I contacted Purple Bricks to sell my house. The agent I received was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and proactive. I highly recommend working with PB and will do it again with my next real estate transaction.
They don't market the house well they just sit and wait for buyers and in the NJ market that is not a way to sell a home. They also don't have a good infrastructure in NJ. Not enough staff to sell a house and I hate that I worked with them for six months and they didn't sell my house they messed up my front yard with their sign and they want me to pay them!
I will list my experience objectively so that readers can make up their own mind.
My property was on the market for 90 days with Purplebricks and had just 6 viewings. I believe that the low number of viewings was due to an over inflated price. Purplebrick's concierge team also phoned me and agreed and suggested lowering the price to spark interest. Sebastian Grayson, Local Property Expert, for Streatham, disagreed, despite 2 of the viewers saying that the property was overpriced, and insisted that I kept the property on at his evaluation.
More importantly I discovered that Sebastian and his team, who I had paid to do viewings, had blocked out my online calendar everyday of the week, except for Thursdays, at optimum times, making it difficult for people to view. I even had notes through the door from people requesting viewings, as they could not get through to the central office to book. I asked the central office to investigate but as the investigation was carried out by the Territory Owner, Daren Cridge, ie the franchise holder who Sebastian had bought his franchise from, I wasn't convinced that I received an impartial review. 'Sebastian has made mistakes and I have asked him to learn from these' He also offered me £150 compensation 'to end the matter' but if I accepted that would have prevented me from involving the property ombudsman, so I declined.
I withdrew my property from Purplebricks and instructed Jacksons of Streatham, who marketed the property at the same price for 4 days and showed 16 people around. They listened to the feedback and took on board that the price was too high. They then organised an Open Day, with the property on at an agreed reduced price and showed another 14 people around. Within 11 days they had shown a total of 36 people around my property and 3 offers came in. My house has now sold.
I leave the reader to make their own conclusions.
I live in a pricey suburb of Toronto. Purple Bricks (formerly Comfree) did not tell me that their listings do not show on the real estate board for my area. After 6 months and no offers I have canceled my listing. I am out 6 months of my time and $800. I really wanted Purple Bricks to be successful and even offered to pay a full buyers agent commission but nothing worked. Purple Bricks method might work for an entry priced home but it does NOT work for a home at a higher price. The staff were very nice but... the objective was to sell my home and that has not happened.
I had short pleasant experience with the company. Agents are knowledgeable and accommodating. They have convenient system for communication and prompt to get back to clients.
I bet all the negative reviews were real estate agents feeling threatened. No more large pay outs for doing little to no work.
This company falsely advertises that you don't pay a commission... when you clearly do. I don't understand how governing bodies that enforce ethical practices in advertising let them get away with this?
Scam company that charge a flat rate but doesn't provide any extra value or services that you would expect from this type of company. All they care about is the flat fee. This type of company doesn't provide any value in a tougher market
Sorry James, I can't seem to find your details in our database to show you have used our services! We provide full service at a fair rate, I am so sorry that you have been misinformed!
All commissions from any real estate co is negotiable no matter what they say. You are in charge. Never ever sign a contract to pay if your property does not sell. That is foolish. You decide the listing dates. 2 wks exclusive to see what they can do. 2 wks more with multiple brokers/agents. 2 wks more to see if they are showing and give you feedback. That's six weeks. If progress isn't make. Cancel. All this should be in a written contract or don't hire them. This gives you control and a way out without being at their mercy and holding you up for months.
Hello there, our customers pay at close of escrow!
They are the worst they only care about the company commission. They pay listing agent 1000. 00 that's it. They try to control the calls so the listing agent doesn't get the leads. The agents are lied too from the company so why would they put any effort in selling your house. Horrible company.
Seller beware of this company. First this company is new to California it is from England, so do your research before signing a six month contract with them that you cannot get out of. Secondly, the agents are not motivated to sell your house at all because they make a flat fee $3,600 whether they sell your house or not. That being said since they have no money incentive to sell your house they don't have to do anything but sit around and wait. Thirdly, this is what they do for you, take pictures of your property, place your property on the MLS, and have a couple of open houses where they sit around and do nothing. When they have open houses they get other customers that they then become agents for and sell them an alternative property not on a a Purple Bricks contract and that is how they probably make their money. The agents are basically in a nutshell not interested in selling your property, and in no way shape or form do they market your home, nor do they give you sound advice on how to possibly get your home sold.
So basically you are paying them for doing nothing and nothing is what you get. Also their customer service at corporate is just as bad. Plain and simple they are just not interested and not motivated. I would give them a ZERO if I could.
Hi Linda, I am so sorry but it appears you have been misinformed about how we work! I also cannot find your details in our database as either a customer of ours or as an agent who has shown or sold one of our listings! We would be more than happy to set the record straight, so please do get in touch!
