All this company will do for you is find in open bed. They will not match your loved one's personal care needs, lifestyle choices or preferences or anything else that comes with doing a full in person assessment. They get paid by a facility ho film a bed. They don't care if it's not a good fit. They are not going to advocate for the client or the family members they are helping with the tough questions to make sure it is the right fit so the transition is smooth and that it is the best fit possible for both the facility and the client. Go with locally owned placement-transitional companies who you meet in person.

Received call after call during times I was unavailable. Finally was able to speak with the initial caller. She got the local rep on the line and when I couldn't understand how it was that they were not able to assist me in my mothers situation she actually hung up on me.
Do not waste your time - do your own research. Apparently these folks are not into helping.

Worthless
September 2, 2017

Once they have your phone number, they harass you with constant phone calls from early morning until late in the evening. Different people calling so I would assume these people work from home NOT at an office. Im. Sad to have to say its a rip off outfit. Please don't waste your time

Thank you to an amazing service that got me through the most difficult time of my life! I was absolutely overwhelmed with the decision to place my mom in memory care. Paula G. At A Place For Mom helped me every step of the way! She gave me options, reviews, was able to find a beautiful place on my budget and arranged everything. She was kind, patient and an expert. All services were free and she never asked for anything and never tried to sell me anything. I can only send her my gratitude in return. Mom is safe and blessed!

SAD THAT THEY COULD NOT EVEN RECOMMEND A NURSING HOME ANYWHERE NEAR ME, BUT THEY NEVER EVEN PREPARED ME FOR THE NURSING HOME EXPERIENCE. I CRY EVERY TIME I SEE JOAN LUNDEN ON TV WITH THIS COMMERCIAL.

DO NOT CALL!
August 8, 2017

This is all about profit, not about helping you or your loved one. DO NOT CALL! You will never meet anyone in person. The majority of these 'people' work from home have have very little knowledge of the actual process. They will continue to harass you. Just tell them your parent has 'Medicaid' assistance. They will go away. ALL ABOUT PROFIT!

Disappointing service
August 5, 2017

Called looking for recommendation for 1 week of respite care for spouse. Consultant told me I would not be able to find any place that offered only 1 week. When I told her I'd just handle it on my own, she actually hung up on me. By the way, I found 2 venues that offer week-long respite care without too much effort and didn't even look further. I would NOT recommend this service!

This company never met with me in person
I finally found a lady who had purchased her own franchise to assist personally assisting in finding a assisted living home

She worked days and hours with me
She met with me & asst living facility

Yet because I had spoken to A Place for Mom over the phone a year before they claimed they assisted me in finding this facility

Upsetting totally unprofessional

I went online to look at the available and locations of assisted living near my father. I was required to enter my email and phone number to access the results. Literally seconds after I clicked, I got a call from A Place for Mom. Then two more calls a few minutes apart. Then another call 30 minutes after the 3 call. I had to block the calls in my Caller ID. What kind of scam is this. I wonder if Joan Lunden, a trusted news person who serves as a spokesperson for these scammers is aware of this harassment.

Don't Contact Them
July 31, 2017

They must just look up on the internet. Same as you can do. They sent me to help holes where I would not put my worst enemy. I ha e received so many sales calls since giving them my info. Like I hit some list. Now I see others stat that they sell your info. That would make sense. Although, I ha e no proof. Asked the woman to take me off the list and then get an email from a new person at their facility. Isn't that illegal of I ha e proof I told them to take me off the list? Do your own research. These people suck

A Place For Mom is not a business model, it's just A BIG SCAM.
All they do is to sell to Assisted Living Homes the info you provide to them for free.
They have zero expertise and 99% of the time they would not even accompany their customers to those homes.
PEOPLE wake up and do your own research! It is so simple. They claim to have expertise while they never visit the homes therefore they would not know whether it is a good fit for your beloved.
APFM is just a website network who trade the information we willingly surrender to them. Stop doing that anymore!
Search the internet, search on Google maps, make a few phone calls and evaluate the homes with your senses. APFM are claiming to be experts while they HAVE NO CLUE.
They claim to be free of charge for their elderly customers and their families looking for a nice Assisted Living Home. What you have to know is every Assisted Living Home is paying APFM 120% of one month's charge and beleive me that translates directly in the resident's charge. THEREFORE THEIR POOR QUALITY SERVICE IS NOT FREE!
APFM is forcing Assisted Living Homes to sign contracts that are against the law, in the state of Arizona. Their contract specifically prohibits the Homes from discussing with the residents or their families, the fee that APFM charges the Assisted Living Home (see attachment). The law, R4-33-408 says that the facility has to disclose and obtain signed statement indicating that a referral fee has been paid for all residents referred.
Stay away from the apfm SCAM!

