The perfect place
February 25, 2023

My father was reluctant to move out of his home of 50 years. The minute we visited Blue Water Lodge he felt as ease. His fear of moving was gone. We went for lunch and we sat with some wonderful residents. By the time we left he was smiling and enjoying himself. The place was very clean and the staff were friendly.
My father moved in 2 weeks later and loves his new apartment.

Horrible Company
January 18, 2023

I reached out to A Place For Mom to place my father. He has dementia and I was having a difficult time finding a place who would accept him. I spoke to an advisor and she sent me many emails. I did my own research and decided on a board and care home. This was the worst mistake of my life. The owner made promises he did not keep. He asked me to lie to A Place For Mom in regards to the monthly fee he charged. When it was obvious my father was not being cared for properly, I was advised by hospice to remove him as soon as possible. When I informed the owner of the board and care he became very upset and told me I was responsible for the care that my father received during the nighttime hours. For 20 days I paid a huge sum and he wanted to charge me another $800. A Place For Mom would not help me at all. I reached out to the advisor and she said there was nothing she could do. I was sent to the collection agency for the additional money.
A Place For Mom is a joke. I would never do business with them again. Do your own homework because they obviously don't do theirs.

It has taken me 3 years to write this review because using A Place for Mom set off a horrible stream of events that I am still dealing with today.

After hearing my needs I felt pressured and forced to send my mother who was showing signs of dementia to an independent living situation. It became evident that she wasn't able to live independently. She had many outbursts and needed live in care which was a huge $15,000 added cost. She only stayed 3 months before she had to be moved to Memory Care. A Place for Mom is really just a pushy sales tool under the guise of helping. They really put on a great facade.

I implore anyone thinking of placing their loved one in any place that is suggested you speak to their primary care physician and even a SOCIAL WORKER. Start there. Do not start with A Place for Mom.

Fraudulent website
January 3, 2023

APlaceforMom website encourages you to write "reviews" but these are never posted. My mother signed a lease on the strength of the reviews there, only to realize reviews have not been updated in more than a year in spite of numerous negative residents' reviews for the same facility. I believe they are being censored to maintain referral relationships, which is fraud. I encourage anyone who ended up in an unsatisfactory living situation as a result of the skewed reviews here to organize for a class-action lawsuit.

Put through to a "specialist" Annemarie. She was abrupt and cut me off and said "A Place for Mom offers service only for Assisted Living facilities and private pay, we do not work with Mass Health. I thought all assisted living in MA had to make available some low income units? What a scam.

Be Very Careful
December 16, 2022

Be very careful if you are considering their service! They will hound you, call you, email you and text you. I've explained to them several times that I have found a place for my mom. They're a constant harassment. You have been warned.

A Place for Mom literally is the worst referral agency! They get your information and mass email to every facility that they do business with! Then you are called incessantly! I placed my loved one with another agency, and when A Place for mom found out where she was, they billed that facility! Steer clear of this company!

During my search for an assisted living facility for my mother I came across A Place for Mom so gave them a call to find out what they were about. After talking at length with my consultant I was excited they would help in my search and seemed to be a great resource. What was never divulged is the minute you give them your loved ones full name and the area you are looking they put you into their large database and you are 'locked in' for two years to their company. What then happens is whatever place you decide on has to pay A Place for Mom a large commission out of their operating budget. Most folks don't know this nor do they care as it's of no cost to you, just the facility. Where this backfired on me is I later found another competing company but whom are actually local and had a much better grasp on the area facilities so I wanted to work with them but A Place for Mom locked everyone else out. A Place for Mom is located across the country but does use area consultants. You may luck out with a much better one than I had. After my lengthy conversation with my consultant about being interested in only assisted living facilities he provided with a list which included appointments for mostly 'Independent Living' facilities! I explained my mothers long term care insurance would not cover, nor is she able to live independently. Followup from this consultant was practically non existent. I was back on my own. Several weeks of no contact from him I called a Place for Mom to place a complaint. The woman I spoke with was so sorry I had that experience and said she would have a new consultant call me within a day or two at most as I stated my situation was urgent. I never received a call back or email from anyone with a Place for Mom yet they received their commission from the facility my mom is now in. If you are looking for a referral service I would recommend finding one local to your area. The one who actually helped me and explained how these services actually work is called 'All About Seniors'. The owner went out of his one late evening to contact the director of the facility my mother is now in to help facilitate an in home assessment that took place the next morning. I spent considerable time talking to them all while they knew I was locked into A Place for Mom. They did this out of the goodness of their heart, not for the commission. I hope this review helps as I know first hand how difficult and stressful this process is.
Good luck to all!

