I spent $150 on a book that was not delivered! Not only did i not get my money back, my account was terminated! I emailed and emailed but nothing, just "check your account." I was effectively robbed by this company, DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
I REPEAT, DO NOT PURCHASE... I ordered a book on 08. 17. 18 with an estimated delivery date of 09. 10. 18. I contacted company and stated the book was mailed the next day. Perhaps I should check with my neighbors to see if it was sent to them... REALLY DUDE? Needless to say the book NEVER arrived. After multiple emails - no resolve. I called many times and spoke with 3 different individuals and finally on 09. 27. 18 I received a refund back to my credit card. The persistence paid off but NEVER AGAIN!
I paid $15 to secure expedited shipping of an $8 paperback book. It took 16 das to arrive. Abebooks assured me that I got what I paid for. 16 days to ship a small book in an envelope from Florida to Maryland. I tried to return it, since I had to buy it from somewhere else at Day 14 so my son had it for class. They would refund my $8, only, plus I had to purchase my return shipping. I then asked only for refund of the "expedited" shipping fee. Again, they assured me that 16 days was expedited because of the busy textbook season. I cannot believe this horrible service exists in today's marketplace.
Paid $15 for USPS PRIORITY shipping.
Had to email TWICE to get tracking #. Was given the wrong tracking #.
More than THREE weeks later my order arrived via USPS MEDIA MAIL, NOT Priority MAIL which I had paid for.
E-mailed again asking for refund for shipping due to seller NOT shipping via Priority mail.
Seller responded as if they didn't understand what I was asking for. Said "you got your package on time".
They sent me the wrong book and wont refund it. They are a scam site! The book didnt come on time so dont trust their tracking information, there is not a contact phone number and they shuffle you around. I was told I would get a refund and not they are saying I won't and I need to contact the seller. I contacted the seller before I contacted abe books and they didn't want to deal with me and abe books is doing the same thing.
I order 2 books for my daughters classes 3 weeks ago and STILL have not received them. When I asked what the status was on delivery. I received a refund (less shipping... for real!) with no reply as to why. The second book showed it was shipped and gave a tracking number. Tried tracking it and it says no label has been processed. Asked company and now 7 days later they said issue has been resolved. I went to check status after and it says it was just shipped out... 3 weeks later. So frustrated and will NEVER do business with this company again.
I have used this site now 3 times thinking maybe it was just a flook the 1 an2 times that they dont ship book after paying for faster shipping and not responding and then wrong book again after waiting extra 2 weeks for the book on the third time how could they possibly mess up again. But they did. Book stated estimated delivery Sept 7th paid extra shippping for fast shipping well book never came. Contacted the seller numerous times, contacted ABE BOOKS and then no response but the order says shipped now. So ask for tracking since I paid for it and never any response from either. After numerous emails and no response I recieved an email mind you after it says its shipped saying I would be getting a refund? So obviously it was really never shipped. And this order was placed on Aug 29th and fast shipping a rival by Sept7. So if you are buying for college classes. Stay clear of this site and beware. You will have to contact several times for each nook you order. And may never get it.
After receiving several notices that they would not allow me to return
The book, I received an email from the book seller stating I could cut
The pages apart and then read them but to be sure to use a sharp knife. I
Did not think this was a very good idea. I then received another email
Stating they had reviewed the issues and decided (while they did not
Need to) they were going to allow me to return it. They paid for
Shipping. While it took some time it did get done. So for those people
That read my first review, I am glad to report they did step up to do
The right thing. I will consider ordering again. What I have
Leaned is this: 1) Be very care about reading the description of the
Book. If it says it's never been read and was published in 1908 (maybe
It didn't spend all it's time in a library) 2) When you decide to
Return the book be sure you select the right reason. Some reasons are
Tagged as no refund and you will be out, unless you are blessed like I
Was.
I had a book that had gotten lost in transit and asked for a refund from the site. They had me go and message back and forth with the sender themselves. Then the sender was not able to refund me because the site wouldn't approve it for some reason. Also not too responsive. Stay away.
