sever contact. He kept insisting he come over to my apartment in Venice and make me "warm chicken salad." He's so repulsive. He has made threats if I repeat those things he said to me. He had signed declarations from psychiatrists sourcing my disabilities and my level of social sophistication and still tried to pressure me into things I felt uncomfortable with. He would curse at me when I would call him. Horrible verbal assaults that I still feel some level of trauma from. His involvement in our life, specifically my life, has proven to be catastrophic. The money paid to him along with his poor handling of our case is now a primary reason I cannot seek the medical care I so desperately need.
In 2015, I received a letter stating I was having legal action taken against my nursing license. I went to Chicago and was blessed to meet Ms. Lillian Walanka. She took my case and determined that no offense had been done and cleared my nursing license. She later followed up when the state of Illinois made an error in record keeping and notified me of such. I just received an email stating my license is clear. The latter was even done pro bono. Ms. Walanka was there during a very difficult time in my life and supported me the whole way. She was not only my lawyer, but I consider her a friend. Blessings to her and her team for everything they have accomplished.
I wrote an honest review about an attorney. They did not approve it. The reviews that they approve are the ones that says good things about attorneys. If you ask questions on Avvo, they will always say you need an attorney. This site is marketing. Beware. Do not believe the reviews.
When this very same lawyer that I have written a review on deceives other innocent clients in the future, Avvo should be held accountable.
Oh please. Why would anyone believe Avvo reviews? - either good or bad reviews - when the only object of the Avvo site is to get advertising revenue and dupe desperate lawyers into paying expensive monthly subscription fees in order to get negative reviews removed while trying to procure more clients and business. Avvo is/are vultures who prey on the entire industry - both the lawyers offering services and clients in need of solid representation. Don't believe any reviews (good or bad) posted on that site!- I know from personal experience!
90% of the answers are sarcastic. You cannot delete your questions or account... I've been emailing them for 3+ weeks on how to delete a question... I keep getting emails saying they deleted them but they haven't! Which makes it so much worse and now it's more about the principal then the stupid question... like how hard could it be to delete a question from your own website? A question that didn't even provide me with answers and just left my feelings like I'm dumb for not knowing even though I'm not a stupid lawyer... I've never had to deal with anything even related to anything lawyer related...
No answer for little bit complected questions. No recommend as per my experience and not using it now any more.
So this site invites you to ask a question and when you do so its hit or miss if anyone answers, more miss than hit. I have seen others who ask questions only to be talk down to or even rude comments by these so called attorney pros. Makes me wonder how these people ever get and keep clients. Nothing but real $#*!s.
Avvo lawyers are rude and make nasty comments that are unnecessary to people who are just looking for help. It's better tonot say anything at all than to be rude.
I wrote a negative review about an unethical, incompetent attorney, William Bruzzo, that was based on my personal experience and true. Avvo posted it first. Two days later, after the corrupt William Bruzzo noticed it and complained about it, Avvo removed it, saying that it violated their guidelines! I posted it again three more times and each time Avvo rejected it. There was nothing in my review that was outside their guidelines. They lied and they knew it. They posted it the first time, but basically since William Bruzzo complained about it, then my review became outside their guidelines! I told them that they get paid by attorneys to post only good FAKE/PAID reviews for them and their site is only an advertising tool for attorneys and not trusted. People should not choose attorneys based on FAKE Avvo 5-star reviews. Knowing this incompetent, corrupt attorney, and having the first-hand experience with him, and finding out that some other people have the same type of experience with this guy, and knowing that he posts fake reviews for himself, on every site, and then of course seeing only 5-star reviews on Avvo about him, is the best proof that Avvo is not a reliable source for choosing the right attorney. The attached photo shows my review for William Bruzzo that Avvo removed.
Now it is nothing but attorneys who have too much time in their hands just hanging out and telling people how much trouble they are in and they shouldn't be talking about their personal business ect ect. Well hello what do you think avvo.com is? It is a website where people can get a legal advice from actual lawyers and you are telling people not to post legal problems/questions? At avvo you no longer get legal advice, it is a playground for pretentious idiots with law degrees.
It wont let you actually write a negative review. I tried to post my review based on my real experience and facts of the case. They denied it.
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has ratings, reviews, and disciplinary records for lawyers in every state. Get free legal advice, find the right lawyer, and make informed legal decisions.
