I have done numerous housesits since joining three years ago and have been very satisfied with the sitters I have had also.
It's a great way to have a short break or long holiday and the yearly subscription pays for itself after the first sit.
TH has made holidays much easier - as we have peace of mind at home knowing our "wee ones" will be looked after.
Ive been using Trusted House Sitters for a few years now and couldnt recommend it enough. Ive met some super people through it and most of all my cat is cared for in her own home, and remains calm and happy when Im away :)
There are plenty of sitters to choose from. As a homeowner, I would like to be able to upload more pictures. The website is a little awkward to navigate. The help desk folks are really nice and helpful. If the website could be improved, I would like it a lot more.
We have used TrustedHouseSitters 4 times in the last year and have been very happy with all of our sitters. We have been gone as long as 25 days and as short as 5 days and have had great experiences each time. I have recommended TrustedHouseSitters to several friends and relatives and will post again the next time we need someone.
So glad I was introduced to Trustedhousesitters. They have introduced us to lovely, reliable people. I have felt confident in leaving my spoilt fur babies and home in capable hands. Each time we have been away, I have returned and my fur babies have missed my sitters, they must have been happy with them. I have also been very lucky that they have also cleaned my home.

I've had the same cat and dog minders for over a decade. The family who kept my dog had to take in a parent's dog and with a new standard poodle puppy, they didn't think they could mind Sadie. The wonderful woman who came in to take care of my cat, Maggie, just moved to Toronto to be near her daughter. So in February, I no longer had people to care for my elderly pets. Someone mentioned TH and my first experience was excellent especially since she only got to travel across town and because she handled a worrying 'stumble episode' by calling me immediately and making a video of the event. Vet checkup after trip cleared any worry and used the video to help in the assessment. So... I will use again keeping in mind the cautionary notes in the negative reviews. My trips are usually less than 10 days and I live in an area expensive to get to...
I was told my a friend she loves this service as a pet owner. I decided to try it as a sitter. The fee is $119 now. I joined April 24. Before I decided to pay that much I asked a representative if it was refundable. They told me to go ahead and try, cause I had 2 weeks to cancel. I wrote 3 hosts to see if I could get a house sit. 2 didn't reply, 1 found someone else. I looked to see if there were any other options today: (May 1) and nothing new appeared. So I decided this was not going to work for me and started a chat to cancel with them. As a response I was told that since I did contact a host, they fee stood and they would not refund me. After being called a liar and an idiot, I am now filing a dispute with my credit card. If you're sure this is for you, join, but otherwise: be very careful!
We have a dog and 3 cats and some small animals and we love to travel. This is the perfect solution for us. We have had 3 perfect sitters, and one time a sitter who wanted to leave earlier. THS customer service was directly available to help find a solution.
The problem is how to select a sitter, and if they cancel or leave early, what do you do?
Of course you choose some one with many good reviews. This makes it dificult for new members to find a house sit. This is not for people who are looking for a cheap holiday. For house and pet owners it is the best solution I found so far, if you can accept that strangers live in your house. It helps if you have a nice house in an actractive area, alltough you will always worry that your selected house sitters change their mind. I would recommend a lot of communication before and during the house sit.
Over the years I have caught them on multiple occasions where they offer fake profiles.
Obviously just to get you to pay for subscription.

This is categorically incorrect, and not the case. We do not have any 'fake' profiles or listings on our site, all of our opportunities are from real people, wanting to connect with a like minded animal and travel lovers.

I had heard of Trusted Housesitters, I had met Sitters walking dogs, I told friends about Trusted Housesitters and I have used Trusted Housesitters. Their website is easy to use and very thorough. Applications are easy to review, the hardest part is selecting, the applicants are exceptional!
As a cat-owner who travels 2-3 times a year, I feel lucky to have found this great resource. Every single petsit has worked well for us. The website itself is easy to navigate, and the Chat line is usually manned if you have questions. Past history of your transactions is kept and easily accessed.
I have found some lovely ladies to look after my dogs and I think this arrangement is absolutely fantastic not only it helps the sitters but it helps the owners with the dogs. Its such a great idea I hope to continue for many years
This was the first time I used Trusted House Sitters and I think this is a wonderful service. I found it easy to use, and I will use again. It is good to know my pets can stay in the comfort of their home and be looked after as well as my home. This service means I can plan trips away again and have my animal family members looked after but also enjoyed by other people who love and respect animals but may not be able to have them for different reasons - so it meets everyone's needs. I used THS for the first time this month.
As first time user, I cannot spend but great words.
After only few hours I posted my List, I received several replies from different possible sitters. I was already surprised about it. The hardest part was actually to select one of them as most seems matching all the requirements and our expectations.
We selected our final sitter based on the positive past reviews she had, experiences, the communication we had and the fact she was already moving in our country for an other sitting experience.
We were absolutely pleased by our choice and the service provided by the sitter was flawless. Our cats were happy and relaxed when we returned and the apartment was left clean and tidy.
I wouldnt hesitate to use THS again, hopefully repeating the same positive experience.
More than happy to host more travelers-sitters in our apartment in the future.
Our first experience with TrustedHousesitters has been great. The site is easy to negotiate and communications were good. The couple we chose did a fabulous job and I would definitely recommend this service to others.
We joined TrustedHousesitters at the beginning of 2018 foolishly not realizing that they would be asking for extra confirmations that cost money. We also were ignorant of the fact that many places require for you to have a car, and that you are in "competition" with THOUSANDS of other applicants, all who have more experience than you. It's an uphill climb.
We gave it a-go though. It was a fair amount of money to just toss out the window. We made contacts, we created a video, we got the background checks, we asked friends to vouch for us, and we created a thoughtful profile - and even contacted their customer service.
But at this point, I think they are well-saturated with home-sitters and homeowners; so beware. Unless you are in a metro area that's very popular, independently wealthy, I would not get your hopes up. I wish I had avoided it all together.

There are no extra costs or hidden charges with your membership with TrustedHousesitters. The only additional extra is the criminal back ground check which is completely optional, and done through a third party verification company, and all costs go directly to them for the cost of this service. Many sitters are successfully securing opportunities without this and many more have their own, so it is completely up to you if you wish to obtain this verification level.
The correlation between the amount of applicants a listing has received and success is not always strait forward, the majority of owners do not work on a first come first serve basis for their needs, you could be the perfect sitter for that opportunity, based on your experience, location, and match to the owners. Never let this put you off applying. We are listing hundreds of new opportunities a day in 130+ countries, so there really is something for everyone.

I found this website in an emergency when I needed a pet sitter at very short notice. It's a fantastic website full of very good natured and compassionate people. I had so many well wishers hoping I would find someone. The admin staff were incredible at advertising our sit on their Facebook page and listing it on their website to notify people. People on the site don't do it for monetary benefit- they do it out of a mutual love and respect for animals and an interest in travelling. Highly recommend signing up and I think it's worth every single penny.
