BEWARE OF SCAMMERS
December 10, 2024

Since no one was told in advance that this would occur, a corporation that forbids payouts is flagrantly dishonest. They refused to let me access my account or take out any money, even though I earned some money and deposited everything I had ever saved. I had to hire S I M O N C H*C O M for assistance, and they were quite helpful; a few days after I hired them, I got my money back.

Unsatisfied
October 13, 2024

"Account banned". After longer time i've logged again to my Minds.com profile and what i see? "ACCOUNT BANNED". They even didn't informed me by e-mail about account banning/deleting, with reason or something. Nothing! So you can build your profile or pages for even few years and then they just delete your content / your work, just becouse they want so. It's same sh*t like facebook! No respect for people's work or time, here!

Can't even get logged in
November 12, 2022

I set up the account, logged in with the same username and password that I created two seconds earlier, and kept getting an error message "Sorry there was an error, please try again." I tried to log in 5 times on 2 different browsers and I'm 0/5. I haven't even been able to log in yet. Way to make a first impression.

Junk Website with No Support
February 3, 2022

Absolutely no support but they will take your money for "pro" features real quick.
They don't respond to support tickets.
They go on competing sites like GETTR and talk bad about the platform to try and leech users.
The site is buggy like if you mistype your email address during registration there's no way to change it and your username is lost forever even if you delete your account.
Painful, terrible user experience.

Couldn't even get it started :(
September 5, 2021

I used an Android phone and I read all the reviews and the pros and cons and decided to download the app through the Google download function. I did everything as asked and when I wanted to search for channels, nothing happened. I clicked on the corresponding search area then I typed "space and technology." Nothing at all downloaded. Unfortunately, nothing came up. I then tried to look for channels and nothing came up again. Very puzzling and disappointing. All I could see were messages directly from the administration of Minds about how to use the app, but nothing else. Every time I tried to search for something/anything at all it would give me the same strange message about "App cannot search for content" or something (A quite disconcerting message for all the buzz Minds has created). So, after opening an account, I was there less than 10 minutes. I really wanted to give it a try as I had read that it could work for someone like me (a totally unaffiliated centrist) but there are perhaps too many glitches/bugs at least on the OR for the Android customer. Too bad.

Minds pays you to use their Social Media site. Or rather advertisers pay and you get a decent cut of the profits. Even better, they pay you in cryptocurrency.

The two screenshots below are my token balance and my Minds+ balance. The first is rewards for people liking, commenting on and retweeting your posts, the latter is a share of site revenue.

If you wish you'd got into cryptocurrencies years ago then this site is for you. Frankly the education I've received in terms of DeFi, staking and the crypto community is worth far more than the rather impressive figures I've managed to earn.

In many ways Minds embodies the philosophy of the crypto community. Ownership and governance should be shared ( so no Bill Gates or Zuckerberg types), centralisation of power is wrong and code is law.

Hence there is no censorship and if someone transgresses the law then it is a jury panel of 12 users who decide what to do about it. Not moderators.

On a user experience level it feels a bit like twitter only without the character limit. However where twitter is a cess pit the rewards structure seems to prevent Minds from becomming the same. If someone want's to organise a pile on on Minds then they are giving points to that user, hence things tend to be a lot more civilised. Hence if you disagree with something, you are incentivised to ignore it.

It also has blogs and groups, some of the art and creator / NFT ones are particularly good. Artists and the like create things, turn them into NFTs and get points whn people comment or like them. It also allows them to showcase their wares on NFT markets, though I believe Minds are working on such too.

It can feel a bit empty at first, though once you've followed some hashtags, cashtags or people your network seems to expand quickly. I'd suggest using your first tokens to 'boost' your content. One token = 1000 views so if you pick up a few subscribers then it's well worth it.

It is still under active development and the rewards system has only been in place for a few months now. I have found the odd bug, though as it is open source reporting these helps to fix them. Whilst it isn't quite the finished article it is 98% there and the support staff seem to take any suggestions for how it can be improved. The roadmap for the future is impressive too, they recently raised $10 million and will be using this to make it even more decentralised... Which is the future I think.

