They have really upped their game
October 19, 2017
Updated review

I previously wrote a review complaining about Vinesse customer service. I had called and spoke to an agent and requested no more cases sent, however another case arrived and I was billed.
A customer service agent reached out to me and offered assistance to review and resolve the case. They made arrangements to have the case returned and issued me a refund. And this was over a fair amount of time because I do not often get the time off during working hours to deal with this stuff. They were very accommodating.
Vinesse is certainly not a scam. The wines that I tried from them were quite good, i had maybe one that I thought was really not up to scratch, but quite enjoyed the others. I would have given them 4/5 stars initially if they had only given such great customer service from the beginning.
If you are looking for a wine club, Vinesse is certainly an option, and I would recommend them. If for any reason you do not receive the customer service you expect, reach out to them, they appear quite willing to go the distance to make you happy.

Previous review

I wish I had seen all the reviews on here before trying their promo offer. I received my wines, the California ones were actually quite good, the French and Italian not so much. However I had the same issue with the wines "attempted delivered" for 3 days when there was no note or notification, they were sent back to vinesse who resent it which was good on their part. However I spoke to a customer service agent after I received my wines and said that with all the delivery hassle I had no further interest in receiving any more wine. He said that he would cancel and make sure I didn't receive further shipments. I just got charged again, and after calling customer service they tell me that there is no note on the account that I ever spoke with anyone and my account was not cancelled. So now the shipment cannot be cancelled(so they claim) and I am certain that when I try to return it they will stick me with hefty "restocking" and shipment fees. This should never have happened as I called their agent and explicitly said I no longer wanted any further shipments. If they simply said no problem we will cancel shipment and refund payment, then I wouldn't be here taking the time to write a negative review.

Wish I never signed up, SCAM... STAY AWAY!
September 25, 2017

My introductory case was sent out on 8/31. First of all it took about two weeks (maybe longer) to receive the wine, it came and I was giving as a gift as I do not drink. What an embarrassment to hear from my in laws that they were barely palatable. But I figured, you get what you pay for and the introductory price was cheap. I researched the wine only to find that they are nonexistent anywhere other than vinesse, which is sketchy. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a pending charge of $144.06 on my credit card. I checked the online account, which said my next shipment was scheduled for 10/16/17 and I would receive an email notification from Vinesse 7 days prior to shipping. I was counting on that email to be my reminder to cancel as I was not going to continue as a member for that price considering the poor quality of the wine. I called to cancel the membership and within a few days the pending charge disappeared. On 9/25 I now have a finalized charge for $144.06 on my credit account. I check the online Vinesse account to see that I am still active. The wine has not yet shipped so I am hopeful. I canceled online at that point and called again to be told that this is the first time they have record of me calling and that while the wine has not shipped to me it has left the warehouse and cannot be canceled. They offered me either 40% off (which is still $100) or to refuse shipment and be refunded minus the shipping and 15% restocking fee, which would cost about $50. I said restocking fee for what, I am not even opening the box? So nothing could cost me $50 or I keep 6 bottles of crappy wine for $100. All because of false information... I was led to believe my next shipment was not until 10/16, then I was led to believe I would receive a reminder 7 days prior which would be my cue to cancel, I was under the impression I canceled via telephone. I appreciate the offers to return or keep at a discounted rate, but to be honest I don't have an extra $50 to pay for nothing or an extra $100 for wine that I cannot drink and am too embarrassed to give out as gifts. At this rate I have reached out to my credit card company, the Better Business Bureau and the New York Attorney General office in order to see what my rights are against these unethical practices. At this point as a consumer, I advise you to stay away. If it sounds to good to be true... it is!

