This site is great for recommendations and finding lost pets. Post Harvey flooding? Great for resources! Not so great? Posting without a problem for months about trying to get the city to move to low glare LED street lights instead of the ones causing people to have to move out of their front bedrooms or pull over due to migraine headaches, getting lots of support, a suggestion to start a petition from a realtor, lots of signatures from Nextdoor neighbors, no complaints, and then after losing the fight in our area, seven months later doing one final post of a video of another community to show what good lighting looks like so it could be sent to other neighborhoods who could still benefit. In fact, many cities had made the same change. THIS is what got me kicked off of Nextdoor. A perfect stranger was dismayed and wrote me to ask if I knew my post had been deleted. The idea of this site is wonderful, but it is only as good as its leadership.

Next door leads ask for my driver license, the answer is NO.
Leads deletes messages, you speak the truth and leads don't like it... they protect the wrong individuals.

Sometimes we have to learn a valuable lesson
November 25, 2017
Updated review

I realize Nextdoor is a private entity but they need to listen to the people who write in and make complaints. I signed back up with Nextdoor and for a long time things were going so well until a neighbor posted an article about Nextdoor. Com. I simply stated what happened to me with regards to a gentleman in another community. It's the people that are the problem and especially when you have different personalities, different political views, age plays a part and people who just enjoy being bullies. I did finally leave as did a couple of others I know. There is no respect for the seniors. I got called an "Old White Hag Lady" by a man who lives a couple of blocks over from us whose African American. I was shocked. I can't tell you how many times I was called a racist - I have always believe that people who throw around that word are the real racists... I know I am not.

Our community is very diverse and I love that about where we live. I don't want to live in a community with people who look just like me. I grew up in a community like that in the 50's and 60's. I love diversity. It's good to learn from each other especially where food and music is involved. I am saddened by the way I was treated. I did not deserve it. I say today that I have left for good but you never know. I just want people to be very careful. Don't take on your attackers - go straight to Nextdoor.com with complaints. There was a gal at the headquarters who was very sweet to me. I appreciated all her help. Proceed cautiously because in the end- it's NOT Nextdoor to blame, it's the people who use it.

I did not want people to think I blamed Nextdoor because I don't. It's a shame that during these trying times we can't all get along.

I believe I have written a review here before just can't remember. Nextdoor for my community is full of people who are scared to death to say anything for fear of being banned - there are bullies on this site and if they dislike you - watch out. It's also very political. I agree with that. In my community you do not dare mention you are Conservative. The progressives and left run the show. No doubt about it. There is MUCH disrespect for the senior citizens like myself who are just truthful. I was banned tonight because I actually tried to help a neighbor who was being assaulted in the street by some big man. I called Law Enforcement or I should say my husband did. It was traumatic to watch this man get our neighbor in a headlock. We did a welfare check the next day to see if she was ok. She filed a report against this guy but I actually got banned over this... I am in shock. Totally in shock. I told Nextdoor please permanently ban me. LOL Yesterday I got ganged up on by two residents as they misunderstood my post and started calling me a racist - that I was in cahootz with the LEADS. Yea right... there is only one that likes me because we are in same age bracket. The others are young whipper snappers. Ha! It's too political - too divisive and I really do not think the people at Nextdoor.com know what they are doing actually. (San Francisco based). Stay away. I hear George Tenet- Ex CIA Director is a sponsor/backer of Nextdoor.

Don't bring this to your neighborhoods. Use spot.com for crime and create a Facebook page for missing animals etc.:-) Seriously... there are some dangerous people in some neighborhoods. Stay uninvolved. Get to know people on your block. Join your Neighborhood Watch program... Good luck.

Nextdoor uses "leads" to supposedly police the site. How they pick their leads is a secret except to those that have used the app and found how "leads" weld their little bit of censorship power. This site will never become anything except a nicer Craigslist. Far too many scams and you do not know who lives in your community or not. A perfect site for those that want to pick and choose where and when to burglar homes of absent owners. Pictures posted are so bad one cant tell if a girl, boy or animal is the perpetrator. The proper use of English is also missing on this site. I have seen better use of words and punctuation in a first graders essay. Most people are so far out there in "reporting" that there have been pictures posted of a "suspicious" person walking in one's neighborhood doing absolutely nothing but walking. A great site for those that like to espouse their expertise of nothing and do nothing but $#*!, moan and complain and still do nothing about simple issues. You cannot count on anything posted on the Nextdoor site to be legitimate or correct. Stay off of this site unless you want to become a victim of all the crimes these idiots claim to have knowledge of. I have no idea how the majority of people that use this site made it past puberty. The sooner this site loses its funding the better for all.

They don't want you to really know whats next door. They want only good things that make you feel safe like you live in a bubble and not next door or down the street from a drug dealer. Say something people don't like and they kick you out no explanation to kiss poor black people. The poor and black don't even use their stupid racist towards whites service. Mostly white people wanting free stuff or plumbers they can find on better reputable websites. Didnt even send me a card when i moved even though i asked for one. A complete joke for areas that have rich and poor. The rich dont want to know the truth they live among bad people yet they know it just dont remind them

I love Nextdoor because in this busy society it is the best way to get to know my neighbors. All of my neighbors. The ones that I appreciate for their neighborly advice and community support, and the ones I don't appreciate so much. Like the ones that are rude, don't take care of their property and attempt to drag other people down. That said, I know who they are because of Nextdoor! It's also a great place to learn about police, fire, and weather emergencies, traffic reports, other community news and events. Some of our neighbors even post good deals on grocery items at some of our local grocery stores.:-) I sold our old dryer on Nextdoor and didn't pay anything to do it. There are so many good reasons to use Nextdoor.