Without any censorship, shadowbanning or deboosting you can make an impression fairly quickly on Minds. I was verified after a couple of weeks, have well over 100 followers and really enjoy it there.

Course the most impressive part is their integration into the Ethereum blockchain. You can take the tokens you have earned and convert them into Eth. The exchange rate varies but it's currently about 2500 tokens per Eth, I'd say it is reasonably easy to earn 2 or 3 tokens a day.

Course this does attract people who view it as a cash machine rather than a social media site. As a free speech site you'll also find almost everyone who has been banned from Twitter, Facebook and the rest. The likes of Stefan Molyneux, Alex Jones and David Icke. If you don't follow them, you won't see it. There is also some content which is NSFW or reprehensible, though it must be marked such. Personally I don't really like the anime though there is a cotterie of people who insist that posting cartoons of worryingly young looking toons is free speech. The block button is your friend, so you'll only see it once from each user.

Certainly the cryptocurrency, artists, conspiracy theorists and onlyfans types seem to be over-represented but there's plenty or normality and cute cat videos too. It is what you make of it.

I took out plus membership ($5 a month) after a couple of weeks on the site, despite being stingy, which gets me a 25% share of ad revenue pro rata. You can also get Pro membership for $40, and 50% share of ad revenue. Thus far the ad revenue doesn't quite cover the $5 a month outlay, though it does considerably reduce it and you can buy plus membership with tokens, making it entirely free. I think you'd need quite a loyal following already to make real use of Pro membership.

I love it, as you might be able to tell. It's a complete breath of fresh air and reminds me a bit of the internet back in the late 90s. The Wild West maybe, but thus far a very profitable and fun experience.

I'm guessing that the negative reviews have been written by employees from rival sites.

I made an account. I DID NOTHING. I had zero activity on the platform. I subscribed to few channels, but I posted nothing and commented on nothing.
Suddenly I was banned, and no appeal possible. I was not even notified about the ban. Only the homepage flashed the info for a fraction of a second before reseting to the login page "banned for spamming". I had to capture the page to read the message.
I was not able to do anything about it, and there is nobody to contact.
The email address is a black hole. Never came back anything from it.
Complain about restrictions is possible AFTER LOGIN. But that is not possible anymore, because the account is banned.
I can not even delete it. I totally lost control of it, including the username, and MINDS don't give a crap.
Literally the worst censorship I have ever encountered.

What social media should be...
March 17, 2021

Minds is different from other outlets. It doesn't discriminate against different political views, so it's not an echo chamber. Other social media outlets feel like a coliseum in which users duke it out for attention and a dopamine reward. Minds is more like friends sitting around a campfire passing the Dopamine blunt back and forth.

Some restrictions in place, especially if you like to post some nuddies, but in my 4 years on the platform I've been pretty pleased. The Admins have been fairly responsive, groups feature is great, and the friends you'll make... just try not to be a toxic keyboard warrior and you'll be fine.

Amazing for small artists/creators
March 16, 2021

I'm serious. If you feel like your art has been given up on or that you will never get anywhere with it (maybe friends say you're really great at art just to post it online ans get no reaponse) please come to MINDS. The max following I ever had was maybe 10-11 followers. I tried Instagram, tumblr, Facebook, Facebook, even Twitter. And nothing worked. I am fast approaching to 400 subs on MINDS and it has fully given me and my friends faith in our art again. Please give it a shot.

I've tried to get into Minds on a few different occasions over the past four or five years. I understand the need for social media platforms that aren't twitter and facebook, and I really hoped that this site would be a viable alternative to those two places. It's not, really. Like just about every other "free speech" oriented social media site, it's just become a haven for dumb conservatives. However, it's not as bad as Parler, voat, Gab, and $#*!ute. I do think that it could be an enjoyable place if there was a diversity of opinions, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Never say never, I guess, but until then, I hope you like unfounded nonsense and political reaction. Also, the jokes aren't funny.

Minds is a great social media site/app. You get rewarded tokens just for using it and interacting with others on the platform. You can edit your posts if you want. You can alao boost your post by using the tokens you've earned with the click of a button. Overall friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out!
