What i find useful
Neighborhood news: stores opening, closing, development updates, scams, behavior to be alert to
What I don't find useful:
Endless trails of comments on an issue, e.g. the bernal hill neighbors and their fence, where people don't read the entire thread; snarky comments are shot back and forth: lots of heat and very little light
I enjoy the information I receive on Nextdoor. It is a great communication site. I do not have any suggestions for any improvement.
I first joined in because lost dog tracking was my biggest concern. Later, it seemed a very good vehicle to inform people about a book sale by my library friends group. It serves as a crime watch resource while others use it to vent on issues they feel strongly about. It is a vast network with a neighborhood perspective.
I just love everything about the Nextdoor app because it shares a lot of information. It connects me with other people and we have the opportunity to ask, share and update each other on different things.
Really like the hyper local element. Nice to easily get recommendations, and also nice to see neighbors helping one another.
I have been very pleased with Nextdoor. It is very good for all types of information. If you need help, post it and you will probably get help. Ask a question and you will most likely get an answer. The answer may not always be right, but someone will give an answer with several other replies pointing you in the right direction. Love being a member.
I like the site get a lot of junk also but some good stuff too. Would like more people in my neighborhood to be involved
For the most part it's a great way to interact and communicate with other NP residents and businesses. I wish we could read ALL of North Park posts in addition to our individual little neighborhood. I would like to see that change. Some posters really get intense in their opinions and resort to volatile outbursts and that gets to be a little much, but I can block them so I don't see it, so that's good. All in all, my experience has been good.
The Nextdoor site and app is helpful in learning what's going on in my neighborhood. It's nice to be able to filter which posts you want to receive and if I don't want to read something I just simply delete the notification
I've thoroughly enjoyed using Nextdoor. I've bought stuff, given away free stuff, stayed informed about town events, and exchanged ideas with neighbors. Unfortunately, after moving from the Pottersville section to the Americana Terrace section, my husband updated his address and now he can't get updates from other parts of our community- just Americana Terrace. We can't figure out how to fix this! Please help.
Mostly a great experience with neighbors helping neighbors. A few that get judgmental or too passionate in their responses to each other. Would be nice to have a polite warning to stop it before feelings get out of control
I have a cleaning business and I also am involved in Stream Energy and Wireless. I have my names on the business page and have received quite a few requests forcleaning and a few for my energy business. I think its a great site for that as well as all the other things neighbors post. We belong to a network group and have shown the group how to use the site. I also like the fact that its your neighboring areas and you get recommendations and can give them to help out others.
To many political discussions which always turn into a huge argument not a debate. The topics should not include politics as we all
Know it is a set up for disaster.
People are rude, hateful, judgemental
And plain mean.
I only look at the stuff for sale now.
I can no longer engage with Thea conversation. Nextdoor used to be fun.
I appreciate notes about lost animals and possible crime but not politics. Also people helping people and providing advice on certain situations is valuable.
Nextdoor helps me keep up with what's going on in my neighborhood. I also appreciate the service recommendations.
The pros of Nextdoor are: great for info on neighborhood events, crime, lost pets, seeking recommendations, seeking help, listing items for free or for sale and general 'stuff'.
The cons of Nextdoor are: becoming a platform for debate regarding all manner of issues with posts sometimes being quite negative and judgmental in nature.
I realize this is an open forum, which allows any of us to exercise our right of free speech. Just find it frustrating at times and don't believe it is the purpose or spirit of Nextdoor.
I find most posts I read and/or contribute to informative and interesting and quickly leave those that have picked up people who clearly just want to argue with someone. I love being able to share plants with my neighbors when I thin my garden; sell things in good condition that we longer use and give away other things. I've actually made friends through Nextdoor and would miss it if it went away!
Too many repetitive stories as content on the site. Needing to have a minimum of 100 characters explains the problem precisely. R
Overall I have had a very favorable experience with Next-door from recommendations for various and sundry services to awareness of neighborhood crimes and items for sale. What I dislike are the people who tear down others for voicing their opinion on certain subjects -- Tree of Life shootings and Giant Eagle reconfiguration at Penn and Shady. I have felt the need to mute certain individuals for their remarks which are uncalled for and downright hateful. I believe that in person these types of exchanges would not occur but hiding behind a keyboard makes it ok. That is the only downside to Next-door that I have perceived.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
