Shutterstock's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction primarily due to its subscription model and billing practices. Many users report feeling misled by the terms of their plans, often facing unexpected charges and high cancellation fees, which has led to accusations of deceptive practices. Despite these concerns, some customers appreciate the platform's diverse image selection and filtering capabilities, which enhance user experience. Overall, the feedback highlights a troubling disconnect between customer expectations and the company's service approach, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support to regain trust.

Stole my money, they give you a free trial but don't let you cancel, its impossible as you have to beg them to do it, no way allows you to do it yourself. I'm still battling and they keep taking my money
WARNING, do not subscribe to TRIAL. They will charge you several days before your trial ends, then you will find out that you are enrolled to yearly subscription where for the cancelation they will charge you another $20 only to cancel it. Had to cancell my credit card at the bank. Unbelievable that such a large provider is such a scam. Do not use.
These mofockers charged my card for $30 without my knowledge and when I called to ask about it, those b*ches say they'll charge another $20 to unlock my card. I had no option so they charged me $20 AGAIN just to be able to remove my card from the account. I don't know how many other poor peoples are being trapped in this scam company. I kindly request you to warn anyone who talks about this sh*tty site to stay away from them. This is the first time ever I'm posting a review. I attached the screenshot from my bank account.
DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT use this $#*!ty service. They're a fraud and their claims are not genuine. You WILL NOT be able to cancel without a 2 hour hold on voice.
Don't using 10 free download from them, you will can't cancel it. Your account will be set up with the auto renew feature. I've had it with SS and will be moving my business over to stock adobe or 123rf or using tools getallstock.com for get cheap all stock photo you want with no any hidden fee.
The reviews are quite unfair. These are mostly written by people who do not follow through the correct procedure of unsubscribing. My experience is, I asked the support team to terminate my subscription one week before they start charging, and they did it WITHOUT CHARGING ANY FEE. It's the matter of how you be human and understand that they also are, so you can't expect things to happen right away. If you've followed through the correct process yet still experience failure, my sympathy. But if you rant here without proper reasoning, you're a bad, bad human being.
Terrible! Stay far away from this company that doesn't disclose upfront that there is a cancellation fee after you've signed up for their "FREE" trial month!
There should be a legislation banning companies from unfair cancelation fees.
Why Shutterstock doesn't offer a yearly subscription where they ask for the 12 months upfront? NO, they offer you monthly subscriptions, where there's no where you can see they cancelation fee. Not to mention that you are automatically enrolled in a renewal.
This should be illegal!
Be ready to pay for a full year - even if you just want to use their monthly subscription for three months.
By default when you sign up for an account, your account will be set up with the auto renew feature. And when you try to contact support for a refund, the people are very rude. I've had it with SS and will be moving my business over to 123rf and istock
As said in many other reviews these guys will be feeding on your credit card and make it extremely complicated to cancel automatic renewal (which is turned on by default without any option to turn it off yourself). Customer service is rude and unhelpful.
I am starting to get so freaking tired of companies tricking you into paying them money instead of just offering a good service and letting you decide if you want to continue to use them or not. It's so sneaky to put in small print that this is an automatic charge monthly and that it is an annual plan. Can a company stop trying to scam their customers and just do normal payments just like everyone else. If I want to continue to use you I will. Stop forcing me... to me it's like one of those things like we got them on the hook when we buy from them. I know this sounds like a crazy idea... but hear me out How about you offer a good service and guess what I will pay you again if I like you out of my own will not because you tricked me into an annual plan. Also if you are going to do an annual plan you should do it a one time payment so we know it's for the year and not some tricky one month at a time payment to make it look like you can quit when you want. I am getting so sick of companies doing this to scam and trick their customers. They are all about that one time customer instead of offering a good service and keeping a customer for life. I would of continued to use them but now because they used trickery to get me on the hook for the year, I will never use them again. Congrats Shutterstock you got me... but jokes on you because you lost a potential life time customer because you have to resort to tricks. You deceive people to make money. Look at the reviews here... a straight one star. How are you still up and running with a one start review. You are a publicly traded company too? Wait until you get more and more bad reviews. Then your company will sink... all because you use trickery instead of just providing a good service and letting people choose if they want to continue to use you or not. I'm thinking of getting people together and filing a class action against them. I am so freaking tired of companies trying to trick and scam customers. Do a freaking yearly plan or monthly plan that you can cancel anytime. Stop tricking people! Are their any honest companies left. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Not transparent about pricing at all. I will never use them again.
