I've shopped The Real Real many times and am never disappointed. I really like how easy the site is to browse, filter, and favourite items. I especially love that measurements are included, since the fit can be tough to gauge, depending on the brand. The quality of the items is also always accurate and every item I received is in great condition and as pictured. I wish the UPS experience was a little more seamless (I live in Canada) but other than that, I can't complain!
Recently I placed two orders that showed they were confirmed. The orders did show a 3-day shipping delay, which was fine. The orders sat for 10 days without shipping information. This prompted me to contact customer service and instead of receiving a reply my orders were canceled with an explanation of inventory issues. While my account was credited the full amount and a $25 credit for my inconvenience was issued, it is still frustrating. In this day and age inventory management is streamlined and it seems as though The Real Real is having problems. This concerns me as I also sell through them.

Bag could be less costly and delivered more rapidly. Check my account history, I have bought enormous amounts of items and should be in VIP list.
Having been a customer since it's inception, I have to express my disappointment in this company the last few years.
Pricing has gone up significantly, to the point that I have chosen to buy full retail over this platform more often. The "hunt" for a great deal or piece is no longer exciting. Also, pricing is way off for some items. I'm a former retail buyer, and prices often seem askew to me. To validate my suspicions, it only takes a quick Google search to find the same item and do a price comparison. I have found that items are often mislabeled and unfairly priced. I recently filed a complaint on an item that I found brand new online for half the price, and they told me they would address my issue with a supervisor but that was a week ago. Still waiting to hear back.
That being said, RR can be a nice platform for consigners who just want to get rid of stuff without the hassle of shipping and returns. I do both buying and selling there, so my feelings are mixed.

I had some confusion and concerns over a consignment placed with TheRealReal. I was unable to get a clear explanation until I called and got a fantastic phone rep who explained the steps that had happened to my item and resolved my problem. She was a gem and deserves a promotion and a raise.
It takes so long to receive your credit back from an item confirmed as returned
I have yet, two days after speaking with a representative, to hear ANYTHING about where my order (place one week ago) is and why it is not shipping! This has been a terrible experience and causes me to distrust this company's practices. There is obviously a a problem with their fulfillment system.

The listing was accurate, well detailed as always, neat and clear pictures, the conditions of the item listed was correctly described as always, etc. The option to return items is also very convenient. All my experiences with TRR (hundreds of them) throughout these 9 years have always been great. I love TRR. And I highly recommend it
I was sent the wrong size shoes 3 times and each time the customer service rep did nothing at all to help

Credit for one. Was told the St. John jacket I purchased was final sale, which I was unaware and the jacket is back for sale and I only have a credit to use. Not good. I don't want a credit I may not be able to ever use...
Pros - Very good customer service, big inventory and quick shipping.
Cons - Charge shipping and retuning fees on both ways... No return at all on bags... Descriptions on some of the items are off.

As a once avid & admitted rabid fan of The Real Real I gave them an abundant amount of time to regain their once fabulous reputation & now I think they are gone for good, at least to me!
In the last month TRR has sent my merchandise to unauthorized addresses, lost product 3 times blaming UPS or On Trac shipping services only to find that the merchandise never left a warehouse, taken an extraordinary amount of time to process my merchandise to list for sale, listed new merchandise as used that I sent for resale & underpriced fine jewelry that I sent with appraisals.
As a retired jeweler & senior manager for international luxury companies I was willing to be patient knowing COVID set many places of business on their heels but the behavior of TRR goes beyond the pale in 2023.
Losing merchandise, shipping to unauthorized locations, misrepresenting merchandise has exceeded any level of patience that I can muster!
A word to the wise if you have given merchandise to TRR, watch your sales, keep track of your merchandise. If you are unhappy request a return of your product.
It is sad & shameful to watch a viable company lose it's appeal.
Not only are they losing their reputation they are swiftly losing their integrity & apparently management either doesn't get it or worse they don't care!
If I were them I'd be looking for a reliable competitor to buy the company! Here's hoping!

