I want to warn others about my experience with TokyoTreat.

I purchased what I believed was a 3-month subscription as a gift. I intentionally chose the 3-month option because I did not want any long-term commitment.

A few months later, I was shocked to see that my card was charged again for another full 3-month subscription without me actively renewing anything.

When I contacted customer support immediately after the charge, before any box had been shipped, I asked them to cancel the order and refund the payment. Unfortunately, they refused and kept pointing to their Terms of Service and auto-renewal policy.

The problem is that during checkout it really looks like you are simply buying a 3-month package, not signing up for an ongoing subscription that will keep charging your card.

Because I was worried about further charges, I actually had to cancel my bank card to make sure no additional payments could be taken.

Customer support was polite but completely unwilling to help or find any solution.

In my opinion this system is very misleading and designed so customers don't notice the automatic renewal until it's too late.

After this experience I will never order from TokyoTreat again, and I strongly recommend that anyone considering it carefully checks the subscription settings and cancels immediately if you don't want to be charged again.

I ordered the 1 year subscription for my kids. The boxes were okay. A month before the next subscription was set to start I cancelled. They billed me anyway. I reached out to Paypal and them. They provided paypal with a tracking number from the previous years subscription. We're 4 months into that "annual subscription" and I haven't received my $540 refund, I have received zero boxes, and Toyko Treat won't return any messages. The Paypal case is still open and I am still actively showing them that no boxes have arrived for the last 4 months but they haven't refunded me back either.

Buyer beware!

Watch carefully for auto-renewals! You will not be notified until after your card is charged and no refunds even when notified the very same day! Extremely difficult to get the subscription canceled and forced to complete surveys in order to do it.

SCAM company

Tokyo Treats dispenses Sakuraco - a Japanese treats co. That advertises (1) month for $37.50. This is supposed to allow one to TRY OUT the product. Instead, I was sent 2 boxes@$50 EACH for Feb. And 2 boxes that I did NOT order for March. After filing a reimbursement claim w/my CC co., Tokyo Treats refuses to refund the extra $150 they have charged me, stating that I have two subscriptions under two different email addresses. I only have one email address. BEWARE. You MUST UNSUBSCRIBE IMMEDIATELY in order to stop their unwanted shipments

Refuse to refund

Very bad experience. TokyoTreat refuses to refund me 841 USD from cancelled subscriptions. Crazy! I mean that's basically stealing! When I ask for a refund the came back to me with "once a payment has been processed through our system, we cannot issue a refund". Hahaha! Don't fall for these scammers! They took enough money from me so don't waste yours too!

This subscription has a gift plan subscription. Even though they don't have a monthly plan for a gift plan, trying the 3-month plan is a good choice as well. My partner loved the box so much, and the items provided weren't disappointing at all.

Worth a try!

I ordered this subscription box to experience a bit of the snack and cultural fun I've been exploring on YouTube as I begin to learn Japanese. I live pretty far away from the nearest city with a Japanese market, but this box came right to my mail box. It was a lot of fun to gather my kids around and open it together.

This is my first time trying their service and I am so amazed at how delightful they are. From traditional treats to quirky new flavors, each box is a delightful surprise. With reliable delivery, I can't wait to see my next boxes, and if they are getting better, I can see upgrading to the annual plan instead!

I subscribed for a 12-month prepaid plan in March 2023. The first few months were fine. Although I was not too satisfied with their snacks, at least I received them. The July box never came. The customer services were terrible. They don't care about customer at all. They said they shipped and provided a tracking # that I couldn't track. After that incident, I decided to let it go and waited till the prepaid plan end. But the worst didn't happen yet. March 15,2024, I got an invoice saying I paid $540 for next year. Their website says Billed annual. Cancel anytime, but it's not true. This company auto renewed and took my money via PayPal without my authorization. I emailed them right away and they refused to refund me even they have not shipped any boxes yet. They said they still ship 12 boxes to me every month since I paid already. They said I couldn't cancel when I subscribed. I'm working with PayPal trying to get my money back.

I subscribed after a trip to Tokyo - my children enjoyed the snacks I brought back, so I thought it would be fun to recreate the experience monthly. The boxes get repetitive fast. They find a way to make any snack fit into any theme,

"These crackers are round, like Christmas ornaments."

"The cracker's round shape reminds us of Halloween pumpkins."

I made the mistake of subscribing for a year and not deselecting 'Auto-renew.' After I saw a $540 charge on my AMEX for renewal, I canceled but was informed that I would not be refunded. On the plus side, I'll be receiving the same snacks every month until 2025. Looking forward to getting round crackers that remind Tokyo Treat of Easter Eggs in March.