Absolute nightmare! I went for the 10 free images a month offer only to be charged. It never stated charges in the subsequent months and it said offer ends in October. They still have the offer and now they are stating its one month free trial and subsequent months are charged £22.08! It says you can cancel at anytime but now they are charging a termination fee to cancel!
They are not transparent about pricing, so you will likely end up paying much more for those lovely images than you think you are paying. I accidently signed up for the monthly subscription. Unlike most monthly subscription plans though, you can't cancel easily. You can only turn off the auto renewal in the last bill of the year! You miss it, and you are stuck paying for years. Cancel the credit card you have on file, complain to the BBB, your police anti-fruad unit, or your comsumer complaints govenment department... Do whatever you have to get these guys to stop this.
Signed up for a monthly plan and they said we are locked into one year. Watch out. You cannot get a hold of anyone and they will also bill your card early on those installments. Surprised to find out how shady this company really is after reading reviews. Run the other way...
Shutterstock is the worst. They overcharge for everything then won't let you cancel without grabbing more money from you. I accidentally signed up for a year membership once. I figured it out less than an hour later and asked them to cancel and switch my purchase to a per image charge since I only needed one image. We went back and forth for days and they refused to something as simple as a click of a button. I know, it's that simple because I run a business. Total asses.
Shutterstock has fraudulently charged our bank account for three years every month for $199 without consent. This totals $6,567, which is more than a quarter of most American people's salaries a year. Shutterstock has only refunded 12 charges out of 33! We only purchase a one time transaction for 40 images. We are a pest control company, not a web development company. 350 images per month is outrageous and not plausible. Why would a pest control company subscribe to a 350 image monthly subscription? You can even access our log in history. Customer service even confirmed our company has only logged in once. It didn't cost your company anything for this "fraudulent" subscription because our company didn't even log in or use its services. Shutterstock was debiting out of our account to obtain free money.
$30 a month for 10 free downloads and they don't even roll over the unused downloads to the next month. Tried to cancel and they basically make you pay for the whole contract so you're stuck paying for a service that's not worth it. Customer service is trash as well!
All the images that you will download will be in a poor quality!
Please be aware! I paid for nothing!
Shutterstock has the worst company service. I signed to buy 10 images - then miraculously' i was on their monthly plan which i never signed up for. After 4 months i realized this asked them to refund the 4 months - they only refunded 3 and asked me to pay' a cancelation fee to get the 4th month back which basically is almost the price of the month. Seriously stupid, short sighted - after 10 years of using them - I'm done
I used Shutterstock years ago because my computer teacher was a contributor and paid for it so she encouraged our class to use it as well.
A friend referred me to this position so I applied. I first got a phone interview which was fine but the recruiter lied about knowing who referred me, then I got accepted to phase two. I would say that I wish I didn't get to the second phase of the interview (which was in person) but now I know what a terrible interviewer looks like.
For those of you thinking about interviewing here please read my lil piece:
The interviewer had come late and with bad energy. She didn't make eye contact with me and seemed standoffish from the start. She only asked me about my first internship, and downplayed it. I understand that as a recent college graduate I may not have the most impressive work experience but to later make passive comments about the answers I gave in an effort to let me know Im not fit for the position is one of the most unprofessional things I've encountered thus far. Can't believe someone with that much lack of emotional intelligence is in charge of hiring potential employees. Not really sure what she's going through but hope she gets better.
Anybody else:
I haven't used the service in ages, but it looks like it's gone to sh*t and the employees definitely hate their lives based on what I saw when I went to interview. So, good luck if you're vibin' with this service.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
Answer: Yes once downloaded the images are yours to use forever and they have many plan options, some of wish are one time payments
Answer: On tge website there is not a option to purchase a single image however, if you have an ios or android device you cam download the shutterstock app and purchase the single image of your choice
Answer: Call them but they'll charge you a $40 cancellation fee!
