We monitor reviews for authenticity
I've tried several times to share actual events documented through the court so others could beware Howard Weintraub is a very dishonest person who has taken advantage of many people. Facts would not be accepted through company looking to help some Lawyers seem like they are successful and good when in fact they make up false reviews to publish. Don't trust this company.
I sympathize with the recent negative reviews. First, they basically block any negative feedback you post. Three times I modified my review and each time it was rejected for not meeting the guidelines. Their online customer service reps are rude and unhelpful. When I informed Anna, a senior customer care representative that their site is only allows for positive reviews to be posted, she replied with a snarky remark. Screenshot is enclosed of her bogus explanation. It is obvious that their main objective IS to help unscrupulous attorneys save face. I agree wholeheartedly with one reviewer that stated that we cannot file formal complaints with the regulatory board. If you file a complaint, the attorney can sue you for slander or defamation if you post your experience online. Avvo is not a reliable platform to find a reputable attorney.

My fiancé and I used this firm when we got into a car accident. Our case manager was rude and incompetent. Poor communication and representation overall. Our attorney only cared about settling quickly and collecting his attorney fee. We have used law firms in the past and this was by far the worst experience. We have tried to share our experience on Google but the firm continues to flag and delete our reviews to save face.
Avvo claims that you can write a question and have attorneys answer it, so when I did just that, a black attorney sent a scathing, highly racist attack against me and my character. When a black family attacked me in the parking lot, and me being a disabled 52 year old white woman, this black attorney said twice that I had an "irrational fear of blacks", and he did to me exactly what the black family had done. He attacked me when I wasn't doing anything wrong. When I left a return message to him, Avvo refused to put it up. When I reviewed him on his page, Avvo denied it. So, that black attorney could insult, falsely accuse, and belittle me in the most racist, horrible manner, but Avvo felt I couldn't say anything in my defense. They're frauds. I've never gone to them that I actually found a lawyer worth having. They're one sided, like the Board of Professional Responsibility, which is lawyers judging lawyers and always exonerating them. Avvo is a waste of space for anyone who isn't a lawyer.
AVVO weeds out negative reviews of lawyers, so viewers/readers do not get an accurate account of who they are looking at -- which seems very shady. Because of this, AVVO is a horrible resource for anyone looking for a lawyer. And in todays word where lawyers are conniving and slimy, people need better resources than AVVO.
I recently posted a negative review on a lawyer and AVVO didn't approve it which is weird because I'm very sure it met the guidelines. What's weird is the only reviews for this lawyer are all positive? Reading all the other reviews on this site and my recent experience with AVVO leaves me to believe they only approve positive reviews which defeats the purpose of posting reviews.
You might not need a lawyer if your workers' compensation claim, I know I did. I was promised by Jamie Adler that I would receive medical treatments due to my workplace injury and that he was experienced and would help me navigate the workers' compensation system, he didn't.
One I retained him, he disappeared. The only way he would have contact is if I went to his apartment in West Hollywood!
I refused, and he allowed my case to become denied, and never allowed me to get medical treatment. He told me that he didn't want to work on my case, but could settle for $10k even though my work injury has left me disabled, without any medical treatments.
I found another law firm who said they could help but he refuses to release my case. Watch out for this attorney and Goldberg and Loren.
A lawyer should value your claim, negotiate with the insurance company, and represent you in an appeal, not constantly inviting you to his apartment.
The ratings on this website are not accurate. Attorneys are allowed to get rid of all their negative reviews, which is deceiving to the public. For example, attorney Steven B. Chroman from Valencia, CA seems to be a reputable attorney based on avvo's rating. When you read his reviews, you will see mentions of 1 star reviews that he has received. But, you don't actually see the 1 star reviews mentioned because he has gotten them all removed. He only keeps the perfect ratings which is not fair to the public.
Beware of unscrupulous attorneys. "... we will not be submitting payment for services...". The last word I received for a firm that refused to pay my final expert witness fees. The firm "MAINOR WIRTH, LLP; Las Vegas"
A warning to all experts!
Wrote a review of my negative dealings with attorney Kay Goggins office. Met community guidelines, yet they chose to deny my review and not post it. This tells me they cannot be trusted.