Hello,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the wines you received hit short of the mark. Our goal as a wine provider is to ensure that our members are able to thoroughly enjoy any wines that we send out, whether that be accompanying a dinner meal or enjoying a glass or two at a social gathering. We do put a great deal of care and consideration into the selection process when choosing wines, but we realize wine is a completely subjective experience, and we want each and every one of our members to be absolutely content with every bottle. For that reason, we offer a satisfaction guarantee and love when our members make use of it to ensure they're enjoying their selections! Our members' satisfaction with the quality and value of our wine selections is our highest priority. All our wines pass a rigorous and competitive review by our highly experienced tasting panel. We source wines in many different ways, including directly from wineries in the US and abroad, through distributors and through trusted wholesalers and importers. Sometimes, we act as a "negociant" and work directly with foreign and domestic wineries to produce custom wines for our customers but that cannot be labeled with existing brand names. These negociant wines must be labeled with unique new and distinct names to protect existing brands and sources. Sometimes, our best values for our customers are found through negociant arrangements as existing high quality wines are sold for far less than their full price to us and the savings are passed to our members. In regards to the cancellation that you have made, we would be happy to look into this for you. All of our phone calls are recorded and we can double check on this issue as we would like to get this resolved for you. Would you please message us your member number (or phone number on file) so that we can access your membership and follow up on this?

STAY AWAY
September 20, 2017

I know other people have posted about this, but the United MileagePlus deal is a total scam! I just got off the phone with a unapologetic customer service agent, who pointed me to a small link at the bottom of the initial offer page (nowhere on the original United email) that has questionable language about having to be an active member for 21 days after the shipment to receive the miles. Here's the rub, if you remain an active member for 21 days after your first or second shipment, you'll just get another one (i. E. your second or third) and pay for it. SO, you really must pay for three boxes to get the entire amount of award miles. And, after the first shipment, the boxes almost triple in price, so I was really stomaching a high cost of the second box just to get additional miles in the deal. The terms and conditions (after the fishy 21 days of active membership line, that could apply to being an active MileagePlus member) do state: "Member will receive 2,500 bonus award miles with their first wine club shipment, 4,000 bonus award miles with their second wine club shipment," which turned out to be a blatant lie.

To add to the punch, both shipments of wine we received were extremely questionable in quality. The first box had two bottles that were palatable, but the second box was filled with almost undrinkable, low quality wine.

I was a member of Winc for almost a year and decided to try Vinesse to get the 6500 miles (but now looks like I won't be getting thanks to a total misrepresentation in the fine print), and regret the fact that I did. Stay away! You're in much better hands in the capable hands of ANY other wine club. I'm back with Winc and extremely happy with their wine quality and customer service.

Hello,

We would like to apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the promotion you enrolled into with us. It is not our intentions to cause any of our members any sort of inconvenience. The terms and conditions through United’s page is a blanket statement that covers the various vendors they do business with and doesn’t contain many specificities. This is due to the various types of goods and services they offer through the use of the air miles their members have acquired. Also, you are actually able to control your shipment dates at any time. We offer delays on your shipments for up to 6 months at a time. Many members, when they first enrolled, prefer to hold off on the 2nd shipment to decide if it is something that they want to move forward with. We encourage taking as much time as you need to be able to try the wines at your leisure and get a taste of the wines offered in your shipment. We would like to apologize for any wines you have received that weren't praiseworthy to your preference of wines. Our goal as a wine provider is to ensure that our members are able to thoroughly and completely enjoy any wines that we send out, whether that be accompanying a dinner meal or enjoying a glass or two at a social gathering. We do put a great deal of care and consideration into the selection process when choosing wines, but we realize wine is a completely subjective experience, and we want each and every one of our members to be absolutely content with every bottle. For that reason, we offer a satisfaction guarantee and love when our members make use of it to ensure they're enjoying their selections.

Scam!
September 15, 2017

I signed up for the Vinesse wine club thru United Airlines as a manner of getting some wine and some miles. The wines are JUST OK, I believe for my taste, they were a bit overpriced as I have bought comparable or better wines and for that matter imports for less than the domestic reds I got. THEN... WOW... I went to cancel and they tell me that in order to get all of my promotional miles I need to cancel by a certain date which I did and then about 2 weeks later I receive the shipment? I reject it and I get an email about a week later stating that I was getting a refund minus a 15% restocking fee AND the shipping cost - FOR SOMETHING I HAD ALREADY CANCELLED! Yeah, that was about $55 down the drain. Called customer service and I said, ok, then charge me the shipping but not the restocking fee. "No sir, we will not do that, is there anything else we can help you with?" Worst customer service ever and again wine is really not that great!

