Thumbtack disappeared after charging $300. Phone number for support does not work only gives press one option for text messages see screenshot
This is a waste of time, I've been with them for months and have documents showing there ripping people off. I made 2259.00 over three months. I spent 1200.00 on leads. 700 in labor and close to 300 for gas. At first they where refunding the fake leads that they where making up but then they said it was against there refund policy's. Moral of the story is it ain't worth it. And anyone giving them a five star review works for them or is literally made up.
We're sorry to hear you feel this way. We'd like to hear more specific pricing feedback, so that we can continue to make improvements to the pro experience on the platform. Please share details with us by emailing [email protected].
They take my money for direct leads "" don't get into that mess!
Just a warning, I am really disappointed

Thumbtack has unlicensed individuals and they do not check for licenses. Their background check is not sufficient. After months of communication they refuse to remove unlicensed persons or companies.

Thumbtack is a scam! 20 small business is thinking of becoming a Thumbtack "pro" beware! Less than two weeks ago I paid $200 in hopes that thumbtack would provide leads from my new small business. After a week of nothing I decided my marketing funds would be better spent elsewhere. I sent a request in to refund my $200 deposit to which I received a response that it was nonrefundable. I've been requested to speak with the supervisor who called and continue to advise she understands my frustration but the fine print states that once I make the payment of $200 it's nonrefundable because I am pre-paying for leads. Essentially, I've made a deposit of $200. I have received no leads, no service, no product, and thumbtack is refusing to refund my money to me. If you are a small business hoping thumbtack will give you promising leads just know that they are a scam. Do not use their "service".
Hi Elizabeth, it sounds like you've spoken with our support teams and supervisors about our Refund Policy and your credits, we're sorry to hear you're not happy with the outcome. You can email us at [email protected], text 415-299-6398, or send us a DM via social media.
Hope you never have a problem because their customer service department is essentially non existent. As a freelance business that provides a service, I enjoyed this company years back. These days they charge outrageous prices for leads and then when the customer mis-post services rjay they are looking for, Thumbtack will still take your money. They won't respond back to your issues BUT when you contact your credit card company to dispute a charge, they're real quick to say you're in the wrong and that they deserved the money… for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! No longer using them. Beware!
Hi Lacy, we're sorry to hear your experience on Thumbtack changed, thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. They overcharged me on leads to the tune of over $1000. They wouldn't give me a refund so I had to dpsiteu it with my credit card
Hi Stanley, if you have questions about refunds, please review this page in our Help Center: https://help.thumbtack.com/pros/topic-cost-and-payments-lh-pro/subtopic-refunds-lh or reach out to us directly so we can help, by emailing [email protected].
Did you know that Thumbtack refuses to help someone who has had a fake account opened under their email address? I have been trying to get help through phone (spoiler - you can't call them even though the site give you a phone number, since you call and it makes you contact them by text or not at all, AND THEN THEY DON'T TEXT YOU BACK), chat (must have an account to log into, which you can't if someone opened a fake one under your email), or messaging (same problem). When you finally find a support email they don't publicize, and someone from support emails you back, they tell you to fix this problem BY LOGGING ONTO AN ACCOUNT THAT ISN'T YOURS ON AN APP YOU DON'T HAVE, to deactivate someone else's account that they opened using your email address. Nice job helping scammers and harassers, Thumbtack!
Hi Roxana, we're sorry to hear about your experience during this frustrating situation, and that you didn't receive the support you needed. We'd really like to get this resolved for you, please send us a direct message via social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) for a quick response.
Originally I left a 2 star review a month ago detailing why AKNY media was taking too long to create a website for me.
Now I believe I may have been in error. The problem, at least to me was a lack of communication from Steve. However Steve never stayed out of touch. Thing is that it made me nervous.
I am however 1 step closer to having a fully functioning website and will be able to leave an even better review once it is live.
Hi Daniel, we're sorry to hear about your experience with this pro. The delay sounds very frustrating, we want to help. My husband had a company singed up with thumbtack for almost 3 years.
At initial sign they made everything look legitimate but slowly and now very greedily they have their own people who create fake leads and involve every other company possible that is turned on to show up in search results therefore charging everybody for the same job, after they come up with all kinda of excuses to either cancelling the call, saying they went with someone else already, or lie that they didnt know they supposedly have a insurance company to do the repair for free.
Unfortunately that is the world we are in right now!
Their greed shall be their downfall to an end.
We're sorry to hear your feedback, and that the platform didn't end up working for your husband's business. It's important to us that we provide quality leads to pros on the platform, we take this very seriously and have processes in place to remove any leads that are illegitimate. While that doesn't mean every lead will always result in a job, you shouldn't have to pay for leads that aren't interested in starting a project. Please report these suspicious leads here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern so that our team can look further into them and issue a refund if they are in fact illegitimate leads.
This resource is useless, they do not stand by their policy. They $#*!ing lie and make u jump through hoops even after you show proof
Hi Pam, we're very sorry to hear this feedback. We'd like to know more about what happened, please send us an email to [email protected], or text us at 415-299-6398 so we can help.
We hired a carpenter from Thumbtack & it was a disaster. The work was bad. When I asked them to come back to fix the molding, they went on offense. The 2 man crew looked more like gangbangers than carpenter. There is NO WAY Thumbtack vetted them.
Hi Jeff, this is very concerning to us. Please report your concerns with more details and your contact information here: https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern. Our Trust and Safety Team will review your case and contact you directly within 2-3 business days so that we can help you move forward with a resolution.
When you join they promise your money back that you join with. It is like a bank account for you, they stated. But later when you want your money back they refuse to refund you and stated they never said that. But they did. Then they put you on direct leads automatically with out asking you and force you to pay 90.00 a week. That is not what customer service said. Do not use Thumbtack.com.
Hi Lisa, we apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding that occurred during your sign up process. All sales on Thumbtack are final and non-refundable per our refund policy in our Terms of Use under the section “Thumbtack Fees and Taxes.”. However, we know every dollar counts when you are a business owner, so there are certain situations where we will add credit back to your Thumbtack balance. If you ever find that a customer’s request does not match your account preferences, if you quoted on the same customer’s project twice, or if a customer request violates our Terms of Use, we will review the situation. In these cases we may add credit to your account for the cost of that contact. You can read more about our refund policy here: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy. You're also welcome to set a budget each week, so that you control exactly how much you're spending on leads, or you can turn targeting off so that you're not receiving automatic leads.
We hope this information helps you move forward on Thumbtack and encourage you to reach out to us directly if you have additional questions.
They to get in touch with this company is truly outrageous. Emails don't work, chats leave you waiting after 45 minutes after they started conversation. Phone number sends you to the chat. It's just a vicious circle. I have been waiting for a refund from a cleaning company, IE cleaning did not do the job I paid them for. I will never use them again or recommend the cleaning company or Thumbtack

