The overall reputation of the company reflects significant dissatisfaction among customers, particularly regarding its customer service and reliability. Many users report frustrating experiences with delayed refunds, poor communication, and unhelpful support staff. Complaints about properties not matching descriptions or being in unacceptable conditions are prevalent, leading to a loss of trust. While a few customers express occasional satisfaction with specific transactions, the overwhelming sentiment leans towards a lack of accountability and professionalism. This has resulted in a growing number of users opting for alternative platforms, indicating a critical need for improvement in service quality and responsiveness.

I have rented my property via VRBO this summer. The guests have come and gone, and three weeks later I still have not received my money
Can only get a useless call center on the line, which I have tried 3 times, keep you hanging on with the same "spiel" for at least 30 min. ( earning money) in poor English and you come away not one bit wiser.
Has anybody been in the same predicament?
Have looked up all their very bad reviews on different sites and beg8n to wonder if they are big crooks?
VRBO is horrible. We need to put them out of business. Showed up in Vegas for a conference the room at the MGM Signatures was a disaster. The bed was up against the wall, trash everywhere, room obviously not cleaned. When you book with a third party the hotel can do nothing for you. Maid service is contracted with a private company. It took me 1hr to figure out who the company was when i finally contacted them she made the comment " I was wondering when I was going to hear from you". Long story short the room had bed bugs and had been treated hence the bed up against the wall. The room wasn't cleaned because it needed a second treatment and so maids were not allowed in and the room was not going to be available to me. Spent the next 2 hrs on the phone the phone with VRBO because I now had no room and the hotel was sold out. We got disconnected and they never called me back. The wait time to talk to someone was over 1hr hold time. I gave up and ended up finding another room via VRBO but it cost me an additional $600 out of pocket. I finally talked to someone at VRBO a month later and they offered me $80 compensation. What a joke this company needs to be put out of business! I will never use them again!
I've been using VRBO (Homeaway) for years. It's always been good until I've had an issue. The property (3 bedrooms) and the listing (4 bedrooms) didn't match. The property was filthy, AC didn't work (Vegas in August), and the sewer came up from the baths every time we flushed the toilet.
The host was nasty and hostile. We ended up booking a place on Airbnb that cost the same but was perfect for my family and me.
VRBO support was terrible and wouldn't transfer me to another property, even though I took pictures and showed them that it's a three-bedroom house on the title. They claimed that the tiny closet was the 4th bedroom. They also said that I should contact the owner about the other issues. I told them I was not going to spend our three days vacation inspecting his house and accommodate contractors to work during our stay. What a joke of a company.
I'm done with VRBO.
In July of 2022 my son and I booked a rental property through VRBO only to be stranded when the property owner never responded with property information and access. I contacted VRBO's customer service who were rude and unhelpful. Hours later we were booked into a hotel and then another property. I was promised that the overage of these additional places would be covered. Since then it has been a struggle to get ahold of anyone that is able to help. I have been lied to and hung up on by the VRBO customer service representatives. This is NOT a company you should trust for a vacation rental.
I rented out two bedrooms and a bathroom as I run an Airbnb in my house. This gentleman had two dogs who I fell in love with aside from the one that barked nonstop but he was still adorable. He needed a place for about a month and I was willing to accommodate that. The first couple weeks went great as I showed him around And we took turns cooking and he really helped out. One day I got an email at work, keep in mind I work as a nurse for the federal government, accusing me of stealing $10,000 from him that he had in cash in his room. Not only was I never in his room but I was never at the house when he wasn't there. I would never do something like that. He got the police involved and I was cooperative and offered up anything they needed after all I had nothing to hide. After asking him to leave because I was worried it would affect my job he threw cigarettes on the floor in my sunroom, ashed in my hammock and chair, as well as spit all over the sunroom. He left the place a mess and refused to pay an additional cleaning fee. I spoke with Vrbo several times who basically said they could do nothing and it was up to him whether or not he wanted to pay. I am left cleaning up a mess after he destroyed my favorite room and they did nothing to help out. I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor and they said there was not one at this time. Protect yourself and your property and please use a different site.
VRBO does not fight on behalf of its owners. I had a tenant book, pay in full, and then no-show. They never cancelled their reservation and then filed a chargeback with their credit card company. I won the first chargeback, as this is a simple case. They then filed a second chargeback, VRBO automatically took the money out of our account while the case was "under review", and has held that money for 8 months. After several phone calls and emails I was just informed I lost the case. VRBO offers no protection to owners against fraudulent claims. What benefit is it to list on VRBO, pay annual fees and high service charges, and have no protection?
Please never book on this site. You will not get any support just in case you have a problem with your booking. I and my husband tested positive for covid -19 a week before our booking and called them to inform our situation to ask for help to modify our booking to property owner. Unfortunately, the owner does not want to modify it either.
This has to be illegal! They told me they had an issue with the system and that I had to prove my cancellation, so I did. They sent me a email stating I would see it... Nope months later and many calls more promises and nothing. This is a horrible business! Never again and yea my calls are going to keep coming.
What kind of screwed up world are we living in where two women are kissing on TV for kids to see as an advertisement of a good time on a vacation!?
Couldn't gain access to our rental. Called owner and number went straight to voicemail that wasn't set up. I called their customer service, was on hold for 30 minutes and got dropped. Called again on hold for another 40 minutes before someone answered. She told me that because I'm a stranded traveler they would refund me the cost of a hotel for up to 2 days because they have a stranded traveler "guarantee". This was confirmed in an email also.
