The company's reputation is significantly marred by pervasive customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from service delays, ineffective communication, and technical issues with their online systems. Customers frequently report frustrations with prescription management, including unfulfilled orders and lack of timely updates. While some customers acknowledge the efforts of individual representatives, the overall service experience is characterized as disorganized and unresponsive. This disconnect between customer needs and service delivery has led to a growing sentiment of frustration and distrust, prompting many to seek alternatives despite being tethered to this provider through employer mandates.

I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a Blood Clot in my leg
The ER DR sent in a script to a local pharmacy -
I was told that I can only use WALGREENS which is 20+ miles from my house ( this is a must have med)
OptumRX denied the Script at the local pharmacy - on several accounts, 1 not a Walgreens, 2, the script read 4 tablets a day they would only cover 2 - so denied
So now I have to chase down DR to change the script to accommodate this COMPANY that I pay $$$ to eery month
SO when did the Insurance company play GOD over the DR advise...
So now they want me to go to Walgreens and get it done OR go thru the mail order service that takes days to get to me --- so the blood thinner medicine that can potential save my life is now being delayed
This is the worst pharma firm -- if I had any other choices i would not use them ever
Could you please hire people that speak English. And stop outsourcing to India.
It makes it very hard, to speak and have them understand. So I or other members don't have to repeat our self 5 or 6 times, and then get so fed up. And just hang up...
Optum rx could care less about customer service or anything else for that matter. I have yet to receive a shipment on time. These guys are giving the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. How is this even legal! When you dial the number for the pharmacy they ask if you would like to participate in a survey after the call. I'm sitting here right now on hold with them. It's kind of hard to end the call when they don't even answer it. This is absolutely ridiculous!
They don't cover so many of my medicines. You pay $500 on a generic medication that previously cost $10 on BCBS, that now requires prior authorization from a doctor because its not the first medication on the 'step therapy' ladder, even though the two medications are completely different. I will honestly start looking at my health insurance policy before deciding on accepting a job offer from now on.
I have 5 medications that the prescribing physicians have faxed/called Optum Rx multiple times along with me speaking with Optum Rx weekly and sometimes several times each week to get the prescriptions correct, the prescribing physician and contact info and each time Optum Rx assures me it will be updated and taken care of. Wrong! If I was not taking anxiety meds before, I will be taking it soon after dealing with this company! Very disappointed and will change to local pharmacy soon!
After calling to check my medication order and make a payment. They made an unauthorized withdrawal from my debit card.
It's been 4 days of lies, being hung up on, and transferred from one person to another. With no help in sight on getting my funds replaced.
It's hard to believe that a drug provider can be 'out-of-stock'. My guess is it is more likely they are holding off buying while trying to re-negotiate their cost from a manufacturer in order to get a better profit margin to pay for the unusually high number of vice-presidents they employ. A despicable company practicing business policies that places profits above customers.
Optum RX is by far the worse pharmacy I have ever experienced in my life. I was placed on hold for 40 minutes and then hung up on me. I called back they still never resolved my issues on hold for pharmacist fir 38 minutes and then again hung up. I am changing pharmacies
I can't believe we are forced to use a mail order pharmacy for medication and a company takes weeks to effectively fill a medication. I called and complained with NO RESPONSE or care. When there is a monopoly with pharmacies they don't care to return calls because they know they OWN the business so happy customers don't
Matter. Our government needs to change! We should have a choice and be able to go to our own pharmacy and get the medication needed. Not deal with incompetence causing delays to medication and causing exacerbation of
Symptoms. Makes NO SENSE!
Forced to use optum for specialty med. I am a RN who used to help people get specialty meds. If they had Optum I would set aside enough time to deal with a mess.
Then. I get a notice a couple yrs ago that my own Ins plan will use them. I felt I knew their crap, could navigate it for myself. Wrong.
EVERY MONTH … EVERY MONTH it is like I am a new patient. I heard one guy banging on a keyboard like it was a old IBM dragged in from the garage. He kept saying out loud the keys, "enter" "tab" "space"
Then I heard "bye daddy!" Then a TV in the background. He said gleefully "It went through!" Well it didn't. I have NO idea what he did, I spent 30 mins w him. They had no record of my call, but I tape my calls. They don't want to hear it.,
I get a text to refill, click on the link and order. 100% of the time it doesn't work even tho it says it's being processed. So I have to call which is more anxiety than I can take.
I have pushed and pushed, did get someone that seemed to know what's happening & she said she would personally order my med for me each mo. Nice gesture, but that was a lie too. The only thing anyone seems to be trained in is how to lie, smoke and mirrors, and fake "I'm sorry " over and over.
NEGATIVE 5 STARS!
So I haven't been able to re-order some of my medications as of late because for some reason only half of them are shown on their website. So I called them today and got the most disrespectful POS I have ever spoken to in my life who picks up the line by saying, "Can you hear me clearly?" Yes. Then he says nothing. So I wait. Again, "Can you hear me clearly?" YES! Can YOU hear ME clearly?! He responds yes. Great, can you help me now?! He asks how he can help me and I tell him that when I log into the Optumrx app it only shows half my medications and I need to order the ones I can't see. So he tells me to go to Optumrx.com and scroll to the bottom where it says, forgot username or password. DUDE! I tell him in an irritated tone that I didn't forget my login info, I told him my medications are not properly listed. You know what this F$&@ER says to me?! "If you were logged into the correct account, you would see the correct medications." So again I ask. How the F$&@ is this company still a thing?! They F$&@ so much sh*t up on a daily basis I talk to them more then my husband! I spend so much time fixing their mistakes that I'm missing out on my kid's childhood. They never FIX their F$&@ ups either, a real stand up company. No standards whatsoever. A real sh*t show.
