Shutterstock's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction primarily due to its subscription model and billing practices. Many users report feeling misled by the terms of their plans, often facing unexpected charges and high cancellation fees, which has led to accusations of deceptive practices. Despite these concerns, some customers appreciate the platform's diverse image selection and filtering capabilities, which enhance user experience. Overall, the feedback highlights a troubling disconnect between customer expectations and the company's service approach, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support to regain trust.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS SERVICE.
Shutterstock is a scam and they continue to charge you even when you cancel and when you contact them they advise you of a cancellation fee of $60.
Do not even sign up for the month free subscription.
Signed up for what I was lead to believe was a free account just to browse the site and they charged me $29. I contact them to cancel it and refund the money and they tell me not only will they not refund the $29 but that they're going to charge me another $20 to cancel the account. Absolute con-artists!
Purchased ONE (1) photo from this site and they roped me into a $30 monthly plan without my knowledge. Tried to cancel my subscription multiple times only to be met with condescending costumer service. It's so frustrating as is trying to make ends meet as a young adult but this company really kicks you while you're down by robbing you $30+ every month. Do NOT use this website.
THEY THEIVES AND THEY WILL KEEP TAKING MONEY FROM YOUR CC WHEN YOU CANCEL! A RIP OFF! THEY HAVE NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND DESERVE TO GO OUT OF BUISNESS!
I have not used shutter stick for many years but noticed today that taken 34pounds out. God nows how many years they been taking it out. Probably only used it once. But I know I won't get a penny out of them as they got a auto repayment every year unless you opt out. They must be making a fortune robbing every to $#*! and Harry. $#*! Turpin has nothing on this lot. Instead of sending out a renewal reminder they count on people forgetting or not realising the money is coming out. Stay well clear of these people just out of principal. I won't get my money back but I can certainly start writing a review as and when I can.
Just went to use my remaining credits on day of expiry - I've had it in my diary and all organised. Turns out they go by UTC time and they expired a few hours ago even though it is todays date. Chat person was supremely unhelpful.
Highly unethical business practices. Don't allow you to remove your credit card information, and trick you into an annual plan which is paid MONTHLY. Someone with the means to do so should get them out of business
I was attracted to the standard clickbait - 10 photos for free.
I wanted to download some pictures to see the quality of the photos.
For registration they demanded to enter card data, I did that.
I downloaded 6 free photos out of 10 and forgot. Then I saw that I was charged 34.80 USD at the end of the month.
I wrote to the support service and asked for a refund for the service I did not use.
I was charged another $ 24 for canceling the plan.
They refused to agree to a peace agreement and a refund.
The money for canceling the plan was withdrawn, citing New York state law.
My case is a visual description of the service and approach to clients.
Read the terms of use carefully, because under a beautiful and seemingly harmless advertisement there is a tangible threat to your wallet due to inattention to the small print.
You cannot cancel a subscription with a button on the site, only through support, where they ultimately require you to pay the difference between the "discount".
All in all, a terrible service with a fraudulent scheme.
Their policy is terrible! I would not suggest to use this company. There is no way to cancel their subscription!
They will sign you up for an annual plan and when you goto cancel it they will make it seem like you are canceled when you turn off auto renewal- YOU ARE NOT! You have to go into yet another menu and cancel. I wish I could give them 0 stars, it is a BS business tactic.
I give shutterstock one star because zero isn't an option. I went through the signup process and at the end was not automatically logged in. So I typed in my email and password and was notified that my account had been deactivated. Today, after 4 days of pathetic dealings with their service people I received notice that I have been banned for life because of involvement in troubles on the sight. Not sure how that's possible when I've never logged in. Ever. The email also said they will never respond to further correspondence. How is their company successful?
Cannot recommend Shutterstock, they use the highly iffy and potentially fraudulent method of guessing the date of an expired credit card's new expiry in order to continue taking subscription payments.
Use someone else, theres plenty of competition.
Unauthorised payments that do not show up on your profile payment history but do reveal themselves on your bank statements. The free trial trap caught me out, when somehow I was billed for two separate annual subscriptions. When you contact customer support you are mocked. Took out a fraud dispute through my bank to address the issue, and cancelled my card for security reasons. Scum.
If ShutterStock.com comes up in your search, don't stop; keep looking. I thought I was purchasing a one-time package. However, I was immediately double charged. Apparently, auto-enroll is the default setting. And that means when you make a purchase, you are immediately and automatically charged the same amount for a future purchase. And the images - even the top quality ones - are not that good.
I want to cancel my subscription. There are no terms and contiditions relating to cancellation fees.
1. There is no way to cancel your subscription with Shutterstock on line without contact help desk.
2. You are unable to remove your credit card.
3. Help desk doesnt cancel but suggests different plans.
4. A second email is required to start the cancellation process.
5. When you ask them to cancel they debit a penality fee, immediately, with no justification or reference to their terms and conditions.
6. When you ask them to provide justifcation they do not reply.
7. THIS IS unethical business practice and strong revommend to look at other picture stock companies
Absolutely horrible experience!
They are real thieves!
Custom servise 0.
I could not imagine that there are still such irresponsible companies today. I wonder why Google does not show well about Shutterstock's terrible service. Then there would not be so many frustrated clients.
With my continued pressure on Mastercard over many months, ShutterStock finally relented and I received a CR for all my charges. A huge effort required but I was determined not to be screwed by ShutterCock as I now call them!
Before venturing deeper into this review, please take note of the following.
I am a contributor for Shutterstock's image gallery. This review is based on that aspect of the site, not the purchasing.
I am a photographer. As such, I've taken to selling photos on various stock photography sites on the internet. I have my work on Adobe Stock, iStock, Alamy, and more. Shutterstock stands out from the rest of these sites for all the wrong reasons. The review process is absolutely terrible. Your images will be rejected at random, and it will site that your image is out of focus or has excessive film grain. The problem, however, is that this is blatantly incorrect. This is made very clear when the images pass the inspections on all other stock sites, all of which follow the same acceptance guidelines that Shutterstock has in place. The AI governing photo acceptance is broken. Having gone onto the user forums, I've found that this is even an issue that Shutterstock is aware of. Rather than fix it, they have told users to simply brute force images through the process. Just resubmit them until it goes through. This is, in my opinion, unacceptable.
If you are looking to get into selling stock photos, steer clear of Shutterstock. Save yourself the time and headache. This site is not worth the hassle you need to go through. Unless something drastic changes with their acceptance process, they are absolutely not worth using.
The quality of images drastically reduced over the past 10 years. Now they are accepting all kind of images, and often images bought from their website are out of focus, grainy or shaky. Content found on shutterstock is subject of laughter on the web. Strongly recommend to avoid shutterstock and look for other options when buying images.
They charged me twice on buying a $49 plan, I have informed about this to them, but these guys dont care at all. Waste of $100 bucks from this rubbish. I mean why would you not refund me my money back, Instead of legitimate selling your plans, why the F*ck you would rob twice the amount!
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
Answer: Yes once downloaded the images are yours to use forever and they have many plan options, some of wish are one time payments
Answer: On tge website there is not a option to purchase a single image however, if you have an ios or android device you cam download the shutterstock app and purchase the single image of your choice
Answer: Call them but they'll charge you a $40 cancellation fee!