Stacy Scherr was an excellent resource from the southern Ohio A Place for Mom office in August 2022. She provided tips over the phone and through checklists of questions to ask different types of senior care giving facilities. She also identified financial assistance through the VA Aid and Attendance we were unaware of and have since applied for. We were able to quickly find and evaluate Assisted Living facilities and my dad is now receiving excellent care (and excellent food in the 'mess hall' a he calls it) at Magnolia Springs in Loveland Ohio. Very grateful A Place For Mom has employees like Stacy helping families at such a difficult time.

The deceptive practices employed by APFM are absurd, and definitely not helpful when someone is seeking professional help in deciding on the best senior housing option. How can a "senior advisor" that lives in another state and has never visited any of the 12 "best option facilities" in my city that she emailed me, have any credibility or knowledge about the facilities? Answer… SHE CAN'T! Once you click on to unlock different places, the phone calls from the 12+ facilities they contract with to get paid immediately start, and they don't stop! All the rep from APFM cares about is getting paid. 10 of the 12 facilities she sent didn't even provide the care I was looking for! Thes sites; APFM, senioradvisor.com, caring.com, et al, need to be avoided at all costs. It's hard enough making this decision, but they make it even harder! I wish I would've known about a local, personalized advisor in my area before I clicked on their website. Oh, and another thing… once you click with them, they own the rights to your loved one's information, and can collect referral fees FOR LIFE! Absolutely atrocious business practices!

Nothing more than paid advertising for assisted living complexes. I was looking for help finding assisted living for my Mother. Suddenly I was receiving phone calls from a sales person in New Jersey (I'm located in Ohio). She was telling me about the various facilities located near me and she knew nothing more than what I knew and was able to find out on the internet. She had no personal knowledge of the facilities.

My mom was well cared for by the kind, compassionate caregivers here during her last years. I am grateful for their patience and encouragement. Visitors are always made welcome, I spent many hours hanging with "my old people." Thanks to the Loving Care family.

I messed up and gave this company my information while browsing their site for services. Biggest mistake. They call at 10pm/11pm at night and 6am in the morning. Told them to stop and blocked them. They call from different numbers. Avoid!

No help
November 2, 2022

I was assigned Tara Luck and all she did was send me a link that I could put my zip code in to find places close to me. Which I could of done that myself. When I asked for more help she never returned my email. I thought you were supposed to help people find place to stay.

Immediately after logging onto the site, I was asked for my email and phone number. I did NOT ask for a phone call. A pop up told me I was going to receive a phone call. There was no way to stop it. I was busy with errands and other things all weekend... including taking care of Mom. Everywhere I went my phone was blowing up with calls from this place. At times I answered it, just because I wanted to tell them to STOP... but there was no one on the other end. I feel it was a huge mistake entering this website and giving this company my phone number. The entire weekend including Sunday, it just never stopped. The last call a woman who barely spoke English left a message on the voicemail that it was the LAST call. Finally... Peace.

A Place for Mom
October 16, 2022

Before my mother passed away, I tried to get her into A Place for Mom here in Victorville, California. She had dementia. Unfortunately, they would not take her because she was too poor. I could not afford to pay for her costly private care they wanted. She ended up going to a public facility in Redlands, which was also horrible.

The reviews for the assisted living facility Ella Springs Houston TX that I pay for my mom's "care" every month should be rated 1 - 2 S instead of 4 as rated on "A Place For Mom." From my research for a place for my mom, I discovered these ratings must have a quid pro quo with highly rated facilities. No other explanation came from my research of many facilities.