Oh and the messages that Vinesse adds to these reviews is even MORE of a clap in the face. Really, call us for us to offer you another scam? To tell you that we are right and you are wrong so we are not refunding your money as promised? To essentially give others reading these reviews a sense that Vinesse CARES?
Please, save the reply - That shows more respect and courtesy!

Questionable business practices
August 26, 2017

I signed up through United Mileage Plus for the Vinesse Wine Club and received two orders. I found the wines were overpriced compared to the quality, and was discouraged to find that none of the wines are available in the open market, signalling to me that these are relabels of some other brand. I cancelled my membership. Before I cancelled my membership, I was curious to see what the sparkling wine program offered. However the only way to see the total price on the website is to 'join the club'. So, I click the button to join and see the cost with taxes and shipping and realize that it's ridiculously overpriced. So I immediately cancelled my membership. Moments later I receive a cancellation confirmation email. Then, three weeks later a half case of overpriced sparkling wine lands at my door. I notified them of the mistake, I'm sent an email stating that I can 1) return the wine at my own expense 2) will be charged a 15% restocking fee, and 3) will be issued a credit, not a refund.

Beware that their 'guarantee' is a lie. They state "No Strings, No Commitments. We want you to enjoy your experience. Because we know that when you have a great experience, you'll let your friends and family in on the secret.
Whether you're a new enthusiast or an experienced wine lover, we know you'll appreciate our value and convenience. We like simple."

The secret is this company is a scam, leveraging the good brand of American Airlines, Hilton, and United Airlines to dupe customers.

Hello Brent,

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to apologize for your experience as we aim to ensure all of our members have a unique and personable one. Our wine directors work very hard to search the world of wine to ensure that we are able to deliver you the good life in exotic and delectable wines! Using our 20+ years in the industry, we try and mix in these newly discovered wines with the varietals from the many different wineries we have built relationships with. Many of these wineries do not sell to the public, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer them to our members, as you wouldn't have a chance to try them otherwise. We understand that with such a wide variety in taste preferences from person to person, some of our members will be over the moon about a specific varietal while that same varietal might not have others writing home about it. We do want to ensure that ALL of our members receive wines that they absolutely fall in love with! To help with this goal, we have a satisfaction guarantee for every bottle that we send out. What this means is that we will replace any wine you aren't satisfied with within a 45 day period, at no cost, in your next wine club shipment. If you don't have an upcoming wine club shipment, you can still take part in receiving replacements, we just ask that you cover the shipping cost for the replacement bottles. If you would like to take part in this, or acquire more information, our customer support representatives would be happy to take care of this for you. We can be reached at 1-800-823-5527 Monday - Friday 6:00am-5:00pm. If for any reason you are unable to call to inquire about replacements, you can shoot us an email at [email protected] and we will get back to you within 3 business days. In reviewing your membership with us, we show that you had enrolled into the Sparkling Wine Club via the Member Service Center on 8/04 and cancelled it the same day. We do try to inform our members prior to enrolling with us that shipments are processed immediately after the enrollment process is completed. We mention issuing a credit to your account due to the various ways of paying for the wines we offer. When we say credit, it is the same thing as a refund and your account will reflect that when we issue said credit. We would like to apologize for any confusion in this matter and will be reaching out to you to find a working resolution for you.

Just Ok
August 10, 2017

I joined as part of a Hilton Honors promotion. I received my introductory shipment, and cancelled soon thereafter. First, you must be home to sign for the shipment, which is very inconvenient. Second, the cost of shipping makes this membership not cost-effective. I have tried four of the six wines that were sent. One variety had so much sediment that it was not drinkable. Two were mediocre, and one was decent. One of their selling points is that they will replace any wine you do not like. I called in order to have the wine with the sediment replaced. The customer service rep said that since I had cancelled my membership, I would need to pay $18 shipping to have the bottle replaced! I really cannot recommend this club. Their customer service is truly sub-par and their shipping costs are very high.

