I cancelled my account and it seems it didn't go through for some reason, and I was charged again for this month. I used my credits immediately when I realized I was still subscribed (didn't want Art of War that badly, but bought it) and I remember the the reason I wrote when asked why I was cancelling (I don't like the practice of cancelling our credits when we cancel our membership).
So yeah, I ended up paying $45 for 3 books (MP3s) and then when I cancel it doesn't go through? Terrible site which is unfortunate because MP3s are literally no cost to the site and they still charge VERY high prices.
This site needs to go out of business so they can restructure their ripoff service, it functions fine I guess but that's not hard to do.
I have NEVER bought (or even read) an ebook. I never subscribed to ANYTHING. I never signed up for a free trial. I never clicked any boxes while checking out on Amazon. I've never even heard of Audible.com until they started showing up on my cc & bank statements. By the time I first noticed it they had already been charging me $14.95 for 6 months. I called the phone number on my statement and they canceled my membership(?) and refunded my money without too much hassle. Now (3 months later) I just discovered that they are still charging me but now they charge a different card every month. Discover, Amazon store card & this month was my debit card! WTF? If you have credit cards saved on your Amazon account you will be the next potential victim of this fraudulent scam.
BEWARE!
I have been using Audible for multiple years now and have never run into an issue.
All the 1 Stars reviews saying it's a Scam/Fraud are written by either absolute Luddites or technophobic Boomers that can't read simple sentences.
I liked the service while I was using it but I became so busy I decided to put my account on hold so I wouldn't be charged anymore until I had the time to use the service again. Luckily I get notifications to my phone each time my credit card is charged and I was still receiving charges despite being told that I wouldn't while my account was on hold. I cancelled it completely a few months ago so they would stop charging my card. I am still receiving charges to my credit card TO THIS DAY. I just spent 15 minutes on the phone again just now to cancel my membership for the 3rd time. This is legitimately the 6th refund i'm on. Horrible service. I would give it a zero if i could.
They'll charge you multiple times and refuse to refund it, no rhyme or reason, just a scam. Since reseaching this online i've noted that this is widespread and common, even afer cancelling trials, payments can be deducted for months, 2 to 3 times a month.
Here is my story:
I subscribed for a one-month free trial. I downloaded the app into my cellphone. However, latter on I could not find much use out of it. So, decided to cancel the service. And, here comes the drama. There was no option to cancel it out of the app. Ha they very tricky to make other's ducky.
Anyway, I after a lot of research and spending hours (of course getting too much irritated and claustrophobic), finally, I was able to find a clue in my Amazon account to raise a complain. I wrote them 2 times, even it did not work. Complain goes round and round and my money goes and goes out of my pocket. Such a rip off.
Theft, that's the only word that can describe Audibles terms. I am already tied to this onerous greedy disgracefully unethical organisation. Don't make the same mistake. STAY AWAY FROM AUDIBLE
Unlike many below, I have enjoyed the Audible experience. The site is not really hard to deal with, but anytime I had an issue I found telephone or promptly replied to emails addressed things well. I just today took advantage of the option of suspending my account for 3 months so I can catch up. I still have access to my credits. If I wanted to close my accounts I would lose the credits, BUT I had the option of spending all of the credits on books and they would be mine for future reading.
Audible automatically charges you every month whether you buy a book or not. If you don't use the credit, at the end of the year you lose your credit. I buy in binges normally when we're traveling so I want to stockpile my credits that I PAID FOR! This is common thievery!
There is absolutely no excuse for dropping the unused credits other than corporate greed. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE! RIDICULOUS RIPOFF!
I never subscribed to this and they are charging me. I cancelled and hope I don't have the same problem others are by them still being charged after cancellation. This is against the law. How can this be stopped? Keep an eye on your credit card charges, they are stealing!
In July of 2019 someone signed me up for an Audible membership. On my next billing cycle, upon identifying the fraudulent charges, I reported the charges to my credit card carrier as not being authorized. My bank blocked them from billing further charges. Audible went into my Amazon wallet and charged everyone of my other credit cards for a total of over $200. After calling Audible and speaking to a representative who assured me that the membership was canceled and all of my money would be refunded, I went in and deleted all of my credit cards from my Amazon wallet and subsequently reported them to my States' Attorney General.

Life of a busy working mom had left my love of books on the bookshelf, but audible has breathed new life into my passion for books! I listen in the car, while making dinner, folding laundry, walking the dog. Heck, on average I devour 2 to 3 books a month and my household chores are much more enjoyable! The website is easy to use AND if you don't like a book as a member you can return it for full credit refund. Audible has added a wonderful new dimension to my everyday life!
Over and over audible charges my credit card for an audible book when all I have ordered is an ebook from Amazon. I call and email and eventually receive a refund. Am I wrong or isn't that credit card fraud? I have notified Amazon but, obviously, nothing has been done
So~ Not all of us have cellphones, by choice, and when you are one of the few left in the world that don't have a cellphone, you can't change the method in which you receive your one time password (OTP). According to: "Akshay: I am sorry, this is to inform you that there no option to receive OTP on email." So basically, if I am at work, school, anywhere other than at home, and I log into audible and it requires an OTP, I am screwed! What's the point in paying for something you can't even easily access. Useless
I have been an Audible member of many years until today when I discovered Audible misused credit card information I provided to Amazon for the purchase of a non related Amazon item. A couple months ago, I went in with my parents to purchase a gift for my niece and we used my parent's credit card to make the purchase. Their credit card was somehow saved in the Amazon system although I did not authorize for an other charges to be placed on this card. Around the same time, my bank issued me a new credit card and I updated the number with Amazon and Audible. Apparently, when my old card number did not work for my monthly payment, Audible when onto my Amazon account, found my parents credit card information and charged their card all without contacting me or prior consent. I will not trust my account information to Amazon or Audible again. This is a breach of their terms of use.
I canceled my subscription in March 2019. I then received an email telling me that it has been canceled and I've received a refund.
They are still taking my money from my bank account. It's such a hassle trying to contact Amazon. In fact it's a bloody nightmare!
I was sceptical about this site at first as it's ads are everywhere. And I never knew that listening would be as good as reading. Well maybe it is not as good, still prefer a real life book to read but I love listening to audio in the car. Even started listening on my treadmill.
They kept withdrawing money from my account even though I had ended my membership over a month earlier.
I never signed up for a free trial and I never gave anyone my credit card info (I would never do that for a trial period anyway). I only discovered that they were charging me 15 bucks a month for the last 13 months when I accidentally signed onto Amazon of Canada instead of the the American Amazon. A of C did not have my credit card info on the account that was created in my name so Amazon of America must have shared my CC info with them based on my email address. I never visited the A of C website and didn't even know it existed. Took me 2 days but everything was refunded. No answer as to how Audible got my credit card #. My guess is someone was signing email addresses up for the sales commissions. I am not done looking into this
