ShopGoodWill Reviews Summary

The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and shipping practices, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction over exorbitant shipping fees, poor item descriptions, and inadequate packing leading to damaged goods. Many reviews highlight a perceived shift from a community-focused mission to a profit-driven approach, resulting in a loss of customer trust. Goodwill Grifters
October 3, 2022

Watch out for expensive shipping. Most stores overcharge on that. Possible shill bidders. Poor descriptions and photos.

I won a large pair of fairly expensive speakers, paid and scheduled a pickup. I arrived this morning, and only 1 of my 2 items are there... the expensive ones being the ones missing. I was told they couldn't find them anywhere in the facility. That there must have been a shipping mixup. What? There was no shipping! Common sense may lead one to think that someone is taking advantage from the inside. Yes, I will be refunded... but there was no communication. No notice. On another note, I won another piece of equipment from another state, and it was shipped with no packaging at all. The item was a perfect condition CD player. Again, really? It of course did not work when it arrived. I asked for a refund, they said they refunded, but I haven't seen the money in my account. Insanely terrible customer service under the excuse that "we're Goodwill, so it's good enough". Please. I've seen you land $1000+ for a single vintage receiver, that you received for FREE. Hire some competent people to oversee operations.

Oh the Goodwill greed.
September 24, 2022

Bid on a pair of earrings. Shipping was not noted as read based on location. My fault I made the assumption this was a fair honest process. Paid $8 for earrings and about $10 shipping for MN to AZ. We are talking small ounces for small pair of earrings. Maybe at very high $5. It was a bait and switch as I had no choice after winning bid. I'll post real cost when I receive. Goodwill takes advantage of the people they should be supporting. Greed Greed Greed. Sad!

Changed shipping after winning auction
September 21, 2022

I checked shipping before bidding, it was $14 shipping and $4 handling. After I went to pay it was still $4 handling but mysteriously went up to $20 shipping! I knew shipping is high but how can they change it after I win the auction?

I want to give this site a good rating. After all, it's Goodwill, which is why this isn't a one-star review. I'd rather buy used for a charity than help to fill the landfills with good items or buy clothing from countries where workers are repressed or even enslaved. But in addition to the ridiculous shipping and handling costs, it takes forever to get items you've paid for. I just got an e-mail saying they'd ship out the item I paid for between 7 and 10 days, not including weekends and holidays. So it could take three weeks or more. When you buy from goodwill dealers on eBay, you get your items days after you pay for them. So I'm done with this site. It's not worth the trouble or the money.

... they will 'lose' it, refund you your money, then 'find' it and put it up for auction again in a month or so.

It has good and bad to it
August 24, 2022

I have enjoyed the site for buying alot of items and been using it for almost a year or so, the shipping is highly priced and can be a hit or miss on packaging. Recently i had a permanant overdue charge that they wouldn't take off even though it wasnt my fault, i was paying WITHIN the time it gave me, was waiting till the end to combine shipping with another item, but it stopped giving me option to pay before the deadline closed. The day after that extra past due had made me unable to bid on a item i was waiting all day for and lost it. Deciding on whether i should keep buying from them or not after that. You can find good deals but usually its cheaper to buy it elsewhere most of the time. I would give it better rating if it wasnt for there system being poor and unable to fix there own mistake.

Giant Ripoff
August 16, 2022

I bought some Cross pens for $40, spent $16 on the shipping of their choice, and when it arrived, NEITHER the pen nor the pencil worked! Customer Service could care less "we get such volume that we can't test things." Then it should be stated on the auction that it is untested as to whether the dang pen or pencil actually WRITE. Intentional misleading by them. Do not waste your time and money on this website!

Bad service
August 14, 2022

Goodwill doesn't care about you. As long as they got your money they're good. I bought items from Seattle but they take way to long to ship. I thought I was buying in America not over seas. It been 10 days since I bought my item and they still haven't shipped it. Probably have to wait another 10 days to get my item. At least ebay gives you a refund. Good luck at goodwill I'm through..

I have shopped here numerous times to find a deal. Cameras to collectibles there are deals to be found. Out of maybe 10 transactions the shipping was high on 8 due to handling fee and Fed Ex shipping. So you still got a deal and think ok I am paying more for shipping than I would like but I still got a deal. Of course until the day your item arrives when you eagerly open the box to find it improperly packed and broken. You are mad then think about filing a claim then you just say to yourself NEVER AGAIN!

