Bogus Free Offers with sign up
February 2, 2023

I was of age and signed up for AARP, haven't used it yet. Probably because I was perturbed they didn't send the free offer - cooler tote bag... so I contacted them and they promised to send it, NEVER did! Can't trust them. So If you are on the fence and the gift was weighing to try it... don't let that persuade you. They send a lot generic information you can find online, as well as tons of advertisements for senior stuff and meds.

I first had the auto insurance after a couple of years they increased it for NO apparent reason...then there was my Silver Sneakers cancellation after increasing my monthly insurance,by the way I had NOT had a car accident, however I did use the Silver sneakers regularly. I would NOT recommend AARP for anyone!

Huge Marketing Operation
January 18, 2023

It has been our experience that AARP does not help seniors. In fact, most of the services and commodities they push actually drives costs up since AARP has to get their piece of the pie. The biggest joke is the AARP Advantage Plans. They don't cover many of the things straight up Medicare would even though they are required to do so and they won't cover many drugs. They say they have a "Doctor" who reviews claims and appeals but I doubt it. When asked for the name of the Dr and his/her credentials they ignore the request. In my case, this so called "doctor" went against the judgement of thress Board Certified Specialists, two GI and one Internal Medicine Dr, and that's without even seeing the patient. I would say that is pretty dubious overall. I guess we'll learn who this "DR" is during discovery.

Just called them in response to a letter of free offer if I renew. Wife renews us for the last 25 years yet we never get the free items offered in renewal letters. Why send the letters? Lady said about five years ago got some partition folding box which fell apart the first year. That was my free gift. Wife disappointed with the offer.

Trying to get my mothers AARP statement for the year 2022. I sent them legal POA for my mother; the next rep sd it was received and we provided her an e mail address to send it to. I asked the rep to repeat it to me to make sure it was correct. She did and it was correct; then advised me that it would take 24 to 48 hrs to send it? NOTE: Reps are either Indian or philipinos and are very hard to understand. Today we called back asking where was the statement? We had not received it. Had to reverify all info, sd they did not have my POA; and I at that point asked for AN AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVE: they transferred me to an American rep; she says that now I need to fill out a form that they will MAIL TO MY ADDRESS and after I fill it out to MAIL IT BACK; no faxing, no e mail.
Worst customer service ever. Reps were in a call center that had people speaking in heavy accents in the background and we couldn't hear our rep on top of his or her heavy Indian accent. Sad that an AMERICAN COMPANY sets up crappy call centers to attempt to save a penny.
Giving American jobs away.
Sad. Hope someone important reads this and makes some changes.
AARP, SHAME ON YOU!

It is a left wing democratic organization! Now they're having children join their organization, which is ludicrous because it's for 65 and over! Anything to make a buck!

Aside from having continuous problems with their site, your snail mail box is inundated with unwanted pleas for purchase. Like the magazine though and some games(when working). Don't bother playing the games for points it'll cost you. This site is lol.

Auto Insurance= FUBAR
November 4, 2022

A10/13 email to the AARP CEO has not solved my Fouled Up Beyond All Reason experiences with their endorsed The Hartford. The email response from AARP Member Relations said "... we expect our providers to offer an exceptional level of customer service..." This Not My Experience before or after I contacted AARP!

AARP just recently published an article about. Medicare part D drug plan that included information about the advantage plan. This was a perfect opertunity to warn seniors about the bad advice that many TV commercials are giving them about the Advantage Plan! It didn't happen. It even suggested that they look into this. Another disappointment from AARP!

I have contacted them numerous times because they started sending mail to my deceased husband. Now, Austin in Customer Service says it takes 12 weeks to stop the mail addressed to my husband. Today is week 11 said Austin. How ridiculous. I will not rejoin this organization.

A waste of money!
October 4, 2022

AARP will start to send you monthly renewal notices via the USPS six months before one's renewal date, even after one asks them to stop. A tremendous waste of paper and postage. I did not renew my membership last year and I don't really think they do anything to say one money. AAA is much better!

Racist/Sexist Employees
September 5, 2022

I was an Area Governor with Toastmasters a couple years ago, and I had a bad experience with the AARP Toastmasters Club. We had a speech contest at Holy Cross Hospital, and I was asked to judge the contest. I cleared my schedule to help out at the contest like I always did for years. When I arrived, the AARP members would not let me serve as a judge. There are no restrictions on the number of judges, so there was no real reason to not let me participate. I sensed a bad vibe from the AARP members, who were all black females. I asserted myself and asked why I could not participate, and I was put down by the black women. "Oh My God," was their response when I said I wanted to participate in the contest because I made sacrifices to attend the contest. I did not cause a scene, and I left the contest to be with my family. I quit Toastmasters a short while later. This occurred in the Washington DC area where AARP is headquartered. If you support racism and sexism. AARP is for you. If you believe in equality and justice, don't waste your money on this organization.

Misleading benefits and poor customer service
September 1, 2022

AARP vision benefits page lists $55 vision exam with Target Optical as one of their benefits. I signed up with AARP to get that benefit and made an appointment with Target, but when I arrived for my appointment, the doctor said he knew nothing about the benefit with AARP and the exam will cost between $145-$185. So I had to leave. I wasted two entire afternoons trying to find the best eye exam price and narrowed it down to the AARP -Target benefit only to discover that it doesn't exist. When I called AARP to ask them about it, the agent was also not aware of the benefit, but did find it very clearly laid out on their website. I told her how much time I lost for the false benefit and said good customer service offers more than an apology - they offer some sort of compensation, however small, to not lose that customer and all the people that customer will talk to. Her supervisor apparently told her to tell me that they don't offer any compensation.

The AARP magazine has not been a great benefit to the ageing community in my opinion in the past. I had not purchased my subscription sooner because of pages full of medical treatment and vitamins ads. Today I received my August/September edition and I had valuable information to read. Thank Your AARP keep up the Good Work.

They gave me 2 % back on dental charges in Feb,. Thursday I charged almost 3000 on this card. It did not reflect 2 percent cash back as promised. I was on hold with Rep whose name I wont mention because Im embarressed for her ( by the way she clueless and not knowledgeable) for almost an hour. They basically had no answer for being liars. It is horrigle for a company syuch as this one to lie about their rewards program and then have ignorant people work for them; for these to not be in a position to help a customer. I will get a refund from my Dr and use my favorite Card capital one, or even my WELLS fargo. THis card is cut
