This platform starting to scare me, especially because we have quite a few QAnon members and a pro-Trump forever love Trump "group" called KAG2021 (Keep America Great 2021) who knows what they are plotting... The reside here in sunny Carlsbad, California if you would like to know... lol... There are several people that I have concerns with - comments becoming uncomfortable to contend with. Going to deactivate my account with nextdoor. It is starting to be too political and many people on there always try to slip right wing comments, QAnon theories, themes from Tucker Carlson, etc. not my piece of cake. Beware - best not to say anything, use it for entertainment purposes only.
The Lead persons in Oxnard Shores are part of the local 1450 member HOA which recently has taken illegal steps to remove property rights. The Lead persons, HOA board members and supporters have blocked all discussions, comments and debate on HOA issues thereby leaving the community without important information. They also banned opponents from the site and removed all their comments just like a dictatorial sect. Nextdoor was notified but never took action, only supported the lead persons censorship.
I am/was a ND member in our community, deactivated my account because of cyber bullying and harassment from neighbors. I decided to reactivate my account to keep an eye on the neighbor, but I can't reactivate. Several Volunteer leads try to provide support, but nothing works. Customer Service hasn't responded to my help request.
Before that I had this serious problem with a neighbor, and I reported her to ND. Later found out from my lead in the community that my report was made available to that specific neighbor. I consider that a violation of privacy.
So now I am out and "she" is still in, can keep harassing people and spread lies.
I still want to get back in, just to prove a point.
Tried to sign up with a different email address, but even that does not work. The error message after typing in my name, states my name does not sound like a real name. Really? My name is Anne, sounds real, doesn't it?
I'm met many of my neighbors and learned about a lot of community events on Nextdoor. Much more aware of petty crime in the Neighborhood, as these types of crimes don't often show up in crime stats. Because you can't rely on facial expressions or tone of voice when online, it is sometimes hard to evaluate where others are coming from. But once I met my neighbors in person, I realized that they just sound more strident online then in person. Site works really well for finding lost pets. If people follow the guidelines, the site is great.
I have two homes. I set up ND for one location with a Yahoo email and a Contra Costa community address. I set up the other location with a gmail email and a Marin community address. So far I can access my Contra Costa ND with my desktop (PC) and my iPhone. I can access my Marin on my iPad only. I have written to their customer service, I have tried every which way but loose to fix this problem, but nothing works. ND is virtually useless to me.
I was quit Next Door because the leafs told me we weren't allowed to critics the police. I am not sure what kind of country we live in when we are told that.
You would be crazy to use Nextdoor, Giving everyone your address and email is like handing out your phone number to total strangers. Then you must give a phone number to verify your address, etc. to sign up. The only people on the site are the neighbors that are communist, Nazi Rat Finks that want to call the Gestapo on people and will lie about anything. Very Dangerous site that only STALKERS use to find out more info about total strangers minding there own business. Very Dangerous Website...
Incredible. This site is a nest of false crime reports on innocent neighbors. Anyone can get on the site. (False names are common). Then with the benefit of hallucinations, fantasy, and over-the-top paranoia, they can report you (innocent) as a criminal to the whole community and the world through the internet. This site is ruining peoples lives.
Well, here's an idea: a website where anyone can report anyone else as a criminal. No censorship. (The so-called leads are worthless).
We have to use our real name to sign-up. Ok, no problem. We have to use our real address to sign up. Ok, no problem. I thought we only had to post our first name in public. Customer service has my full name so I only posted my first name for neighbors and was blocked from signing in. Wholly smokes is posting your full name and address as dangerous as possible.
I did not realize leads can do whatever they want eithier. When they block us we have no chance to defend ourselves so that is another reason I don't suggest signing-up. Not a private site at all in my opinion. I do not see how requiring to give your full name to the public is a good idea. I can see requiring to give your full name to customer service for their records, however, no way is posting your full name and address to strangers a good idea.
PS
They deleted my account thank goodness.

I am IT expert. I ended up putting up my own site. People can put up Facebook page or better yet put up their own blog. Do not post your full name. Use first name only. Don't post your exact address either on your site. Just post your neighborhood. That is good enough if you decide to put up your own site or blog.
"Customer service" seem to be a bunch of power tripping children playing with real world scenarios and failing miserably.
Some users create multiple accounts on NextDoor to support their own causes on the site. NextDoor does not have an effective way of stopping residents from creating multiple accounts. It relies on leads to verify accounts but leads themselves have created fake accounts. Without real identity verification, ND is just another forum.
I joined this site after receiving what appeared to be an invitation that made it seem like it was from my HOA. Since then I have received tons of spam so if you plan to join set up a separate e-mail address. You should also know that anyone can set up the neighborhood site. In our case a random resident who rarely participates in HOA business set ours up, with even talking with anyone from the Board of directors. Any info disseminated would be secondhand and possibly outdated. There are a few good features but only if there are enough participants and the page is moderated by an community official.
I actually stood up to a bully on nextdoor. The guy started pming me 6 pm's in a row and demanding I reply back. He reported one of my post as "harassment".
I wrote nextdoor that I wanted him blocked. I haven't received any pm's since then. Not sure what they did. He knows where I live.
From now on, I'll just mute the blow hards.
I was harassed by NEXTDOOR after I posted information about a reckless driver. All because I posted pictures of the person's face and license plate. Their excuse? " the person can not defend herself so not appropriate to take picture of her" REALLY? And she almost caused a terrible accident around our neighborhood. There's no freedom of expression within the respectful limits.
The next door sensor is biased and deletes messages he or she does not agree to. Poor site.
We have a Nextdoor community with a large percentage of participation among our homeowners in our neighborhood. I will say that if those of you who are so very unhappy with the way your site is being run, why not contact Nextdoor Corporate and give them your ideas, experiences, explaining what has happened. They have no way of knowing if your community site is being run properly if no one complains to the Nextdoor (https://nextdoor.com) your site will fail. There's no reason for that to happen. Report what has happened, let them know so they can fix it! It's a very valuable website and has helped my neighborhood tremendously!
**I do want to add that I have read some of the crazy things that have happened to people involved with Nextdoor on SiteJabber, and from what I have read, these problems existed before Nextdoor was implemented (and will likely continue, even though these reviewers are not using Nextdoor any longer.) The bad behavior of the people in these neighborhoods is not Nextdoor's fault, and it sounds like a lot of people with such egregious issues would have these problems regardless of Nextdoor being active in their neighborhoods. It's not Nextdoor...
Multiple neighbourhoods within the same city and no common community board/page. Looks very basic and so many noisy neighbour complaints. Would rather look for a better alternative. meneighbour.com looks better.
Nextdoor seemed like a good idea. It wasn't long before I realized that the neighborhood trolls come out on this site. Instead of having to confront small children by yelling at them to get off of their lawn, people seem to feel emboldened by the lack of face to face contact. What comes out of this is nasty self centered personal agendas and polarizing of inconsequential issues. This site and app brings out the worst side of people and does more to break the community apart rather than bring it together.
Our Neighborhood "Lead" on Nextdoor is also the "Chair" of the HOA Rules and Regulations Committee. He is the nosy type who walks around the neighborhood with a clipboard looking for HOA bylaw violations to report on.
While this is a neighborhood issue unrelated to Nextdoor, as the "Lead" of Nextdoor, this guy closes discussions that he doesn't agree with while also using the forum to proselytize his religious viewpoints.
Nextdoor allows this "Lead" to basically run the entire forum. If he is not interested in a thread, he scolds us and then closes the entire discussion.
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Check out https://wiggio.com or www.neighborhoodlink.com
Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