Hello Veronica,

Thank you for your feedback. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience you have had in regards to deliveries. Due to the shipments containing alcohol, it is against the law for a courier to deliver the shipment without obtaining a signature from someone 21 years or older. For circumstances such as this, we generally recommend changing the shipping address to your workplace or a drop off facility (UPS, FedEx, etc) to ensure a delivery can be made. In regards to our satisfaction guarantee, we understand that with such a wide variety in taste preferences from person to person, some of our members will be over the moon about a specific varietal while that same varietal might not have others writing home about it. The bottle that contained sediment will be replaced, at no cost to you, if you would like. Please send us a message so that we can acquire your account information to process this. We apologize for any inconveniences due to this. We do thank you for providing us with this valuable feedback!

Disgusting customer service.
August 9, 2017

I signed up for 6 wines and a cool bottle opener. Did not arrive timely.
1st time I called, a woman said delivery was attempted 3 days in a row. If so, no note was left and the third day they claimed delivery was attempted I was doing yard work the entire day. I saw no delivery van of any type that day. I gave myself a couple weeks to cool off from being so blatantly lied to before calling again.
2nd time I called. The same young woman answered, she asserted that I had stopped by a warehouse and had taken delivery personally. This lie was stunning. This call was made the day before my wife unexpectedly died.
3d time I called was awhile after my wife's death; the same young woman found my package "in the system" and guaranteed delivery which I promptly received. I guess the grief in my voice was palpable enough that she didn't go through her litany of excuses and sent me what I had paid for a few months before.
She even offered me a full refund (no restocking fee!, they had suckered me before with a "restocking" fee after charging my credit card without notification), but my wife had wanted that bottle opener, so I took delivery.
If they had delivered when promised, my wife (who was the mechanic in the family) could have enjoyed figuring out and using her new bottle opener.

I joined one of their clubs for $89. However, I was denied as I had already tried one of their promo offers a few months earlier. Rather than cancelling my shipment, Vinesse Wine decided to ship it anyway, but charge me full price of $199 without my knowledge. When I tried to cancel the shipment, they said I had to apply for an RMA and be charge shipping and a restocking fee. Very, very shady business practices. I just cancelled my account and disputing the charge. The wine will be returned as no one will sign for the shipment.

Dear William,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear the outcome of the recent wine club membership experience. With our wine club promotional offers, along with the details of the promotional offer, the terms and conditions are also provided. If a member had previously taken advantage of a wine club promotion, they would not qualify to take advantage of another promotion for 24 months. I apologize if this information was not previously reviewed prior to the wine club order being processed at the regular wine club price and being shipped. I would like the opportunity to further review your wine club membership account in effort to offer a resolution to this matter. I currently do not have the information needed to locate your membership account and identify the wine club shipment in question. At your earliest convenience, do you mind sending a direct message from this site with your member number or contact information? Or you may call our customer service line at 1-800-823-5527. Pricey and secretive
July 20, 2017

I joined for the AA miles. The first shipment really was delicious. (There were 3 Cal. Wines and 3 from europe.) And, of course, super cheap :) I just about choked when I saw my bank statement over the next shipment. The wine was double the cost of the first plush outrageous shipping fees. And they were almost all US wines. I cancelled the card they were holding and didn't update the info for 6 months. This time 4 of the bottles were Cal. Wines, 1 from Italy and 1 from France. When I questioned why only 6 bottle shipments (they had never offered a choice) I was told I could choose 2 to 6 bottles or even a case. I have a couple of months to decide but I am incined to cancel once the miles from this trip transfers over to my AA account. The verdict is still out.