Download the app and also tried on web site. All they want is you to upgrade. Tried finding a dog trainer. They sent me a name but couldn't contact them. Tried their customer service, what a mistake just a lot of texts with no answer to my questions.
Don't waste your time

The contractors on this site have no idea what they are doing. One I hired Left 4 out of six rooms of my home in absolute mess. Thumbtack has washed their hands of it. They're guarantees are fraudulent at best. $14,000 worth of damage to my home and none of it was covered.
Hi Darlene, thank you for sharing feedback with our team. We were able to locate your open case with our Trust and Safety Team, and it appears you're still working with our team, and they're awaiting further documentation to determine your eligibility for reimbursement through the Guarantee. Please respond directly to their most recent email, on September 19th, with any documentation or questions you might have.
This company, by far, is the worst lead generation. They are so cheap that they don't even have a live person responding to your concerns. I have given them over $5000 so far, and they deactivated my account by mistake, and it has been two weeks. After many emails and sending help on their web site, still no news. I lost all my contact, and leads.
We're sorry to hear you haven't received the support you've needed, Maggie. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention here. For a quick response, please send us a direct message via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) and we'll look into this for you immediately, in an effort to help get your account reactivated and explain what happened.
As a pro getting leads from Thumbtack, they charge a ridiculous amount for certain leads even if you don't get the job and even worse, they won't issue you a refund when the customer decides to book with you and then cancels to shop prices upwards of a leads fee of $59!
Some customers will ask for certain services and Thumbtack will charge you a leads fee based off of what they filled out they were looking for but when you contact the customer the job is completely different and is much less than what they posted on Thumbtack which you should be issued some type of refund for.
So many inconsistencies with Thumbtack from the Pro side and really disappointed that they don't have adequate Chat features or help for the Pros. They unfourtunately only care about the money and increased lead prices they make as well as the customer.
Hi Paula, we're sorry to hear this feedback. Our goal is to provide quality leads to professionals, while they might not always result in a hire, we feel confident we have the tools for pros to become successful on the platform. We'd like to gather more details from you about the lead pricing feedback you've shared. So that we may improve, it's helpful for us to have examples of the lead pricing you're seeing, size of the job, and the industry you're in. You can reach our support team by texting 415-299-6398 Monday through Friday 6am to 6pm MST, or emailing us at [email protected].
This site is a straight scam. You are charged for pseudo leads that you have no way of knowing if they are real or not. I have paid out for "leads" that have only amounted to me being informed that they were leads. NOTHING ELSE! No way of contacting the generator of the lead. No way of knowing if the lead was even valid. Just words saying they have a lead for you... and you get charged for that. Then there's the case where you get charged for the exact same lead twice simple because the first lead has a different letter in the name yet everything else is spot on copy! This site is not a site for finding leads for work or anything like that. It's a site that simply charge you for SAYING they have a lead

Also, for those looking and can not find this is Thumbtack's number *******809
Hi Jerry, we're sorry to hear that this was your experience on Thumbtack. We encourage you to submit refunds for these leads by following these steps: https://help.thumbtack.com/article/how-to-request-a-refund. It's important to us that pros receive quality leads, while they may not always result in a hire, you shouldn't have to pay for duplicate leads.
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
Answer: We like that you're expanding your options, Rebecca. Thumbtack is a local services marketplace that connects customers with the right professionals for anything they need done.
