*UPDATE* They did refund my money a day after I complained and disputed the charges on paypal. They didn't send me any useful update emails.
I sign up occasionally for a month at a time. This time though, I recieved an email that I would be charged for the next month on July 10th. So on July 9th I went in to cancel my account and found they had already extended my membership for next month and charged me. I sent them an email complaining and my next step will be to do a chargeback with my credit card, but they've obviously resorted to dirty practices by doing this. I won't be signing up again.

I tried the site for a couple weeks, but didn't find what I was looking for (Technical manuals for old Automation equipment) and when I thought I cancelled, I had not. You click Cancel, but you have to keep scrolling through a few more "Yes I am sure I want to Cancel" type screens before I was able to finalize. Thus my 'Free' trial which did not get me what I was searching for cost me $9. I'm just lucky I caught this on my list of Credit Card Charges before another month was charged.

On the 9th of June I started a free trial subscription, however, on the 1st of July I decided I do not want to keep using scribd and cancelled the subscription. However, I received a confirmation email, saying that 'Your Scribd membership has been cancelled effective August 08,2018.' But August 08 is two months after I started the free trial! I do not want to pay for this second month, since I cancelled the free subscription more than 24 hours before the start of the new period. I read a lot of reviews here about people who are charged after they deactivated their account. I hope scribd can cancel my account as soon as possible! I do not want to pay for an extra month! Paying would be a problem too, because recently I cancelled my credit card. I opened a ticket about this issue, but got no response yet. I hope they can ensure me that I will not be charged any money.

I paused my subscription to Scribd within free trail month (Ideally in pause condition you should not be charged), it notified that the account would be activated again on 7th August 2018. I have since then still been charged for their services! Scribd overdrew my account, ultimately my account was closed by the bank and I am being charged high penalty fees! I rarely use that bank account and got to know about it much later. Scribd do not even send a single email notification telling you that they have been billing your account. I am very careful about my subscriptions and paused their service while going outside the country. I haven't used their service and have cancelled the subscription today. They do not even have customer service representatives to attend calls of aggrieved customers! Terrible company, awful services. I would not recommend it to anyone. I have never been treated this disgracefully before. I have raised a dispute request with my bank against Scribd as I am not the one who should pay the penalty.

I gave Scribd a try by subscribing to their one-month membership trial. That wasn't bad but since I use my Kindle most of the time, so I decided to cancel the trial. They took me through a couple of steps, left me thinking that I was done. And guess what! I was charged in the next month. So I calmed me down, go to Account Setting to find that my membership is still activated. I tried to go through the cancellation again. And just like the last time, after a couple of steps, I thought it was done. But no mail, nor any notification! I started to freak out, I did it again, this time I just noticed that the cancellation just didn't end there (like most pages, you click Cancel, then you click Confirm, and you're done). Although the third page said something like they had acknowledged (We want to change or whatsoever), and below there was a tiny text, yeah, TEXT - NOT EVEN a BUTTON saying "Continue to cancel". What the hell? Okay then, take my $8.99 and you will never have me or any of my friends ever coming to your site ever ever again!

Looks like my voice was heard, and they offered me a refund after all. I can barely say that I changed my mind about their system, though. At least they tried to solve the problems that it created. And I appreciate their effort. Hope that they will make the cancellation process more transparent and user-friendly. Maybe I will be back.

I gave the website my credit card information for a free trial and am now unable to log in due to not knowing the password. But I was NEVER even asked to set a password and now I am unable to RESET my password so getting into my account is impossible. I haven't been charged yet, but if I am I will be FURIOUS, Please fix this issue and I will change the review to a 5, however as many other reviewers have noted, this reeks of scam.

I started a free trial but found that it didn't suit me. I cancelled on May 5 2018 but my account was billed on 31 May. This company charged my debit card without me ever having used or heard of this company. They charged my credit card for $8.99. I thought oh well maybe I got a free trial membership (even though this rings no bells) and therefore checked BOTH emails I use for these types of things and guess what... NO email/username records found. Additionally, they say they offer no refunds under any circumstances... how convenient... Rip people off for $8.99 and dont give refunds. Unbelievable. Im taking this action further... this is unacceptable.

I really liked the free trial but didn't think it was worth the money they charged when canceled the subscription[which they make dfficult to begin with] it still didnt work because they continuously charged me and i literally have no money in my card so i keep getting interest on top of it every single f*** month and they("customer support") make you go through a bunch of hurdles to try to cancel it and then they never get back to you. It showed the account was "inactive." How can you charge me for a service you did not perform? I sent them another request. No response! After reading your comments and reviews, I'm starting to wonder how many many people did they do this too? At this point I am seeking legal help. It may be chump change to others. But it's the principle. Can you imagine how many people went through this thinking its only $10. I will contact my credit card again. Anyways, I was charged twice for a service that was not performed.

Decided to turn to this website after several tickets on the Scribd website with no response still. I had a payment taken on the 23/5 through Paypal, my account still says I am a non member and can not continue to read any of the books I want to. Saw a charge from them on 6/9 (yesterday). Immediately checked my email to see if they had sent me anything as I don't check my email often. Found that someone had registered for an account and obviously had access to my credit card information and email. I am unsure if this is someone I know or don't know but regardless I was unaware of this and did NOT authorize this charge. I didn't even start this account and the worst part is I don't even know how to get into the account since I don't have the password. And I am now being charged for something I personally never even registered for or utilized and cannot even stop.

I see horror stories on this site and I'm really hoping I don't have to fight tooth and nail with this company but I will if I have to because this is not even right. I never once got an email indicating that I would even be charged which is what I went into my email to check.