Next Door Sucks
November 22, 2017

This little bunch of Nazis likes to kick members off or put them in limited mode. I've been in limited mode for over 2 yrs. All I can do is read not post, not thank, not a damn thing! A start up worth millions by millennials! I would make a statement in a post & find out it was flagged or worse some little prick writing his thoughts about me, etc. w/o sending a PM. When I saw this dudes words I sent him a PM explaining the best way to tell a neighbor something is a PM. I could paste his many responses back & forth but will not have enough room. Not only him but several others who like to show their assses making public slanders to me. At first I thought the app was ok but when you have nasty $#*! neighbors that have never met me, keep yakking their jaws about what a little man I am, on the way up to whoop my $#*! you old man, etc. Only thing good is, I'm able to read about all the B&Es that are going on day & night. 2 weeks ago one of the known MOPES was cruising my street while I was leaving. I can't post to any hoods that he is out, asked 2 girls walking to put it on ND for me & they didn't do crap. We don't just have our little area, but have so many neighborhoods on, it is nuts. It has turned into a big crock of "FOR SALE items cluttering up the place. I could write more but I think you will get my drift. I have asked several times for my privileges back & all I get is a copy of the guide lines. I'm not going to get down on my knees & beg them. Even if I could post, I would not give ND but 2 stars. If crime was not rampant, I would get the hell off this app!

I signed up thinking i could use it as a tool to look at upcoming local events. Ummm... Wrong! I live in a town where a bunch of subdivisions are around and it ended up being worse than facebook. People posting complaints, opinions, and uneducated arumentative statements about thier neighbors. It was like a live version of Young and the Restless!

Received a notice that a family member had used me as an emergency backup number. In order for that to happen I had to 'join'. After asking for my physical location and other information they then immediately selected 65 of my 'neighbors' to send post cards to in my name. Everything about this site is misleading. I immediately unsubscribed.

I finally deleted my account as there are way too many who obviously have nothing better to do. Tried to make some money by walking/boarding dogs and the minute I posted regarding services, they slapped my hand. Funny how when others kids post about mowing grass, etc., they stay on the site for months! Donna B - you are so right!

Absolute horror!
November 16, 2017

Don't you dare to report and post an insulting message that a "neighbor" sent you cowardly "in private" on this crappy and useless website; they will deactivate your account and ask you to comply with some of the strangest guidelines. Many of my friends warned me not to join this site and I should have listened. It doesn't help that, according to Wikipedia, the site has been accused of racial profiling on numerous accounts. Stay away. By the way, their CEO in 2014 was involved in a hit-and-run... Talk about promoting neighborliness... Go figure.

I thought this might be a pretty cool thing to join, so I did. Within 1/2 hour, I received a text message that somebody was assigned by their boss to collect 100 emails, and that they would call me tomorrow. I blocked the number and thought this was pretty shady. I fear now I may get robbed. Be very wary.

Censorship
November 15, 2017

Ive posted or commented on everything from dog sitters to plumbers and even local crime and once I posted my opinion on an original post, that was political in nature on how congress might affect our state, I stated my thoughts on our states burdensome taxes and someone reported me and just like that, My comment was in violation of being on a soapbox forget the 20 comments prior to mine what kind of neighbors cant hear an opinion? Not any neighbors I care to converse with so good riddance to them, and Nextdoor

It could be so great, but it's so not. Posts by people wanting to sell their crap: oils, cookies, massages, etc. are not banned. Complaints to them about this were ignored.
And, as someone else indicated below, because they have local yokels running the show, I've often seen that people with opposing viewpoints to those LYs (a certain church, for example) are offensively bullied onsite -- over and over, without recourse.
People are better off starting a group on Facebook or Reddit.
This site is deceptive and poorly run.
The cat catcher post below breaks my heart. That should tell you everything you need to know about this garbage site.

There is a person in the neighborhood who has been ticketed for illegally trapping cats and disposing of them who knows where. This person trapped their neighbors pet cat, was informed that the cat was a domestic pet, and the cat is now missing along with all the free roaming cats in that neighborhood. The cat trapper admitted their actions to the police and a police case has been filed.

As neighbors, we are all obviously concerned; we remember the Cambrian Cat Killer http://www.newsweek.com/san-jose-cats-******* all too well. Yet, as the neighborhood rallied to try to find the missing cat who was a service animal to an autistic little girl, Nextdoor saw fit to not only ban the woman whose cat is missing but also delete every single thread related to helping canvass and find the cat.

Joining together to FIND the cat was how I was expecting to use Nextdoor. Watching people get banned for stating facts and matters of public record is NOT.

I cannot recommend this app.

Why do I need to import my friends' info to join? They do not live in my current neighborhood. They are in another state. I wouldn't want anyone giving my info out, and I respect their privacy as well.

And why are the reviews so low for the site?

On paper, nextdoor seems like a great idea, and even their posting guidelines look great. However, they rely on community moderation by "Community Leads", those users with high participation and lots of thanks from other users. Basically it means that the community hive-mind just reinforces itself and pushes anyone with a slightly differing opinion out. Reporting posts and comments that are blatantly against the Nextdoor terms of service often gets you nowhere. There seems to be no moderation at the top level.