I submitted a negative review on an attorney who was unethical and dishonest. The attorney disputed the review and Avvo emailed me a request to verify my review and it would be reposted. I verified it and it was reposted, then taken down again. The customer service manager claimed my review violated community guidelines and I review the wrong lawyer. I had proof to the contrary. On 06/03/19, I forwarded my concerns to their legal department but never heard from them. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Apparently, Avvo shows favoritism toward lawyers, even if they're in the wrong. Therefore, a lawyer's Avvo rating is a false representation and is misleading to the public.
I wrote a review of an attorney that was factual, true, and not at all a personal attack. It was up for a few days, then they told me that it was disputed by the attorney.
A representative of Avvo said that my review was fine and that they would post it. It was up for about 4 days and then they sent an email saying that my review didn't follow their guidelines. I read the rules, and in no way did my review break any of their rules.
I don't know for certain, but it seems that either an attorney complaining about a review is grounds to remove it, or perhaps compensation was proffered to have it removed.
I attached a photo showing my review that I had to jump through hoops just to get it to stay on there for a few days.
It seems that they have a service that attorneys can pay for that will prevent negative reviews. I know several that I would be suspicious of how they got 10 stars. I would shop around and stay away from the 10 stars - what BS
First I asked two questions on Avvo, with detailed information, none of which were answered by any attorneys. Then I asked another question, which was answered very rudely and in a condescending tone. The smart-$#*! attorney who answered must be on an ego trip --- only answering questions just to make himself feel superior. His response was very flippant, unprofessional, and he sounded like a jerk off the street, not the response I'd expect from an attorney. Perhaps there are attorneys on Avvo who want to be helpful, but I personally never got answered by any of them. I only got a smart-$#*! answer from a smart-$#*! attorney who prefers to cast judgment instead of being helpful.
I have a legitimate issue that is very serious and has caused me unbelievable damage. An attorney answered my question taking personal jabs and attacked my being "too poor to obviously afford a lawyer". I'm humiliated and beyond disgusted that an attorney would treat me like garbage when he knows nothing about my back story. HORRIBLE nightmare trying to remove my question to avoid more personal attacks.
Rip off agency. Delete negative reviews about attorney. I hired an attorney due to avvo review which were perfect. Attorney stole my money and did not do anything. I wrote that specific review at Avvo and got an email from Avvo saying they removed my review because it was not approved. Then i investigate in other websites and this particular lawyer has horrendous reviews on other websites. Don't trust Avvo. Don't trust Lawyer Rosemary Dettling.
I used Avvo a few years back, and got some helpful advice from attorneys. I recently posted a question 3 times, 3 different ways, and never got a response. I read a few recent reviews of this site now having a bad reputation with lawyers. I think this site is on a slide down and out. Too bad as Avvo was very helpful one time.
Avvo posts anonymous negative ads against attorneys then calls the attorneys software to remove it
You only get one free question. Sometimes you don't even get a response from lawyers and them when you try to contact the website, they take a long time to respond.
Some of the lawyers that reply are really rude based on posts that I've read. Do they not realize they can lose clientele that way? They don't seem to be very smart. Some of them when they reply tell you to seek legal counsel so as not to answer the question posted.
They really don't give good advice.
I am a practicing attorney and my "profile" was posted some time ago to the Avvo site without my consent, along with an arbitrary 6.5/10 "rating," with zero reviews, which apparently came from nowhere. I called and was told the rating comes from an "algorithm like Google," but that makes no sense as I do not participate in the respected attorney rating services like Martindale-Hubbell and therefore have never been "rated" by anyone. They agreed to remove my profile after a few weasel-worded emails trying to defend this nonsense.
The deal, apparently, is that you can join this "service" and gratuitously endorse other lawyers to gain ratings. It also sounds like you can pay money to raise your rating or what have you.
It's flatly libelous in my opinion, given that attorneys are added to the site without contacting them first (presumably from some web crawler scraping the state bar websites) and unless you agree to participate, you are saddled with a baseless low rating.
It's hard enough to build a professional reputation without these yahoos extorting people to participate in their meaningless database.
Don't encourage them.
Worst attorney reporting service! Do not believe their website. They are driven by money and when you give them money they still dont support you and they put lies up on their website about you that are not true or they won't let you explain it. They also won't remove reviews where people lie and they won't investigate them to the attorneys favor don't give credibility to their site also they won't let you off the site if you demand to be removed. It's a one sided scam site in my opinion.
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has ratings, reviews, and disciplinary records for lawyers in every state. Get free legal advice, find the right lawyer, and make informed legal decisions.
