The Hiawatha neighborhood of Minneapolis (and nearby neighborhoods) has a lead that does not act on racist posts, and will censor liberal points of view (in a very liberal city... so that's probably most of the neighborhood). He's tried to get elected to various local offices (city council, for example) but never gets more than about 5% of the vote because... our neighborhood knows what a jerk he is. However, he apparently works out well for Nextdoor- entirely due the fact that he has about 1,000 invites to his name. Invites are their metric... actually being a positive benefit to the neighborhood is not part of this company's efforts.
Pretty much the other 700 reviews said it all. Run by idiots that block u in a heartbeat if your opinion isnt the same as theirs. In my case, the people are morons, so my opinions never were like theirs. If I took the chance to challenge them, no matter how politely they all attacked like a lack of rabid rats.
Dont even attempt this horrible site. The only thing I learned was where all the morons lived as they show the addresses... and that everyone in this area is a racist bigot. Wish I could give it negative stars...
Since ONE is the lowest star you can give this misleading/misguided/one-sided (LEFT!) site, that's what they'll get from me! I agree with all the other reviewers about how MANIPULATIVE and RUDE these leads are... how, if you say anything THEY don't like, BAM! You're shut down... Hardly what most of us would call "neighborly", right? Let's boot them outta OUR neighborhoods!
A very poor excuse for a "neighborhood" site. My community's HOA president also happens to be the "lead/moderator" of NextDoor. Any posts critical of the HOA board are being taken down and censored. This extends from a simple question about HOA minutes being posted to a post giving information regarding a Facebook Community page that was created due to said censorship. I've deactivated my account.
Nextdoor isn't a neighborly app. They have poor policies and don't let the neighbors decide what they want.
What is the sense of having a site to talk to ignorant neighbors about dog $#*! when your lead pulls your listing and is probably the lead offender,
I was posting book reviews every other day on next-door about my little free library and they kicked me off. They said it was over posting and people were complaining they didnt want to hear about books. I have been sending emails for a week trying to get an explanation about what they consider over posting and how many people were complaining and they wont answer me. I think its management of Nextdoor did doesnt like books. Who doesnt like books?
When they allow people to post peoples personal information in order for others to go to their homes, harrass them, etc. and someone gets killed or hurt maybe they will then realize how harmful what they are allowing is. In the world we live in today I think social media sites should be a bit more careful.
Don't waste your time on this site. You are better off finding or starting a local area FB page or website. ND is terrible. I was the victim of a neighborhood crime & I wrote a post to worn other people. They took it down and did not tell me why. I put another one up and now I can't log on. Bull$#*!. The whole point is to let neighbors know what is going on around them! Especially when there is a house full of Heroine addicts in the middle of it.
Whoever moderates this site is HORRIBLE and FULL OF THEMSELVES. To bad, can someone else please make a site not run by a bunch of NOZIS? Thanks
I tried to stay on Nexdoor but after about 4 months I had to let it go. Some of the leads in our neighborhood think they are Gods or something and try to control valid and legitimate conversations. Sometimes my posts would get deleted for no reason due to one leads constant trolling of my posts, none of which violated any stupid community standard - whatever that is. I'll stick to talking to my neighbors in person. Don't use this app. It is worthless.
I have (and continue to) provide periodic updates to Netxdoor.com staff about how many views this review has had and never get any replies from them.
You're either going to have a great experience or a terrible one, if you truly get involved in the site with your "community."
The staff there, do not appear to care what-so-ever about what the end-user experience is and seem invested in their broken model.
Good luck! It's your time to spend; How do you want to spend it?
This website is just. Bad.
The sign up and "lead" processes are really bad with no checks-and-balances system. A "lead" gets moderator-level access and being a "lead" is determined by who signs up for the site using "your" signup code. Obviously this can be abused and it is.
The posting "guidelines" for the site do not allow anyone to "air grievances" or something to that effect. It makes no difference how you post it. If you have an issue, you disagree with the "status quo", and post something to that effect (no matter what tone you take, respectful as can be or not) if someone "reports" your post and it's flagged by a "lead" Nextdoor staff will NOT ONLY remove the post but LIMIT YOUR ACCOUNT so that you cannot post anything new, any replies, or send private messages.
Stay away from this site at all costs!
This organization has tremendous potential but not the way it is being run now. Paula emails me telling me that I am not following the guidelines, but then can't tell me what guideline I am not following. Now I am on "read only".
I posted something about warning about others to be careful about an incident that occurred. People are against it. Support on not being safe on the street. My post got removed. I feel like a lot of people that are on that website live in a fantasy one way world and not the reality!
You can't post on what you want to post because of others disagreements or bothered can report you. It's pretty much you vs people at nextdoor.com. Pointless. Not recommending to anyone. Stick to other social media or websites!
Pathetic censoring by LEADS who can say whatever they want but we can't reply to them because they just remove us. They abuse and use the guidelines for their purpose.
I am requesting complete removal from their site and I hope many more do to!
