I use TextNow primarily on my desktop since transitioning to 100% work-from-home. I've had my account for about two years. I can send and receive texts reliably. But that's where the fun stops. While I get an ocean of incoming calls (spam) and can make calls out, the calls will last only UP TO 45-seconds. Then the calls inexplicably disconnect. I was just waiting on my bank to return my request for help. As the customer support agent was verifying my identity (44-seconds into the call), the call disconnected. Now I'll have to sit on hold for hours to get through to another agent--and that call will likely disconnect quickly, too.
It seems to me like TextNow is purposely disconnecting some calls to save bandwidth for the company's high-paying customers. This has been happening to me consistently since I opened a TextNow account. It doesn't matter what kind of internet protocol I use (high-speed wifi, ethernet-connected...), my calls are invariably ended in under a minute. But if I'm waiting on hold to speak with a customer support agent (like with my bank), the call persists as long as I'm willing to wait (hours...). So something is happening with the active voice calls.
Another issue I have with TextNow is that I can't find a way to bulk-delete spam calls/texts. You have to sit there clicking on each message/call, selecting delete, then CONFIRMING delete before being dumped back in your call/message queue. This is a massive waste of time.
If TextNow had proven reliable, I'd have happily bought a plan with them even just to use on my computer. But if they can't put forward a good showing with their free plan, then I have no confidence in the company.
By the way, I did contact TextNow. Their customer support asked me to create a new account to "test." But the account sign-up page recognized that I already had an account so wouldn't let me create a new one via email. The TextNow agent then asked me to link a "test" TextNow new account to my family's Facebook or Apple account pages. Are you kidding? To troubleshoot I have to disclose our other accounts? That's one way customers' private data is stolen--via these linked accounts. So, no, TextNow doesn't offer a reliable alternative to traditional exorbitant mobile phone services.
With the April 2021 app update (using an iPad mini), I cannot make calls using the contacts list. Must memorize and type in numbers. The app opens the list, but clicking on a contact does NOTHING. Can no longer paste a number into the dialer. The bubble to chat with support is extremely TINY, almost invisible, as is the print in the text boxes. I notified the company of those issues, but NO RESPONSE. Even if there was a response via chat, I would have to copy and paste the tiny print into another app in order to be able to read it. A fairly good app is now HORRIBLE!
For some reason they keep logging me out of my account on both the phone and the website. They HAD BEEN the number I'd been relying on being overseas and having no phone whatsoever that I can afford where I am. (Europe). Too bad there's nothing that's completely free like that for a UK number, not that I can find easily.
Drawback to recapture number if we don't text for one week. Overall good service but too many ads. Free package is good to use
I hate this app it is the worst i log in and it is taking so long to loud this is the 3rd day all ready it is not working i hate it i think you need to fix your app 1 STAR
This gives you a free number on wifi calling with iunlimited calling to poretty much anyone and it has voicemail, plus the cost for full service is very inexpensive too, its fantastic been using it 6 months now and I love it, I run 2 seperate phones on textnow, and they are both great.
Received some sick text message with people cut to pieces and people with their heads cut off the first time I tried to use text now
This app is a scam when I tried to use my phone number to unlock my Twitter account and it said the phone number was invalid! Please do not use this app it is a scam!
This is the app that many scam operations use. It is typical for a scammer demanding money for tax debt or cancellation of social security benefits.
Total waste of time and money... spent 9.99 and two hours of my life and their techs still could not make it work...
Several people I know including myself have been scammed thanks to this horrible idea to have this. Easy for theif to pic location and lie to people and steal 500-2,000 from innocent peolple. Especially puppy scams. Thank you text now for aiding thieves! You should be ashamed of yourselves
Had a phone number with them, i changed it because I was receiving weird calls. Then the person who own my older number now had access to my contacts and texted them during the night. One of my friend told me the next day he received weird texts from my previous phone number. My first language is french and this person spoke french too..
I don't know why but this $#*!y sign in for TextNow is not working. I am trying to log back in but yet it is not letting me log in, it loads but when it loads it takes forever and when it is done it stays on the same page. The call quality is horrid because whenever I call someone the sound glitches and whenever I talk my friends cannot hear me, and whenever my friends are talking i cannot hear them sometimes. Also they should make it offline use so if you have it open and you have no WiFi you can still text and call. Even though it says it has offline use it is not true. But overall I like TextNow, they just need to fix the calling quality, the log in and sign up page, and the offline usage.
