The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

Unlimited my butt. Someone needs to start a class action lawsuits for deceptive advertising practices. Calling the service unlimited and then removing access to every single decent audiobook because you listened to too many (by the way, four is not an unusually high volume) for the month. They won't even show you what's available once your month resets. Also, the month doesn't reset until two full days after the payment date. Absolute bull. Would probably be worth the money if they were honest about the limitations but they lie and act like they aren't scamming their clients and the authors who aren't getting read because Scribd doesn't want to pay them.
Scribd has a great library of ebooks and audiobooks, and also a wide selection of magazine titles. Granted, their document section is a bit of a jungle but I expect this is impossible to curate. I have never had any issues when I cancelled subscription, and now I don't even want to anymore. I read up to five books a month on Scribd so let me just say that the subscription is insanely value for money.
Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback! We're so glad you're reading with us here at Scribd! Please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team at [email protected] if you ever need assistance. Happy holidays, and happy reading! :)
They charged my account while sending me emails which claimed that I'm not subscribed yet. They made me think that I'd still be in the free trial and took money from me.
Hi Dennis, we'd like to look into this for you. Please email [email protected] and update this review with your ticket number so we can connect asap. Thanks!
Whenever I'm not sure if a site is trustworthy, I sign up with my PayPal account. All you have to do is call PayPal and they will cancel it for you... if the company won't. They will also contact the company for you and get your money back!
Hi Alyssa - We take a number of payment methods including Paypal, and you can learn more about this here https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134006. While you can cancel your Scribd membership from your Account Settings, our support team is always happy to help! If you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected]. Thanks!
Tried the free trial for a book I needed for research. When I can't view the book I decided to cancel but they decided to charge me for the next billing period. What would I do with this for an extra month if I can't view the book I need? And why charge people during their free trial? Some would say that it's a "pending charge" but no it states on my account that my trial was cancelled during at the end of my 30 day trial even though I cancelled before the 30 days. What a scam.
Hello Nata - Apologies for any confusion. Once your subscription is canceled, you will not be charged after that date. A member of our support team is more than happy to look into your recent charge and cancel any active subscription you may have. Please email us at [email protected], and we'll reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
Don't trust this company. Read about the reviews. It is SCAM> signed for a free trial and was charged at the end of 30 days EVEN THOUGH they promised 60 days and in my account, it is still showing 34 FREE DAYS LEFT. WORST COMPANY! Don't trust.
And I thought that for being American it would be a good choice. DON'T TRUST!
They don't answer any message on support

