NetSpend's reputation is largely tarnished by pervasive customer dissatisfaction, particularly related to its customer service and account management. Many users report significant challenges in activating cards, accessing funds, and receiving timely support, often facing long wait times and unhelpful representatives. Concerns about account security and unauthorized closures further exacerbate frustrations. While a few customers have expressed loyalty and satisfaction in the past, the overwhelming sentiment reflects a lack of reliability and transparency. Overall, potential customers are advised to exercise caution and consider alternative options for prepaid services.

My stimulus check was deposited on March 12th. Within 8 hours my entire check was stolen with a virtual card. Only $5 was left out of my $1400 check. Any real bank would have flagged the card during the first 2 transactions. $500 and a $300 western union transfer. I called as soon as I noticed. It took me 3 days to get in contact with netspend. Once I did get in contact with Netspend I was given the runaround. I still have no gotten my money back. I spoke with someone today and was told it would take 15 business days to receive my money back. Within 15 days they would mail me a check. Even though the money was deposited onto my bank card. They decided to close my account and mail me a check. The check still has not been mailed out... they will mail it with 15 business days. It is ridiculous that I have been give the runaround and I am the victim. Netspend has the worst customer service.
This company is a scam! Allowing me to register 2 debit cards accidentally bought for 3 minors and whole registering the 3rd it tells me something is wrong and they cannot verify my identity that I need to send on a copy of my driver's license, pay stub, utility bill. I do not feel comfortable giving that kind of information when registering a gift card. So now I'm out 20 bucks because I will not give this company copies of my personal business to get my daughter's 20 bucks all I do know is to make sure you get the right kind of card, my husband didn't realize he was buying these kinds of gift cards/debit cards but he did and now my kids cannot even use them well my oldest child cannot! Never use these gift cards
We're sorry to hear that. We offer prepaid debit cards, not gift cards.
In order to be compliant with federal regulations, we are required to verify the identity of each account holder. This means that when you open a Card Account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and your government ID number. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying information.

Do not bank with them, my account was locked without my knowledge. And it is still locked I've called supervisors sent emails and no one has responded. This was supposed to be handled in 24 hours that was Wednesday 03/31 it's now Thursday 04/08 and I still can't get through to anyone that can help

I've been a netspend customer for several years, and more than once they canceled my card for no reason that they could provide evidence for, and they locked me out of my account saying that there was suspicious activity, without giving me any details. They wanted copies of my passport, my social security card and other sensitive information with my mailing address on it. I was always polite and patient with them, even though I knew that they were just reading from a script. Finally, they closed my account with over $1000 in it and I cannot get a straight answer about how to get my money back. Needless to say, despite the fact that they have been sued again and again, and despite the fact that they are being investigated by the FTC, they continue with sneaky tricks and woefully bad customer service. If you need a mobile banking or online banking service, please don't use Netspend.

I still have 6,000 in my account and im a mom of six. On so scared i wont get my money back. Im so sick to my stomach about all this.

I used netspend a couple years ago. Any money you deposit with them you have no way of knowing if it actually went into your account. Then once it's in your account they make you wait days or weeks until you can actually use it. Thank goodness I only deposited $60 into the netspend account. I never got to use the card anyways because of this. I would recommend you put your money in a bank account and not into Netspend!
We offer the option to check your balance at any time through the Online Account Center or using the automated line for no charge. Cardholders can also enroll in Anytime Alerts.
We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your Netspend services. If you have questions about your card, please email us at [email protected].

Got charged twice on multiple occasions, after proving this to their standards I still have not been reimbursed. Want you to contact customer service where the English language is not understood very well. Very hard to communicate with them. I will NEVER use them again and will tell anyone that will listen to avoid at all cost.
That doesn't sound right. We can see what happened with your account. Please email [email protected] for assistance.
Ive used this company for years as my main card. My unemployment and stimulus are both due to be deposited in a matter of days and guess what!? They closed my account for no reason! Im so upset. I filed with the BBB, my attorney is involved, ive filed a police report and contacted the attorney General. Stealing from people that the government are trying to help, you should be ashamed! Ive also contacted the news stations since im associated with them and they are sickened by all the negative reviews and are willing to do a story if this is not rectified asap. This has to stop.
They are crocked they don't answer their phones they keep your money they are crooks they steal your money

I informed Netspend that my account had been compromised. They canceled my debit card but didn't restrict my online account so someone was able to use my account and steal 2400. 00 out of my account after I informed them my account was compromised. They decided to close my account. I'm having a hard time getting the remainder of my money that was in my account. The customer operators are being really nasty. They won't give me any useful advise about whats going on with my account. I've been with them for at least 10 years. Never again they let me down. They get a -1 star.
We're sorry to hear that. Please email us at [email protected] so that we can look into this for you.

