I enrolled with the annual plan which gives me 12 credits a year. It turns out this is more than what I can read in a year. However the plan keeps billing me year over year. Even worse, only 6 credits can be rolled over each year. I was planning to use up my existing credits and continue when I need more. But all their options were bad:
1. Keep the membership as is, they will charge me again on the next billing cycle and make the situation worse
2. Cancel it, they will take away all the credits immediately (18 credits in my case)
3. Accept a downgraded plan of $10, you will take away 6 credits every six months
What a crazy strategy! I think broader audience need to be aware of these issues because it was not obvious in the signing up process.
When i canceled my membership, they started taking the money out of my husband's bank account. After he spent an hour with them on the phone canceling the bogus account, they started taking money DIRECTLY out of my son's personal bank account. Now how they got their bank information must be criminal as my son never once purchased anything from amazon prior to this. He is 20 years old and works very hard in the building trades. THEY ARE STEALING MONEY FROM HARD WORKING AMERICANS. As if we havent suffered enough in this country. WE NEED TO SUE.
I've had Audible for about 16 months and occasionally listen on my Kindle. I haven't bought audio books in some time but I (mistakenly) assumed that my monthly credits would accumulate. Today I happened to log in to my account and learned the max carryover is 6 credits! This is the 1st I've heard of that. So, basically I've been throwing $14.95 out the window for over a year. I take some responsibility for this because I received a free trial with my Kindle purchase and never bothered to cancel, but I assume the 6 credit max was buried in fine print and that's pretty shady. I hope a class action suit is in the works.
I hadn't used 3 credits and decided to stop my monthly billing. When I did so, all of my credits disappeared. Within 10 minutes of cancelling, I called Audible and they told me there was no way to recover or reverse this unless I re-enrolled. This would mean I would be charged double and only get one credit for this month. I thought I would be able to use my credits I already paid for. What a scam. I won't be back.
I had a membership paying them 14.95 a month. I wasn't using my credits so I asked to stop automatic payments. I was told if I stopped I would lose all outstanding credits if I stopped the auto account although I could keep what u had already paid by paying ten dollars a year. Why don't they deduct that from all the money I have already paid them. Beware these people and their scam.
I have had a horrible experience with Audible. It's unfortunate. Although, I have purchased now several audio books, I still cannot play any of them on my computer. They operate on my phone only. I have called mutliple times to get the technical difficulties resolved and I have to uninstall and reinstall the programs and settings over and over. It is a terrible application. I would recommend downloading to iTunes instead. I have downloaded all the books to my computer, but none of them will play, and I will have to download them all again to play them in another application. I have tried to get help from the customer service and they don't listen to what I am saying at all. I have seriously been on the phone with them for almost 2 hours on one occasion, explaining myself over and over to new people. I called again yesterday to ask for their help and after being on the phone for 40 minutes, the service rep said she would check on something that might help and get back to me in a half hour. I stayed late from work to get her call back. I never heard from her again. Guess what? I have to start all over again with someone new. Honestly, save yourself the money and the frustration and get the audio books that are free at the library.
I started a free 30 day trial of Audible and about half way through I canceled the service. I double checked that all was canceled and forgot all about it. I recently found out that Audible AU was debiting my account the $14.99 monthly fee?! I contacted Amazon who informed me I needed to contact Audible (despite Audible being an Amazon company) and after a 2 hour lengthy conversation with a rep who ignored me every time I told him I wasn't interested and to cancel the account I did not sign up for! In the end I gave up, contacted my bank, canceled my Credit card and instructed my Bank to block Audible AU from taking any money from my account. I then contacted Amazon and was informed that when I updated my Credit Card info with the new card that Audible shared the same Credit Card database and would deduct any money they considered owed to them from my account. Needless to say I canceled my Amazon account! Unbelievable that Amazon could allow this to happen. STAY AWAY FROM AUDIBLE THEY ARE A SCAM!
I received this for Christmas 2015 from my sister. I still haven't been able to use it. When I called customer support, they were useless. When I asked for a supervisor, THEY HUNG UP ON ME.
