I talked with Zach and asked all my personal information, my credit card, all kind of question and told me that with one review that your own customer gives, we are going to open the account, ALL LIES because in couple days Zach or other people from thumbtack they put false review in order to open the account and start to charge my card, over $1,000 and when I realized in few days my card declined and they stop. If I would have one million dollars they will take all my
money with false leads and lies- now thumbtack don't want to return my money nor credit, nothing... now they block my number and don't answer. And the bank ignore also because my money it's already in thumbtack possession. And I never got no leads from thumbtack, I never did no money from this scam company.
Its not fair because I have my family and almost they throw me out of my apartment for non payment. Thumbtack and mr. Zach do not understand this my situation and now they don't want to give my money back. That it's called a robbery.
I signed up as a pro to get leads for my service business but it is a huge waste of money because they will charge you for leads who request services that you don't even offer and you still get charged even if you don't reply to the lead. Other platforms send me lead for free! What a joke!
Hi Chris, you should only be receiving leads for the projects you want to work on, in the areas that you want to travel to. Learn about updating your preferences to reflect the jobs you want here: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-targeting-preferences-lh-pro/subtopic-set-my-preferences-lh. While we can't guarantee that every lead will result in a hire, it's important we provide the tools to help you be successful on the platform. You're welcome to submit refund requests by following these steps: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund.
Stay clear of this company as a Pro trying ro generate leads. Everytime sometimes clicks and contacts you, you get charged for that lead. 90 % of the leads either never contact you back and are dead ends. I believe this company is using phony bots as leads that you'll never hear back from or the site is full of scammers trying to get your personal information. When you request a refund thru the website not and actually person you're contacted back that you're request is denied because it doesn't follow the guidelines for a refund. Stay away and save yourself a lot of aggravation and money
Hi Joe, we're sorry to hear this feedback and that this has been your experience. We work hard to ensure the leads on Thumbtack are legitimate, and take immediate action on any spam or scam leads that our processes and teams find. If you do come across suspicious leads or have a concerning conversation with another user, we want to know here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. As for refunds, we approve or deny the requests based on our Refund Policy: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. If you have questions about refunds, or if there's anything we can do to turn your experience around, please reach out to us directly.
I posted a simple job on Thumbtack and immediately started getting bombarded with spoofed numbers. I have a spam blocker on my cell phone. The telltale sign that the numbers were spoofed is that they were coming from the same area code as my number, which is an out-of-state area code I just switched to a month ago. The callers do not leave a message with a call back number so you can return the call to arrange to have the job completed. This is the worst referral service I've ever used and I have deactivated my account. I thought Home Advisor and Angi were annoying because of how they hounded you, but at least they didn't use fake numbers or block their numbers, and they left voice mails or emails so you could reach out to them to schedule your job. Unfortunately, because most scammers and sales people do not respect your privacy when you place your number on the national do not call registry, it is necessary to have a spam blocker to avoid those calls. Therefore, any business who legitimately contacts me needs to leave a message and contact number. If they are unwilling to do that, I assume they are shady. Those are the kinds of referrals you get through Thumbtack. And if a business referred by Thumbtack contacts you through email, you can't respond to them directly. They have some convoluted system that I can't figure out. It's unnecessarily burdensome. I would give Thumbtack zero stars if that was an option.
Hi Renee, we're sorry to hear about these frustrating experiences. It sounds like there may be a misunderstanding of the platform. We encourage and ask that users communicate directly through Thumbtack, through the messenger function. Our Help Center has great tips and information about how to communicate with pros on the platform: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/chat-with-pros. You shouldn't be receiving much communication outside of Thumbtack from pros you might hire, unless you've already started working together and have taken the messaging outside of the platform. Even at that point, we still encourage you to remain communicating in the messenger, so that it's documented in case anything goes unplanned or you need to reference it later and/or work with our team. The emails you mentioned are likely notifications from our platform, alerting you of pros attempting to contact you via the messenger. If you receive concerning information from a user on our platform, or feel that a user is spamming you, please let us know so that we can help: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern.
