The company's reputation is significantly marred by numerous customer complaints regarding deceptive sales practices and inadequate customer service. Bait & switch! Stay Away!
February 17, 2015

Watch out for the bait and switch tactics from the company! I ordered a Flat screen for a great price, then was contacted and told the model I ordered was an import that was only good for Canada and would not receive USA support & warranty. The USA model added another $265 on to the price I already paid. No where on the order page does it clearly define what "import" is. I ended up canceling my order after the sales representative tried to talk me into the sale of the "USA" model. This was my first and last experience with Abe's of Maine!

Wonderful deals and the site was easy enough to navigate. They even called me personally because they wanted to make sure I knew the return policy on lenses and whether or not the one I purchased would fit my camera. Can't wait till it arrives

OK
February 4, 2015

OK. So this is an updated review for a very bad experience I initially had. The bottom line was that after I made an order I received a call to try and get some more money for a product I purchased. I went back and forth with them for a week and ended up writing a really bad review. I then got a call, they apologized and promised to improve my customer experience. They shipped the product same day and honored their web price as ordered. So although my experience was painful, at least I can now say I got compensated for the bad customer service. I'm writing this but still have not received my TV but I believe they have learned their lesson, hopefully future customers will be treated better.

I'm hoping the arrogance of the headline I wrote at the bottom will help someone who isn't sure. Half of the reviews here are one-star. That's real bad. And it looks like someone working for Abe's did the bundle of five star reviews all in the same month. I'm a 30-year pro and can't believe I actually ordered a grey-market D750 from these guys, today. How stupid can I be? Very stupid if I think I'm saving $700. Got the requisite after-hours phone call (that I was promised earlier in the day I would not receive) saying I ordered an import, which I clarified was a Grey Market body (no warranty). This guy actually said with a straight face that the camera's Menu and Display on the import version are not in the English language and cannot be programmed in English, but he would sell me one that does come in English for $400 more. I said he was lying, twice, and cancelled the order with no further discussion. I am also certain the camera that "speaks English" he offered for $2,000 and said was "USA warranty" is the same grey market camera listed for $1,550. I was willing to gamble and not have a warranty for the $1,550 price, I thought for exactly one day anyway (Store-offered warranties are worthless). The only way to get a NIKON USA warranty (the only one that will get your camera fixed) for a D750 is to pay the current $2,299 across-the-board price for this camera at a Nikon USA dealer. That's what I'm doing tomorrow. This whole experience made me feel angry at myself for being an idiot, and sad for the other 'customers' who were excited about ordering their new camera and then, on a daily basis, around the country, are getting these phone calls and lied to by professional liars. That's their job. To lie and con. To create alarm and panic. I understood right away what was going down. Unfortunately most don't have a clue. What got me to try them? Why, they have a website that makes you think they're a homespun ma and pa place that grew into a bigger deal because they're so darn special kids. Damnation. Just shoot me. (There's a little square checkbox below this asking if I want this business to see my review. If only I could do more).

Jeff Stevens called a few hours after I made the order online. He confirmed the order and made sure it was what I wanted. He offered to upgrade the shipping at no extra charge to get it to me faster, and it arrived in 3 days. Great service

I ordered a Nikon D5300 with 18-140 mm VR on 27-Nov-2014 for a good price. Website indicated that it's an import model. Before ordering, I called them and made sure that the camera does come with strap, battery and charger. One day after the order, I got a call from the sales rep who explained to me that it was an import model with no instructions and LCD is in Asian language. I said I am okay with it. I again confirmed that it does come with battery/charger/strap. He said "yeah, all that is in the package." I said "please just go ahead and ship it."

But till now I did not receive it despite repeated calls and email. Friends please convey the message to all and do not recomment this site to anyone. I am also taking leagal action against them.

I ordered an "imported" T5i and didn't realize it, even though it was clearly stated on the listing. I just saw the price and ordered.

I then got a call from Roy and he explained the difference between retail and import.

So I decided to go with the retail version even though it was more expensive.

Roy noticed that I was a first-time buyer and he could get me an additional discount. It was actually a very generous discount and the retail version ended up only being about $60 more.

I know some people are upset about the "import/retail" thing. But I actually appreciated the call to explain the difference.

In the end, I got the camera I wanted at a good price

BAIT AND SWITCH!
December 26, 2014

BAIT AND SWITCH!
I am outraged at the bait and switch tactics of this unscrupulous company. Their conduct goes beyond bad business and should be the subject of a criminal investigation. I see now that what they did to me is commonplace for them. As you have probably heard before, wish I read the reviews first. I have never seen so many consistently bad reviews on yelp for any company anywhere.

Here is what Abe's of Maine did to me. On December 13, I ordered a Sharp 90" TV from them because that had the best price advertised on the Internet for the TV. They never shipped the TV. The status of the order on their site still shows as "order received." When I called today to see what is happening, their employee told me the price $2,649.00 was a typo, refused to honor my order, and told me that I could buy the same TV from them for $6,000.00! This is completely unacceptable.

I asked them to honor and ship my order. They refused. Contrary to the false claim of their employee, they never sent me an email canceling my order. The first time that I got the "price is a typo story" is when I called their company after their 14 day delay in doing anything with my order.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIER ADVERTISED PRICES! Do no do business with this company!