Waste of Time
July 26, 2017

I went to the Web site to get help on "memory care" places in my home town. No help on the Web site, I had to put in my contact information and wait for a rep to call me back. The next day I get a call asking for a bunch of info about my situation. I tell them the name of my home town and that I'm just looking for places that offer memory care. I'd been to a couple already but just saw their commercial and thought they could help. They wanted even more information. I finally said I just want a list of places. At that point they tell me there are none in my location and the closest is 30 miles away. Why didn't they start with this information. I assume they just have a list of facilities that pay them to be "recommended". UGH. What a waste of my time.

Pesky!
July 11, 2017

I was only looking for some general information, but have been subsequently hounded by phone calls all day long, every day. The persistence with which they pursue contact causes me to wonder why they are so eager to "help" me.

A place for mom was pretty helpful helping me quickly compile a list of homes near us, and when we decided home care was better were helpful with resources for that as well. However, my MIL passed in November (it's now almost July) and I was called in December, January, and now TODAY to see how we were liking our services. By the SAME REP.

Very disappointed. No one needs to have that brought up, by someone clearly just trying to make a buck.

If you're going to work with people when they are the most vulnerable, have the courtesy to keep records when your services are no longer needed.

I would rate them negative if I could. Yes I went to the site. Yes I gave them my information. They were recommended by someone at my MiL's church. However, they immediately started calling me FIVE or more times a day. Finally on about the third day I spoke with someone and asked them to stop calling me. I needed to compile information from family members before I could have anything like an intelligent conversation. Well, they are back to calling me five times a day. No one even bothers to leave a VM. I only know it's them by looking up this second number on the internet. I'm now blocking these numbers, and I wouldn't use their service if someone paid me.

A Place for Mom has great ads but when it comes down to them providing help, guidance or insight they left me cold. In fact, in the end, the retirement home I found was not even recommended to me. Word of mouth from neighbors and friends was a much better resource. The person handling my 'case' even got me confused with another client and sent me an email basically scolding me for my choice! No apology was given until I brought the email up myself and even though the excuse was that she had so many clients... Best thing about A Place for Mom is they don't charge you! I'd recommend just searching the Internet, ask your doctors and caregivers, neighbors and friends; you'll get quality reliable information. On a side note, Visiting Angels is an excellent resource.

What a Joke
June 20, 2017

Do not use A Place for Mom!

When the web site asks you to fill out a simple form, and a "custom list is being generated" don't believe it. They ask for more information, and more information... none of which really helps to refine or define potential places for Mom.

Do not use them!

You will receive lots of emails - with canned responses. Like a scam always asking for a few more details. If you give them a phone number, you will get lots of calls.

Just say no... go elsewhere.

DO NOT CALL THEM!
June 13, 2017

They will sell or give your information away and you will be called and emailed multiple times by multiple organizations. This is harassment! You tell them to stop and they won't stop! The last thing someone needs when at the point of placing a loved one in a facility is this kind of unrelenting harassment. SHAME ON YOU, Place for Mom, for taking advantage of people in vulnerable situations. And SHAME ON YOU Joan Lunden for preying on people this way! Karma is a b! Tch and I hope she finds you.

Not helpful at all
June 12, 2017

I agree with the majority of reviews that A Place for Mom is not the altruistic organization that Joan Lunden makes it out to be. I called when I needed a place for my mom (duh!). I received a return call from a APFM rep who is based 3 states away from me and had no idea about senior living in my area. She was able to come up with 3 listings that turned out to have nothing near the requirements I outlined for her. I did better researching, investigating resources, and navigating "the system" on my own. After numerous follow up calls from her, I finally emailed and told her I no longer needed her help. She is still calling me a year later. Had to block her number. Do not recommend.