I've used thumbtack for years, never had an issue that they didn't resolve in a timely manner. Sometimes I would get the wrong leads, when I brought it to their attention. They rectified the situation. Better than yelp that charges 30.00 a lead on a 100.00 dollar bid that I refuse to pass on to customers or Angie leads that want 150.00 membership fee in addition to lead cost. If you don't know how to use the app, customer service is there to help. Success team is there everyday in your app. They're open to changes in your lead to fee ratio if you communicate. I completely recommend Thumbtack. Roods Locksmith LLC.
Thanks for this 5 star review, Dennis! We're so happy to hear you've found success on Thumbtack. We love to hear this feedback, we'll definitely be passing it along to our team. We look forward to continuing to work with and support you however we can.
I signed up for their $200 program. I immediately saw that the leads sent to us were too broad, and we were unable to even perform the work requested. I contacted Thumbtack immediately and was told it would be refunded. They continued to send irrelevant leads and charge me. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we want to ensure you receive follow-up about the refund. We'd also like to improve your experience on the platform, it sounds like you may want to revisit your preferences to ensure the leads aren't broad and they're exactly the types of projects you want to work on: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-targeting-preferences-lh-pro/subtopic-set-my-preferences-lh. Please send us an email at [email protected], or a DM via social media, so that we can look into your refund.
First, there's very little information about how it works except that they make sure you know how to write and post info about your business. You add the hours that you're available, and the type of business that you specialize in, and you're supposed to get appropriately matched "leads." For my business, each of those leads cost me a minimum of $35, and they began sending them as soon as I pressed "submit." The leads I received would often not have even netted me $35 in commission, and they were totally not what my business overview shows I specialize in - but you pay as soon as they send them to you, whether you accept them or not. In my case, I racked up over $300 between midnight and 7 a.m. the first night I was live with them, and they just kept flying in to me, even though my calendar with them was marked as unavailable after 9 and before 9. And, there's no evident email address or phone number to reach them at; I finally had to pull my credit card to keep them from continuing to send and charge me for inappropriate leads.
It's disappointing to hear that this was your experience on the platform. We're sorry that you didn't feel prepared to start receiving leads after initially creating your account and profile. Crafting a winning profile and importing reviews is crucial to win more jobs from the leads you receive. It sounds like you had targeting on, and your budget might not have been set at the amount you'd like, you can learn more about targeting here: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-targeting-preferences-lh-pro and setting your budget here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/budget. We'd like to get in touch and see if we can turn around your experience, you can reach us by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm MST. You can also email us at [email protected], or send us a direct message via social media. We hope to hear from you soon.
I spent over two years building our thumbtack account and a small remodeling business. A customer wrote in demanding a refund which we felt was high. We offered to go to FairClaims and give them a lien on property while it was being settled. Thumbtack froze our account, and after we reached a settlement with the customer, deactivated us without any warning or explanation as to why. We were not even given the chance to get feedback on our interaction or what terms we violated if any.
Please be warned, you can spend years investing into this platform, give customers what they want, and they can still shut you down. We are now being forced to explore other platforms. Maybe it is a good thing to spend our advertising budget elsewhere.
Hi Andrew, we're sorry to hear about your dispute. We appreciate you sharing feedback about your experience with our Trust and Safety Team. We're not able to locate your case based on the information you've shared here, but we'd like to look further into this for you. It's important to us that our dispute resolution process is equally fair for both parties, and it sounds like you exhibited a willingness to work through the concerns. If an agreement is broken, a user is unresponsive, or the proposed resolution is unreasonable, that is when our team will take action against an account. Please send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) so that we can look into this for you and provide more information about your account and dispute status.
Forget about trying to get in touch with a real person. Everything is automated. What ever you try to do no way to get in touch. Also I have been getting charged twice again for a customer that created a lead a week before which was a BS call and than charge me again for making another which should already show out of how ever many contractors they contact they don't want to go ahead with them and we get charged again.
Thank you for sharing feedback with us. You can reach our support team by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm MST. You can also email us at [email protected], or send us a DM via social media. For refund requests, we ask that all pros follow this process: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund, you should be refunded for any duplicate leads.
I have requested refunds for all leads that have been labeled as "direct" to my account. All leads were paid. Results of every lead were "no response", ghosted or not interested.
No refunds have been issued to our business account as of this date. Thumbtack makes it very difficult to get reimbursed for Un-vetted leads.
Hi Rick, thanks for sharing your experience with our team. We do have a team and processes in place, to ensure that illegitimate leads are removed from the platform, if you come across a concerning lead or concerning information, please report it to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We do issue refunds for various reasons, you can review our full Refund Policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy, if you have any questions about what type of lead is eligible for a refund, please reach out to us directly.
