This website teaches nothing as a student I know it sucks. This is way to bad it is a waste of money. The worst part is that the knowledge checks are bull$#*!. Every single component of this website is bull$#*! every single topic also. This website takes 10 hours to load even though I have 100mbps network. The explanations are worst than my bull$#*! math teacher who forces us to do this bull$#*! website. In case you are a school do not hire Daniel Ruzicka.
I am not your normal college student, I am a non-traditional student (returning older student). I love math/algebra until the college I attend switched from my math lab to Aleks. Not only is Aleks more expensive it is harder to navigate and does not reinforce the topics it is trying to teach a student. Four correctly answered questions is not sufficient enough to consider a topic "mastered". I am happy this program works for a few individuals, but in a college algebra class of over 22 students only 1 indicated they actually learned and excelled this semester. If i ever encounter Aleks again in any of my classes or professional career you can rest assured I WILL NOT USE THIS SYSTEM AGAIN!
My teacher forces us to do at least two hours of ALEKS each week, and I have better things to do other than sit on a computer, doing types of math that I won't even be using in my future career. Not only that, but it's too much to force on elementary, junior high, and high school students. ALEKS has me on the computer, wasting my eyesight and time, and I'm never going to use things like histograms, also, nobody wants to do the idiotic "Knowledge Tests"! Stay away from ALEKS at all costs is what I would say.
I've noticed most of the good reviews of Aleks I've seen are from teachers and parents. They're constantly talking about the statistics; how many topics their students learned and how happy they are to be able to see the progress right in front of them. The Aleks website itself doesn't feature any actual testimonials from students whatsoever either (that I can find).
The truth is that I can't actually see any reason for a student to enjoy this program.
The explanations are nearly indecipherable and the program uses paragraphs upon paragraphs of excessively complicated math terminology that REALLY shouldn't be shoved at students. Every time I reach a new topic my soul dies a little inside - and here I thought textbook explanations were bad enough.
Also, every once in a while an automatic "Knowledge Check" appears out of the blue where you have to sit through 30 grueling questions before you can move on. Not only that, but each question is from a different topic and if you make a single mistake then you have to relearn the topic all over again. So you end up spending over an hour working on this "Knowledge Check" only to end up unlearning several topics.
I could go on and on but I think I've made my point.
If you're looking into online math education, please don't try Aleks. Maybe as a teacher or a parent you'd be happy with this program, but as a student myself who used to be very interested in math before the public school education system stamped that interest out of me, I am sick of Aleks.
Aleks is the reason I'm going to fail 9th grade. The teachers set the topic goal too high and I keep getting topics that you learn in like 3rd grade.
One of the worst websites to learn math from. The knowledge checks take forever, the topics take forever, the website is slow, the explanations make no sense, it teaches math in a completely counterproductive and frustrating manner, and it severely punishes you for the slightest errors. I am outraged at the mere fact that my school forces us to use this mistake of a program in order to get a decent grade in math.
I thought it couldn't get any worse than MathXL, but lo and behold, here comes ALEKS to blow that steaming pile of manure out the ballpark.
Would it KILL you to tell me what exact problems I got wrong, and what I needed to review? In fact, the topics it tells me I need to review are the ones that I already mastered? How about the ones that I clicked "I don't know" on, or, you know, got wrong? You also have to review TWENTY topics before you can take a "knowledge check" test that will inevitably have topics that you didn't review on it. I love having no idea what topics are going to be on the test, because it's different every attempt. You basically just find topics you're not sure about to study and hope that you get ones you're solid in when it comes to the test, because it seems to be a complete crapshoot on what problems you get on it. No formula reference either? How about including some basic math symbol buttons on problems instead of having to type it or go the calculator every time? And what genius came up with the idea of locking you out of a topic if you get too many wrong? Wouldn't you want me to continue learning it?
I'm no savant, but I got a B in Honors Precalculus, so I'm no dummy when it comes to math either. I also actually like math, but ALEKS is really making me rethink that at this point. Overall, this website is slow, glitchy, and poorly designed. If only I could give a negative score. I pray this placement test will be the last time I ever have to lay eyes on this godforsaken website. My heart goes out to the rest of you who have to deal with this nonsense.