DO NOT USE THIS TERRIBLE SITE
I joined today with the 30 day trial. Couldn't get that free book to load. Tried to purchase another. That wouldn't load. Although both were in my desktop library neither show up when logged in to my Samsung S6 (but my credit cards are listed without issue). When I looked the books up in the app it says I have already purchased them but clicking on them leads to error pages without any understandable explanation. Cancelling took several screens and showed next steps below the fold (feels a bit deceptive). I couldn't even explain the reasons I was leaving because their form limits characters giving you about a sentence to work with.
So I got a new chip card and did not get around to updating my info (I run 2 businesses and always very short on personal time) with Audible. They sent me an email or two but being behind in listening to my Audio books I did not rush to update it, After all I had FIVE credits (like $90 worth) that I had paid for so I figured I was good for a long while. Well guess what! When they cancel your account they also cancel your paid credits! You have to have an active credit card on file to use the credits you have already paid for! I think that is flat out customer FRAUD!
The treatment I originally received over the phone regarding my use and charges did not go well. However, since that time I was contacted by email and the situation was addressed differently. Thank you for being response to your customers.
Their satisfaction guaranteed return policy is amazing! The site and app are wonderful!
Only gave it one star because I wasn't able to give zero. Very awful scamming resource. As so many others have pointed out, after signing up for a FREE trial, they immediately charge your account $16 without having asked whether you want to use audible or not. I also never gave any card information to them, so my information was stolen from my amazon account, which I do not appreciate. And the credits that I did pay for, (even though I wasn't even aware that I had been paying for them) cancel after you cancel your account. If I had a dollar for every time they asked me to confirm my cancellation of the membership I never applied for, I'd have enough $ to shut this horrible scamming app down. Very disappointed. Do not purchase. There are many cheaper, and more moral alternatives than $#*!-audible.
Have been a member for many years. Wish the books were less expensive, and that the sort functions had been updated... But the competition is not even close., and I listen to books while driving, and while out of cell range. Until there is a better alternative, I will continue to give them my money.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and bought a new car which, much to my great annoyance, does not have a CD player, nor anyway of adding one without removing the onboard computer thing. So I finally bought 4 books from Audible. I followed everything that it told me to do, I ended up downloading an App and the software 3 times but I simply could not get the damned books onto my iTunes. I started a chat session and my god were they slow, badly trained or just thick? I tried the chat twice, each time it was painfully stupid.
After singing up for the service, my audiobook didn't play. I contacted them through their chat room to tel them is and was told it was canceled. A month later they charged me again. I called them to complain and was assured the account was canceled. A month later they charged me again. After dealing with their very unhelpful phone line, I contacted my bank who blocked their account for me. Awful!
Ok so I have never signed up for audible, nor did I know what it was until I saw a charge on my account. Somehow they had my email and both my mom's and my credit card numbers. They charged me 14.95 for a monthly subscription that I never agreed to or was aware of in the first place! Audible needs to be investigated or sued- I don't know. But judging by previous reviews, it's obvious that they need to be stopped!
I did not sign up for service and was charged for 5 months. They ended up refunding me for 4 of the 5 months, which is better than nothing, however they still stole $15.10 from me.
Tonight I called Audible to cancel my monthly subscription. I'm too busy to read one book a month, so I've got 7 credits sitting there still to be used. My experience up until this phone call had been fine.
However, upon calling a member of their customer service team I was informed that if I cancel my subscription - I'll lose my 7 credits! What the actual $#*!. I've already paid for those 7 credits. It's that bad it's almost funny.
Got offer for free trial download of 1 book which I accepted. I DID NOT give my credit card number. Registered through my amazon.in account. No where did they say that I would automatically get ' Gold Card' membership for which they would charge $14.95 every month. Suddenly they charged ~1000 INR to my credit card. No email, nothing. I trusted the company because it is an Amazon affiliate. Have cancelled membership and blocked my credit card. What a scam!

In all fairness to Audible I must report that cancelling my membership was very easy and when I contacted them at *******@audible.com with my complaint they replied very promptly and addressed the issue in the most satisfactory manner
