I have started using 7cups since October 2015, I mostly used my listener account just to chat to people and it really decreased my loneliness over those years. I have also used my member account as well if I ever needed to talk to someone. However after 7 years of using 7cups, I have officially decided to step away from it because I feel that the amount of pressure from listening to peoples issues strained my mental health even more. I'm not saying that I haven't talked to decent people but when you hear people in crisis and you can't even help them because 7cups doesn't have the resources, you feel often times helpless of yourself as a listener. I feel that 7cups doesn't give a toss about listeners mental health or even try to make the service legitimate for everyone to feel they are in a actual safe space. When you're a member, you get people who shouldn't be listeners in the first place. All you have to do is complete a easy childrens playbook training with involving two parts and boom you're suddenly a listener! I'm baffled that this type of process is not even police vetted to ensure that listeners on the site are real and can actually help people who go through tough times. There's hardly any security on the site and empathy from listeners that I have mostly spoke to!
My advice for anyone going through a hard time, don't use 7cups at all. It's not the best "self help" site out there. Instead go to a mental health professional, use a mental health text message service or chat to a helpline.
I have been both a member and a listener for almost two years and 7 Cups has serious quality issues. If you are lucky you find the sweetest and kindest listener as a member, but unfortunately many listeners have low quality and are not well enough educated. Becoming a listener is way too easy. Only thing you have to have is an e-mail address and then do a simple test and then you are set to go.
As a listener you have the opportunity to grow and help out with many things. However there is a clique of listeners that stick together and watch each other's back. If you by any chance report one of them it will come back to you. The admin team probably do their best, but they have way too much on their plate and sit in different parts of the world which complicates things. Another thing I've noticed is the fact it's very American in how it's constructed with titles and hierarchies and it's tricky to figure everything. Also the website is almost impossible to manage when it comes to finding things again. And there are many old outdated posts. The rules are constantly changed which is very confusing for many members and listeners. Finally, 7 Cups is highly addictive, so if you want to become a listener on the site, make sure to set boundaries on how many and how much time you want to spend there and stick to it.
Undoubtedly what all communities lack. A place where we can listen and help each other worldwide, without prejudice, just with understanding and compassion. Very proud to be part of this community since 2012.

One of my friends directed me to this website and it was helpful. I found the website easy to navigate and pretty self explainable. I will recommend this service to my friends as well because sometimes you just need someone to talk to.
I've been using 7cups for a while and I've been a listener on 7cups for 3 months now. It has been a great help especially for mental health and even with listener support. It has helped me with my communication skills and made me more empathetic
7 cups has been a great experience for me. It was easy to use the service and i was talking with someone way faster than i anticipated. I like that i can continue to talk to the same person if i choose to. I would tell someone else to try 7 cups if they need someone to talk to like i was.
I came to this website to help, listen and support. And i am not alone. There are many many maaaaany more people just like me, which creates a safe space for struggles, active listening and people in need
I found this site when I was in need of help, and it did just that. And now I am a listener myself, and I do my part to help others.
As a listener, i feel so happy that i am helping others. This is a safe place for people to come and talk. And this is a great place to talk and nobody knows you, your past, or anything you don't want to share. There are so many great listeners who are so very kind and helpful.
So amazing, completely anonymous and very helpful. This has helped me so much. I really recommend. I know so many people it has helped, I became a listener, and they have you take a short course to be able to be a listener. A very thorough website and user friendly.
As a listener, I really like being able to help others... and I have learned a lot about myself in the process. Definitely a great site and a win/win.
The free, volunteer listeners on this website gave me space and time to just vent and release difficult emotions. I'm really grateful for their volunteer time.
7 Cups is a place for people who want to interact with people anonymously and offers a platform to discuss as much or as little as the individual feel comfortable too. You have nothing to lose by signing up
I have become a listener only yesterday and I have already achieved helping people in the best way possible, them leaving such kind reviews and leaving with a more positive outlook on their situation ensures me I have been doing a good job.
Very easy to navigate and so inspiring to me.
Thank you for this platform.
7 cups is an overall app for your mental health and emotional health, it provides you with an opportunity to talk with professional counselor...
As someone who went to a few therapists and didn't feel like I was heard, it's good to have an option like 7cups where I can feel more heard by a range of different people. However, I would definitely give this a 5 stars if therapy on 7cups was cheaper and perhaps they encourage more people with genuine experience with working on people's mental health as listeners rather than expecting people with little experience to grow as they do it.
There's some stuff that's meh about this site but for years I have used this as a tool just so I have a place to talk. It's not legit counseling no one here is trained for everything or knows what to say but heck if it's not better than the crisis hotline. If you're looking for 100% legit therapy don't go here I always recommend an actual brick and mortar place for that if that's an option but if you need a place where you can just talk and have someone listen instead of keeping it all inside or talking to yourself then this is the place to go.
I have talked to some great people on this app. It is so nice to be able to say exactly how I feel and no one judges me. Ive had one person that was a little judgy but not too much. Most people were amazing.
Pretty decent, helpful to log onto when in a panic attack. Most are nice but could use better training for listeners. Multiple times ive had people try to get me to do s*xual things with them. Would also like an option to delete forum posts and replies.
Answer: It's a legit company! Definitely not a scam :) In my experience, I've been on as both a listener and member, it's not a scam. We're trained & take courses (as listeners) to best support members. Each listener is different, as is each member, so there may be bad experiences with one listener or vice versa. We have therapists we can ask for advice or refer people to as well.
Answer: I would suggest that any person seeking true authentic assistance NOT visit this site. It is unsafe, damaging and narcissistic and does NOT offer true help or support in any way
Answer: I would imagine that there are many other sites that are BETTER than 7cups
Answer: To send one-on-one messages, you should be able to just click on the text box and type in it. I find it's harder to use on mobile browser so if you're doing that, maybe try switching to desktop. Otherwise, I would just wait a minute or reload the page, it lags sometimes
Answer: You sure can! This is actually a very helpful feature on 7cups
