PetFinder Reviews Summary

The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

Worst experience ever! From SOCA -FBC out of Rosenberg Texas. A Kelly Davis-adoption coordinator, said that our application was approved, called our references and said that the foster mom would call on Sunday. I waited all day long with no call. I emailed Kelly twice and she never emailed me back! Do not go through SOCA OF TEXAS. They are terrible people. The foster mom's want to keep the dogs for themselves and not have to pay the adoption fee which is typically $500.00. GO TO YOUR LOCAL SHELTER AND GET A DOG FROM THEM NEAR YOUR HOME. DON'T GO THROUGH PETFINDER! ESPECIALLY SOCA FBC OUT OF ROSENBERG TEXAS! PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF HEARTACHE!

To hard to adopt
October 31, 2019

Been trying to adopt a small female since April 2019. Filled out numerous applications, all but one was approved because I misplaced my vet bill from this year. I did however send pics of rabies tags and heart worm meds. I even spent $5000. 00 to have my yard fenced in. My husband and I are retired, we dont like to take vacations. My pets (3) sleep on my bed, all up to date on shots and exams.
These rescues are worthless and the applications are tedious.
My worst experience was with Rosie's rescue in Ravenna ohio.
I give up!

No contact
October 26, 2019

I tried to contact them about a cat, but they simply didn't respond. It's a hard-to-adopt animal, and I see it's still up for adoption, but what am I supposed to do if they don't answer? The poor kitty will probably get put down instead of going to a loving home.

Unacceptable
September 20, 2019

Tried to contact Petfinder a month ago on adopting two cats. Sent several emails over this time. Only got a auto reply saying someone would contact me that week. No one responded. I looked further to try to find out where they were at. I emailed that company. Couple weeks passed and come to find out, they said that they are not getting emails from Petfinder on adoption requests, only spam. This is a very poor site. Don't be surprised if you go through same run around. It's awful, that the poor pets could be in their new homes if this site was doing it's job.

TRIED TO ADOPT
August 22, 2019

READ THIS BEFORE CONTACTING CANINE CUTIES----BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE---If your considering a new pet.DO NOT CONSIDER THIS LADY! She will jack you around for weeks. I have 36 years experience with Pit bulls. Unfortunately I had to put one down.He was over 15 years old. I emailed this Lady about a dog i saw on petfinders. Com. She said the dog was available. But refused to answer emails. When she did answer i provided her with pictures and a full history of my 36 years experience with the Breed. THAT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!.(SHE REFUSED TO LET ME MEET THE DOG)She wasted a week of my time and 20 emails back and forth. THEN SENDS ME A MICKEY MOUSE APPLICATION. A bunch of ridiculous questions-Where will the dog live, how you will discipline it, who is your vet, will you use it as guard dog, will you walk the dog-BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA Its like REALLY Im 55 had pitbulls for 36 years all lived past 13 YEARS -LIKE WHAT DO YOU WANT MY BLOOD! I can get a dog ANYWHERE-I bought all my dogs in the past-Everyone tells you to help out a dog by adopting or Rescue. I drove out to this place of Business to find NO BUSINESS JUST A FANCY HOUSE (GO FIGURE) She never got to the adoption fee? OH AND AFTER THE APPLICATION THERES A LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT! SHE WANTS YOU TO AGREE TO SIGN IN HER APP. REALLY I SIGN NOTHING UNTIL I READ IT! Have my Attorney read it. ALLLL THIS CRAP TO HELP A HOMELESS DOGGGGG! THIS IS ALL BULLLLLLLLL SH... SHE HAS REALLY RUINED MY EXCITEMENT OF A NEW PET! HOW DISAPPOINTING THIS LADY AND HER BUSINESS CANINE CUTIES IS! SHE WILL ONLY ADD TO YOUR UPSET OF LOSING YOUR PET!

Past home inspection, past reference checks, dog came for visit we liked him and he like us.
Now the CONTRACT!
You NEVER actually own the pet. The "rescue " holds ownership forever.
Mind you are responsible for all vet, food, toys etc.
If the animal needed extremely expensive vet treatment or developed a horrible disease.
You are expected to spare no expense or they will a: take away the dog and charge you a fine of $5000.!
Some want to be able to visit at anytime after you adopt if they find anything not to their liking they will take the animal or you pay a fine!
This is all actually in the contract!
YOU will never actually have ownership of your pet!
They don't give a crap about the animals it is all about the $$$.
Would you put your heart and soul and lots of $$ into an animal that they can take away for what seems like anything they deem unsuitable?
Pets are for a lifetime, that is what we want.
No wonder those poor animals are on there for months and years.!
Can dO rescue referred to a previous "adopter" as a bitc $,!
Took photos without my permission.
Said all references they talk too are liars.
Asked my reference personal questions about my health. (questions that NOTHING remotely required for pet adoptions.
When we said in good conscience we could not sign that contract (clauses not in original documents sent)
She yanked that poor dog away from my husband shouted " then he is not staying" and stormed out the door.
Stay away from Chatham Kent rescue, I will buy a dog now, where I know all my live, attention and $$ will go to MY pet, not some "rent a dog" bullcrap