First, I appreciate that TextNow provides a way to get a low cost or even free additional number. And having tried MANY other comparable services, I have to admit the horrible audio quality is standard. In more than 10 years, I have yet to use a decent VOIP phone service no matter what part of the US I've lived in or who the provider is (large cable companies or small apps).
But what make TextNow especially frustrating are two things: 1) There's no way to BULK DELETE messages. So you sit there getting rid of one junk message after another. And every single call that comes into your number is stored as a call. I think TextNow subscribers get so many junk calls because the numbers are so frequently recycled. See problem #2:2) For some reason I can't find yet, I get DOZENS of spam calls every single day. It's so bad I have to keep my device OFF because otherwise I get calls from junk callers all day long at work. Now you understand why problem #1 is so bad. To use TextNow, you have to constantly scroll to, select, delete, then--an added waste of time--CONFIRM DELETE every. Single. Junk. Call.
Oh, and the service is unreliable, to boot. I've missed multiple calls due to tech issues with the service. And callers tell me the voice mail system doesn't work. They'll call, try to leave a message, but either they're disconnected or the message won't get delivered to me.
Although free (I wouldn't buy one of those outdated, glitchy phones they sell for a paid subscription), TextNow just isn't worth it. Even if you were willing to put up with the massive waste of time fielding and deleting junk calls, your other parties can never hear you on the other end. Getting messages isn't reliable. And the constantly recirculated pool of numbers sets you up for oceans of junk calls. I give the app 2-stars instead of 1-star because, unlike many of its competitors, it at least does work on my phone. So it's a decent emergency texting service when you need to send confirmations... but don't want to use your real mobile number.
First of all the phones from textnow must be factory rejects with no support. I got service for my whole family and what a mistake that was... I tried to give them a fair shake but now I have a pile of junk phones and they continue to Bill my Paypal account with absolutely no service! 3 months ago I went with another carrier and I had to close my paypal account to stop the billing on my credit cards and of course I can't get anyone to reply for my request of reimbursement of extra payments.
Stay away from Textnow! Big Ripoff!
I've been getting these weird messages from a dating app I use called Tagged. Each message comes from a girl using 1 photograph on there profile. The conversations always start out quite normal but what concerns me the most is that every single girl that is messaging me who gives me there phone # has a (786) area code. I find it hard to believe all the girls talking to me have the same exact area code and not to mention when I reverse the phone # it show's there all voip #'s, From (Doral Florida), associated with textnow. If your unfamiliar with the app. It is a 3rd party software that offer's free texting or calls to it's user's. Be aware and alert. These scammers are getting smarter these days. They lure you in, talk to you like a normal person, wait for you to let your guard down and take advantage. I thought thing's we're going well at first but the minute stories began circulating about how they needed money for mysterious tragic event's happening in there lives. Things took a turn for the worst and many red flags we're drawn. Don't let these people fool you. If it sounds to good to be true or if you get a strange feeling. Trust your instincts or avoid the situation at all costs.
I have been using this app since June they charged me twice plz email me back at *******@gmail.com I just pay the bill plz get back to me my name is debbie
DO NOT GET ANY PHONE APP. I have had multiple people calling this # and txt this # all hours of the night. Looking for a hooker! Hookers use these as their business lines. Text now gave me someone else's #! Talk about security issues. I feel so unsafe. And very scared when they call or txt me. And am now trapped because I have used this # for things I have to get calls from. If you want safety just get a pre paid. I have reached out for help and not once has the issue been addressed. And I live everyday in fear I've upset one of the callers and they trace it to find me! Shame on you guys. This innocent has happened with all the apps. And is absurd!
I missed a HUGE interview because of this stupid f-ing app. I do not recommend getting this app- SERIOUSLY have never been so pissed at an app and also the their website! DO NOT RELY ON TEXT NOW! THEY SUCK!
Answer: No limits I have used this app dozens of times a day and for several hours on some days
Answer: Well well well, u pushed the right button. I don't trust them at all. They tried hardly to get a photo of any of my government IDs, together with a photo of my credit card pretending to verify my identity and they rejected all other means for verification including calling my bank.