Avoid South Texas Jewelry Auctions
July 28, 2022

This would be the Corpus Christi Goodwill location. They don't pay enough attention to their descriptions. Bought jewelry described as stone, nearly half of it was plastic. Items were broken as well since they packaged poorly.

I have had no success in resolving an old but ongoing issue. I've been unable to find an appropriate phone number for which to make contact but have sent multiple emails with absolutely no response. At this point I am no longer interested in doing business with this company.

I purchased a tripod. The picture showed all legs in working order, but when the item arrived the middle legs do not lock as they are broken. The purchase price was $7.99, shipping over $24! They offered to refund my $8 and let me keep the trash, or have me ship it back and take a %10 restock penalty. I feel they are dishonest and this feels like a trap.

STAY AWAY! After being a customer on shop Goodwill's retail site for a few years, and spending $40,000 or more. I had an item that was not delivered. I informed formed them of this as soon as FedEx stated a delivery was made. However, I never received the item. After multiple back-and-forth with shopgoodwil, they refused to give me a refund. What makes it so ridiculous is that this was an item that I paid $120 for, however I had spent over $40,000 on their website. Further, these are free items from us, the public. Absolutely disgusting! It is absolutely not safe to purchase from them, Stay away at all cost.

Buyer Beware!
July 12, 2022

If you are looking to buy a original painting on Shopgoodwill.com be very careful! They are saying that prints are paintings to get them sold faster, and if you try to ask them about this by sending a message, you will probably not get a response back, or they know they got caught in a lie and send you a message back, oh i am sorry it is a print. All i am saying is don't be deceived by this plot to sell more art or what ever they sale. And if you are trying to buy a real painting be sure it is! Because you'll be stuck with a print that you did not want to buy, They are selling prints as paintings up to 100s of dollars, people they made believe that a print was a real painting! And they get sent a paper or cardboard print. That is a joke! Be sure you don't waste your money! And that you really are getting what you want to pay for.

I just returned a dress that looked nothing like its photo. I have now concluded that they are just throwing "any piece of Krap" on the auction site for bidding. In 2016 when I first started using GW's Auction site the merchandise was nice. But now in 2022 it is trash. I texted the company that several of the their stores are just putting any trashed item up for bid. Items that should be sold in the stores only. This dress was old, smells, has yellowed tags, made of cheap scratchy fabric, looks like it was in a closet since 1970. If I had seen this dress in person--I wouldn't have bought it, not even to wash my car with. This dress should have gone into the store or in the recycle fabric bid. My $9.99 turned into a $33.00 EXPENSE.

Almost bid on a $14.99 spinning wheel and checked the shipping first. How can the actual item weigh 12 pounds and you have shipping weight of 115 pounds. You think your getting a good deal for $14.99 then see the shipping is so expensive you won't even bid on it.

Hypocrisy
June 12, 2022

Employment unwise, they usually hire second chance employees (ex-cons) so they can mistreat them. They only hire desperate people, not qualified individuals who leave soon because of low pay. They don't discriminate against seniors because they rarely hire them. Ask any store what their employee turn-over rate is?

Shoppers, it's just a front for reselling other peoples donated junk at a higher price. A great place to get rid of outdated junk. Still, better deals are at estate sales & garage sales.

Most of the stores operate on the same level. Goodwill hypocrisy is notorious for enriching themselves and not spending the money to help the poor, the disabled, the homeless.

I am a collector of Vinyl Records and am well aware of what many records are worth. The Goodwill auction site is a sham as just about any viable record is selling for more than it's worth, no record collector that I know will pay 100% top dollar for a record that isn't even graded nor any description of the quality unless they are blind. I guarantee that items are being bid up by bots.

I buy Records on Ebay which has thousands of more viewers than Goodwill.com, the records are graded and sold by reputable sellers and they sell for allot less so what gives?

For one people donate items at a "thrift" store to be sold for fair value to customers in store! Donators are not expecting " Goodwill" to sell donated items on an auction site for more than retail... it's a disgusting practice for all items.

Theres a reason why your stores are dead because you send everything that's worth anything to auction. Meanwhile the local Savers down the road is always full of customers. Goodwill will be dead in 10 years.

I recently purchased what I thought was a pair of Keen men's hiking shoes from Shopgoodwill.com online auction. When the "leather" began tearing and disintegrtaing, it was clear that the "leather" was cheap synthetic. I called Keen, and they told me that this particular model of Keen hiking shoe was made with leather, not vinyl! The shoes are counterfeits! Goodwill sells phony products and passes them off as genuine. Shame on you Goodwill!
