I want it fixed for a different reason. I have had far too many purchases, where sellers with an inaccurate "5-star rating" were terrible! And ultimately, I didn't even get to rate them after the sale to help correct it.
It is terrible than so many sellers on Mercari get away with being terrible sellers, selling fake or fraudulent items, and straight up lying when they describe their items for sale!
They can do this without worry, because Mercari only allows the 3-days to give feedback, and doesn't allow any feedback scores for cancellations or returns.
The 3-day feedback requirement is ridiculous! Most times it takes longer than that just to ensure an item (Bose, Apple, Beats, etc.) is authentic, or that the "New" item's warranty has not already expired. Or, the buyer may be out of town, and cannot rate in time.
And the biggest issue with feedback/review ratings- Mercari does not allow them for returned or cancelled items!
First off, "cancelled" and "returned" are not the same, but Mercari processes them all as "cancelled." Even if the item was sold, then returned 2 weeks later.
Most selling sites describe the two words:
- ***Returned items*** have shipped, been received, and because the item did not arrive as expected (i. E. damaged, fake, dirty, used, etc.), they are returned with Mercari's (or other site's) approval after verifying it is not as described.
- ***Cancelled Items*** were never shipped, because of many reasons. But, many of those reasons are due to the seller being terrible and not shipping the item. Reviews should possibly be allowed for cancelled orders (if done because of seller's negligence, dishonesty, laziness, etc.).
Both cancelled and returned orders can and usually are because of a poor seller. So, that is when a feedback rating is the most important! If everything was as described, shipped in moderate amount of time, and a friendly/neutral seller- a feedback rating is far less important than if the order was cancelled or returned!
Mercari must fix their feedback rating system, or the amount of poor sellers will continue to increase!
They don't take down the orders that have already been purchased by someone. They don't have a great reputation at all. It has tons of stuff people bought still for sale. They need to take those down when people buy them like Ebay does.
I have been a seller on Mercari for a little over a year and in Early May 2021 Mercari took my earnings from selling a 1.1 lb BOOK--claming "additional shipping fees"without reason and without showing proof of their claims. The buyer had already paid $4.80 shipping. They showed no invoice from usps and blocked me from communicating with them. Books are media mail and have a much cheaper shipping rate. Beware of selling on Mercari-- they will steal from you then block you if you raise questions and want proof of their accounting.
They do not allow time to recieve and check the quality of the purchase before demanding you rate the seller. If you rate the seller on their communications with you and NOT the actually Item, they consider that YOUR saying the Product was great and they CLOSE DOWN any possible refunds or replacements, even if the product was truly defective on arrival. Customer service never directly answers this question, they just say sympathetic things but offer NO resolution. TOTALLY DO NOT USE THEM.
1st AND last time using this site. Unfortunately, I would not feel comfortable recommending it to anyone.
If I can give this company less than one star, I would. They basically stole money from customers. I don't even know how they can exist in this day and age.
Recently made 2 purchases from them. The first one was fine because the merchant was great. Immediately sent out the merchandise and it arrived and it's great.
The 2nd merchant took the money and did not send. USPS waited with tracking and Mercari said merchant has 3 business days. So I waited 3 business days and then contacted the merchant. Merchant lied to me and said it has been sent out already. I asked merchant to go and check w/ USPS. Mercari told me if after a week, if merchant doesn't send, then I can cancel.
One week, nothing, so I cancelled.
Guess what happen, on that same day, the merchant sent. So I talked to Mercari again and said I don't want to wait another week for the merchandise especially since I have purchased another already.
Mercari apologizes and said they are sorry but only with agreement with merchant can they refund? What? I thought it said on the agreement, after one week, if the merchant won't send, I can cancel.
I contacted my bank instead. I will let my bank deal with them after the item arrive.
I bought 2 products on mecari the very first time using it. A seller by the name of Reynaldo Gonzales is scamming people on this app, gave me the exact same excuse on why it was taking so long for him to send me a device that it was taking someone else with the same product. Horrible app. Then they cancelled the sale. I guess they could get what they wanted out of the sell or something. So I went elsewhere for the same exact products in better condition.
My sister has an account, she asked me if I could purchase something for her with my credit card as a gift for her and I did.
I had never heard of Mercari and she had explained the app to me and showed me how it works.
After looking through it I decided to open amup my own account as well in case I saw something I wanter to purchased from myself later on.
After having the app for a few days I was interested in a few items I wanted to purchase. As I was entering my Credit card information it gave me an error message stating that my card was associated with another account. I had asked my sister if she had deleted my information and she had.
After reaching out to help support they told me I can only use my card with one account and thats it!
Basically once I use my card at anytime it will forever be associated with that account.