I hired a plumber who ended up doing a horrible job, he wouldn't refund me my money, so I went to thumbtack, and they just ignored me and did nothing. They said they would be investigation and somebody would contact me, but nobody ever did. Seems to me like they just want to get the money from the contractor for the lead, and could care less if the customer was happy. Please use a different referral site, or better yet hopefully you can find your own contractor through your friends or family.
Jean, we're incredibly sorry to hear about your experience, both with the pro you hired and our support team. When projects don't go as planned, we have a Trust and Safety Team here to support you in receiving a resolution and being able to move forward from concerns. We ask users to fill out this form, please do so if you haven't already: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. If you have filled out that form but haven't heard from our team within 2-3 business days, please let us know so that we can check on the status of your case and make your follow-up a priority to our team. You can email us at [email protected], or send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
Thumbtack got it's name from standing apart from Home Advisor and Angie's List by treating Pros like actual people. Unfortunately, that has changed. Bad leads are very common now and getting a refund for a bad lead is non existent. Getting a lead with a fake job is also now common. The best part is you no longer get a refund because Thumbtack changed their refund policy to "you only pay for customers who contact you to learn more about working with you." Thumbtack used to be great at correcting bad leads. I have had 3 bad leads in the past week and have not received a single refund, even after calling. Previous policy would give you refunds if a customer never responded to your message, not the case anymore. The leads are cheaper on Thumbtack, but at least Angie's List actually gives you refunds when it's a bad lead.
Thank you for turning a great company into a utterly worthless site that takes advantage of Pros.
Hi Ben, we're sorry to hear that this has been your experience. We're always working on improving the pro experience, so it's disappointing to receive this feedback, however all feedback is appreciated so that we can turn around experiences for you, and pros that feel similar. You mentioned fake leads, we work hard to ensure the leads on Thumbtack are all legitimate. If you come across a lead that's concerning, or that doesn't seem legitimate, please report it to us here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. We hear the feedback you've shared about our Refund Policy, and will pass it along to our team. If a customer does state they're no longer interested in the project, we will issue a refund, if they haven't responded yet we urge you to reach out again and discuss the project details. We hope through implemented feedback and consistency, we'll be able to change your experience.
I hired a so called "pro", Charles "Charlie" Lavoie of CJ Office and Home Repair for what was a small project. He upsold me on repairs I didn't need, damaged some electrical that was working fine before he messed with it, started small parts of each project, then after only coming to the house that 1 time he asked for more money. When I asked him to complete at least half of the work for half of the money he didn't respond. 2 days later he texted saying he was in the hospital and would continue work 2 days later. In 1 week he had did less than a day of work on my projects, that initially was a small $300 job. He then reported to Thumbtack that he completed work and I did not pay him (this was a lie). Thumbtack disabled my account without hearing one word from me regarding the matter (I was out of town when Charlie told them I didn't pay him). I sent pictures of the incomplete work, proof of $300 payment the day before he reported that I didn't pay him, and screenshots of his text messages. Thumbtack then reactivated my account without so much as an apology saying they would review Charles's status with Thumbtack. This lying contractor is still active on their site. There was another review where he took money and never returned. Charles claims to be a man of God, and that he takes his work personally. He is a liar, do not hire him or use Thumbtack for contractors. How can Thumbtack, in good conscience, provide a platform for contractors that they've seen proof of lying and stealing from customers?
Hi Tasha, we're sorry to hear about your experience, that's a frustrating situation. When situations like this arise, our Trust and Safety Team works to help both parties reach a resolution. If we don't hear back from either party, our typical process is to take action against their account, until we hear back and understand the concerns and confirm with either party that they're willing to work with us in an effort to resolve the issues. We were able to locate your case with our team and found that we last sent an email on August 11th, please respond directly to this email with questions or any additional information you might have to share.
Don't waste your time. Tried to use this service twice. Got no calls for contractors just alot of calls for spam.
Hi Jennifer, we're sorry to hear that. If you still haven't found someone, please reach out to us at [email protected] so that we can help.
Not a fair site at all. I have tried to leave a feedback for excellent work done by one of contractors listed on their app just to find out that this app not even showing best contractors but only those who pay massive amounts of money for their useless services.
