Beware to the fake leads
February 24, 2023

've been a client for 4 years on Thumbtack. This page is great page to find new customers. But since a few months some of their leads start to fake like some of their competitors. Ad their refund policy have changed. They don't refund you anymore for these fake leads.

If you are a Pro, pass!
February 22, 2023

I really wanted to like the service. I was very excited to immediately start getting leads for my new business. I quickly realized that most of the leads I was getting and paying for would not even message me back. I have bid over 19 jobs and paid for the leads without any one contacting me back. I have a feeling that this company is using our bots as fake profiles to pretend to be people looking for leads. Super disappointing.

Bad
February 17, 2023

Although I wasn't taking damage in the app, I was enjoying it. Until I went to the app and said that my account was deleted. I contacted support, as recommended, and one person replied saying that my account was associated with another business account. The answer is very shallow, they don't say the exact reason. Who could I be associated with if I don't know anyone here in this country. Now I'm the one who doesn't want to go back. You can even pay me, I don't want to

Do not use this to expand your business if you are a small business owner.
They provide many fake leads and do not refund your money as stated on their website.
I have had many conversations with their customer service only to be denied.
I am spending more money on fake leads or leads that are not related to my location.
Be Wary! Do not use and make the same mistake I did.

Waste of money and terrible customer service
February 9, 2023

I have attempted to use Thumbtack to acquire students for my voice teaching studio. Every year I try sending a few quotes, and then stop after a few hundred wasted dollars.

Here's the crux of the issue; the leads are very low quality. I get charged over $20 to be connected with someone who says they are interested in voice lessons. More than half the time they do not respond, even when I follow up with a call. Often, the person is merely tire-kicking, or has some other agenda. Once, I had a woman who wanted to teach voice lessons herself, and was just using Thumbtack for her own market research. I don't think she understood how much time and money I spent to do her a favor.

They sometimes refund these poor quality leads, but admonish you, stating that you are paying for the *opportunity* to match up with new clients.

Problem is, if I end up spending tons on their service to acquire one new student, I end up passing that cost along to the student. Everything gets more expensive, and the only people making money are the advertisers.

Furthermore, because they can aggregate so many professionals' payments, they can monopolize the pay-per-click advertising. Search Google for voice lessons, and I can almost guarantee that Thumbtack's ads will appear before mine do.

Most recently, they made a few updates to their policies. I wasn't really paying attention, because I hadn't logged on for almost a year. Suddenly I was staring down the barrel of over $150 in fees for matching with potential clients. Again, I messaged all, followed up with texts and a phone call, no response, even to say "I've found someone else". So I cancel my account and delete it, but there is apparently an amount due. Ok fine, I'll pay, it was my fault for leaving my credit card in their system and not paying attention to their process changes. But I refuse to log in ever again. You can't reply to the automated emails, they get bounced back. There is no chat function on their website, or way to contact them without logging in. It wasn't much better as a user, either.

This company grossly overcharges and under-delivers

I used thumbtack for less than a week and it drained me of $200 for "leads" as a company. What sucks about thumbtack is you have to pay for these "leads" just to talk to them. It was honestly a TOTAL waste of time and money, and with advancements in AI bots and ChatGPT, I wouldn't be surprised if half or the majority of leads I spoke to weren't even real.

WORST APP FOR PROS
January 30, 2023

Basically they are charging you, filling their pockets with your money and providing a poor a super weak field in which you might find some customers. Their customer support is just terrible. For instance the app had a bug a few days ago, They sent me a lead which cost 40$ and the bug wouldn't let me send any messages to the customer. AFTER 1 HOUR someone answered me on their customer support platform and confirmed it was a bug but said they only could give me the customer's number, When I called the customer they said the app didn't really let them book me so they've hired someone else. NOW COMES THE INTERESTING PART! I reported this lead for a refund to which Thumbtack replied: we're sorry it looks like this lead is not eligible for a refund! WHAT IS THIS? AN HONEST BUSINESS? I DON'T THINK SO

Ridiculous lead fees, and they're fake
January 27, 2023

I signed up for Thumbtack hoping to generate some leads for my travel agency. Set the lowest weekly budget I could just to test it out. I had read that leads were typically about $6 each, which I was comfortable with as a test. The account goes live, and shortly after I get a lead that cost me $31. Call the number within 10 minutes, get voice mail with no name. I realize this is a scam, so I cancel my account in a panic. Just before I could cancel, I get another lead that cost me $29. The account was closed by then, so I didn't even get to see the lead information. Once you close the account, you have ZERO ability to contact Thumbtack or dispute a lead charge. So I filed chargebacks on the two leads and ultimately lost. I am out $60 for a bogus lead and another one I never even saw. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, it is a total scam! I wish I had read the review before trying it out, I just never dreamed that leads would be so expensive and come so quickly -- easy to do when they are completely fake.