This was all bull. CSR blatantly lied to me and VRBO takes no responsibility. Will never use them again.
The renters can cancel on you at any time without recourse. The site does not show how many times they have done this before and you can't leave a review. Just screwed over
VRBO took over a Homeaway service which was a wonderful group. I never had any problems with them. In contrast, VRBO has become worse since they linked to Expedia. It is full of faults: the website is misleading, the service is very poor and they never solve any of your problems when you call. I had the same experiences as the tenant and owner. You can hardly understand the people you talk to, then they put you on hold for 10-15 minutes and after 30-40 min finally tell you that your case has been transferred to another customer service which will get back to you "depending on your priority". Well, I called to veryfy something, an agent by mistake duplicated my property and... it has been over 2 months, multiple phone calls and the property is still in limbo, no one taking responsibility to activate it again. Totally unacceptable. As soon as my last tenant leaves, I am terminating VRBO. There are many local rental service providers including AirBnB that are much more responsible for the owner and tenants.
Apparently Vrbo allows people to use random credit cards from other people without asking for any kind of security code or pin number. When asked to be reimbursed the lady speaking broken English on the phone had no answer to anything & kept asking for my reservation number. I DIDN'T make a reservation! Scary company will never see another dollar of my money
Reserved and paid for a condo in Stowe VT for 2 weeks. Advertised as having pool. Showed up, pool is empty, dry, trash filled, condo complex looks like something from a dystopian movie. Called the local agent, got a refund, but VRBO has ignored my request for a refund of THEIR FEES. I will never use VRBO again, will warn everyone to stay away.
Rented a townhome in north Myrtle Beach for a special event. The listing stated it was a 3 bedroom townhome, and a shared pool. Because there was no other information in regards to the rental, I was a bit confused on what made the pool shared.
Upon arriving at the rental, a pulled up to find 7 cars, and a truck with a trailer hitch as well as a group of guys. I had to ask them to move a car since I had been renting and needed a spot as well as inform them that we had another car coming. I immediately contacted the host and told her. She said she'd text them and let them know they were only allowed 2 cars. I told her I was very unhappy that I wasn't informed that this was a 2 unit rental and a group of guys would be staying next door. She then told me that she'd be driving around to ensure there would be no "riff raff" and I'd have nothing to worry about. Told me I can call or text her no matter the time. Well the cars were never moved and the guys were loud in addition to there cars. Every time I contacted her, she contacted them and informed them which led to the ringing of my door and a confrontation outside
They told me she was telling them I was complaining, at one point one of them started to curse, this could've gone in the wrong direction
She, Amanda, never once came to address the situation.
I had also asked for a coffee pot which had been listed on the amenities. When I told her there wasn't one here she told me quite a few times she would bring one but never did
The lack of responsibility of her rentals was disturbing to me all the texting meant nothing if she didn't make an appearance to address and fix the issue
I would not recommend you renting. It's all about the money and not the experience for her rentals.
She should be ashamed
Pay the extra and stay at a hotel at least you know that they will take care of things
I spent weeks picking the property for an 8 day trip to Vegas.
Received 3 email confirmations from VRBO. When we went to check in Grandview had NO record of our reservation. (vrbos process not Grandview) Many phone calls to owner, NO response NO answer. Called Vrbo was on hold for an hour. Pulled my Laptop out Got on Chat with agent while staying on hold. Chat hold was 20 Min. Agent on chat gave me Phone numbers to call to escalate the case. One number was Out of Service, the other put me back into the Que. 4 Hours later when all was said and done. VRBO Refunded my Inital Payment. VRBO said they would give me 3 days Refundable of $196 ea IF I booked a new room through Expedia. (SO another $600 out of pocket last minute) Have You ever Booked a Last minute Trip on the Strip? Then find Hotels the other 5 days of the trip. THIS IS NOT! The way Vacation should go, I spent alot of time PRE-Planning To be left standing on a Curb in 110 degree Vegas. $ wise Paid a Little more (if i get reimbursed) But the Frustration Of Having to deal with this was WRONG! HA-LLY2Z9
Doesn't deserve any stars. We booked a villa in Orlando about 18 months ago. My family of 6 arrived in America and planted a few days at Pete Beach before heading to the Villa. With just 48 hours to go, Vrbo cancelled the villa. Just sent an email and said'cancelled your refund could take up to 15 days '... Tried to ring but kept getting cut off. They sent a list of properties we could book (one of them in England!) none of them being a villa. They didn't want to know. Absolutely no help at all. So here we are in America with no place to stay and no access to our money either.
Why Experia are having anything to do with this company is beyond me.
Book with confidence they say. Nope, don't trust them.
Customer service is atrocious. Once they get your money it's game over for you. They are ripping everyone off, including the host. This company is run by a slumlord Jeff Hurst.
We rented an apartment in edinburgh for 4 nights. Arrived on the spot it was a retirement home and there was no apartment to rent there and they told me that I was not the first to be scammed. I wrote to the host, he canceled the rental saying the apartment was no longer available and I got the refund from VRBO. However, the host did not reimburse me for the $400 security deposit. There is the fraud. Scammers use this platform to scam people with security deposits on apartments that don't exist. VRBO does not even verify the credibility of hosts so contrary to what they say it is not a safe platform.
This site does not accurately represent the properties that are listed. When you try to write a review, it doesn't let you write one. The site is a joke.
When you want to talk with some one you have to wait a half hour. The chats are also 30 mins.
Don't waste your time with this site.
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