Dear Sharad,

We are sorry to hear about your recent experience. Our wine clubs do process and ship wine club orders automatically and depending on the promotional offer, it may be scheduled once a month. Although the promotional offer details the introductory price of the first wine club order, it also details the cost of future wine club shipments. We sincerely apologize there was a misunderstanding regarding the wine club membership and how the wine club works. For wine club shipments that have been accepted for delivery to our respected member, and the member wants to then have the shipment returned, we do have a return policy. The wine club does not provide prepaid return shipping labels, so the member would have to pay the expense for shipping the package back for a return credit. For shipments that are returned, we will issue a credit less a 15% restocking fee. If the member has to pay for the shipping expense, only the restocking fee applies. If a member refuses to accept a shipment delivery, to have shipment returned, the credit will be less the 15% restocking fee and less the shipping and handling fee. Depending on the number of bottles in a wine club shipment, will determine the shipping rate/fee. We do not have a shipping rate of $50.00. Again, we are sorry to hear of your membership experience.

STUCK WITH 6 UNWANTED BOTTLES OF WINE
July 12, 2017

I was a day or two late to cancel an introductory membership and when I called to ask to cancel membership and shipment they said I couldn't. I originally paid for the info wine by check and I found out that they deducted $133.00 without my knowledge or consent -or without even sending me an email to remind me prior to sending which would have been my cue to cancel- from my personal checking account. I have contacted the California Attorney Generals office to complain and request legislation that prohibits this practice. It is unethical. The customer service people who always tell you to have a nice day never give you a choice if you have to be stuck with 6 bottles of wine or tell you that money is being deducted from your personal account. AVOID THIS WINE CLUB.

Dear Janet D.,

We are sorry to hear about your recent experience! We do see that you enrolled in our American Cellars Wine Club through a mailed in promotional offer on May 25,2017. This club ships orders automatically once per month, and although it is stated on the offer, we apologize that there was a misunderstanding regarding the club. You can cancel your membership at any time either through your online web account or by calling our customer service department. You can also use your online account to view upcoming shipments, where you can also delay them, provided the next shipment has not processed. This was the case when trying to cancel your recent shipment, as it was unfortunately already in transit when you called. Due to the misunderstanding regarding your membership, we have refunded the amount of your last shipment. We have also cancelled your membership so you will not receive any additional shipments. We hope this resolves your complaint with Vinesse and will consider us for your future wine needs!

Pretty much every single reviewer says "I had no idea I was signing up for recurring purchases." That is pretty much what I wine club is. Also, I'm not sure if other people's experiences were different, but they sent me an email which was absolutely clear about the club schedule and my login/password to access their website. Cancellation was easy - all online, with no calls to a customer service agent desperate to retain you. I signed up for the 3,000 AA miles bonus, which was worth the promotional price, even if the wines are middling.

Rip off and dishonest
May 25, 2017

I sent my Introductory for $49.99 in on 4/28 by snail mail (which means they received it by at least May 2). The wines arrived and were OK. I read all of the literature, including that they would send out a delivery every month. On 5/24 I called to cancel because their shipping charges are outrageous and more than other wine clubs I use. I was considering subscribing for a cheaper club but then the representative told me that my new shipment had already been sent out. I told him that it wasn't yet a month since I ordered and received no notice of a shipment and he said "We don't notify you and the shipments take 3 weeks to get to you. That is why we sent it already." 3 weeks? Are you kidding me? The first shipment they sent arrived one week after they received my order. 3 weeks delivery time in 2017 is hogwash. I asked him the price I would have to pay for this delivery and he said that for the 6 bottles sent, it was $123.49. Their wines were worth only half of that amount. If I decided to refuse the shipment they would charge my card $45 for the return of the box of wine. Be very careful if you take the Introductory Offer. Cancel immediately or they will send out a shipment and make you pay through the nose. Also, they never offered me the choice of frequency of delivery, the number of bottles or whether I wanted red, white or mixed. A real rip-off company. Best to stay away. Try Laithwaites instead. They let you know when a delivery is scheduled in time to postpone and offer free shipping periodically. I have free shipping for a year and order from them regularly. They are honest and although some prices are high, they offer specials and their shipping rates are much cheaper than Vinesse.

