Nice to have a site that only deals with local issues whether they be good or not so good. I also enjoy the local contacts that come across the website.
Nextdoor is a good way to ask others in the community for home repair/tradesmen recommends. If there is a neighborhood problem or recurring crime going on, information can be passed along. If your looking for a good restaurant or want to warn others of a problem you had at a restaurant, the Nextdoor app is a great way to do that.
Nextdoor is like facebook for a neighborhood and is as useful as the members make it. Where I live Nextdoor it is an important resource & connects us to about 10,000 people who live in & around our much smaller neighborhood. The posts are wide ranging from discussions of greater community topics like... which roads are passible during a flood, to lost and found pet reports, or recommendations for service providers. Surprisingly, some simply ask for help & usually, a kind soul will step in to provide what was needed. Overall, Nextdoor helps us be a community and that's a good thing.
Invaluable in knowing what is going on in the neighborhood; crime trends; handy persons; free things and things for sale.
I love Nextdoor as an information sharing site. You can connect with neighbors in your own and in nearby neighborhoods. If you've lost your pet, need a referral or have a question about almost anything, someone can answer you on Nextdoor.
It does require some self control, good people as leads, and the best motives to fully enjoy the experience. Like all online interaction, there are always people who love to complain, create drama and stir trouble, so if you want good neighbors, you have to be a good neighbor.
My career has led to a number of long-distance relocations, meaning we have to connect with new neighbors, services and communities. NextDoor.com has been a great help to us, in communities from California to Michigan.
While a few curmudgeonly types may participate, the vast majority of people involved on NextDoor.com have (in our experience) been warm, helpful, community-minded and friendly.
I highly recommend NextDoor.com!
I was a reluctant former admin when Nextdoor originated in the U. K. solely by being a former Streetlife.com member. I didn't ask to be admin on the Nextdoor replacement site, but decided to carry on as admin as I thought I was an honest broker. In my welcome letter to new me, beers I warned of the pitfalls of Nextdoor compared with street life, ie full name required, and locations easily established of individuals on street maps.
I found out recently I have been banished from Nextdoor without rhyme or reason, just the standard notification " account Disabled - Your account has been disabled for a violation of community guidelines". With no opportunity of redress, nor explanation for me to follow up. I can only think a malicious cowardly neighbour has taken a dislike to me.
I have now been reinstated.
Neighbors get to communicate with neighbors. It is a helpful tool because unfortunately we have become a society that does not reach out and shake hands and say hello to our neighbors because of our so called "busy-ness". Through Next Door we can alert our neighbors of the good and the bad happenings so that we all stay informed and are alerted.
I love this group, they keep me informed of things that go on in our neighborhood and I'm so thankful that I'm a member!
Installed a new furnace within a day's time in our home, minimizing our time without heat or hot water as we are an elderly couple in our late 70s!
Nextdoor is a great website for neighbors in your area, and members can post, report, and assist other neighbors from house repairs to construction to security in the place where they all reside together in the community.
Since belonging to this awesome group my family has benefitted immensely from this group which treats each other as a family.
Name what you need and someone will help you.
I could never get the local information from any other source if it weren't for Nextdoor. I have found an excellent TV repairman, a great computer guy and many others. The fact that recommendations come from actual users of these professionals is very reassuring. I also have learned so much info about wild animals and birds of prey in the area that I have changed some of my habits with my own dog. Nice to know if there are unsavory characters in the area so I can keep my head on a swivel. I could go on. There are so many benefits to Nextdoor that I could go on forever. Great site!
I love Nextdoor! I'm new to this state and this neighborhood, and Nextdoor has been invaluable in getting to know my neighbors and the issues with the neighborhood, good and bad. I was able to join a volunteer neighborhood cleanup, after learning the history of my neighborhood and its HOA. I cant think of another way I would have learned about all of this. I also attended a "getr to know your neighbors" party through Nextdoor, I've learned the names and places of nearby neighborhoods, I've learned best doctors and dentists, best home services, great stores and restaurants, and so much more! I learn something valuable each time I use Nextdoor, and I use it almost daily. Thanks for a great program!
Nextdoor seems to be a pretty solid avenue for people to connect, ask "what's going on?", complain, share ideas and resources, and generally know something about our neighbors.
I think Nextdoor is great for neighbors to keep in touch and keep informed of good and bad things going on in your neighborhood.
I find Nextdoor to be a very good method to stay in contact with neighbors. In our neighborhood we had an entrance sign that was unreadable, and not a good start to any entering the neighborhood. I posted a question regarding this, and it generated several responses. I saw that people were interested in doing something about it, and we held a meeting to discuss it. One thing led to another and the result was that we started a project to improve the sign, including raising funds for it. After several months we had a first class attractive sign that enhanced the neighborhood. Before and after pictures are posted below. This is just one example of communication. More and more have joined the online site. We use it to post notices of yard sales, warnings of criminal activity, etc. The one thing I dislike is that commercial entities post on it. Aside from this, it has proven to be very useful to us.
Never saw any responses... for items I put up...
Heineken cooler 50.00 usd
Hoover carper shampoo/cleaner... Brand new still in the box 75.00 usd
As a person who travels overseas extensively I now find that I am unable to log on whilst overseas to see what is happening in my neighborhood back home. The Nextdoor login automatically takes me to Nextdoor in the country I am visiting and then denies me access as this site obviously does not have a database that recognises my membership in the US.
Doesn't Nextdoor appreciate that the USA is part of a much wider community? Don't the programmers you employ appreciate that some members travel outside their neghborhood but would still like to maintain contact with what is going on back home?
A little thought beyond the fence would be appreciated!.
Keeps you abreast of what's happening in your neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. Appreciate the Police Precinct monthly reports and their involvement in our city.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