When my son was 17 years old (two months ago) he was sold a net spend debit card by a company called Kum & Go a local gas station/convenience store. After my son paid 80 dollars in cash for the card, he tried to use it but it did not work. After calling Net Spend, he was informed that he needed to input his social security number to activate the card. He was also informed that he could not use his social security number because he was not 18 years of age. When he tried to return the card to Kum & Go, a seller of the Net Spend product, we was told that he could not and that he would have to get it sorted out with Net Spend. When he called Net Spend back to get a refund, they informed him that he needed to find someone over the age of 18 to activate the card for him. Now that he is 18 years of age, Net Spend will not activate the card without a copy of his drivers license and a copy of his social security card. This is how I came to find out about the situate since my son does not have access to his social security card. This debit card should never have been sold to a minor! How can you get away with selling something to some that they cannot use and then not let them return it for a refund?
We're sorry to hear that. It is up to the merchant if they will provide refunds on prepaid debit card purchases. We are happy to look into this. Please have the cardholder email us at [email protected].

I been banking with netspend all my life but someone hacked into my account so i call them and did a despite on my money that was unlawful took out of my account next thing the following week they closed my account dont know why and when I call them to ask the only thing they saying cause I did an dispute for fraud and it's my money I'm the victim but netspend will have you looking like the crook about your own funds I do not recommend anyone to them and they never gave me my money back of 2500. 00 cash that someone looking out of my money so I was scam both ways it's not fair to the clients!
This company thrives on fees due to their own errors.
Charged me $5 to add a $200 check to my account. I then went to a restaurant, (with $200 in my account) and my card was declined. Tried twice to use the ATM to pay my bill and was declined. Hmm... what to do? I was out of town, no cash, card declined, ATM declined but owe for food I had already eaten. Luckily my waitress was kind enough to pay out of her own pocket, embarrassing.
So let's see, I paid $5 to load a check, $3 for two ATM transactions and can't use MY money.
I then check my balance which was not only empty, but in the negative. Laughable right?
Sent an email to the check loading company that Netspend uses and also an email to Netspend. Inconveniently, I'll have to wait 48 hours for them to reply, but miraculously I get an email stating my check couldn't be loaded. (After they charged me $5 to load it and it said check was accepted)
Still waiting for a reply from Netspend and can only imagine what nonsense they'll have to tell me.
It's obvious how they make their profit.
I'll give them a chance to make it right and earn their trust, but don't see that happening. And then I'll be on my way to cancel card and find a legitimate company.
I'll also add that this is just a fraction of my disappointment with Netspend, but have wasted enough of my time.
Wish I could give them zero stars. They are a scam. Our daughter received their card from her grandfather for her birthday. He thought it was a gift card, as it is deceivingly placed among the gift cards in the stores. To access the money, you have to call and give your Social Security number and open an account. Because we didn't do this for over 90 days, they tried to tell us the card had expired, and that there was no money. I argued that there was $50 loaded on there. Eventually they agreed to forward my money to an account. This was in Dec. The card was came while I was on vacation, so when I got to activating it in early Feb, I found they had been deducting a $5.95 fee from the month of Aug - 4 months prior to when I called to activate it! My balance was $14.95. I was able to recover some of the fees, but after the fee to send a check of the remaining balance, I walked away with $32. They stole the difference of $18 from a two year old child. Truly, they are a deplorable company.
We're sorry to hear this.
We offer prepaid debit cards, not gift cards. We require users to be at least 18 in order to activate our cards and there are fees associated with using our cards.

Every time I used the netspend card it charged me an extra dollar. I will never go back to a netspend.

I purchased a $100 card plus fees at Walmart for my daughter to take to collage. I chose it because it was reloadable and I could send her money as needed. The card does not work. After 7 months the still claim my account needs further identification, for a prepaid card! That I cant get a refund on! I'm retired. I know $100 is not a lot of money to most but for me on Social Security its a tremendous amount. I recently discovered that The Federal Trade Commission is mailing more than 430,000 checks totaling more than $10 million to people who could not access money deposited to their NetSpend reloadable prepaid debit cards. They are thieves. Plain and simple. DO NOT BUY Every time I call I get a out of the country person who seems to not understand the problem!
So, I never complain about card companies unless they deserve it. I bought a Netspend Debit Card with the desire of putting some money into it and have it as a secondary option for rent, bills etc. After I loaded it with $20.00, which I did to test how it works, I decided to make a $10 purchase. To my dismay, when I checked my account, it now read as $8.50 available. I found that extremely hard to believe, so to double check and make sure at what I was seeing, I bought something for. 99¢, and just as I feared, they also charged me $1.50 for that simple purchase. This is the worst card I have ever owned, a pure scam designed to rob you of your hard earned money. Heed my warning, DO NOT BUY!
If I could remove the card from the market source horrible and closed my account for no reason and stated that I had fraudulently activity I had this account 10 years