Terrible customer service
December 21, 2014

Terrible customer service. Like others, I have found what the company promises and what they deliver are not the same. Ordered a Canon Powershot SX50 HS and got a call asking me if I was aware the low price was for an import and that it would not be covered by a US warranty and that the accompanying materials would not be in English. After telling them to please just cancel my order (several times), I was offered lower prices, but when I stated they were still over my budget, the salesman finally put me on hold to see if his manager could think of an additional discount they could offer. Guess what? They did find another discount they could offer which dropped the price to what other online retailers were offering just two days later. Still, I accepted that price and went ahead with the order--which was not shipped for 3 more days and took 7 days to reach Seattle. Then, the order was incomplete--no warranty card or other info was included and no Canon software CD to download the photos to a computer--both of which were supposed to be included in the package. Couldn't reach Abes of Maine by phone as the waiting lines were (understandably at the holiday season) long, but they didn't respond to my acknowledged email complaint. Use another online retailer!

BAIT AND SWITCH SCAMMERS!
December 17, 2014

BAIT AND SWITCH SCAMMERS! Called me to say I ordered the 'import' with japanese menu & for $154 more I can get the 'american' version. I wanted to wait and shop around so Jeff said he would email the new order for me to approve before it was final. After a few hours, I hadn't received the email so I called to check on the order. I emailed a cancellation 3 times and called 3 times. Then I saw I was charged for it. I called again and they said it shipped. Nothing I can do. They're offering a $50 credit and if I want to return it there's a $75 restocking fee so I may as well just keep it and enjoy it. NEVER AGAIN. DON'T SHOP AT ABE'S OF MAINE. WORST BUYING EXPERIENCE EVER.

Scam Scam Scam
December 16, 2014

Scam Scam Scam. Purchased a Samsung LED tv. Received a call from Abe the next day. He said the TV I will get at that price is not made in Japan, but one made in Malaysia with bad parts. For $200.00 more I can get one made in Japan. When I refused to bite they wanted to add $100.00 for shipping insurance. I told them to cancel the order. They never did. They will hang up my credit card because it is a pending charge and cannot be disputed. I called Samsung and they said Abe lied... no such thing about different TV's of the same model made in different places. This is a boiler room bait and switch operation. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM ABES OF MAINE

Highly dissapointing!
December 2, 2014

Highly dissapointing! I placed an order for Nikon Coolpix and the status was In process for long. When i call up the customer care, where i get to talk to the person incharge after being on hold for a really long time, i get to know that the model which i ordered is in Chinese and to get one in English i have to pay a 100$ extra. Nowhere in the site do i see that this model supports only Chinese. Looks like a nice way to bump up that extra price which is quoted on the other sites. I read good reviews about the site before ordering but did not expect such bad response and rude behaviour from their end. Cancelled my order. The way this way handled was very bad and annoying. Worst ever customer service.

This place is nothing but a bait & switch operation. Placed an order for a Canon camera and picked expedited 2nd day shipping. Huge mistake. They sat on the order for three business days then emailed me stating that I had to call their sales rep to correct an issue with the order. The issue was that they wanted me to change the order to a model that would cost $200 more because the one ordered is an import (here is a hint, Canon imports all their cameras). The sales rep continues by asking "Are you going to use it within the USA, because it won't work here"... really? Interesting concept, a camera won't work within the US because it is an import (yet all Canons are imports). Then goes on to state that camera battery charger isn't compatible with the 110/120 volt system in the US. After about 5 minutes of their lies, they finally agreed to process the order and ship. Two business days later, they actually shipped. So five business days after the order, they actually processed it and shipped even thought they were paid for 2nd day shipping, they sent it on a Ground service that took three business days. Since when does paying for 2nd day Express shipping equal five business days to process and three business days on the shipment time itself? I should have read about their method of operation on the internet before ordering.

Terrible service, rude, deceptive. I ordered a Nikon DSLR from the website. No email confirmation. Day later a guy calls and says I should expect all these problems because I ordered an import. Aren't all Nikon's imports? He gives me the hard sale saying what I ordered won't have a battery, software, manuals, warranty, etc. For another $300 my new Nikon will come with all the normal accessories. Guy gets rude and pushy when I refuse to engage in his bait & switch. He suggests my order will take two to three weeks to arrive. Someone ought to sue Abe's of Maine for false advertising! They're liars, operating from New Jersey, not Maine. Don't waste your time.

Hi
March 19, 2014

Hi

This has to be the worst company in the world! I placed an order with them. I never got my order. And now it looks like they filed to bankruptcy and reopened show in a different state to avoid there responsibility to there customer of delivering the products they got paid on. I have tried to call them and email them and all I ever get back it a default email saying.

Thank you very much for shopping with Abes Of Maine
Please contact our customer service department at *******237 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you.
Your business is greatly appreciated and we look forward to hearing from you soon and resolving the issue!
Sincerely,
Abes Of Maine

They never care to forward my email to the correct person.

If it's true they filed for bankruptcy how is it that they are still using the same domain name and adverting? This is very misleading to customers.

Negative five stars