Tried cancelling but couldn't. As soon as they charged me, I was able to cancel the subscription. I am convinced that scribd intentionally did this so that they are able to charge me before i could cancel. Scribd is a scame!
Hi Mohammad - We're sorry to hear about the trouble you had canceling your subscription! We'd be more than happy to provide you with a refund for your recent charge. Please email us at [email protected], and a member of our team will reply shortly. Thank you!
To Scribd,
I am currently a student and I availed of your free trial but was charged for it! Afterwards I cancelled and I was charged again this month when it specifically says on my account that I cancelled my subscription. You are deliberately taking money from me without my consent.
Please know that as a student, I don't have enough funds to continue the subscription. Hence, the cancellation.
If you charge my membership after December 27,2019, I will be calling the card issuer to do a chargeback.
My ticket number is #*******.
Hi Ciara - To confirm, we cannot bill a canceled or deactivated subscription. Scribd also does not "sign up" or "start subscriptions" for our users without their consent. In order for someone to have an active subscription with us, the only way to do so would be for them to sign up when creating an account or restart/renew their membership from their Account Settings page. We apologize for any confusion there.
Upon review, it looks like our specialist Vanessa has followed up with you on your support ticket with more information. Your subscription has been canceled, you will not be billed further, and your recent charge has been refunded. Please allow 3-5 business days for these funds to be credited back to you. Thanks for reaching out, and have a great day!
I had a small issue which I got very irate about because i'm a Londonder and that's sort of our vibe but Ben was helpful, polite and kind to the point that I felt really bad - 10/10 customer service
Hey Franny - Glad to hear that our specialist Ben was able to assist you in resolving this! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again in the future - we're always happy to help. Thanks for your kind feedback, and have a wonderful day!
After I terminated my free trial, they brought my trial back and forcibly charged 9.99 dollars against my will.
Hi Theodore - Just to clarify, Scribd does not "sign up" or "start subscriptions" for our users without their consent. In order for someone to have an active subscription with us, the only way to do so would be for them to sign up when creating an account or restart/renew their membership from their Account Settings page. Please send us an email at [email protected] and update your review with your ticket number. Once this is done, we'll escalate your case and get this resolved ASAP. Thanks!
You get the free look. You cancel the free look during the free look period. They continue to charge your card till you catch them. They have a policy of not giving you back your money after 30 days. They must know most people after looking at all the titles see it's not for them and cancel during the free period. So they just have to steal from you to make there dishonest dollar.
Hi Robert - To confirm, when you cancel your subscription with us you will immediately receive a confirmation email of the cancellation to your primary email address on file. If you did not receive this confirmation email from us, then the subscription cancellation was not completed by you. We make this very clear in our cancellation guide, found here: https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134046-How-to-cancel-your-premium-membership
As always, if you need additional assistance, our support team is more than happy to help. If you haven't already, please email us at [email protected] and update your review with your ticket number. We can have someone follow-up with you right away. Thanks!
Scribd is a ripoff POS. There are other more cumbersome but free methods of getting these PDF's. Scrbid is an attempt to shut the public out of viewing docs, boycott them now. I'd give it 0 stars if possible!
Hi Ken, we're sorry to hear Scribd wasn't your best fit. Our team would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. You can always reach us at [email protected]. Thanks!
After reading this other articles I was worried that I was doomed with the charge that I had just incurred. But, after submitting a 'request' on the Scribd website I was refunded the full charge within 10 minutes. Given their... questionable cancellation practice, I was incredibly shocked by this. When I did use the account, it was definitely worth it to find books that otherwise weren't readily available. However, not enough selection to warrant the charge.
Hey Preeti - Thanks for your feedback! We're glad to hear that we were able to assist you in getting this resolved quickly. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again in the future if you need additional assistance. Thanks again, and have a great day!
So, a year ago (11/15/2018), I subscribed to the Scribd free membership trial. Then I signed the one-year membership and I used it during the year. Although I was not planning to renew the subscription, then today (11/15/2019) the site renewed it without any notification, I was not asked if I wanted to continue or informed just before this happened, that it was about to happen. There was no warning. I would have canceled my membership immediately before the amount could have been deducted from my account. The money has been deducted from my account without my explicit and express permission. Since I don't want to use Scribd services, that begins today (11/15/2019), I have spent a few hours trying to get a refund by contacting Scribd support, but every time I press the link on the page, I get a notification telling me that I must verify my account by activating the link Scribd has sent to my registered email account, which I will receive at most within ten minutes. I have pressed the resend button multiple times and gotten no link. I have not used Scribd's services in the past months and I don't want to use it anymore. So, please, I want my money back.
Hello Thiago - We apologize for any confusion here. Upon review, it looks like your case was resolved by one of our support specialists, Vanessa, in your support ticket #2398366. Your subscription has been canceled, you will not be billed further, and your recent charge was refunded back to your original payment method. Please allow 3-5 business days for your refund to process. Thanks for your patience and have a wonderful day!
I thought I cancelled it, but it looks like I did not.
The reason is that when I click on cancel membership, I am taken to the next page with no clear sign it isn't done. Even though there is no clear sign you need to scroll down to continue cancelling, it's still needed.
Why can't you be more honest about this process, detailing everything one needs to do, so nothing like this happens? I am sure I am not the only one with this problem, check out this article: https://the-digital-reader.com/2015/07/03/psa-have-you-cancelled-your-account-at-scribd-you-might-want-to-double-check-that/.
Hi Marian - To confirm, when you cancel your subscription with us you will immediately receive a confirmation email of the cancellation to your primary email address on file. I enrolled for scribd membership on 15th October. At the time of providing my card details, Scribd mentioned I can cancel my membership anytime during the free look-in period of one month.
Cancelled my membership about 10 days later and though that was the end of it. However, I got a message about 15 minus back that $8.99 has been charged to my card. Can Scribd explain why they give charged me despite my following their terms and conditions?
Hello Rangin - We apologize for any confusion here. Upon review, it looks like your case was resolved by one of our support specialists, Ben, in your support ticket #2396180. Your subscription has been canceled, you will not be billed further, and your recent charge was refunded back to your original payment method. Please allow 3-5 business days for your refund to process. Thanks for your patience and have a wonderful day!
I signed up for scribed when i was a sophomore in highschool 3 years later i decided to google my phone number and scribd popped up with not only my name and complete full address but also my credit card Bin number expiration month and year, and Cvv did i mention i was in the 10th grade with my full address on the worldwide web

Scam! They've charged me for 20 months after I cancelled my subscription! Looking for more people like me to put group lawsuit against them. Feel free to message me on Facebook (Pawel Pekala)
Hi Pawel - Just to clarify, Scribd does not "sign up" or "start subscriptions" for our users without their consent. In order for someone to have an active subscription with us, the only way to do so would be for them to sign up when creating an account or restart/renew their membership from their Account Settings page. Additionally, we do not charge our users for a canceled subscription. Upon review in our system, it looks like your case was already resolved by our support specialist Ben and you were refunded your recent charges. Please allow 3-5 business days for these funds to be credited back to you. Thanks so much!
I cancelled my account over 4 months ago and they continue to charge me. I am sick of this. I went online every month and cancelled it and it magically reappears. No customer service, you cannot call them to resolve these issues.
Hi Don, we're sorry to hear about this issue! While we don't offer phone support, you can reach out web-based team at [email protected]. Can you please email us the details and update this review to include your ticket number so that we can connect asap? Thanks!
So, a month or so ago, I subscribed for the Scribd free membership trial, thinking that I might need it. In the duration that I had my free trial, I looked up only one book for some research work I was doing. I was informed via notification when I signed up for the free trial, that I would be charged money if I continued with my account from 5 November onwards (when my free trial ended, and my first paid month began). I was sadly mistaken - Scribd, when compared to other sites, is utterly useless. Today is 5 November, 2019. I just got a message around an hour ago ago, saying that I have been charged INR 636.16 from my debit card, for the Scribd membership. I was not asked if I wanted to continue, or informed just before this happened, that it was about to happen. A warning beforehand would have been nice. I would have cancelled my membership immediately, before the amount could have been deducted from my account. My money has been deducted from my account without my explicit and express permission. Regardless, since I have not used Scribd services for the paid month that begins today, I have spent the majority of the past hour, trying to get a refund by contacting Scribd support, but every time I press the link to do so, I get a notification telling me that I must verify my account by activating the link Scribd has sent to my registered email account, which I will receive atmost within ten minutes. I have pressed the resend button multiple times, and gotten no link - and its clearly been more than ten minutes. I tried changing my email address thinking that that might work, but it has been to no avail. I still have not received the link. I have not used Scribd's services and I want my money back. I want it back immediately.
