Screwed out of an auction
September 25, 2018

I was the high bidder, I watched the auction wind down to 0. It flipped over to "Final High Bid" with my bid listed and a message that I was the high bidder. I looked at it for a bit, the clock never restarted to add 3 minutes. I was certain I won. I walked away.

5 or 10 minutes later I came back and somehow I had been outbid and the auction was closed. I have liked StorageTreasures but this just makes me feel cheated and I feel I can't trust the website.

Terrible all trough
June 20, 2018

I ended up spending close to $2k on a unit that should have had a "Running Car" a bunch of tools and boxes with tools and so on... It was supposed to be a new facility... I paid my buyer premium of 400, we rented equipment for the haul and went to pick it up. First thing fishy was there was no phone number of the storage facility, storagetreasures somehow had this numbere and provided me with what was the owner, manager and person I will be dealing with... We went to the facility on the next day and it turns out the facility is nothing but a mechanics shop up front with less than 10 units in the back (obvious storage for junk from the shop itself). The guy that met us started with how he knows nothing of the whole thing... but then he conveniently hand me pliers to cut the lock and knew exactly how to help me unlock it when the lock was jammed... All boxes were completely empty, car was in worst than terrible condition and certainly not in driving condition ( it had no battery and was pushed into the unit, because they forgot to change the gear from neutral). Luckily after talking to storage treasures this time around Patty ( the only decent person there said the auction will be default because the owner of the so called facility did not have any paperwork to be selling as a facility and the sale should have been listed as private seller. She spoke with the "So not knowing" guy and told him to give us our money back. I decided to log onto my account few days later at storagetreasures and see if the remainder money was returned. Guess what I was banned. I called and when describing the situation to the guy on the phone (Mike or something) he rudely began telling me how the sale was legit and everything was the way it was supposed to be. He unblocked my account and said that because we both decided to part ways with the seller my buyer premium would be refunded. The whole situation was fishier than a left outside in the sun Carp for 4-5 days and I am never ever doing business with a place that does not even stand behind their own word! BUYERS YOU ARE WARNED STAY THE F AWAY!

I have worked in the auction and storage business and I know the ins and outs. The way this company and website is setup, I can clearly see ways they can cheat the buyers and always win. They present themselves as honest and fair but they will never admit fault because they can get away with it. I have had 3 negative experiences; each one they never admitted fault and I lost big!

I actually won a unit in Gaithersburg Md facility today after the auction restarted twice. What all of you need to be aware of it that this LLC pulls the auctions based on the lien amounts of the units that the owner owes the LLC. The auction I won was $677. Even though I won the bid, received an email that I won the auction, Made payment to the LLC, When I called to schedule a clear out date, I was told and in not so nice a way that the auction has been cancelled. Cancelled, even after it ended, was paid for and told I won. What Storagetreasures don't make clear is you can win the auction but if they do not get what they want they simply cancel the auction after it actually ended. If you attempt to talk to their main customer service, they (Michael) because he says he is the only one there, will laugh and tell you they can do what they want. They have been in business for years and have sold millions of units. Wow! This is certain interesting. They call this customer service? I am going to see if my legal representation thinks the same way. This auction is the WORST!. Scott Brown

Be prepared to deal with your favorite auctions to be cancelled at any moment and for auctions to restart even if only a couple hours away. I had less than 12 hours left on a bin and I checked to see if I was still the highest bidder and the time had been reset to 7 more days. Don't get your hopes up.

Storage units never go for the price they jack them up on TV. Again, I work in this industry and know how bogus prices these are, don't get suckered in. Also, any unit that has fire arms in them at auction, legally they are not allowed to be posted or sold. The facility is not allowed to post pictures of any firearms and must call the local police department to pick them up. Another bit of info I have gathered, some of these people on the show are paid ten thousand per episode. Not saying units aren't worth bidding on but don't get blindsided by this show. Good Luck!

Hi Moe,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are not associated with the any TV shows that are out there. All of the units that are posted on our website are posted by each respective storage facility.

Buyers/Bidders BEWARE!
January 5, 2018

Due to the fact that a majority of the units that we bid on are lien units and a balance is owed to the sorage facility. The storage facilities are able to bid you up so they can get their money owed. This is not fair. You end up paying doube for an online trash unit, then you would a decent live unit! It is so obvious when the storage facilities stage the lockers!

Also, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR PICTURES OF THE ONLINE UNIT & COMPARE THEM TO THE UNIT WHEN PICKING IT UP! You may find that several items may be missing. I have experienced this myself!

All in all, this website is trash, and so are the crooked facilities on there!

Hi Brienna, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Most storage facility operators have policies that do not allow their staff to bid on their own units. We have heard of some staff no longer working at their company due to this, so most facility staff stay away from this practice.

Great advice regarding checking units. We always recommend this to our bidders.

Regarding your comments about our website. We would like the opportunity to know why you believe this to be true. Please provide us with more detail via private message or public response.