It should be fair and customer oriented to help customers choose best and not to allow greedy thumbtack managers force bad contractors on you.
Since private interests get on nthe way I do not recomend this app to anyone, neither customers nor contractors. Its not fair at all.
It sounds like there may be a misunderstanding of the platform, and how pros show up in Search Results. You can learn about how pros rank and improve their ranking by reviewing these pro resources in our Help Center: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/my-rank-in-search-results. Ways that pros can improve their ranking include responding to their customers quicker, receiving more reviews, adding pricing, and improving their profile. If you're still wanting to review the pro you hired, these instructions should help: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/review-a-pro.
So many calls and messages with no response makes me wonder if all those leads are even real. Money out the window lately.
Hi there, our leads are reviewed by our team, and we have systems in place to ensure any potential illegitimate leads are refunded and removed. Please report any concerning leads here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern.
This place is a scam and send you fake leads so be careful. How you gonna charge me $72 for a lead that I responded to promptly and the supposed customer answers back with "thank you for the prompt response but my better half has it taken care of." I didn't even try to give her prices or anything my response was "I could come on any day that she requested" and got that answer back. That is a bogus lead and it isn't the first time they charged me for stuff like that for sure a rip off. Don't even bother with it the leads you do get are weak.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Robert. We work hard to ensure the leads on Thumbtack are legitimate, interested consumers. If you come across a suspicious lead, or your customer isn't interested in the project, please request a refund and/or report it: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund. You also mentioned you were receiving leads outside of the area you service, please read this article to update your preferences: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/travel-preferences.
I used to site to contact an officiant for my wedding ceremony. The guy stated that on his profile that he accepted all methods of payment but when it was time to pay he only wanted to use Venmo. Should have been a red flag but this is my first wedding and I was excited. Live and learn. Never again. I've contacted the fraud department and even with proof they have done NOTHING. All of my proof were disregarded or justified. Save your time and money, go else where!
We're sorry to hear you haven't received the support you were looking for, that's disappointing. While Venmo is a form of payment a lot of pros use, there should be other options and it sounds like you have other concerns about the experience. Please send us a direct message on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) so that we can look further into this for you and help you receive a resolution.
THUMBTACK POLICY IS SIMILAR TO A SCAM.
I pay more money to receive leads than I do earning money with Thumbtack. It is a horrible policy for example when I work Uber or Doordash they send jobs and i ONLY PAY IF I ACCEPT THE JOB but with thumbtack EVEN IF YOU DONT LAND THE JOB YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY and we are talking expensive leads that run over $100 for a lead and there is no guaranteed I will be hired. Let's say a clients reviews 5 pros 4 pros will be penalized to pay IT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG. Currently, I have a bill of $150 with Thumbtack that must be paid for in order to get more leads but what if the person doesn't have the money to pay it? This means the pro is not able to acquire customers to earn money. It is very frustrating and it makes me sooo mad.
Hi Renee, we're sorry to hear you haven't found the platform to be successful for your business. While we can't guarantee pros will win every job, we're here to provide the tools to showcase your work and credentials, and also introduce you to customers. We recommend setting up a budget so that you know how much you'll be spending on leads every week: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/budget. We'd be happy to get in touch directly, review your profile, and help you win more jobs on Thumbtack. Please email us at [email protected], or send us a direct message via social media.
This star rating should really be a -10. I hired Jonathon Hasselbeck, a listed Pro on thumbtack for a board and train for my German Shepherd who had developed separation anxiety. He came to my home and portrayed himself as a professional dog trainer that did board in training. He took my beautiful German shepherd, $950, all of her belongings and I never saw her again. Thumbtack did nothing to help. They said they would reimburse me the $950 and after stringing me along for a few weeks, stopped all communication. I am still traumatized and miss my beautiful girl every day. It was the worst experience of my life.
Hi Cindy, we were able to locate your case based on the information you shared. We're incredibly sorry to hear about what happened. It looks like you were initially working with our Trust and Safety Team back in 2020. We offered reimbursement but didn't hear back from you after our email on September 3rd, 2020. If you have any questions or would like to get back in touch with our team, please respond directly to that email so that we may help.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
Answer: We like that you're expanding your options, Rebecca. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers with the right professionals for anything they need done.