I've been consigning with RR for 10+ years, and unfortunately, my luxury consultant seems to change every few months, which gets very confusing.
I recently called Real Real consignment relations to get my current consultants contact information. The rep on the phone said that Alexandra had texted me two weeks prior. That didn't happen. The representative on the phone said that Alexandra would call me that day. That didn't happen... so, I have consistently reached out to Alexandra 3-4 times for help. No response ever. Frustrating

Overall i find the items to be mostly as described but i would really suggest that the Real Real indicates the clothing size actually marked, AND the measurements made. They mostly try to do this but there were some items that felt mis labelled in terms of size

The app is a dream to use and has great photos and notes on sizing. I found many fab items that all arrived beautifully. Every piece but one worked for me size-wise. The only thing that was confusing on the app was the return procedure. I sent a few emails to clarify but didn't hear back. Luckily I live in LA so I did it in person. The first person I saw at the store was so rude to me I was shocked. I found another desk with a lovely person to handle the return and they were just as professional as the shopping site and all is well now.
Had some returns and customer service was very helpful with the return process.
Never received an item, have inquired many times over a month +, no response

Answer: Do not buy from them! Their return/refund policy is skewed to their benefit. In my case, I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and when it was received it was not in the condition advertised or the photos did not highlight the real wear of the bag and they refused to make a refund or credit. It's their lost because I have since bought many bags on Ebay which offers guarantee of refund should item be faulty or misrepresented. Also, on Ebay you can judge by seller feedback whether the seller is reputable and PRICES are so much less than on the REAL REAL. Their name should be changed to the REAL GREED!
Answer: Hi Samantha. The RealReal does sometimes ask for additional information from customers for a one time security check. Most times, this is for new customers who have never shopped with us before, orders with vastly different billing and shipping information, or are international customers with unverified credit cards. We will ask for some sensitive and personal information for the purposes of verifying the identity of the purchaser but we will not ask for a Social Security Number. Was your father attempting to complete his purchase via Affirm? Affirm is a third party company we work with that offers financing on purchases. If your father was attempting to complete a purchase via Affirm, they do require a SSN for a soft credit check for the loan approval and repayment options. As Affirm is a third party, we do not have access to any of that information so it is secure with Affirm. Of course, no one is required to use Affirm for check out, rather it's just another payment option we offer. Answer: If you like to be frustrated, disappointed and want to take a few years off your life, then yes consign with the real real.
Answer: I do NOT recommend selling through TRR. Read all seller reviews. This a speed selling co trying to cash in on a quick commission. The prices they assign are RIDICULOULOUS at best. They are not there to get you a good price but a fast buck for themselves. They priced a brand new prada bag with a label on at $625. Minus 20% permanent discount, 60% of that, I receive a whopping $312. After 10 days wait of processing and seeing the prices assigned I pulled my items. I was shocked and even more upset. I rather give the cloths to charity or sell them myself. I think it is insiders who buy the best items at dirt cheap prices they assign themselves. As a buyer just today I receive a wrong item. They were going to research the problem and find the item I purchased, a coat. They sent me a dirty silk top... This is after waiting for 10 days to get the wrong item. This co is just very bad. Customer service is spotty. Some reps are just dreadful. They sound like this is a summer gig and they got no training, you can never speak to a supervisor, none is ever available, Read the reviews and decide if you still want to use this co. If you do, you will be disappointed,

Answer: I don't work for The Real Real I am just a satisfied customer, very satisfied! I see all the complaints, and just shake my head. Knowing how people can be, and also knowing the complainers are the ones who write letters, I can only assume they are "out of touch with reality", or POSSIBLY are competitors who are just being difficult to try and hurt the site. Remember, anyone can write anything, that does not mean it is true, nor are ALL the facts being presented! As for me, I am willing to show, and prove who I am, and the great products and service I received.
Answer: This happened to me only one time, and I have sold quite a few items with them. As soon as I received the quote for a pair of earrings. I contacted them immediately and said I felt the price was to low due to various reasons, and they got back to me the next day with an adjusted price. I have never experienced what you are describing above as a bait and switch scenario, and I always check the similar or same items they are selling. I would just call them and ask for the details as to why the other item is higher. Sorry you had a bad experience!
Answer: File a complaint with the US Customs office in your area and your state's attorney general. Also for many types of goods, they will destroy the counterfeit goods and give you a letter stating they have done so. This is ironclad proof for the bank dispute.
