The company has garnered significant criticism regarding its customer service and operational effectiveness. Common concerns include a lack of responsiveness from rescue organizations, frustrating website functionality, and perceived biases against quality breeders. Many customers reported unsuccessful attempts to adopt pets, often receiving no replies to their inquiries. While some users acknowledged the platform's role in facilitating pet adoption, the overarching sentiment reflects disappointment in the service's reliability and engagement. This feedback suggests a pressing need for improvements in communication, website usability, and support for both adopters and responsible breeders.

Ive reached out multiple times about adopting some of these cute doggos but they always respond with the same BS copy and paste response. They dont answer questions and its been 2 weeks and still haven't heard anything back. Go figure both doggos are still there. Until they get some competent people i dont see things getting any better. Im 30 with a huge fenced in back yard, ive had animals my whole life, and i work from home. Perfect scenario for some new furry best friends but..
Don't waste your time. I literally applied or inquired about 60 dogs and not one of the shelters or contacts EVER replied to me. They sent me "available" dogs and I went to the site the second I got the email only to see that the dog wasn't available.
Petfinder is a wonderful data base if you are looking to adopt however be very careful about some of the organization that post on petfinder. I had a horrible Experience with the organization animal rescue force which is located in New Jersey. I spoke with a women name Susan who was NOT upfront and honest and became defensive when called on a policy that she made up. It was very sad to witness this because I really wanted to support the organization and also be able to bring home a forever pet that would be apart of my family and be loved and well taken care of! My advise to anyone who is on petfinder make sure you look into the organization and what they stand for before you even fill out an application or send an email of interest!
Spent the last couple months trying to adopt a dog. I've been a pet owner my entire life. I've filled out at least 20 applications to several different shelters and rescues through this website. Out of all these places I've had one rescue check 2 of my references and no one every called my Vet's office. Many of these animals are still on the website. Shame on this website and the shelters and the rescues! If these animals are real they are not being placed in good homes! Why? Thinking about dealing with a breeder. What a disgrace!
We had to put our dog to sleep in February and because we r older we wanted to get a rescue dog who was older. We love dogs and have had 5 terrier type dogs. Someone is always home and we have a fenced in yard. We gave the vet as a reference which would show that we took great care of our dogs. We submitted an application with the 5 dollar fee for one of the dogs on Petfinder. We never heard a word from them one way or another as to whether we could adopt the dog. It was a complete waste of time and I would never bother dealing with these people
They told me that the dog that I wanted and payed application fee was adopted and after a week he was still on line to be adopted. I believe they make money with this adaption application fee and please avoid them.
You can contact them, fill out paperwork, send multiple emails, but you will never hear back. They don't care about finding good homes for the animals.
Now, if you want to donate money, that's a different story.
Don't waste your time on these phonies. Go out yourselves to the shelters instead.
Attempting to get a pet on this site or any other by email is just a waste of time and emotion! Tryed to find a cat or 2 and nothing would ever "pan-out". By the time someone actually contacts you back by email Only, they claim that pets already been adopted. No personal one on one here... like I was trying to adopt a human infant and that's probably easier. NO to this site or any similar like Adopt A Pet
The site shows animals that are not matched based on your criteria, and shows animals that are out of date.
Think about it seriously for months, consider all options, prepare emotionally and household needs of a wonderful new family member in the form of a sweet doggy! Search PetFinder for the perfect candidate. Send application with high hopes. NOTHING! Wait a little longer... NOTHING! Send follow up email to "*******@rescueeverydog" where our "perfect" choice is supposedly being fostered... NOTHING! Forget it. A complete fraud. No time for this type of BS. Off to the local shelters.
Been trying to adopt and been contacting various "foster" places. This seems like scam as no one ever responds. This site should be shut down.
You can spend a lot of time looking at possible pets, reaching out to adopt and having super stupid exchanges with people who really don't want to have their foster dog adopted. I gave up after investing a stupid amount of time trying to adopt through them. I am back to the shelter - where you can actually take a dog home. If it was truly tinder - it might be more fun!
I thought that I used this website and they stole over R10 000 from me, but it was for a website called Kittenfinder.com. The "owner" sent me a pic of her but it was stolen because the real person wasn't selling pets. They said we had to pay for a high altitude carrier and would be refunded. Please don't use kittenfinder.com. It is dangerous. As for petfinder, I'm not sure, never used it.
I was a match for a dog, Ollie, and I completed the 3 page application process. I wanted to adopt the same day but was written an email in all caps that IT WAS NOT done that way. After several follow up emails, I was NOT approved. This abused, 3 legged-dog would have had the best life with us and now nothing.
They never respond
Horrible experience
I called over and over and over I saw a dog I loved you cant email no communication
My family spent days, if not weeks searching for a dog that would suit our family. We spent time placing inquiries, providing info on our family and asking questions on the posted animals. Crickets, not one response. Finally, we realized we had to place applications to even get these people to speak to us. Once we did get a response (1 out of 7) the organization came up with every reason to not even let us meet the animals. It's a site for rescues seeking donations. I've researched many of the rescues in my area listed on this site. Sadly, most have lost sight of the goal here-placing rescues in loving forever homes. Placing unrealistic barriers, high costs, and excuses of why you are not the one has exasperated the homeless animal crisis in our country. If rescues are holding these animals for extended periods of time or find excuses for you not to meet, move on. This is what you find on Petfinder.
The woman at welcome home dog rescue "Debbie". Was a typical dog hoarder. And elitist. She had no intention of ever letting us adopt the dog she had advertised. I put it multiple requests for various dogs. As other reviewers have said these people only want money. Or possibly they want control over your life. They want to examine your yard. They wanna know how much of a vet bill you could afford. They wanna know how long the dog will be alone everyday. They don't wanna find a good home for a dog. They want to judge you. DON'T BOTHER. GO TO A SHELTER. That's where I'm going
We waited a long to time to get another dog. When we were ready we decided on a rescue. I understand that the website is only a vehicle for 'rescues' to share information about available pets. We had applied for multiple dogs, spent tons of time applying, rarely ever heard back from some of the sites. Some of the 'rescue sites' had terrible reviews too. Made for a lot of hoop jumping, hopes up only to be let down, poor communication. Has to be a better way to give a pet a home!
Don't waste your time and go to a shelter. Choose one of your options. No reply. Only want a donation.
The one that actually replied refused to let it adopt because it drawers money at events. Seriously? They would rather have the dog spend its life in a cage over money. It's websites liable these that make me prefer breeders.
Answer: Not sure if Petfinders does this but AdoptaPet.com does.
Answer: They may be a legitimate site but they make it extremely difficult to use and arbitrarily refuse to allow you to use their platform. We started the process to list our foster rescues and it was so horrible that we looked up their reviews. We read many reviews of rescues that were taken down without warning or any reason. They use their staple response of: "We have determined that your group is not eligible for Petfinder membership at this time. Our Terms of Service state that eligibility for membership is determined at the sole discretion of Petfinder."
Answer: The only answer you will ever get is "contact the place/person you got the animal from or who has the animal". NOTHING ELSE.
