Shutterstock's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction primarily due to its subscription model and billing practices. Many users report feeling misled by the terms of their plans, often facing unexpected charges and high cancellation fees, which has led to accusations of deceptive practices. Despite these concerns, some customers appreciate the platform's diverse image selection and filtering capabilities, which enhance user experience. Overall, the feedback highlights a troubling disconnect between customer expectations and the company's service approach, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support to regain trust.

Won't approve any photos on quotes that are imprinted in the concrete. Won't approve photos of just body of water, says it's not clear enough. Very picky and misleading on what they want. Uploaded 15 pics, none approved for non related reasons.
By my own admission, I failed to read the fine print but find the profits harvested from contributions to be absolutely woeful. A platform that manages intellectual/creative content should not be taking 80-90% of sales - I am genuinely disgusted by the business model. Furthermore, I believe Shutterstock to be founded, and driven by a photographer.
My best advice: do not be lured into submitting content to receive as little as. 10c per sale - it is near robbery, and could not be less supportive of the contributors that the platform feasts on.
I signed up for a "free" trial while my adobe cc account was put on hold. I downloaded few images, then cancelled the plan.
One month later I see that I am still being charged for their services. I login into my account and I see that it wasn't actually cancelled and it carried on into an annual contract!
I try to cancel it again through their website and I can't actually do it without calling them!
Their website is design so that you can't notice small prints during cancellation. I do remember that I clicked cancel the plan but somehow it still was charging me.
This is outrageous, it's like being robbed in a daylight.
Their free plans have hidden charges. After the free period the subscription will not end and it will get charged. If you want to cancel they will ask the balance payment with it. Refer the screenshot attached.
They locked me out of the website so IF I was trying to cancel I cannot. I used 2 of the 10 free images. They took 3 payments for a service I haven't used since early September was able to view the cancellation but told me pay pay for a annual account I know I didn't agree to. Then I felt myself being unreasonable and I excused my self and they called me back are you friggin serious...
Do not order anything from them. They will allow anyone to sell pictures, even if copywrited by someone else. They are selling pictures of people's children without permission. If you try to fight them, you have to jump through hoops to get them to remove the pictures. They advertise "royalty free," they should advertise "stolen."
It seems impossible to cancel - for 6 months I've tried and there is always a story.
I signed up for a month trial, tried to cancel, was never cancelled, saw my bank statement a few months later, they were still charging me... and never carrying over any images from the months I paid. Spoke to customer service twice, they were rude and put the phone down on me. THIS IS A SCAM! Rediculous.
These guys are scam artists. Make it incredibly difficult to cancel, will pull out some hidden fees to cancel. Do yourself a favor and STAY FAR AWAY. Ugh, I've had swallow enough damage to my wallet from these crooks.
I canceled their free trial because I wasn't using it enough to actually purchase, then discovered they charged me 30$ anyway. Called, explained that I didn't use the service, and they told me they would charge me another 40$ to cancel. When I told her that was ridiculous, she put me on hold to supposedly ask if there was something she could do. She told me she would give me a one-time refund and hung up. But she lied, as I confirmed 3 days later with a different rep, who also shoved me away and said he would email me. This company is just a scam.
I was charged three months in a row after cancellation then I call them to see what happened and they were going to charge me a huge cancellation fee. Oh and I got charged again this month! After cancellation two times! DO NOT USE. I had to cancel my card because of them charging. You have been warned BUYER BEWARE.
I contacted Shutterstock about cancelling the annual membership that I was mistakenly signed up for. They would not let me cancel without paying an absurd fee. My two options were 1) pay an absurd fee now and cancel or 2) pay significantly more money in the upcoming 10 months. I cancelled paying a fee, but I will never go back to Shutterstock. I am now aware that a large number of customers are scammed the same way. What a disgrace.
I signed up for a one-month free trial. On the site they say that it is $29 per month after the free month. I was charged $29 after only 27 days and found out that they automatically sign users up for a year-long contract with a cancellation fee.
I've used dozens of SaaS services over the years and have never experienced such unethical practices. They refused to refund my money.
Shutterstock contribuitor is totally scam!
$ 0.10 earn for each picture is a exploration of artist!
No customer service, they dont allow to me to close my account, even delete pictures, I can only delete 3 for each day
Don't loose your time, stay out!
I downloaded a set of vectors from shutter stock of the 50 states for use in my digital wood carving machine. Was really excited about making these customized for people. When i opened the file the vectors were garbage. No way to get credit even though the file they were selling is garbage. I told them this was my first and last purchase to many others that do what you do and my business does not have time for rip offs. A $100.00 lesson for me.
I was billed of 29$ 5 days before the free trial ends, i immediately tried to cancel my annual subscription and emailed and chat customer support, i thought i was also one of the victims but to my suprised the agent immediately processed the cancellation and even requested the refund of 29$ which was billed to me.
It's all trap. They are only here to charge from your card. No moral response at all. Even for closing account they will charge you. Worst experience I have ever seen.
They changed their user policies and charged me for a picture that I clicked on for $99 and when I called right away to tell them I didn't want that feature they said there was nothing they could do about it on top of the fact that I paid my annual fee for my usage. I had them shut my account down affective immediately. The customer service was really bad and they're new Way the system works is not user-friendly I accidentally touched the button and got charged for it or some thing that I would never ever use. So basically I lost a few hundred dollars on the deal. Too many other companies out there that want my business
They just keep taking my money. 1 image has costs me hundreds of dollars. My free trial has been impossible to cancel and they keep on taking money every month. You can not cancel at any time... not WITHOUT paying a huge cancellation fee.
BEWARE. Do NOT do the free trial
In the middle of COVID they charged me $60 to just cancel my annual membership. Look at the other reviews, not a good company.
I canceled my account but they kept charging me. By the time I caught it 3 months had passed and they said the only way to cancel (again) was to pay more money (the $20 monthly difference between their yearly subscription and monthly subscription). I felt like I got caught up in a scam. Very disappointed in customer support at Shutterstock. They are not in the business of helping customers but for finding sneaky ways to take your money. Buyers beware.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
Answer: Yes once downloaded the images are yours to use forever and they have many plan options, some of wish are one time payments
Answer: On tge website there is not a option to purchase a single image however, if you have an ios or android device you cam download the shutterstock app and purchase the single image of your choice
Answer: Call them but they'll charge you a $40 cancellation fee!