I guess I'm one of the few 5 stars. I have ordered many books from AbeBooks, including a long lost out of print book that nobody else could help me with. I have never had a bad experience. I must always get the good vendors. I always look for the very good to excellent quality of book, when given the chance, and weigh it against the price, choosing the best price and shipping, and I have never once been disappointed. It's been a while since I ordered from them so for the first time ever, I checked out the reviews and was shocked to see so many unhappy customers. I had already completed a purchase of a book listed in good condition, and for another very hard to find book (found in England----Abe checks all over the world). After reading the reviews I tried to cancel my order the next day but was told by my credit card company I couldn't. I was really disgruntled but to my delight the first book came EXTREMELY well-packaged and in 1/2 the time stated. The second one came from over seas so it took longer, but was well-packaged. Neither had high shipping charges and both were in better condition than I expected. I will continue to order through AbeBooks and highly recommend them until I have a bad experience. I pay close attention to the satisfaction percentage rating for the individual vendors and shop accordingly, as I would expect others to do also.
They charge the double amount for shipping then the entire book costs and it takes ages to receive the books. I am disappointed and will not buy at Abebooks again.
Ordered a book thinking that I am ordering from the USA seller. Store was described as being in New York and shipping speed 3-5 business days.
Being naive I paid $15 for expedited shipping and even contacted seller to confirm that book will be delivered within 3 business days and advised him to cancel my order if I cannot receive it within 3 business days. Got response from Malaysia that shipping speed is 3-10 business days. Contacted AbeBooks to initiate dispute, but that was a joke. They are running a scheme, of they are honest that most books are shipped from oversees and are unauthorized prints, they wouldn't be able to sell it to customers in the USA.
Scam business, look elsewhere if you don't have money to waist
My son ordered 7 books from Abe books for his first year of college. The books were reasonably priced but, still he paid over 400.00 which for a kid with a part time job is a lot of money.
He ordered these books on August 2nd. He has been in school for almost 2 weeks... he has received 1 book! He is having a hard time trying to keep up with his classes without his textbooks! He is getting nowhere. There are no tracking numbers. A few said they would be here on the 4th that was yesterday ( when we originally ordered they said the latest they would arrive was aug 20th) something is definitely not right?
I don't even want to think about what he will have to do if he has to come up with more money to reorder these books somewhere else! This will ruin his freshman year! Someone will pay!
I will contact the better buisness bureau, and anyone else necessary!
Abe books if you want to check into this order... it is #*******
I am beyond frustrated!
I can imagine one day someone picked out the phrase 'Build me an army worthy of Mordor' and thought they would actually build a website worthy of Mordor. Because this is it.
Overpriced books, atrocious treatment of sellers, redundant software - it reeks of something from another realm.
I was very, very disappointed. The book I ordered from Abe Books arrived quickly, but the return address was from Better World Books. It was so tightly shrink wrapped that the hard covered book was bowed in the center and was a withdrawn library book which was not disclosed in the listing description. This book was in poor condition, not the "very good" condition listed.
Never use this site Do not base anything off of the seller's rating; it is based on how many books they have sold and not customer satisfaction. Read the entire item description or there is a high chance that you will get scammed.
Sent one book to test their buy back program. They claim the book has water damage and is not worth anything (it didn't). They now have a book that they can sell acquired for free. Not worth your time, go with Amazon or donate your books.
I ordered a text book, selected expedited shipping. 2 days later I got an email stating the shipping price would be doubled. I needed to "accept" this or cancel. In essence I would have paid more to get it at an even later date! I canceled and got it quicker and cheaper on Amazon!
Hello sitejabber webpage! Hope we all reviewers having a fantastico 2018! So this morning, I found out I was requested to pay $5 extra just to receive my book. I really needed this book for my Computer Architecture class, and I am furious knowing I will not be receiving a book from Abe. The book seller contains the name DC BookDepot. It is real unprofessional to charge me another CHARGE after the FACT I paid them! They promised 5-9 business days, and they changed it to 8 to some more business days. They claimed the book is too heavy, which is why they charged me an additional $5. RIDICULOUS LIKE ROB DYRDEK! I immediately cancelled, and thank GOD the ice manipulator I still have that same $25 in my bank account NOWOS! Please--I REPEAT--PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THESE SELLERS! REAL UNPROFESSIONALOS! SCAMMERS! THEY JUST WANT YOUR DINERO! Hope this review was helpful! May we have a blessed 2018!
Abebooks and textbookrush are the same company. I recently sent them a 50 pound box of books with box contents submitted correctly and shortly after they received my package they followed up to my box contents with what they received. Of the 40 books that I sent In the box, only 7/40 were marked as received. When I reached out to them to see how this could be, they said that they were not in the box. Did they just disappear? These people are not moral and will take from anyone they can. Theives.
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