Nextdoor allows neighorhood "lead" to abuse and insult members publicly and delete posts arbitrarily.
Nextdoor Help Desk will not respond to complaints.
Nextdoor in Virginia Village, Cook Park, Cory Ellis, UHills Denver is a joke. The leads are completely one-sided and block people/remove comments while allowing other people they agree with to say whatever, including cursing at other neighbors. Not a neighborhood site, more like a left-leaning political favoritism group.
You are required to use your full name - not first name and initial of last name. Not too bright in an era of identity theft yet when contacted Nextdoor doesn't see the problem. If someone (unfortunately) is stalked and harmed by the information available to Nextdoor users then I hope Nextdoor is sued out of existence! Better yet, make the people responsible for the website to be held liable for any and all damages
Not long after I joined Nextdoor I was inundated with junk emails and those nasty, threatening voice mails and telemarketing and I am on the do not call list and my number is not listed. And when i posted a simple community policy question for condo homeowners on how to dispose of hazardous to the board is was deleted and I believe that a lot of the posts may not be fully truthful. As soon as I canceled the service the voice messages and telemarketing calls stopped. I have to reset my PC to get rid of the download that is required and now my PC runs great. Plus they post your address on their website. I think it is more to deceive people to join then misuse their personal information to spy and censor what is posted or asked. I would question providing or allowing access to all your personal information.
I have enjoyed NEXTDOOR for a some months now. Today, I signed on to see whats up, and this is what happens. I see my home page for about 3 seconds, then it goes to all white.NO ND anything. I sent ND a message on facebook to see if they know how to deal with it, cause Iam still getting updates via my email on comments and other stuff still going on. I also cant sign out at this time
If you don't agree with the lead you can get booted off. What a joke. Is there an alternative neighborhood site?
Answer: The negative reviews are honest reactions to being duped into sharing too much personal information (that Nextdoor now owns and will NEVER delete and will continue to sell to advertisers until your dying day) to join a site that seems friendly on the surface, but which does NOTHING to protect users. I was bullied by a convicted murderer, who is a Lead in my neighborhood--and I was banned from the site for complaining. Leads are nothing more than early adopters of the site who have been assigned power over other users so that Nextdoor does not have to police it's own site. In short: No. The negative reviews are not wrong. Heed them! I wish I had known before it was too late!
Answer: Forget about nextdoor and leads. Get a life, a real one. Don't waste your time with toxic online communities that tend to get the worst out of people. My advise is run away while you still have some dignity left.
Answer: Kay is right. That is their policy. However, don't expect them to hold to it. We have leads unfairly removing only some people's comments and Nextdoor does nothing about it. Best bet, dump nextdoor.
Answer: Neighborhood. Rocks is in development. Another 6 months.
Answer: Truth is like oil and water. As long as the scam artist have enough venture capital (other people's money) they will continue to shake the bottle leaving it a murky view obscuring the truth. Run out of cash, they'll be exposed for the incompetent boobs they are and the top dogs will clear out their bank accounts and move on to the next scam. One look at their "leading edge tech" pulled right out of the 1980's is proof enough they will die in the tar pits just like the fellow dinosaurs. Want a state of the art app? Answer: Dallas, SiteJabber rates it at 16%. It would surely rate lower if there weren't so many fake positive reviews. Folks review Nextdoor either 1 or 5. The fives read like ads about Nextdoor's features and potential. The ones are written by real people and give accounts of how awful their experiences were.
Answer: Several other reviewers on this site have had the same thing happen to them. We have been fully banned from nextdoor (beyond just "suspension"), but they keep our profiles, and sometimes our names still appear in the neighbor registry. They refuse to remove us fully, I suppose, in an attempt to misrepresent our endorsement and participation there. It's clearly unethical, but their TOS states that they can do this, as any nd apologist will point out.
Answer: Here's a tidy answer from corporate... Hi Colleen, Thanks for getting back to me. Our Community Guidelines prohibit posting about Lead activity on the main newsfeed. If your Leads are inactivate and youre concerned about moderation in your neighborhood, you should reach out directly to Nextdoor Support. If you have any specific concerns I can help you with at this time, please let me know. Best, Amanda Nextdoor However, the minute you alert corporate to issues with leads in your community you'll find your account terminated. They are very protective of the information surrounding who really is controlling the activities on the boards. Most people in my community are under the misguided impression that corporate is in control. They don't even consider it is their neighbor who sits in judgement.
Answer: Nextdoor wants your full legal name, house number and address and your email address that they link all together. As an added bonus... They have a little map that you can click on. That way if, OMG, you offend someone the little map leads them straight to your house. Run, do not walk, away from this site. No good comes from Nextdoor.
Answer: Your name and address will be known to everyone who uses the NextDoor application and website. I don't suggest using it. I recently discovered that low income apartments in ghetto areas might be able to use the application to do crime. Car theft, asaaults, kidnapping and just about everything else under the sun.