Thank you,

Bought a unit that did not mention it was the owners left over crap he gathered up around his yard and threw in the unit. He put good stuff in the front to make it look good and advertised a few other units with nice stuff. Spent 1k on two units of trash that he admitted was crap given to him and abandoned thinking we were the other customers of units. Too bad we already paid. TO top it off... he closed his business. SCAMMED!

Spent $4200 on a auction that seemed like a good deal

Its basically staged crap that they put valuable stuff in the front and in the rear its all filler trash.

I bought 3+ auctions from this website all trash. If you reallly need to buy a unit don't spend more than half your bid as if your going to a physical live auction

Hi Simon,

I am sorry to hear that this happened! We don't recommend to any of the self storage facilities not to cross the threshold when taking pictures of the units. Please let us know which seller did this so we can note your experience and keep a look out for more customers who have had this happen to them.

I bought a unit today. No one bid against me and I actually won it for the opening bid $10. I drove to the facility, PAID for the unit and was let into it by facility staff.
I put my lock on it and went home as it was getting late.
An Hour after I got home I received a call from the facility telling me that there was an error in the listing, they were cancelling the sale and if I had removed anything from the unit I had to bring it back. I had already PAID. I called storage treasures and pretty much got the run-around for several hours, was told a supervisor would call me( never happened) and finally was told "were just a conduit your problem is with the facility" Well storage Treasures i've found out this is not an isolated incident and if you continue to let these unethical facilities to post sales on your site then yes YOU are a big part of the problem

Hi David,

I am a member of the Storage Treasures team and wanted to take the time to apologize for the experience you had with this auction. It sounds like a terrible situation to be in. I wish there was more we could do but it sounds like this storage facility made a mistake and tried to get you to return any items.

We would recommend to the seller to reach out to you directly to discuss resolution. Since you did purchase the items and the sale was completed the items should be yours unless you agree to a satisfactory resolution with the seller. We should have helped by providing an avenue where the seller and buyer could have discussed what to do together.

I also apologize that we failed to meet our Customer Service standard and not following up. We take ownership of that and will do everything in our power to improve the Customer Service level. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Waste of time. Scammers!
September 29, 2017

Customer service is terrible. Only read from a scripted sheet... You can bid and even win or maybe drive down to the facility to only hear that you actually didnt win and they canceled the auction at the last second. Typical scamming business. Ive been doin this for too long and the online game is a SCAM. Whats worse is the platform ST allows this... WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. Oh and they will charge your card eventually refunding you.

Hi Chris, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We greatly appreciate the feedback and will strive to improve our customer support. I do want to make it clear that auctions are cancelled by the storage facility. No matter if the auctions are held Online (our platform or otherwise) or Live, auctions will get canceled. We understand the frustration that his brings but unfortunately, it is out of our control. The most we can do is provide you with the knowledge, from our experience are the typical reasons why it is canceled. If these cancellations were to happen after you were charged, we make sure that the bidders are refunded for the fees that were collected from Storage Treasures. If you would like to discuss please provide me your contact information via a private message. I will be happy to call you.

Timesaver: Over the years of experience as a general manager I spent many years doing auctions on site, it's been wonderful having you help us with our auctions and it saves lots of time. If we do have a customer go to auction it's nice to know they still can buy it right up to the day it sells if they get there and pay before the bidder WE the general manager will cancel the auction. Hopefully managers pay attention to the size of unit they list because YOU Storage treasures have no control over that and it is nice you help with back up bidders, I have had people be a high bidder and never show up in the time frame WE general managers put down to have it vacated which can be 48 to 72 hours or you can rent the unit. Thanks again for all your help.

June 21, 2017

It sounds fine until they mess up. Then the MGR-ART (WHOS A CONDESCENDING A HOLE W NO MGMT SKILLS) CONTACTS U AND TELLS U BASICALLY, UR STUPID OR CANT READ.
I WON BID BY DEFAULT DUE TO WINNER DID NOT PAY DEP BY NEXT DAY by S. T. GUIDELINES@ 445 next day. I contacted facility which confirmed the winners non pay, I waited for my Email alert as bk up buyer. Never got an email. When I contact MR ART AGAIN, HE SAYS" FACILITY DID NOT REQUEST A BACK BUYER... WTF? THAT IS S. T. POLICY WHEN U SIGN UP. HE GETS RUDE WHEN CAUGHT IN A LIE THEN SAYS, "ITS IN POLICY RULES"... SO IF UR 2nd bidder, legally won by DEFAULT, how can a FACILITY say F UR BID AND JUST RELIST OVER THE 2nd bidder. This is BUSINESS AND S. T's CHILDISH MGR is ALLOWING FAVORTISM FROM FACILITY'S TO OVERRIDE ST RULES. THATS ILLEGAL AND FAVORITISM WHICH COULD B BUDDIE BUYING W NO $avail and LEGAL WINNERS R LOSING BCUZ OF THIS. THE PLUS IS A QUICK RESPONSE W TERRIBLE BS TO THE BIDDER. IM VERY UNSATISFIED W THE MGR.

Good morning Andy,

We are sorry you feel this way. Unfortunately, the information you were provided is as accurate as it can be. Since we are only a conduit of the sale; we cannot determine when a bidder has not followed through with their obligations. It is up to the storage facility to contact Storage Treasures in order to determine if they want a backup bidder. Based on the information provided, the facility allowed the winning bidder more time to pay and clean-out the unit.

