I love TrustedHousesitters and all of the people I have come into contact with. Choose an area. Read over the responsibilities carefully. Have a conversation through Skype or in person. Be clear on what you are looking for and what you are willing to do. I lead on-line writing programs, coach on Skype and write my own books. Trusted Housesitters has given me the opportunity to live in different places and be inspired. I spend a lot of time at home with the animals and then I have an adventure for a few hours, in the area, every day.

First, you have to pay, then you have to work for free (as a house sitter, you are not allowed to negotiate a fee). They push the wonders of taking "vacations" in wonderful places, but as a professional house-sitter and animal caretaker, I know all too well how much work it can be. Many of the places are other countries which are costly to travel to and will take you away from your actual paying gigs. So, unless you are independently wealthy and have nothing better to do, do NOT waste your time and money. The will NOT refund your money and they are pretty rude about deleting your account. Pretty much a hoax for house sitters, and a boon for folks looking for free labour.

This is my first summer experimenting with trusted housesitters. They recently and finally have a proper mobile app that is far more efficient than the web/desktop version! It still lacks a few helpful features in my opinion, but for its first app, I think that its satisfactory! Im just happy they have an app at all! One thing i would like, is to be able to search specifically for housesitters with specific filters such as experience or numbers of reviews, city, and by name when someone refers somebody. I like the fact that home owners have thorough space to add specifics like "needs a car" or "has a washer/dryer" etc and that the site offers a house manual option. That has been very helpful for me! Moving forward, i Think it would be great for the site to include helpful Logistics on checking in and checking out of the home. Helpful ways to make it efficient. One homeowner asked if I could arrive the day prior so that they could show me around the island of Hawaii where she lives to give me an orientation since ive never been there. Other homeowners were unsure how to do the day of arrival logistics as well, And asked me personally what people usually do in that circumstance and I too wasnt familiar as I've just begun a few house sits myself! perhaps something in the Housesitting listing that includes things like: can arrive the day before or can stay until the next morning after the return. Especially if it requires staying late in the evening or having to arrive first thing in the morning to house sit as many are traveling from outside places. Also, if sitters have to check in when the family is already gone, perhaps helpful options like a video tour orientation via face time or skype etc. As a check in option. Anyways just a few improvements to help make the housesitting experience run smoothly from beginning to end! otherwise id highly suggest trusted housesitters!

We have been members for several years during which time we have had some lovely sits: meeting some good people and delightful pets. I do think sitters should be given more respect, though - we give up our time to look after people's pets whilst they go away but the listings do not give enough information about the place we will stay - if we are going somewhere for a month it is good to know the place is of a good standard - one or two haven't been and we have been miserable. Some people have also had a bit of an attitude, treating us as domestic staff. On balance, most hosts are pleasant and some have been extremely kind so we will carry on sitting but would really appreciate more information (and photos) on the homes, not just the pets.

The couple we house sat for welcomed us like long lost friends. We walked their small dog later in the afternoon of our arrival and immediately knew he was going to be great company and easy to manage. The couple insisted we stayed overnight the evening before they went on holiday & we spent a lovely evening together before they left next morning Our hosts provided a clear list of everything we needed to know about the house and who to contact if anything went wrong in their absence. We emailed each other every second day and our host phoned before we left to thank us. Our hosts made our first House sit a memorable experience.

It is more expensive than other sites I have used, but you get what you pay for! There are a wide array of sits, but the best features are: 1) you receive reviews online from verified homeowners. This really increases your credibility - you build your resume as you go. 2) you can provide feedback about homeowners. This allows you to research possible sits to see what others sitters' experience has been and 3) you can have "enhanced verification" done which allows you to demonstrate your credibility and safety as a sitter. 4) they have a guide the homeowner fills out after you accept the sit. It is fantastic! It asks them all of the important details you need to know for completing the sit. Ie. Vet info, emergency contact info, housecleaning details, etc.

The only thing they don't have is the ability to save your personalized searches and then have notifications of those emailed to you. Right now you just receive email notifcations of all new sits, which is overwhelming since they have so many sits! I have learned to do a search then save that as a bookmark on my browser. That way I no longer have to enter all of my search features. Hopefully they will add this functionality to their website.

I absolutely LOVE this site and feel so fortunate to have found it. Total win/win for animal lovers who like to travel (like me!). The site is very well managed and so far does not seem to have 'glitches'. This is truly a worthy expenditure! Thank you Trusted Housesitters!

One of things we miss most when travelling is the company of a pet. Then we found THS and all this changed. For anything from a couple of days to several weeks we can enjoy living in a comfortable home and looking after a much loved pet. Dogs, cats, fish, chickens, cattle and the list goes on. We love housesitting and this is the best website we have come across for it. The listings have lots of information and photos and the method of making contact is very straightforward. Whenever we have had a problem, we have had a personal helpful reply from THS within 24 hours. Yes, we are big fans of THS, they are helping two animal lovers to thoroughly enjoy travelling the world on a budget!

My husband and I are now on our second sit in the UK. We are from Perth, Western Australia, and love the whole experience of coming and looking after fellow animal lovers homes, and pets. Having the opportunity to live like locals suits us perfectly.
So far the two homes and animals we have been trusted to care for, have been wonderful. What an amazing community to be a part of. I get daily updates via email from the TrustedHousesitters website for new listings that we can go for. Also communicating within the website seems to be effective and secure. We will be interacting with this community for much of our travels, as it saves so much on accommodation expenses, a great way to meet fellow animal lovers, and enjoy a variety of destinations living like a local. We love it!