Dear Elizabeth L.,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your review. We are very sorry to hear about your experience with our wine club. We do state on all of our wine club promotional offers that are mailed out, about future shipments will be automatically sent monthly and the charge will be $96 plus shipping and tax (if applicable) for each shipment. Also the member has no commitment whatsoever and may cancel their membership at anytime. If there is another wine club order already processed, depending on what stage the order is in, will determine if we can cancel the order in time before it has shipped. On the priority order form, there is only the option to choose the wine preference (all red, all white, or mixed red/white). It appears the expectations about the wine club's scheduling of the second club order was not made clear. In the packaging of the introductory wine club shipment, there should have been paperwork that provided additional information about your wine club membership and also gave the dates of the next 3 club orders. We do have a return policy for shipments that are returned either by refusing to accept delivery or for failed delivery attempts due to member not being available to accept delivery. The credit for returned shipments will be less a 15% restocking fee and less the shipping and handling fee. We would like the opportunity to do a full review of your membership experience and learn more on what transpired from the start of the wine club membership to the time of cancellation. We strive to provide excellent customer service and for your experience, our effort is to offer a satisfactory resolution, if possible. At your earliest convenience, can you please either reply back in a private message or contact our customer service line at 1-800-823-5527 so we can further assist you? Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM PT - 5:00 PM PT. Thank you.

Don't do it
May 23, 2017

I did this to earn American Airlines miles... started well (I never did get the miles though) but set it up for quarterly delivery because I was going to be going away shortly after I sign up... delivery came monthly... so there were 2 deliveries when I got home from my winter trip... tried to go into my account to change again back to quarterly... the site said my username and password were wrong but only gave the option to change my password which I couldn't do since it said my username was wrong... sent an email to customer service... kept getting a message saying unattended mailbox... finally found a phone number (hate having to call!) And just said cancel...

Dear Karen G.,

We appreciate taking the time to send us your review about your wine club membership experience. I am sorry to hear the scheduling of the wine club orders were not properly set to once every 3 months (quarterly), the difficulty to access your membership account online, and trying to contact us via email. Depending on the timing of when the wine club shipments were delivered, to the time the membership account was canceled, you likely did earned some bonus air miles with American Airlines. Based off your posted review, I am unable to verify your canceled membership account to check on the earned miles. At your earliest convenience, can you please either reply back in a private message or contact our customer service line at 1-800-823-5527 so we can further assist you? Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM PT - 5:00 PM PT. Thank you.

I wish I had researched Vinesse BEFORE plunking down my $$. Terrible wine: tasted more like vinegar. No refund, only more shipments offered at more $$. CANCELLED!

Dear Joseph S.,

Thank you for your review and I am very sorry to hear the wine selection we sent you were unsatisfactory. As a wine club provider, we do take a great deal of care and consideration into the selection process when choosing wines to feature to our wine club members. However, we also understand wine is a completely subjective experience and we want each and every one of our members to be satisfied with every bottle. For that reason, we do offer a 45-day satisfaction guarantee with our wine bottles. This means is that we will offer to replace any bottle of wine you are not satisfied with within a 45 day period of shipment delivery, at no cost to you, and include the replacement bottle(s) in your next wine club shipment. We would love the opportunity to further discuss your prior experience and offer a reasonable solution in efforts to reconsider being a wine club member. At your earliest convenience, can you please either reply back in a private message or contact our customer service line at 1-800-823-5527 so we can further assist you? Our office hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM PT - 5:00 PM PT. Thank you.

The wines just don't taste good!
May 17, 2017

I've tried many a wines that I have never heard of, that's simply how you discover your next favorite bottle. But the wines that are offered in the Vinesse Wine Club are just not good! For lack of a better term they are from fake wineries, just try looking up any of the wineries listed on the label, no such place! So, of course do what you want, but if you're looking for a wine club to join, find a wine you really like, look them up on the internet and join their club. Cheers!

Thank you for your review, and we would like to apologize for any misunderstanding regarding the selections of wines we offer. If ever you are unsatisfied with the wine selected for you for any reason, you are welcome to make use of our satisfaction guarantee.
