In 2012 I was commuting from Tuscany Hills to Palm Desert to install awnings. It was that daily jaunt to Hades and back that motivated me to start my own business closer to home. I started putting flyers on doors. I circulated exclusively among the 1200 homes of our HOA for Maintenance Mitch Handyman, house painting, window cleaning and eventually Tuscany Wrought Iron Fence & Gate. While canvassing the neighborhood I ran into our Nextdoor.com monitor Dan Baldwin. He said do yourself a favor and distribute my flyer too. I did. His flyer encouraged members of our HOA to join Nextdoor. My business grew in exact proportion to our Nextdoor.com membership. It's great, if you do good work your customers post favorable comments on Nextdoor. There is no better advertisement than that. Nextdoor.com is such great consumer protection for it's members. People that provided poor quality services... that gets posted too. One negative review screaming across page one of Nextdoor.com and you're done son.
It's great to share information with neighbors and get updates on neighborhood issues. I live in the Sierra Foothills in California and we have issues with weather, fires, wild animals, and security that are routinely discussed. Also keeping up on home values and other local issues in the community.
This can be an interesting and informative app. Neighbors can often tell us about things happening in the neighborhood and city. From time to n time there are disturbing arguments but they can usually be skipped or avoided.
I think it is a great tool for a lot of people. I do feel a lot of people abuse the sure and only use it to complain, all for someone for free, or to be a bully to someone. This is the 2nd town I've been on nextdoor with. This town is horrible on Nextdoor compared to where I came from. I think it needs some clear guidelines set.
I have really enjoyed being a part of "Next Door"! It has helped me find my dog and a great Sprinkler company!
I like being in the know about what is going on in my area. It is great place to get recommendations about local businesses.
Great source to keep in touch with everything going on in the surrounding area (about 3 or 4 mile radius) with a minimum of stuff that wouldn't relate to me. Good for finding vendors or suggestions to problems of ordinary homeowners. For the most part folks are pretty friendly and helpful. Those who want to be "snarky" for some reason can be blocked. Also helpful because the county administration and police use it to keep citizens aware of special circumstances and issues.
Joining Nextdoor has enabled me to see upcoming events, get recommendations, meet my neighbors and join activities that interest me. Knowing my neighbors and surrounding neighborhoods makes me feel safe and we look out for each other. Even though I've never met most of them
It has the potential to be a useful resource for keeping posted on neighborhood events and happenings but unfortunately attracts too many dysfunctional busybodies who have way too much time on their hands.
Endless rants and complaining from bitter hateful people about the most trivial things with nasty and mean spirited insults back and forth. It discourages participation or involvement in even the most benign topics of discussion like "if you're not picking up your dogs poo after it goes in the grass you are a vile^%*#^*^& horrible person not worthy of the air you breath." It's scary to read some of the comments of people who "want to pass laws" to persecute those who don't agree with them. (God forbid you bring up anything remotely related to politics or religion!) So, it ends up being a magnet for opinionated self appointed "geniuses" who bully the dissenters right off the platform.
Normal, balanced people with a life will have little time for this soap box.
I have posted a bullying incident at my son's school which was not handled by school properly. We have publicized the incident and reported to the Police Department and the District as it was physical pushing around involved.
The post received a lot of attention, until one of the PTA presidents wrote a comment. After one day the whole post was removed.
This is a lack of responsibility and lack of research and investigation on behalf of Nextdoor, that you removed my post without investigation. There were couple post that called me "insane", "crazy". Which I responded if you read the entire post and you just write this comment to me, then perhaps you need to be institutionalized and not me.
However; the post was not removed when that one person attacked me, but the entire post was removed when I responded.
It is noteworthy to mention I received 100s of very supportive comments and messages and therefore; the PTA and school felt threatened that is why they reported my post to you. It was very disappointing.
The for sale and free items are amazing... and much safer than Craigslist... you know the people are legit and not some scammer from Nigeria or a rapist or robber trying to take advantage... the worst thing is the Nextdoor site leaves items listed for long after the seller has sold it or long after free items are gone from alleyways and curbs..
Nice to have a link to real time information about things happening in the neighborhood. And I like the local 'for sale and free' section and local real estate. I would give 5 stars but seems to me not as intuitive to navigate as it could be.
I like the Nextdoor app because it allows me to connect to my neighbors when we all have 3+ acres and never get to see each other. I also like the local community feel that the app brings. I think the local community has been missing since on-line communities started, and this blends the old and the new and brings local community to where communities live for most people these days... on our phones!
Nextdoor is a great way to stay informed of happenings in your area. You can plan community events such as Christmas Light Shows Independence Day Parades. Put the word out about external groups or your Church activity and invite the whole neighborhood. It's a great place for recommendations for handyman services or almost anything you can think of. Buy and sell to your neighbors. Look for a missing pet or tell everyone you have a stray. Most of all it builds a sense of community. I say that is the best part of Nextdoor.
You do get up to the minute info about things going on around you keeps you informed about happenings in the neighborhoods around you chas
I have been able to successfully use several of the recommendations that I have gotten from my neighbors. It makes me feel more secure about calling someone when a neighbor has recommended them. Also go information about what is happening nearby.
Nextdoor is a great community portal that keeps you and your neighbors abreast of current events, crimes, as well as a number of additional features that pertain to your specific area.
This is the best way to know what's happen around you, many times you will not find this information in any newspaper or even though in the local papers. Great to belong to this network.
Helpful info from where to eat to what is going on in the neighborhood. The neighborhoods even branch out to neighboring communities.
Nextdoor helps you stay in the loop about issues within your community. It's a helpful source of home improvement info & any unlawful problems you might be concerned about.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