For a full service realtor, I was very pleased with fees and agent. Our Agent with PurpleBricks, Kathy Bradford, was very professional and never left any loose ends. Communicating was always her priority and was always pleasant to speak with. I will use these people in the future.
Dennis B. Oak Park, CA.
Dennis thank you so much for your kind comments about Kathy and the Purplebricks Team! We would love to help you buy or sell another property in the future!
I had to sell my place and I used purple bricks and honestly. It made me feel like a moron. I wanted to kick myself. I had 2 deals fell through be the agent didn't know how to properly qualify the buyers. I had to fired them. I hired a local real estate broker at the traditional 6% (which I didn't want to do at first) however, I got it sold in 2 weeks and for above asking. I guess its true you get what you pay for. Don't use purple bricks unless you don't care about your biggest asset. It's clear most of the people feel the same here.
Dont know about the estate agent side of things but the soliciters are awfull only linked through a third party but could not be a simpler exchange taking ages no comunication feels like they doing it from home after tea
A very young real estate agent came to my home. She was very nice. I never received a call back from her to follow up. That was the first red flag. Secondarily I received a call from a director who left a message asking for my feedback. I called him back and texted and have never received a reply. That was the second red flag. All in all I would rate this experience very poorly. Their business model says they get paid whether they sell your house or not. The third red flag. I have also looked online to see other reviews and it all points to a very bad experience. I will look elsewhere.
This company doesn't have a clue how ESCROW works! They have two managers Brian and Jeannie who know NOTHING about Escrow or how to run an escrow company! The Agents are 90 percent GREEN no knowledge of real estate. They have no concept of how an escrow or real estate company works! They are a bunch of idiots with huge egos! They don't listen to people who do know the business. DONT USE THEM! THEY ARE HORRIBLE!
We have just removed our property from Purple Bricks and unfortunately it cost us £849 for basically nothing, other that hassle! We were constantly contacting to inform them that the board at the entrance to the cul-de-sac had fallen down. I feel that they don't have to sell your property as they get paid anyway! Would not recommend them at all.
Margaret
Unhappy customer!
No brick and mortar company, Agents are dispatched from a local pool and not reliable, they put your house up on 2 sites but don't offer traditional Real Estate Agent support, if you want that you have to pay extra, just go with your local Agent who knows the market and what they're doing. It could be the difference in selling your house or not. My property is still on the market for 9 months now, the sign purple bricks put on the house id hanging by one hook and they have not even come out to fix it. Stay away!
I saw the commercials about Purple Bricks and researched their website to learn more. It turned out that they did more to sell a house than the "traditional" agents that charge TOO much $$ in an era where the Internet brings most of the customers. I just can't understand how brokers try to justify high commissions. Well, I called Purple Bricks 1-800 number and made an appt. Who doesn't want to save money? They set me up with an appt with the area Realtor, Mel Stewart. He called me, found out my needs, and answered more of my selling questions. When we met, he was very prepared, timely, and professional. I truly believe that this company is the way of the present & the future. Anyone badmouthing them is probably agents who are worried that their high commission model is being threatened. Sorry traditional agents, I'm saving money AND selling my house on the MLS!
Thank you for your kind comments Michelle!
I had an appointment book with this company to start the ball rolling in selling our condo. We made and appointment and they sent me the realtor info and I even emailed the guy to let him know he would be meeting with my property mgmt. For the appointment. Well appointment day comes and goes, so my property mgmt. Calls this realtor, he's never heard of the appointment or the property. I called purplebricks to complain and alI got as we'll have to call you back. No one ever did and after getting nothing ut a ringing phone I gave up. Called again the next day and got the same excuse we'll will call you back after we sort out what happened, nothing!
Answer: Offer Assist doesn't cost anything extra. It's included in the flat fee. I just sold my house through PurpleBricks and Assistance to the selling process was excellent.
Answer: They would show your listings because you put down in the listing you are offering a percentage to the agent who sells it. In my case I offered 2 percent which is more than fair, but I saved on the listing fee because I did it myself through Purple Bricks. Agents want both listing and selling and some only list and make up to 2.5 percent of sales a lot of money on a million dollar home for doing basically nothing. That is why a lot of agents stay away from Purple Bricks and others like it, you are taking away their cash cow.
Answer: Yes, but you'll have to pay Purplebricks $1500 to get out of the contract. I'm trying to do this right now. They are extortionist.
Save thousands when you sell. A faster process when you buy. Avoid real misery. Purplebricks is a refreshingly simple platform that's transforming real estate.

Thank you for the support Mike! We believe in charging a fair fee and providing a wonderful experience!
