Deceptive Marketing Practices

I was doing an investigation for a client regarding possible commercial fraud, I entered the phone number I needed information on and was notified that Spokeo had all the information I needed but of course, I had to pay the fee and agree to a monthly subscription, which I did. When the actual report on the phone number was generated there was NONE of the information promised on the previous page that convinced me to pay the fees. At BEST this is Deceptive Marketing Practices and at worst it is consumer/commercial Fraud!

Avoid Spokeo and the Hidden Recurring Payment
February 7, 2023

I needed to confirm the identification of a person who claimed to be representing a company that was calling me. I opted for the one time use with spokeo for $.95. Unknown to me, I was enrolled in a monthly account with automated recurring charges. Seeing the recurring $29.95 charge against my paypal account confirmed the fact that spokeo buries this somewhere in the fine print. I immediately canceled the account but spokeo only wanted to refund $11.98. I called spokeo customer service. This was not about the money but the principal. Quirstin - 1714, at customer service avoided explaining why I was not getting a full refund and repeatedly tried to brush me off. After insisting to speak with his manager multiple times mr. Bunhead finally gave in and refunded the full amount.

Good Site

I was able to log on, get access, easy payment, and retrieved my first phone number, the sit is intuitive and easy to use. It's difficult to come up with 100 words since my association with this group is so recent and only used the one time I mentioned. I needed to find the real name of someone trying to extort money from me and insisted I give them 500 dollars or they would ruin my reputation

When I provide an email address if it pulls nothing then don't say you have a full report and charge. The answer is you don't have anything. Bold faced lie to say you have a report when you don't. Don't try the bull of we have a report of nothing. I pay for answers. Nothing is nothing. I hope you get closed down or people at least stop using your scam ware! Your site is devious, untrustworthy and unhelpful.

The site lies

I wanted to look up the owner of a phone number. The site showed a bunch of topics I wanted to know (name, last known address, etc.) and showed a "check mark" by all of them. The actual results (once I paid) didn't include most of what they "check marked" to say that they had.

FYI, I obscured the usernames (not IRL names) and other info that might dox one or both of us to ensure I don't get doxxed.

Great results if you know how to search

Spokeo is a valuable tool if you use it right. It's not the cheapest solution out there and can aid when using multiple search sites. I have always had success with the basic info they have up and do purchase full reports from time to time.

I've used spokeo for;
1. Tracking down a deadbeat parent (multiple times)
2. Doing genealogy research.
3. Finding friends and family.
4. Helping people who were adopted find their birth parents.
5. Working with non-profit organizations to track down missing and abducted children. (100% success rate)
6. Ran background checks for potential dates.
7. Used it for my work to decide if I would extend a payment program for clients.
8. Used it to determine if a potential employee possessed the traits I look for in an employee.

So it has many uses.

The downside;
1. Records are not always reliable as data goes into databases and the wrong info typed in.
2. The prices for monthly are ridiculous because you pay a monthly sue fee but if you want an upgraded report it's an extra $24 boo!

Paid before finding no results

I searched an email address. Looked promising since the spokeo site came back and asked for $0.97
Not a huge cost, so OK. Paid my fee and then found out there were no results. Seems like a scam. Tell people there are no results before you bilk them for a buck. $1 is not that big of a deal, but if you defraud 1 million people for a buck, it becomes real money. Change your damn policy to reveal at least the count of the results before asking for money. SMH

Fantastic!

The FedEx delivered a wrong package to me. With Spokeo I could find her phone number and found out she had gotten my package by mistake also from FedEx. SO, we exchanged boxes. Each with our correct names on them. That made two very happy customers of Spokeo.