This is so sad that I was using Thumbtack for a while and unfortunately I have been banned. No one could explain why they did so. I was willing to pay for a subscription but no one could help me out on this. I really don't know how are you going to keep your business like this.

Unreliable
January 21, 2023

I called Ryan and asked for a quote and basically he didn't give me one on the phone, basically said he will give it to you when he gets here. Needless to say Ryan was supposed show up Thursday and he didn't he said he could come on the Saturday because I told him I already had the garbage disposal fixed, it was just an Allen key needed to turn the blades. So we talked on the phone and he decided he was gonna come on Saturday between 1 PM and 1:30 PM. It is now 3 PM and he still hasn't shown. I'm sure he's not showing at this point. I have nothing good to say about his work, and I have nothing bad to say about his work because he never showed up for me to review it but that should tell you a lot about the person doing the work. If I could give it this review a negative star I would. This is one of the worst third parties I have ever worked with. Not only is this expensive but it's not supportive. I've spent 200 to 400 dollars on leads but haven't been hired. When ever I finally get a bite they won't either commit or pay. I've been ghosted several times and over worked with very little pay. I even had a client completely deny payment cause their supervisor wanted to change the whole design. I had spent 1 month working on a 16 by 10 ft mural.it was completed realistically. When my clients refuse payment I completely broke down. They cheated me 2000 dollars. The past month I had another client lie about what area she wanted painted she underp- me.

Now I have to take another client to court due to breach of contract and false claims. I was told to refund her money and to finish the work which was finished. My client wants free corrections even though she signed a contract stating that any changes would be charged

To all my new freelancers who uses this platform please be mindful. There are way more third parties that offer better support and cost efficient

A big no!
January 19, 2023

For the price they charged I didn't receive any normal feedback. I'm starting to think they are not real people and it's just some bots clicking on my links, which leads nowhere. I am mad at myself for trusting this scam. Do not invest your money here, it just doesn't work.

Stealing
January 18, 2023

This site steals people's money! Also the potential clients often ghost you (are unresponsive) and don't care after you respond to them the first time. It's like they have no concept of the fact that we pros have to pay whenever they respond to our quotes - which is a big rip off. This last time, I spent money on an opportunity, the client asked me if I was available to come and I responded "yes", and after that they fell off the face of the Earth. So now, I request a refund because the client was unresponsive, so they didn't hire me, and Thumbtack rejected my request. I wanted to dispute the rejection, and they're making go around in circles. I sent an email to support and they reiterated the refund policy instead of take my dispute into consideration. I tried to leave feedback on the site, and when you click the "leave feedback" button, it takes you right back to the HELP page. No space to leave feedback. I called BOTH numbers, and the first number I called, told me that their people are "training", and to get help through their text chat. Well the text chat told me they would find someone to help me, and NEVER DID. Neither one of the phone numbers has a live person to talk to. Just their people are "training", and call back at business hours. I did call at business hours! Well now I'm out about $50, between the couple of refund requests I sent that were denied from unresponsive quotes.

So thumbtack was helpful in getting me in contact with tradesmen I was looking for, but what I didn't know was that their privacy policy is garbage. They state our information is only for them and they even state that they value my privacy. I have received 15-20 scam calls a day for a week now since signing up. It took only about an hour or two after signing up with thumbtack, that the calls started rolling in- from all over the United States.
And they aren't tradesmen that accidentally got my project inquiry. No, it's people asking me to donate to some cause I've never heard of, or people hanging up on me when I pick up. They will be calls from a #*******000 or a regular number… I get them all. I'm super disappointed and annoyed by this and im really not sure it was worth it. Also, when I call some of the numbers back because they say they're from my area, thinking maybe I missed a call from someone I may know. The phone says "this number is not in service"… complete scam. I called thumbtack to remove my number but it's too late.

Waste of money-Customers are FLAKES
January 11, 2023

I really wanted to love using this site. I've hired people on Thumbtack and it's gone well, but from the pro standpoint it really sucks. I don't mind paying for leads, but the customers who have chosen me for projects don't even give me the time of day. I tell them yes, I can do the project and set up a time to meet with them. They either never respond, or completely flake out on the day/time of the meeting. What a waste of time and money, and so disrespectful. Thumbtack does nothing to help the situations at all. Practically no customer service.