I switched my plan to United Health Care. Their mail order Rx service is OptumRx. Following their recommendation, I checked prices and Optum Rx was best for 90 day supplies of medication. I contacted Optum and my primary physician, set up the account with Optum and waited for delivery. The text I received from Optum stated that my primary care physician has not responded. I called and found out that my request to my PCP was approved and moved to Optum that same day. Bottom line, hours of phone time with OptumRx and my PCP over the same issue, nothing resolved, no refills, same questions on every call with Optum. My conclusion is that their mail order service is fraudulent, not customer oriented, unprofessional and should not be licensed by any regulating entity to do business. Two weeks and it is like trying to teach a pig to dance. The teacher looses patience and the pig is frustrated. Avoid the aggravation and choose another Rx provider even if it may cost you more. It will be worth it in the long term.
For more than one year, this company tried to exhort more than 500.00 from us for what they called "supplies." It is a well guarded secret that Optum is a subsidiary of United Healthcare, which happens to be our secondary health insurance provider for years. Their own employees do not know what this company is or what their services are. If you have a question your only recourse is to call their off shore agents, who are untrained and unable to answer questions unless the answers are in their scripts. They refuse to submit their charges to Medicare claiming they are "not covered"
When they are. If you refuse to pay, they harass you with robo calls and threaten you with collection proceedings. During one of my conversations I actually heard a rooster crowing in the background. When I asked the representative where she was located she advised me that because of "se contacted there security regulations" she could not tell me. They constantly promise a return call, which never materializes. Their claim that we owed over 500.00 in "supplies" was actually for plastic gloves, alcohol wipes, and syringes, all of which could be purchased at any neighborhood drugstore for a few dollars. This was a definite money grab attempt by a hidden off shore office that is actually a subsidiary of United Healthcare Group.
Once I discovered this company was part of UH, I contacted their CEO, Dirk McMahon via email. From there, members of UHcare contacted me and within a few weeks, I was able to end this year long nightmare. If you feel you are being cheated by these people, do your research and don't give up.
Be sure to get everything confirmed IN WRITING.
My insurance company contracted with Optum RX to handle the prescription drug plan and it is a complete S%$#show. Call 5 times and get 5 different answers. One of my prescriptions requires that it be refrigerated and yet they require that it be shipped here to Phoenix, AZ where it's often 115 in the summer. Let's see how this makes any sense, 3 month supply@ approx $900/mo for a grand total of $2700 for my medication. Even though they ship it overnight in a "cold pack", unless you're home right when it arrives, the medication goes bad because it sits in the heat for hours before you can get home to bring it it and never mind the damned "porch pirates" that steal it too. Oh and when it goes bad due to their ignorant shipping requirement, they don't replace it because it's your fault not theirs! When calling customer service, it's a joke and once again everything is pushed back on you... the customer! Customer service representatives also push their corporate dogma and it makes my blood boil. All in all, horrible experience and would give them a negative 5 if I could!
This company is the worst. Have to use specialty pharmacy but this company can NEVER get an order right. After 3 calls to get 2 RX together only 1 came today with NO PAPER WORK no receipt no instructions from manufacturers on shape & description of medication. This drug has changed manufacturers numerous times so papers saying what I have received is important. Call and everyone speaks in slow motion as no hurry & WHO CARES. This is little problem, they've lost my orders & posted my payment to a zero balance account while sending multiple collection letters that took 2 weeks to correct! Why are they still in business. I can't show proof of purchase as no receipt was sent either
Poor customer service, trying to deny you your medication. It should be against the law for your insurance company to mandate you use this horrible mail in pharmacy.
I had to go through their specialty pharmacy and have been waiting 5 weeks to get my med. I RELY ON THIS MED TO FUNCTION IN LIFE. No one cares when you call, they refuse to do any trouble shooting on the delay, they wont call me or my insurance company or doctors office. They are rude and flippant about my pleas. One woman suggested "if you need it so badly you could pay full price" which is 14,000 dollars without insurance for 1 month, no joke. I hate this company with all my being
Everytime I need to get rx thru optium (only pharmacy my health insurance allows me to use) I have such a hard time never recieve get told multiple reasons for problem depending which supervisor you talk too! Spend 45 min to hour on phone trying to get a simple rx that they never ship or fill! You should be ashamed of your company! Theses are medications people need! Disgusting on all levels! I'm going to find out who over sees the pharmacy in the United States and fill a official complaint!
I have a specialty med that is ONLY fillable through OptumRX, and its one that I'm never supposed to miss doses on or it harms my liver/kidneys. Not only does both their site and app NEVER work, but I can never get through on the phone and have had to miss doses too many times. They are killing people with their incompetence.
Their idea of customer service is for the customer to contact them with the problem and leave a call back number and/or email so Optum can contact you, if they do. The people on the phone will tell you completely different things than you are told in emails, so who do you believe? They had been accepting and applying my manufacturer's co-pay card and then they stopped and charged me. I never received any notice! I contacted them and was told 2 different times THEY made an error by not applying it and a refund was being processed. It never happened - big shock with this company that almost seems to have attended a Bookcooking seminar hosted by Ken Ley of Enron. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Poor service if you get service and then don't believe a word they say.
Can I register a Zero for stars?
Answer: They are a legitimate pharmacy benefits manager for United Healthcare, but their prices and practices leave alot to be desired.
Answer: Don't hold your breath - they are all about money - not customer service
Answer: You can send them a message on their website which they won't even read for days, so it's a useless feature. You can also call them at 1 (800) 356-3477 and sit on hold for 10 minutes before getting a person to talk to. In my experience, calling them has never resolved whatever issue I'm calling about, but you can talk to someone.
Answer: Only bad part of this united plan. Optum is worse than poor. They misplace Rx's and then lie