Okay, so Aleks gives you this little "heads-up" of what you'll be working on when you start a new topic, going over what you need to do to find your answer. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. So very, very wrong. It gives you the most bare-bones explanation possible, throwing in nuanced things in the middle of a boring paragraph of instruction that sometimes turn out to be critical info, and most other times just more useless words. Words that somehow are supposed to tell you how to do one tiny, amazingly important part of a problem. Many times, I have easily finished a problem or two without too much trouble, and then I get to the third (sometimes second) problem, which always stumps me. I either guess, look up something that is much more helpful than Aleks' way (to their OWN PROBLEM, I should add), or work for half an hour on this one tiny problem. My answer is wrong 90% of the time. Sometimes it's that one little piece of nuanced, difficult to read and/or understand info, sometimes it's faulty coding, which this site is notorious for. But usually, it's because Aleks didn't sufficiently explain how to do that type of problem, tossing in an impossible (without the proper instruction, at least) to complete problem at the end, for seemingly the sole reason of adding time to that topic. It's so incredibly frustrating that I (and other students, oftentimes) forcefully slam down a laptop lid, or punch a screen. Better, more comprehensive explanations are required to make this site even the least bit tolerable, and it really, really seems to just want to make you hate it.
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down, into my core
Where I've become so numb, without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there, and lead it, back, home
Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life
Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life
Bring me to life
Frozen inside, without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are my life
Among the dead
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Don't let me die here
Bring, me, to, life
Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life
Bring me to life
Bring me to life
It is the dumbest thing I have ever done. Teachers need to understand it doesnt help anyone. We have lives and dont have time to spend 2 hours on aleks. I play soccer and volleyball and have 6 other classes that i need to pass and work on. I have a mental breakdown every time I have to do knowledge checks and the topics and the frustrating assignments that my teacher assigns everyone. Im in and honors class so we have to triple the topics as the regular classes. I like math but aleks makes me wan to kill myself!
This sucks so much especially goals I hate this so much why do I have to do it it sucks I hate it I hate it I hope the site gets taken down I hate this so much it sucks
I go run a for 3 hour come back AND IT HAS JUST LOAD! IT IS THE DUMBEST MATH SITE! I RATHER BE IN A COMA FOR 3 WEEKS AND IT WILL COMPLETE MY KNOLAGE CHECK I HAVE LOST MORE BRAIN CELLS THAN I HAVE GANED
It teaches me NOTHING! I like the actual math homework in a book better, because at least you can learn from it. Aleks is just do math with extremely vague explanations, no help it all. It's an excuse for teachers to do other stuff and neglect students. Don't try it.
Aleks makes homework take longer! No scanning ahead to the next probelm or whipping through homework with Aleks - No way - Aleks decides when the next question will load, (if ever!) And whether or not the question you just completed will even register with the super slow servers!
Procrastination and time wasting should be at the student's discretion, not in the hands of some dumb-$#*! slow computer program that lags and logs out and hangs,...
Aleks is awesome! If you get one problem wrong, it buttf***s you! Also it gives you these useless knowledge checks that just add more "lessons"
ALEKS needs to return to the depths of hell from it's from because it is exactly just that. It is the most tedious, annoying, frustrating, tiresome, mentally exhausting program I have ever used, whoever the creator of ALEKS, you are a horrible person and my life has been wasted trying to do Chemistry homework through your system that my university forced me to pay over $100 for. If you can avoid having to use this system for any class, I highly suggest it! LOOK AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY DO NOT USE ALEKS FOR THAT CURRICULUM AND IF THEY DO, DO ALL OF IT ASAP, the knowledge checks will make you pull your hair out. I HATE YOU ALEKS!
The website is not at all reliable and it doesn't teach us the way it does in school. When you get the right answer it says you don't get it right. Whoever made Aleks is a complete $#*!.
It's annoying, I prefer Khan Academy and what is up with this review I am writing it has to be 100 characters. Either way, I just don't like Aleks because you cannot learn properly and they teach differently than in schools and academies. I just hate it when I use a method that was taught in school and the Aleks Website is to simple-minded to know more than 2 methods even if there are like, I don't know 8 methods for 1 question. Either way it sucks and it wastes my time and the company behind it takes up a bunch of money from some stupid math and chemistry problems. I feel like this a "friendly" scam or just some turd I deal with (It's both a scam and turd, what do you think I gave it a one star). Now for those who read this I respect your opinion, even if you don't agree with me. Personally, I think Alek needs a life.
Answer: Because the ALEKS program is literal hell and we people are just showing our hatred for it
Answer: Most likely.
Answer: Yes deal with it
Answer: Because people want to commit suicide in an original way, and ALEKS is the best way.
Answer: I don't think so but believe me a class action suit would be an improvement
Answer: I paid over $150 for this sumbi**h, I expect it to work
Answer: No i do not think the website owner has issued one but I think the feelings for aleks would be "down the toilet"
Answer: I realize this reply is very late but in case for anyone who needs it: -Let's say you're learning how to use long division. They have 3 questions in it. You master the first one, then go on to the next one. You get the second one wrong, guess what? They punish you and take back your first answer so now you have to answer it again. -How fun! And don't forget the useless knowledge checks!