Fraudulent Site
July 15, 2019

My husband and I just happened to be scrolling through the site looking at beagle puppies. We breed AKC registered beagles I just wanted to look at other sites curiosity. As we were scrolling through their site unbeknownst us we found a
2 year old photo of one of our dogs from when he was a puppy posted by one of their "breeders" needless to say the photo had been stolen from my Facebook page and our 2 year old dog was being posted by a fraudulent breeder as being for sale as an 8 week old puppy. My husband and I have never done business with this particular site we only use AKC we just wanted to look and to our surprise we found a photo of our own dog being posted so I say buyer beware do not trust this site because they do not care about those of you looking for a furry family member to add all they care about is making money from their breeders and they will not look out for you as a buyer.

First, Petfinder doesn't monitor those who post. When you complete and submit an application to adopt, most of the time you never hear from anyone - even after several attempts to reach them. Second, after submitting your application (and never hearing from anyone I might add), Petfinder keeps sending emails asking if you've adopted that particular animal. They give you several choices: No, Not Yet, Yes, etc. I haven't been able to reach Petfinder. It's not my application, home visit or vet reviews (they're excellent). We have decent jobs and are responsible adults well able to provide a safe/secure home for any pet. So why don't those who post respond? I know how folks feel about puppy mills and pet stores, but that's where we'll be getting our next pet. TIP: If you want to drive potential worthy adopters away, keep doing what you're doing! On the other hand if you want people to adopt the many, many pets featured on your website, then start taking responsibility for the lackadaisical way you run your business! I've heard people say it's too much trouble to rescue - they often add that rescues are stricter than going to the pet store! We have the best intentions when we visit sites like Petfinder and we have experience with special needs animals. Unfortunately, many fosters and those who post have their own agendas. Not a fan.

Spent 5 hours looking for a dog that would suit us... young, child friendly etc... read the details and history of so many dogs.
Found a little guy who sounded perfect and sent an email with initial questions.
Never heard back.
No wonder so many pets are in need of adoption... admin narrative process is total $#*!e.
Guess we will go to a breeder. So much for trying to save a poor pup from having no home or family... you guys are awful.

Adopting a pet through Petfinder is a very frustrating experience. No adoption organizations will respond to questions unless you submit an application to adopt the pet first. Even then, they will not respond to questions about the pet. I was contacted by one organization by phone, the purpose being to interview me to assess my acceptability to adopt the dog. The woman who interviewed me knew nothing about the dog (characteristics, where she was being fostered) and could not answer any of my questions. I was told that I would be the "perfect person" to adopt the pet and that I would soon be contacted for a home visit. The person who emailed to arrange the hoe visit also knew nothing about the specific pet. I had to wait a whole week for her to be able to do the home visit, but by then the dog was adopted by someone else. No one involved in assessing my fitness for adoption had ever met the dog, and yet they claimed that they aimed to find a mutually good fit between adopter and adoptee. The process is slow, biased, confusing, and apparently has nothing to really do with finding a good home for homeless animals.

The way this works (or doesn't) is sad. Very sad. No one gets back to you except the bot email asking "did you adopt fluffy?"
Hell no I didn't. He didn't exist. Then next month he popped up again. No wait. He was adopted. What? You never heard of him? Oh wait. There he is again. What in God's name goes on with this? Run forest... run... buy a dog. It's easier and more humane. Go to a shelter. Do anything except waste time with what appears to be "puppy pumps".

Waste of time
April 20, 2019

They are the reason more people don't adopt, clearly they don't want people to. After spending a long time searching, filling out applications, and emailing foster owners, I finally got a chance to meet some of the litters of puppies. I would drive for up to 3 hours to see them hoping to take one home, just to be told I have to fill out more applications. Never got a call or email like they promised me. I made sure I met every one of their ridiculous criteria and still nothing. I know they want the dogs to go to good homes, I grew up with dogs all my life. They use terrible "rescues" that make it impossible. No wonder so many people go to breeders.

Spent over 3 months tying to adopt a dog, no follow up on your application, no humans to speak to just automated e-mail. All they are doing is slowing down the Process, and pissing people off, causing more dogs to be killed, in the name of helping animals, idiots! Won't get my money! $#*!s!

The website slow and you just give up. Hard to adopt a dog on here. Lol probably easier to adopt a human. Takes forever to get a response back. Then they play God on who can adopt. I am a responsible pet owner. Just because I buy my heartworm meds from Canada. I just quit on here. I just went to local shelters.

Filled out multiple adoption applications with responses that only confused me, and we're not for the animal I had chosen. One of pet finders decision makers, Karen hasn't a live brain cell left in her head. Perhaps she just needs to have her anal glands expressed!