This is allowed per our Terms of Agreement in page 9 Section 4:

4. Terms of the Seller's Sale to the Buyer
This Service is solely for the online collection of bids, in order to make public storage auctions held at self storage facilities more widely accessible to the public while minimizing the inconvenience to the storage facility. Therefore, all terms that do not need to be established by the Company for the proper functioning of the Service, shall be left to the Seller to delineate with the Buyers or to negotiate with the Buyer. For example, the Company shall not establish reserve/minimum bid requirements, an expanded deadline (beyond the 72 hours specified) to empty the contents of the Unit(s), access to the Unit(s) by the Buyer, or timing or method of payment by the Buyer.

Please keep in mind that the Seller is the storage facility and the Company is Storage Treasures.

Because of this part of the agreement the winning bidder did not breach their agreement and no backup bidder were requested by the storage facility because of their willingness to work with the winning bidder.

We hope that this information will clear up any confusion that may have been caused.

Thank you for reaching out on behalf of Storage Treasures. However, I will not reply via private message because your company has already been called several times about our account. I tried to resolve the problems before posting a negative review. I didn't ask for anything that would result in a cost to Storage Treasures or the Seller. Unfortunately, Storage Treasures rep was unprofessional and basically said "tough luck". Not a great way to treat the customer :(

Hi Rachel,

If you wish to provide your account information, I recommend doing so via Private Message. We just don't want your personal information being public, that is all we ask.

Any other experiences, you are welcome to share via Public path, as is your right. If you want to help us improve, please share your experiences and what you deem conflicting as per our Terms of Agreement.

Thank you,

Buyer Beware
June 7, 2017
Previous review

Too many issues to list, from the conflicting terms and conditions (see David R. Review - spot on), terms required of the Seller that Storage Treasures does not hold them to, my auction account and invoice stating a 10% buyers premium but being charged 15%, and more.

This company claims to simply be a conduit between buyer and seller, but does not behave as a neutral third-party. They do not seem to be interested in making things right with me as a buyer. I have NEVER had such a negative experience with a company. I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.

Storagetreasures please fix/correct/change/tell the truth for your online policies and rules. The remarks made here in your answers to legitimate questions do NOT follow the policies and procedures listed on StorageTreasures online web site. And Fraud is the correct word for doing such as mentioned by other reviewers. There is one reply where you tell the absolute truth - that your policies and rules are only suggestions to the storage facility on how to sell their property, where there is no agreement or requirement for them to follow any of StorageTreasures SUGGESTED policies. BUT the buyer is to be held accountable to such rules. So in reality StorageTreasures.com is a storage locker version of Craig's List only you charge a finders fee on all purchases. Forget let the buyer beware - buyer run away!

Good afternoon David,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to assist with this request and would like more details in order for us to provide an appropriate response. Please either send a Private Message or reply to this comment. We will be happy to answer any questions to clear the confusion our responses may have caused.

Someone needs to look into this at StorageTreasures.com.

There are several lockers listed in the Philadelphia area with only a 48 hours clean out time. If the minimum clean out time is supposed to be 72 hours, why can the Seller enter 48?

My husband and father in law buy units online. On more than one occasion were high bidders on a unit, drive miles to pay and pick up only to find out that the unit size was advertised incorrectly. Recently, they drove over 5 hours to pick up two units, arrived to find out that a 10*15 was only a 10*10. If you know units, that extra 5 feet is a lot when it comes to purchasing. Tried resolving at the place of business and no resolution. I then called storage treasures and they stated that because the place of business offered them 50 dollars off, and they refused, they would not refund our deposit. Gas money, deposit, not to mention the time away from his business for a wasted trip. If you are winning make sure you call to verify the size of your unit before you drive. False advertising!

Let start by saying that soon as they did there website make over there has been nothing but problems.
1. If you win a bid and the auction is canceled afterwards which happens more so then not. Good luck trying to get a refund i called at least 7-8 times and demanded my refund. I should not have to go threw all this trouble to get back my own money.
2. SCAM check your credit card they are charing $10.00 a month to be a premium member even if you did not sign up. When i called to dispute this they said i had to have ordered the premium service which i did not. Meanwhile you could hear someone in the background on the phone with the same problem i had.
3. A class action lawsuit should be filed i will be looking into this

Good morning Tony, we are always happy to issue refunds when an auction is canceled after sold. Unfortunately, this does happen as tenant's have the right to cure their accounts with the storage facility before the sale is final (it is final when you pay the self storage facility). Sometimes the refunds take longer as the auction is not marked as Canceled on the website and we have to confirm with the storage facility before proceeding.

We understand your concern about the $10 Pro Membership charge. We do not in anyway sign a member to be a Pro Member without their consent, especially since there is a charge to it. We are confident in our team and can assure you that the individuals on the team will not intentionally do this to any our customers.

We would be happy to do what we can, within reason, to earn your trust and business. We appreciate your feedback and will look forward to any other feedback about your interaction with our site.