I bought an Arlo camera from customer, but I didnt receive anything. I even went to my nearest usps and checked with them but they said the tracking # was used before. I contacted my bank and disputed the transaction due to not received the item I paid for. After I disputed, mercari gave me a refund as credit. I saw the credit so I called my bank again and cancelled the disputed transaction. However, mercari limited my account right after that and asked for verification information. The credit was expired during the time I was waiting for Mercari verified my information. After all, my account was back to normal but the credit was expired and I could not use it. I contacted Mercari to ask for issue the credit again but they said they could not re- issue the credit! So Mercari cheated and stole $103 from me! I was super mad and definitely would call the bank for dispute the transaction as well as never use them again!
Mercari took fee from selling and dont want to solve problem when things happened!
Very deceptive and dishonest company. They'll discard their own rules to line their pockets! STAY AWAY!
I ordered and paid for a pair of mbt shoes, a week later the lady had sold them to some one else. I ordered another pair of same kind of shoes, on the 3 day they were suppose to be shipped the lady canceled the order. Both times the orders were paid for. It takes up to 10 days to get your money back on each order. No shoes no money! I am very disgusted i needed my shoes
I purchased a beebo bottle holder and when it arrived it reeked of marijuana and cigarettes smells. It was indicated that the item was new. I Requested to return it to the seller because of course I'm not going to use this near my baby. I was declined a return because apparently they can't confirm that the item actually smells so therefore they don't except smells/odor as an Acceptable reason to return an item. I have never heard of such a ridiculous policy because how was I supposed to know it was going to smell like drugs upon receiving it. Now I am out of my $17 and had to throw it away. This company does not care about customer satisfaction. They have more protection towards the seller than they do the buyer. FYI the company is Japanese. Look them up on BBB.
Worst place ever, bought a shirt, when I received it it was dirty and disgusting. Tried to return it they gave me a hard time. I eventually gave up. Stick with Ebay, they would never let something like this happen.
It was a good deal, not an unbelievable one. However the scammer sent something to an address in the same city so he got paid. Mercari support was worthless. I notified Mercari support the day it was delivered it was sent to the wrong address. They kept closing my support case with no resolution. I am now waiting on PayPal to investigate and hopefully get my $110 back.
Similar to many people on here, a buyer purchased an item worth $108 and immediately requested a refund claiming I sent an item worth $. 05. I take videos of me packaging/sending my items and that wasn't enough proof that the buyer swapped the item. In addition, I have 70 reviews, all 5 stars and it was the other users first purchase.
Customer service is extremely unhelpful and just copy and paste the same response over and over. Please direct me to any class action lawsuits.
Site mostly has the kind of junk you find at yard sales.
They protect their sellers and make it impossible to contact them. But do very little to protect buyers. Once they have your money they're done.
There are many other reputable sites. Use one of them, this one is not.
Mercari is a scam for sellers! Do not sell on Mercari, if you do you will get screwed. I "sold" an autographed Football and the buyer didn't review the photos and caption of the item clearly and when he received the item he requested a return because he said the autographs were "not original". Which they are and the COA that I listed explained the signatures. Anyway, Mercari sided with him and didn't even ask for my side of the transaction! How do you undo a sale without speaking to both parties?
It cost me more than $300 loss.
Don't sell on Mercari is all I can say!
From a seller on Mercari I bought an xfinity modem for my comcast account. When I connected it to my account, Comcast told me that they were going to charge me a monthly fee as a rental since they never sell their modems.
While Mercari did offer to refund me if I sent the stolen modem back, that would no longer be possible since I would then be on the hook with comcast forever.

She even apologized and said the lightening must be the reason... but she had no idea until I mentioned it really?
Anyways she offered to start a return right away and I being the ethical person believed her
But of course she was just counting down the hours because mercari automatically goes in the next day and gives the seller 5 stars and closes the case.
And pays the seller knowing full well I had already started a dispute
So they are behind the seller only and say once they have given the seller a rating (and everyone on mercari gets 5 stars) nothing can be changed
There is nobody to talk to and they eventually respond with a very robotic answer without referencing the matter at hand... the seller admitted fault!
They are very anti customer
They only support the seller
She lied she cheated she admitted fault and they gave her 5 stars and paid her
So buyer beware
If you are a gambler and like throwing out your money be aware there is absolutely no customer support
They are interested in getting paid. Period.
Scam is too kind a word and if I was able to give them less than 1 star I most certainly would

If you sell on Mercari please read this. I'm sick of paying outrageous shipping fees. Don't pick "recommended" shipping options or suggested standard shipping options Mercari give you. They are OFTEN Incorrect! And it's costing YOU in unnecessary fees. KNOW your items packaged shipping weight to save YOU money. Second, don't enter the dimension of the box IT'S OPTIONAL. USPS is the only one who requires it if your box is bigger than 12x12x12. Fed Ex and UPS not so much unless your package is huge or bulky. (FedEx 119" L x 80" W x 70" H) (UPS 108" L x 57" around). It limits your shipping options and rips the buyer off. There's only one that benefits from this and IT'S NOT YOU! Third, if the buyer requests a specific carrier work with them. It's to your advantage.

Whos paying taxes on it? FTC will get your money! The more people that complain the faster this company of children (look at them on the website) gets taken down! The faster we all get paid!
