AARP No thanks!
November 11, 2021

I'm so glad I removed them from my mom's insurance. They like to boast about saving their customers money but what you save is a joke. It's already a joke living in California with everything overpriced, it's no surprise that AARP came out of California. In addition, these bozos with all their junk mail they send you tell you how and who to vote for.
Yep, AARP is definitely a product of California.

Discrimination
November 11, 2021

AARP like so many national organizations practices reverse discrimination. Check out their "Community" sections. They have communities for several minorities but, like a mind is a terrible thing to waste, seems anglos don't count or matter! There are great things about AARP but if I didn't absolutely need them for affordable Medicare programs I would no longer participate.

These people send weekly mail to my dead father. They upped their game by sending it to my address; he never lived at that address. When I called to request they remove him from their list, they said "it will take 6 to 9 months." When asked the reason for this, they said it has to do with how their process is scheduled to be sent out that far in advance. That sounds like some good organization, but isn't so nice when you are trying to remove a dead family member from the mailing list. If I had to guess, their motto is probably something like "throw large volumes of crap at the wall and something will stick." The reason I say this, is that they send things to my deceased father about driving, when he hadn't had a driver's license for 10 years leading up to his death.

A new member
October 27, 2021

I may increase my stars after a year of membership. For anyone who is deciding on what free gift to get, don't get the spider bag. The picture is very deceiving lol. The bag is so small, it made me laugh till I cried. Just a heads up. Lol

I look to AARP for the basics; info on health, insurance, financial trends, legislation in progress, ect. Dont look at it more than a few times a month.
When AARP veers off into politics and opinion I lose interest instantly and exit the app.
I dont care what bruce sringsteen or michele obama think about anything. Seriously, I dont.
If I wanted to read people magazine I'd buy one.
That whole celebrity worship is a disease itself.
So I just use it for it's useful purposes and ignore the rest.

Short and Honest: The Hartford advertised a FREE Duffel Bag with Quote; Never received; actually it was NEVER sent and after 3 months and 8 calls I keep getting the run around by licensed agents and customer service; was told I would hear from Marketing director. Never heard back so I am writing this to tell you don't waste your time on the phone with them. I would NEVER use them now that they "tricked" me into getting a quote. I told them the quote would stay near the trash until I get the FREE duffel bag!
I am going to call every day (maybe every hour) until I receive the bag since they sent me 5 flyers with the Free Gift ad! They wasted my time by staying home waiting for the bag to be delivered since I don't want it sitting on my porch to get stolen or to "advertise" when I'm not home! So, if I call them to check on the Duffel Bag at least that is one phone call they can't answer to suck someone else into believing they will get a free gift! I'm wondering if these are really licensed agents answering the phones because good customer service tells me where they are located; after all they have all MY personal information, right?
AARP should drop this company because it makes them look just as bad! I can post warnings for all in my community so it really does affect this company if they are really fraudulent! They offer 5 different phone numbers so does that mean they change the phone numbers so they don't get called back when you don't receive the bag? Question to Bonnie, Marvin, Amber, Dave, Allen (Alan?), Michelle, and James all who claim to be agents when I called: Where is my bag and what did you do to follow up on why I don't have it yet? I'm sure you know there are tracking methods for all deliveries now! You say the calls are recorded? Be careful what you tell prospective customers--you may be recorded as well! The golden rule still applies: Do unto others what you would have done to YOU!

The AARP discounts for auto insurance, hotel bookings, and car rentals are less than useless. Non-affiliated service providers beat AARP prices every single time I've gone for these services. If AARP offers something else that's worth the membership, then someone please enlighten me.

AARP is a scam
July 28, 2021

Thought I was paying health insurance. Came to find out they were Auto withdrawals every month. For a magazine. My banker pointed it out. After numerous calls to AARP. I stopped payments. They took me to court, put a ding on my credit. This is the best part. I never gave them permission to access my bank account.

Having been a member of AARP since turning 55, am now 72, I have consistently noticed a greater and greater relationship with United Health Care Insurance. The amount of money this company gives to AARP is certainly a large factor in that relationship. However, the founding principle of AARP is to serve it older membership in ways that benefit them not just AARP. What many seniors are not aware of is that Medicare supplements have to offer the same basic benefits. For example, plan E does not require copays, or in network providers. The only difference between various insurance companies for this policy is price. United HealthCare is among the most expensive. What AARP should be doing is letting its members know that they should check with an independent insurance agent to see what the best price vs benefits they can get for their supplemental.

The Hartford car insurance company is a rip off! Very high premiums, dishonest and unethical. Yet AARP promotes this company. I will not renew my AARP membership again.
I now do not trust AARP. I was paying double for car insurance compared to my friends with other companies!

If you're a member of AARP and you receive a offer for a free gift for car insurance through The Hartford insurance company, don't bother. They sent one to me and not[only were their prices 1,000 more they never sent my gift. (Big RIPOFF)!
When I called AARP for help, all I got was sorry it's out of our hands.
I told them to never send me promotions ever again.

Even after cancelling my membership I'm still getting mountains of mail trying to sell me another insurance policy. I joined for a year and got absolutely no benefits. This is a scam on seniors They spend your money on their politics and are now funding PBS shows instead of working to get discounts for seniors. My AAA card is more of a benefit and AAA is certainly more ethical in their promises. This company should be sued with a truth in advertising law because they are definitely not providing what they advertise. If I could give them zero stars I would

I really think when AARP first started their intentions were good to really advocate for the 50+ community, but it has evolved into a racket of deceit and lies just to rip off the elderly. I work as a CSR and was shocked at how they operated once I started the job. They mail out excessive renewal notices to its members to confuse them into sending in more money to renew when in most cases they don't need to at the time. They have it set up to create duplicate accts on members also when they send in their payments. Most of the times they are not even aware they are paying for 2 accts. Its just sickening! I try to catch and correct as many as possible when I see them but this thing is a big racket. They send out letters for donations that have members thinking they have to make a donation. PPL have called in complaining about these excessive renewal notifications and letters for donations. They stress the CSR to get memberships over really helping the member. They don't want you spend a little extra time on the phone and help someone who really needs it. Third party vendors are horrible also. All they want is your money by anyway they can get it!

Though I have an elderly family member who is a member of AARP, I refuse to join AARP until the organization severs all promotional and financial ties with Consumer Cellular. We were recently taken for a ride by the unscrupulous hoods at Consumer Cellular and it was not a pleasant or picturesque trip.

Still sitting here
April 12, 2021

We hit a huge hole on the turnpike just South of Atlantic Ave. Blew out 2 tires. Called AARP immediately after completing the police report at 11:20am. The told us they would come within 120 min. Then called and confirmed with all the wrong information- so frustrated. It's now 4:00pm. Ridiculous! And they are still not here. Totally unacceptable! We will be finding another service for sure. I do not recommend them AT ALL!

Junk mail Galore
April 8, 2021

I've been swamped with junk mail from AARP since joining in November of 2020. At least one piece of junk mail a week. Junk Emails were even worse until I unsubscribed from everything involved with AARP... my friends all complain to me about the same thing. I and two friends have canceled our memberships! Enough is enough.
